new-cluster parameters, boolean & int32

I need help passing the correct settings for my order...

For this example, the value of the HAEnabled in the xml file is 'true' a text string.

New-Cluster - location $_. Datacenter-name $_. Cluster - HAEnabled ($_.) HAEnabled)

I tried to do: $cHAE = http://System.Convert: ToBoolean ($_.) HAEnabled), then using the $cHAE in the = command that did not

I also tried castant directly in the command like this: HAEnabled - $_. HAEnabled = this did not work

If I do this:-$true = HAEnabled it works, but of course, I read a file with several definitions of cluster in it.

I hope one of you have run addicts, cela and has a solution that works for how I get stuff in general.

Thanks in advance

The content of the file looks like this (Dataclust.xml)

Data Center: MyDatacenter

Cluster: mycluster

HAEnabled: true

HAFail: 1

DRSAuto: FullyAutomated

DRSEnable: true

DrsMode: FullyAutomated

HAAdm: true

VMSwap: WithVM

HARestart: average

Halkin: DoNothing

Part of the script below:

$Global: y = Import-Clixml c:\scripts\DataClust.xml

$clust | {ForEach-Object

New-Cluster - location $_. Datacenter-name $_. Cluster - DrsMode $_. DRSMode - DrsAutomationLevel $_. DrsAuto - HAEnabled ($_.) HAEnabled) - HAAdmissionControlEnabled ($_.) HAAdm)

-HAFailoverLevel $_. HAFail - HARestartPriority $_. HARestart - DrsAutomationLevel $_. DrsAuto - HAIsolationResponse $_. Halkin - VMSwapfilePolicy $_. VMSwap - DrsEnabled $_. DRSEnable - DrsMode $_. DRSMode

}

Sorry, my fault for typing. Should have

New-Cluster -Location $_.Datacenter -Name $_.Cluster -HAEnabled:($_.HAEnabled -eq "true")

  • Cluster of Boolean controls does not expect update

    Hello

    I'm confused about the following question: in the joint Test Cluster of Boolean controls Functionality.vi, I have a Boolean controls group, some disabled and grayed out, other permits. If I click on one of two Boolean controls permits, and then on the other hand, I want the Boolean selected first control to False. Update Cluster indicator shows the desired behavior. What confuses me, is that the new value does not update accordingly. When I clicked at least once on two Boolean values, the new value remains [TRUE, TRUE] at all times, and the structure of the event runs.

    I have a work around, as shown in the Test Cluster of Boolean controls feature Workaround.vi, but it looks like 'Nice' no, because it's more complicated than necessary. Anyone know why the new value refreshes as expected? Please notify. Thank you.

    Best regards

    Peter

    Here is a simple solution.

    Of course, you can use a container of radiobutton instead of a cluster for simpler code. Try it!

  • The cmdlet New-Cluster of PowerCLI how to set VM followed?

    Hello.

    I am creation of Clusters using script and need to allow monitoring of the VM with a sensitivity of surveillance of the environment. The cmdlet does not offer this syntax.

    How can someone has any suggestions, this be achieved?

    Thank you very much

    Darren.

    (@dawoo)

    Hello

    You need to update cluster VmToolsMonitoringSettings. This can be done by using the cmdlet Get-View or the ExtensionData of the newly created Cluster object property.

    Here is the function that modifies HA followed VM Cluster parameters by means of:

    function Set-ClusterDasVmMonitoring ($cluster){
        $spec = New-Object VMware.Vim.ClusterConfigSpecEx
        $spec.dasConfig = New-Object VMware.Vim.ClusterDasConfigInfo
        $spec.dasConfig.vmMonitoring = "enabled"
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings = New-Object VMware.Vim.ClusterDasVmSettings
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings = New-Object VMware.Vim.ClusterVmToolsMonitoringSettings
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings.enabled = $true
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings.failureInterval = 60
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings.minUpTime = 240
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings.maxFailures = 3
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings.maxFailureWindow = 86400

        $cluster.ExtensionData.ReconfigureComputeResource($spec, $true)
    }

    Now you can run the script against the cluster that you created:

    $newcluster = New-Cluster .....

    Set-ClusterDasVmMonitoring $newCluster

  • RAC 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2 to the new Cluster upgrade with any number of nodes

    I'd like suggestions on upgrading a RAC Oracle 11.2.0.1 in Linux x86_64 RHEL 5.3 with 6 cases of a new cluster with 4 linux x86_64, RHEL 5.5 and upgrading to 11.2.0.2 nodes group of hotfixes.
    New SAN storage will be used. Both systems use ASM.

    Current system... New system
    11.2.0.1... 11.2.0.2
    6 instances... 4 instances
    Linux RHEL 5.3 x86_64... Linux RHEL 5.5 x86_64

    Method:
    (1) run controls and upgrades pre scripts
    (2) save the current database with RMAN and put at the disposal of the backup files to the new host
    (3) install grid Infrastcure on the new cluster 11.2.0.2
    (4) set up ASM on the new Cluster
    (5) install the Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2 on the new cluster database and create the database with the same name of the original database.
    (6) startup nomount using a parameter file and the source of DBID edited without the cars parameters (cluster_database = false, etc...)
    7-restore Rman backup controlfile to step 1
    (8) restore / restore incomplete database
    (9) OPEN RESETLOGS UPGRADE
    10) proceed to updates manual steps (script catupgrd.sql, etc.)
    (11) remove the cancellations additional tablespaces e redo log son
    (12) CONVERTED to THE CARS USING DBCA or RCONFIG

    This method is correct? Do you offer other methods or corrections?

    I also want to know if there is another thing to delete, besides redo threads and undo tablespaces, due to the smaller number of cases.

    I also considered using RMAN DUPLICATE to the same version (11.2.0.1) and then MOVE to 11.2.0.2, but DOUBLE would change the DBID.

    Thank you

    Hello

    your efforts seem valid, but its awfully difficult.

    Why not simply create a watch on 11.2.0.1 and then update.
    If you are using "duplicate for standby" should not change the dbid.

    Then, you can just 'turn on' the night before and continue the upgrade.

  • The new Cluster of 5.5 ESXi backup solution.

    All,

    We have built a new Cluster on ESXi 5.5 with 2 servers DL380 G8 (hosts) and a HP Storevirtual 4330 connected via iSCSI to SAN storage. ISCSI all have 4 cards attached to an iSCSI network 1 GB Switch.

    The HP Storevirtual 4330 has 7 TB of space but will be 1-1, 5 to virtual machines and the data on it. processors Xeon 2 x 16 and 256 GB of RAM in each host.

    There are 10 VMs (2008 R2) server on the cluster.

    I also have a G8 DL360 with 5 TB of space on it and an autoloader CF HP 1/8 (I need to make the weekly and monthly strips for compliance requirements).

    I have 4 additional network adapters in the present to connect to the iscsi san network if it is an advantage.

    All my previous backups were backups on tape, but will have to be different.

    I was wondering what is the best solution for me compared to

    What types of backups are best (instant storevirtual, POS or software (Backup Exec and VEEAM are my options)

    Where to store data backups (SAN or a space on the backup win2008 server)

    What kind of backup gives less impact on the performance of the SAN, hosts or VMS running.

    Deduplication is assistance in the management of space, if so what should it be set up.

    If you use StoreVirtual as the underlying storage, no doubt, then take a look at Veeam that deeply integrates the device said, allowing you to use SAN snapshots during the backup process. This, in turn, considerably improves iterator and reduces the impact of the activities of backup from the production environment.

    Apart from him, you can install VB & R on the above mentioned physical server and connect the device to tape it. This deployment will allow you to archive the backup data in the midrange of tape on any basis you want, using special adhesive tape work.

    See you soon.

  • Need help: vSphere 4.1 old cluster to a migration 5.1 new cluster

    Need help!

    Well, we need to replace the old vmware 4.1 (3 former hosts in cluster) with the most recent output 5.1 (3 new hosts in cluster).

    We have 3 DAS old_hosts connected to the SAN HP P2000 G3 FC (we have only a single SAN who has 2 active FC ctrl with FC port 2 each - if only one FC port is free).

    As the new material is very different (1 Xeon E5335 2 GHz for every former host) and 2 Xeon E5 - 2630 2.30 GHz for each new host I'm not so sure be allowed to add new_host to the old cluster, not you?

    If this is the case, that is the best strategy to run a migration as possible interruption less?

    Anyone can suggest me what logical steps, we need to achieve our goal?

    (b) create new cluster with EVC mode enable (based on the old family)

    so, I don't do any CVS operation on the old cluster?    Y/N

    Nothing changes in the old cluster and other Word is YES! operation of EVC.

    (d) to migrate all your virtual machines in esx old new host esx (with sufficient resources)

    When I see in my inventory vcenter the old and the new cluster in order to migrate a virtual machine between them that I have to drag and drop the virtual machine on the label of the new cluster name? It is enough, or there is another way to do this?

    Yes, you can drag and drop again cluster or you may use the Migration Wizard to migrate the virtual machines. Both way can be works.

    When I have all the virtual machines in the new cluster, the situation is:

    -cluster hosts are running in VCA mode

    -VMs are run in EVC mode

    so if I now turn off the CVS mode on the cluster hosts automatically will work with all the features of the CPU or they should be stop/start?

    VCA mode cannot be disabled for virtual machines operating in EVC mode. If you want to disable, you must stop your virtual machines before first VCA mode off.

    FYI, the VCA mode is for mixed with different hosts of the family of processors, but in your case, the VCA mode is you help to minimize downtime and the planning of your downtime for virtual machines. If you don't want to use the old family processor, then you must turn off your VM and migrate to new hosts. So in this case, you have no need to allow the VCA. This CVS is you help migrate live Webcam virtual machine to the new family of processor host without downtime. Because virtual machines live runs on the cpuID of processor mode the lowest.

    If you want to disable the VCA mode on the cluster, you need to do that there is no VMs is under tension. Because to the VCA ID CPU mode will change.

    Just my cents

  • To a new cluster of vcenter 4.1

    I have two vmware 4.1 with separate storage clusters.  The two groups have no direct access to the storage of each other.  I am all of my VM migration to the new cluster.  The latest VM on my list is vcenter himself.

    I use vswitches distributed on my new cluster.

    I'm trying to think of a simple way of migration and drop my vcenter server from one cluster to another without falling on many problems.  I can't stop it and do a server/storage vmotion because I need vcenter to vmotion.

    One idea I had was to use vmware converter to move it to the new cluster.  It power off on the old cluster and on the new power.  Everyone thinks it would work ok?

    Billy

    If you have a mount LUNS or NFS temporary swing in clusters (or at least a host of each), you can do the following:

    1 put the temp data store online in both groups

    2 storage vMotion your vCenter for storage to the swing server

    3 vSphere client as root on the host where the vCenter

    4. free off the vCenter Server

    5 unregister it / remove inventory (don't delete disk of course)

    6. client vSphere as the root of the host target in the new cluster who sees the same storage

    7 browse the approriate time shared data store, right-click the .vmx and save it

    8. Select the port vDS group appropriate to change the settings, then turn on the computer, virtual

    8. give him the time to get online and update of the inventory of the hosts

    9. open client vSphere vCenter Server

    10. notes that the summary page of the vCenter VM specifies the correct host in the new cluster

    11. when the content, svMotion in the data store permanent desired

    As always, make sure you have good backups, or a clone of standby, you can switch to if you experience complications (unlikely).  I would also make sure the target VLAN has been tested on the new cluster.  If you have problems with vCenter get the update of the inventory (unlikely), you can restart the agents of management on the source and target hosts.

  • New cluster or new pool of resources for tier 1 applications?

    Hello

    I have an existing cluster 5 node blade Esxi HP that I put in place for resource pools containing loads of pre-production and production work.  Now, we want to welcome applications from level 1 (Oracle DBs, Weblogic and middleware VMs servers).  Is there a best practice in the establishment of tier 1 workloads?  Should I add additional nodes to the cluster (until 8) and create a separate pool of resources for tier 1 applications, or should I implement a cluster 3 separate node (and generation) devoted entirely to the only level 1 workloads?  What are the advantages/disadvantages of each method?

    Thanks for your comments.

    M

    It depends on.

    (1) that you're going to develop this group even more tomorrow, or after you have added the hosts you have in mind who will be the end of the work?

    (2) how the negative risk is your boss or your client?

    (3) do you run your environment oversubscribed?

    (4) you understand the fundamentals of Resource Pools?

    Since I'm pretty risk adverse, I am tempted to create a new cluster with 4 nodes, where each node spans at least 2 or 4 chassis. Resource pools can resolve the problem of conflict of resources, but adds an extra layer of complexity to an environment that is not always welcome, and can make the diagnosis of difficult performance.

    Since you mention that you run ESXi on blades, please see the following article. I found it very informative regarding the problems of redundant N + 1 with blade configurations;

  • Problem migrating Vcenter server from the old cluster to the new cluster?

    Hey guys,.

    Just came across this situation, and I don't know what to do. I pass my vcenter server older glomerulus with hosts of esx4.0, to a more recent cluster with hosts of esxi4.1. The material of host machines are different generations, and vmotion don't migrate vcenter because of the cpu sets between cluster mismatch. If I could turn off the virtual machine and migrate it would work, but since it's my vcenter Server I can't do.

    Should I restore it on the new cluster?

    Thanks for the suggestions/tips

    Kevin

    Connect directly to the ESX host using your client vsphere, vCenter vm shutdown, vCenter remove inventory, then go to the new host, browse the data store on the vCenter vm is, and add the vCenter Server inventory.

    This assumes that the same storage is presented to both hosts.  If this isn't the case, you will need to use winscp or something similar to copy the files from the virtual machine.

  • Issue of new-Cluster

    It is possible to script creates a cluster that defines the following?

    Check HA and DRS

    Uncheck enable host followed

    Select enable CVS for Intel host

    Select Intel Xeon Core i7 in the menu drop-down

    Creating a cluster, HA and DRS checking and unchecking "enable Host Monitoring" can be done with:

    $Cluster = New-Cluster -Location $Folder -Name TestCluster -HAEnabled -DRSEnabled -DrsAutomationLevel FullyAutomated

  • new cluster resource

    Hello

    I created a new cluster to stop/start agent resource. I realized that when I stop agent by using the command "emctl stop agent", agent is restarted automatically in 3 seconds. What is the reason for this?

    Here is the command I used to create a resource:
    crsctl add resource agent -type local_resource -attr " ACTION_SCRIPT=/oracle/ora11202/grid/crs/script/agent.sh,
    DESCRIPTION=Agent, DEGREE=1, ENABLED=1, AUTO_START=restore, START_TIMEOUT=120, UPTIME_THRESHOLD=1h,
    CHECK_INTERVAL=60, STOP_TIMEOUT=120, SCRIPT_TIMEOUT=120, RESTART_ATTEMPTS=3, OFFLINE_CHECK_INTERVAL=60, START_DEPENDENCIES=, STOP_DEPENDENCIES="
    Here's the script:
    vi agent.sh

    #!/bin/sh
    export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/agent11g
    case $1 in
    'start')
       /oracle/agent11g/bin/emctl start agent
       RET=$?
    ;;
    'stop')
       /oracle/agent11g/bin/emctl stop agent
       RET=$?
    ;;
    'check')
       /oracle/agent11g/bin/emctl status agent
       RET=$?
    ;;
    esac
    exit $RET

    SQL * more is now integrated with crs now. If you stop the database with SQL * Plus, crs does not interpret this as a failure of the database and does not attempt to restart the database. But if the instance falls down for a reason, the crs will try to show the instance automatically. For example, try to kill the pmon/smon process for this instance and see what happens.

    In the case of the resource of your agent, when you stop the agent manually the crs interprets this as a defective component and try that restarts automatically. If you stop the agent via the crsctl command, then crs considers this as a defective component and he won't try to make appear the resource.

  • Deployment models for the new cluster - "A" failed to Connect to Host

    Hi all

    I reorganized my ESX 3.5 2 130756 machines in a new cluster (they were already members of another cluster & lt; - this can be an important factor here).  When I try to deploy new virtual machines from templates to the new cluster, almost immediately, the task fails with the error "failed to Connect to Host."  Here's what I did on troubleshooting:

    -I confirm that nothing has changed on the console host IP and DNS service on the ESX host configuration

    -restart services on the ESX host management - tried again, failed.

    -removed and added hosts in cluster - tried again once, didn't

    -disabled DRS on cluster - tried again, failed.

    -confirmed I can deploy templates to other clusters

    -confirmed I can deploy a new virtual machine custom again cluster manually

    -restart the ESX and vCenter server hosts

    -removed ESX cluster hosts and destroys Cluster and file

    -recreated cluster and added guests, same error

    I think I've tried all the basics, but please let me know if you think something else to try.  In the VirtualCenter newspapers, there are the following entries whenever the task fails:

    Unexpected exception received during the NfcCopy

    (SERVER_Template) (vim.fault.HostConnectFault) unexpected exception during clone. Abandonment.

    It seems that the model does not really know where he lives.  I am trying to convert a virtual machine model and try to run a migration on it to a host.

    Otherwise, you may need to remove the inventory model and look for the data store that it is and resave.

  • use: old and: new as parameters

    Hi all

    is it possible that a trigger can call a procedure and use: old and: new as parameters? Kinda like that

    create or replace trigger logTrigger after update on test_table for each line
    Start
    logProcedure (: old: new)
    end;

    create or replace procedure is logProcedure (oldRow in test_table % rowtype, newRow into test_table % rowtype)
    Start
    -do stuff
    end;

    Thanks for your help =)

    Welcome to the forum!

    You can not pass the full line
    You can pass values of individual columns, so it would be something like

    create or replace trigger logTrigger after update on test_table for each row
    begin
       logProcedure(:old.col1, :new.col1);
    end;

  • The cluster parameters

    We have a situation where vmkping has suddenly stopped working in a cluster between different hosts. two other groups in the same data center and closing works very well.

    I need a script to get all setting DRS, HA setting of all three groups to compare and also IP VMkernel and settings

    I looked the problem and decided it was too much work to build any logic in a script.

    So I decided to approach the problem from a different angle.

    All the parameters of export to an external file and use an external tool for comparing files from different groups and ESX host.

    Note that you can also use the Compare-Object cmdlet to compare external files.

    The function Get-properties in the following script was inspired by a script called list all properties available in the VI Toolbox Hugo Peeters. I have pimped his script and adding the feature to display also the value and the type of each property.

    Gets the main script

    (1) all parameters of the object ClusterConfigInfoEx cluster

    (2) all network settings, including the VmKernel portgroup leave HostNetworkInfo object

    The script generates multiple CSV files:

    (1) - network. CSV for each ESX host in each cluster containing the ESX host network settings

    function Get-Properties{
         param($BaseName)

         $row = New-Object System.Object
         $row | Add-Member -memberType NoteProperty -name Name -value ""

         $row | Add-Member -memberType NoteProperty -name Type -value ""

    Come to think of it, the script could also be used to save the settings of VI/vSphere important to external files.

    With additional logic, it could work as a kind of 'profile of the host '. Now where have I heard that name before.

    Maybe something for our VMworld session

  • Creating a new Cluster data store

    Hello

    Can we move a data store in a Cluster of data while its machines store still virtual hosting?  I was not able to find information on this. What I find the Clusters data store talking about new environments.  I'm working on an existing vSphere 5.5 but the storage of data are not grouped.  I want to place data warehouses in a Cluster of quick data without vMotioning store VMS off.

    Thank you

    You can move the datastore in the store Cluster data without any downtime, and while VMS are running on it. (This is as same as you put cluster host, while VMS are running).
