RAC 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2 to the new Cluster upgrade with any number of nodes

I'd like suggestions on upgrading a RAC Oracle 11.2.0.1 in Linux x86_64 RHEL 5.3 with 6 cases of a new cluster with 4 linux x86_64, RHEL 5.5 and upgrading to 11.2.0.2 nodes group of hotfixes.
New SAN storage will be used. Both systems use ASM.

Current system... New system
11.2.0.1... 11.2.0.2
6 instances... 4 instances
Linux RHEL 5.3 x86_64... Linux RHEL 5.5 x86_64

Method:
(1) run controls and upgrades pre scripts
(2) save the current database with RMAN and put at the disposal of the backup files to the new host
(3) install grid Infrastcure on the new cluster 11.2.0.2
(4) set up ASM on the new Cluster
(5) install the Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2 on the new cluster database and create the database with the same name of the original database.
(6) startup nomount using a parameter file and the source of DBID edited without the cars parameters (cluster_database = false, etc...)
7-restore Rman backup controlfile to step 1
(8) restore / restore incomplete database
(9) OPEN RESETLOGS UPGRADE
10) proceed to updates manual steps (script catupgrd.sql, etc.)
(11) remove the cancellations additional tablespaces e redo log son
(12) CONVERTED to THE CARS USING DBCA or RCONFIG

This method is correct? Do you offer other methods or corrections?

I also want to know if there is another thing to delete, besides redo threads and undo tablespaces, due to the smaller number of cases.

I also considered using RMAN DUPLICATE to the same version (11.2.0.1) and then MOVE to 11.2.0.2, but DOUBLE would change the DBID.

Thank you

Hello

your efforts seem valid, but its awfully difficult.

Why not simply create a watch on 11.2.0.1 and then update.
If you are using "duplicate for standby" should not change the dbid.

Then, you can just 'turn on' the night before and continue the upgrade.

    > We have to first upgrade to 11 g R2 Instance unique and then move on RAC - node 2

You must install the grid Infrastructure for Cluster and RAC database software in the new cluster.

Then upgrade the database as a single instance database.

Then, convert it to the RAC

See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/rac.112/e17264/install_rac.htm#TDPRC185 for the conversion of the measures.

    I was thinking about this:

    (1) I install clusterware on 2 new nodes.

    (2) restore database backup rman (production system)

You must first reconfigure init.ora (for all instances) with the new configuration, as remote_listener local_listener, instance_number cluster_database...

After that, you must save the database and everything what you bodies

  • Migration Oracle RAC to the new data center

    Hi all

We are 'legacy' Oracle 11 G RAC cluster from another company and I am looking for a way to migrate with the minimum of downtime. Our team has no CARS, nor database administrator Oracle also experience.

We intend to test the migration by cloning the environment a few weeks before and just see if everything is OK.

Question is, what is the best way to migrate this RAC cluster and it's data to a new data center? Reinstallation of the operating system (Linux) and recreate the RAC cluster are not an option I want to examine.

For example, in the land of SQL Server, we can use sending newspapers or replication to keep a copy of the database in the new data center as close as possible direct database (data-wise). Date of commissioning, we stop the direct instance, run last restore log or something else, then set up the databases on the new data center.

    Thanks in advance.

Data Guard. It is the name of "log shipping" feature Oracle. It's probably closer to always on SQL Server availability groups, except that the Oracle database is a large group.

I speak not Active Data Guard which is an extra cost that gives options on top of Data Guard.

  • Want to migrate the database (4node RAC) size of 4 TB of 10.2.0.5 at 11.2.0.4 on the new servers where the new type servers Primary (4 nodes) and Eve (4 nodes).

Want to migrate the database (4node RAC) 4 TB size of 10.2.0.5(8 rompt = 4 prim/4 veille) to 11.2.0.4 on the new servers where the new type servers Primary (4 nodes) and Eve (4 nodes).  So with minimum downtime I have restore and recover again on 11.2.0.4 server must then clone that to create the day before.   Here, my question is can I take 0 backupp level before hand and restore on target (new) then primary at the time to leave the downtime take backup of level 1 of 10g and then retrieve it on 11g (new server) after successful recovery I'll perform clone to form eve of database on the new server. does this strategy work? If it works, can someone suggest me steps how can I need recover with backup after restoring the backup of level 0 on 11g. Like should I upgrade before you retrieve it with level 1 backup or I can update and then recover with the level 1 backup from the old server to the new server.

Here is former servers of RHEL 5 version and new servers are RHEL 6 release.

    1 backup L0

    2 restore L0

    3. L1 and ArchiveLogs database backup

    4. copy BackupPieces L1 and ArchiveLog BackupPieces on new server

5 CATALOGUE START WITH... to catalog the BackupPieces

    6. TOGETHER until lastavailable SNA / Archivelog + 1

7 RECOVER DATABASE (should automatically identify the L1s and to apply ArchiveLogs)

    8 STOP

    9 START UPGRADE

    10. run catupgrd.sql

You should also take care on the locations of the data file, dump, instance settings destinations, all link database from the database, connectivity application etc.

  • Install RAC 11 GR 2 and apply the patches with the new Option of software updates YES

Anyone tried the installation with the new Option of software updates?

I'm going to install grid RAC 11 GR 2 and I intend to do the following steps:
    (1) install the Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2 patch group
    (2) make all configurations with YES
    (3) create ASM disks
    (4) install Oracle Database 11.2.0.2 software only
    (5) apply recommended patches 11.2.0.2.2 Oracle (12311357) and 12431716. (Ref. MOS doc [756671.1 ID])
    (6) create the RAC (advanced option) with DBCA database

    With these steps:
Grid and ASM disks would be configured without the recommended patches, but the database will be created with applied patches.

I would not do a "Software only" install IM and then apply the patches because later I would have to manually do all the configuration steps.

If I use the Option of YES software updates to apply patches, YES makes the adjustment, and then I would set up the GRID with YES?

    Quote from Oracle® Setup Guide Network Infrastructure 11 g Release 2 (11.2) for Linux - E17212 number of part-11:
'Use the feature of dynamic download and apply software upgrades of software updates as part of the installation of the Oracle database. You can also download updates separately using the downloadUpdates option and later to apply during installation by providing the location where updates. »

I could not find more detailed information on this feature in the documentation and MOS.

  • Configuration of the laptop for R12 with node 2 11g RAC database

    Hi all

I plan to buy a new computer dell laptop XPS to install Oracle Apps R12 with node 2 11g RAC DB by creating virtual machines.

    Configuration:
generation of Intel processor i5-2410 2 (2.3 GHz, core 2, 3 MB cache)
    8 GB RAM DDR3
    750 GB HARD drive
this configuration will be sufficient for the highest installation? RAM? Processor?

I've read a few threads over on this forum where people have recommended for installation of single application (11i or R12), this kind of configuration can be enough.

    Please answer.

You need at least 4 GB for installation on a single node R12. So, if you plan to have 3 VMs (1 application node) and 2 RAC nodes or 4 virtual machines (2 application and 2 RAC nodes), then I suggest that you add more memory. However, your RAM should work, but don't expect (if you go with 3 VMs) but do not expect the performance to be perfect.

  • Oracle 10g RAC + ASM + Data Guard: Question on the new disk group.

    Hello

One of our clients is to have Oracle 10 g RAC + ASM + Data Guard. Database is the disk DATA_DG1 group and FRA is on FLASH_DG1. Data Guard is a single instance on ASM.

To add more space, we can create another disc of the Group DATA_DG2 on Prod ASM and Data Guard ASM env, replication continues without any problem. Will be archiving logs shipped to the second disk DATA_DG2 group and applied without any configuration changes?

    Rgds,

    Yes, it sounds great.

You should be fine with the implementation of these measures and the dataguard should continue on as usual.

Just make sure that you are dealing with a physical standby that has not the conerts file name defined.

    Dear all,

We want to add a new node (say node5) to our current RAC 10 g 2 (on Solaris 5.9 operating system). While trying to set up ssh as detailed in the http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14205/presolar.htm#BABJBAEB documentation, I found that node5 is able to ssh to all other RAC nodes, but none of the existing nodes is able to ssh without password node5. Further investigation shows that node5 cannot do a ssh to himself without a password.

Can you please help me to solve this problem.

Check the permissions of directory on X11R6. They should be 700. Set them accordingly and try again.
I had the problem without password ssh was not possible until this that/home/oracle has been set at 700.

Also check your system log file (/ var/log/messages) to find errors SSH.

HI - can help I'm going crazy! !

I drew a shape with the tool pen (which took me Age..) and I go back an image that I imported, I cannot select once again it.  I can see it in red, but I'm not able to select once again it.  I have the selected layer, but there is no sign of it in my Panel of traces at all.  I tried clicking on the direct Selection tool (about 100 times), I tried the Brush tool.  I've tried everything.  The same thing happened to me the other day...    Please can someone help!  Tania

It's the plug technique on the subject:

    Using Photoshop | Manage paths

It contains this point under manage paths:

When using a shape or pen tool to create a work path, the new path appears as the work path in the tracks Panel. The work path is temporary; You must save it to avoid losing its contents.

OK, the red, you mentioned is a Stoke you added. Then quick mask is not involved.

  • Oracle RAC and replacement of equipment

    Hello world

next year our Oracle RAC (hardware) servers will be is more supported. We have a 2 node RAC (SE) running on Linux 5. For you, what is the strategy easier (and safer) to replace the equipment:

    • Reinstall complete with database exports / imports.
    • Adding new nodes to the cluster with new servers and delete 'old' (but it seems that the same version of operating system is required in accordance with the documentation).
    • Clone of the cluster according to the Oracle documentation on news servers.

Thank you for all your ideas. I googled a bit, but I've not found much info.

    Carlos.

    • Adding new nodes to the cluster with new servers and delete 'old' (but it seems that the same version of operating system is required in accordance with the documentation).

It's what I strive for. If your time with new nodes in the cluster is short (less than 24 hours), and you stay on the same distribution (i.e. OL5 to OL7), then several times, this isn't a problem. If you still have concerns and do not feel comfortable with this recommendation, then I'll recommend another avenue. I often used it when I was doing something similar for the production system was too critical to take no risk.

    1. Up new servers in a cluster. You can even start with the version of grid Infrastructure more later/more big who can save a future update maybe you.

      1. It will take a new OCR and voting disk new configuration.
    2. Attach the storage shared on the new cluster. For a short period of time, you will have storage mounted to both old and new.
    3. Install the RDBMS software on the new cluster. Wear on all the config files you might need more... tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora, etc..
    4. When you are ready to drop the database on the old cluster, cutting on the new cluster.
    5. Use "srvctl database add" to add the database to the new cluster.
    6. Use 'srvctl add instance' to add the instances to the new cluster.
    7. (Optional but normally a good idea), use 'srvctl add service' to add services to the new cluster.
      1. Steps 5 and 6 above usually use the same name of db, same instance names, same service name.
    8. You now have the database running on the new hardware. Stop the old servers

The only other sticking point would be handling the SCAN and traditional VIP. When I made this drive, I usually my network guy change the SCAN VIP and traditional dignitaries to be alias in DNS that point to the new VIP.

If you do your homework and have everything ready to go, the downtime can be less than 15 minutes for this approach.

    See you soon,.

  • Oracle RAC 11 g 2

    Dear gurus,

I'm relatively new to the RAC clusters and hoped someone could help me out here...

We have an oracle 11 GR 2 CARS running on a cluster of 3 nodes (all in a case, Cluster of interconnection running on infiniband switches).

We want to replace the machines running with new ones, also replacing the infiniband with switches passthrough.

    My plan was as follows

step 1 - MAJ running cluster interconnect with ethernet interface and unloading of infiniband switches

step 2 - Add the oracle software prepared new nodes or machines to the cluster running

step 3 - remove the old machines in the cluster (script deletenode)

Step 4: install switches passthrough and passthrough interface connecting pole shift.

Is this plan ok? Perhaps a better approach is also possible?

I also have a few questions for RAC...

    1. travel of the current cluster interconnect with local Interface... I have in total, 2 Ethernet ports per blade both in a single bonded interface, the public network of oracle running here... Can I move the cluster of interconnection on the same servile interface? or am I forced to have another Ethernet port?

    2. everything in preparing the new machines to add to the cluster running, I have to have the SAME GRID and DB version? Or only the same version of GRID?

-the current versions are 11.2.0.1 for grid and DB. Can I add this group machines that have the same version of grid (11.2.0.1) but a more recent version of the db (11.2.0.3)?

    Thank you

    Saad

    Hello

You don't need a separate option for dataguard.  If you use Oracle Enterprise Edition, you can use the free dataguard feature.

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/standby.htm#i72073

Oracle Data Guard is available only as a feature of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. It is not available with Oracle database Standard edition.

I would not have thought that the GI version would be useful to the dataguard.

As long you run IG at 11.2.0.3 and the BDD to 11.2.0.1, you should be fine.  You can't physical datagurd through different versions.

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/server.112/e10700/standby.htm#i72053

The same version of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition must be installed on the database and all data pending

Is it possible to convert this database to a cluster RAC 11g on the existing server, or what I need to first install the Clusterware grid and then migrate the database to the new cluster?

If the cluster and the cluster software are not present, these components must be installed and configured.
The Oracle RAC option must be added by using the Oracle Universal Installer, making it necessary to the existing DB instance must be stopped. Consider that the disks are already in stock, otherwise data (database) must be migrated to the storage.
There is no necessary changes on the user data in the database.
