New hard drive backup restore

I installed a new hard drive after backing up my old one (Snow Leopard) on Time Machine. I can't understand how to restore the backup to the new hard drive.

First install the OS on the new drive.

During the installation process (or just after, I forget exactly), it will offer you the possibility to configure the machine based on a Time Machine backup. Point it at your TM drive and come back in the morning (it will take a long time).

  • external hard drive backup restore, .swm files

I used the backup feature of my Pavilion g7 to make a backup to a hard drive external.  Then I restored the computer to the original factory State.  When I try to restore the backup, I go to the external drive, open the backup folder where the .swm files are stored and click on restore.  It then passes through what seems to ba a restore process (I can see my files on it as it loads) for about 30 minutes.  Subsequently, there is a folder on the desktop named "system recovery files", and I can't do anything with. In the meantime, none of my old files on the computer.  Very strange. have not seen another thread that looks at this issue.  Can not know what does the restore process and where my files are going, if anywhere.

    Thank you!

I would add that the disk external drive, the file restore.exe has a date of 2010 on it while the .swm files have a date of 2013. Strange, as in other posts of reading, it seems all the files created in this backup must have the same date.

    Hello

2010 is the date for the program, it won't change, but files of stormwater management are not the same unless they have the same point of restoration/time. Just run like s Adminitrator restore.exe (right click and run as administrator) and must restore it for you filws.

  • Windows XP system restore Boot Failure with new hard drive

HP Touchsmart IQ546t running Windows XP Home Edition

    Here is my story:

A few months ago my PC was informing me that a hard disk failure is imminent and how can I back up my data.

I was able to get most of the data backed up and has continued to use the PC.

    Finally, the hard drive failed.

Not being not able to find system restore disks, I ordered a set of HP.

In the meantime, I was able to save the rest of my data using an external hard drive enclosure, a laptop and a backup disk.

I used system restore discs to erase the hard drive and restore the operating system.

After the successful restoration, I was able to boot my PC and use it for a few days, but again became imminent hard disk failure message. Yet once again, the hard drive failed and I was unable to use it.

I decided to replace the hard drive, thinking I could install and use the system restore disks to get the installed operating system.

I followed all the instructions, I find and could not start the machine to the point he will recognize the recovery disc. I receive a message that tells me to insert a bootable media.

Does anyone know what I'm missing here?

Is there something I can try to get the hard drive to boot to the point he will recognize the recovery disk?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hello

OPS, sorry on this subject.  If the recovery discs are not recognized not so you act have a problem trying to get the new HDD to be restored.

Try the procedure below and see what happens.  View your results.

Cyberlink CD recovery for hard drives. When you created this CD, insert it into the system that fails to start, restart, and wait until you see a window with a green check mark.  Next, remove the CD and insert your first recovery DVDs.  Reboot the PC and go through the process of installing the operating system again.  If all goes well, it should install properly this time.

  • Restore the virtual hard drive backup on a different node with different IP and host name.

    Hi guys,.
I want to do the following.

My reliable backup strategy is the virtual hard drive backup. The database is installed on a virtual particulay machine (node). Now, I do not take the backup of the DBF files or control files or files from archive.
I rely on the virtual hard disk backup. It takes the entire Virtual Machine backup. Now, I wanted to restore this virtual hard drive backup to a different node with different IP and host name.
But before I start the database, there are some things I need to do.
As change address IP address and the hostname registered with the database installed and its services.

Please guide me through the steps on how to perform the activity.

    Concerning

    SOA admin.

I think that the whole operating system will be restored in a new virtual machine... I have it... The changes will have to be done in the file listener.ora (hostname or IPADDRESS and also PORT NO in case you want another port as the existing one). Once you have made the changes that you have to bounce the listener, I mean stop and start the listener... I don't think that any other changes are needed... Make sure that the same need for entries (from the listener) to be included in the TNSNAMES file. ORA file both client-side... The tns service is used to connect to the remote database server (from the demand side or whatever source you used to connect to the database server)... I just think that the change to do... Hope its clear... Please try...

  • Satellite L350-235 a restore disk runs on a brand new HARD drive?

    Hello

My hard drive is dead (completely) 3 days out of warranty.
Recovery discs has not yet loaded, all I had was a black screen and a mouse pointer.

So I bought a new hard drive. Problem I have now is how to install Windows on a new drive.
    What should I get Toshiba?

I obviously paid for Windows Vista, when I bought the laptop, so I'm a little confused on what to do next.
A restore disk will work on a whole new drive?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

Didn t drive recovery does not happen with the laptop because you had an option to create one using the preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator.

You now have this disc which can be ordered here:
    https://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

Boot from that disk and follow the instructions on the screen.
The recovery disk works also with the new HARD drive!

  • Is it possible to use the Acer restore disks on a new hard drive?

The hard drive on my Aspire 5251 appears to be dead. He was behaving erraticly and we tried a full restore via the program eRecovery a couple of times and it is always wrong (error 0x45d). We also tried discs that we did when the laptop is new with no luck.

I bought and installed a new hard drive, but can't get the disks to install on it either. I'm guessing that it is looking for something partitioned the original hard drive because he says that something is missing. It is more under warranty and I can't figure out how to order the full install discs from Acer. Is it possible to get these recovery discs to work?

Also, FWIW, I installed Ubuntu on the new hard drive just to see if it works, and it's so I know everything works at least.

    TIA

Yes, you can use your Acer restore on a new hard drive disks. If you have installed ubuntu, you may need to format the HARD disk and to create a partition on the disk hard so that the discs work.

  • Windows XP Pro the cloning of new hard drives (ready to use to backup discs).

Hello. I use a system dual-boot Windows XP Pro at the moment. The first instance of XP, I use for internet, test new applications, etc... (a beat hard drive). The second instance of XP, I only use my Audio Studio. Due to an an external sound card very inconsistently (Presonus Firebox), this system does not work.

"Why not just install everything on a disk?" you ask. I have operated this way until recently and have grown tired of incompatible software and need to keep my Audio Studio completely isolated from everything else.

What I did to remedy this situation is:
    (A) I bought a total of 4 hard drives SATA Seagate (unfortunately they aren't all the same capabilities. 2 x 250 GB + 300 + 500 GB.)
    (B) I bought some EZ-Swap hard drive trays. (Have the instances of XP with a C:\ root on 2 separate hard drives. One is the pace of the drive, the other only my Audio Studio. When the need to use the desired OS, I just slide into the status bar.)

Due to the fact that I'm on dial-up (there is no high speed in my area so far), "days" to completely update my Windows XP Pro.

    My goal is as follows:
    (1) to perform a clean Windows (all the hardware drivers installed except for my external sound card) and fully implemented installation up-to-date. I don't plan any change of material with the exception of my card external sound.
    (2) from there, create an exact image of the operating system that can be saved in a data cd/dvd/hard drive to copy onto a new hard drive. Image includes everything. Ex: registry entries, the drivers installed and software.

Norton Ghost is not an option, because it will have to be installed to make the image, therefore, be part of the image.

Any ideas on how I can do such a thing works? Windows 'Backup' do what I propose (an ISO standard or emulated)?

I prefer Acronis True Image of Norton Ghost. I don't know why you would want it installed in your operating system image, so just install it in your other operating system. You create a True Image bootable CD and allows to clone/disk images. Ghost or True Image - besides - will do exactly what you want. We do that all at once for clients with critical systems - clone their server to an identical disk drive hard (it must not be the same in your case) and put the spare drive in the closet in an emergency. True Image doesn't have to be installed on the target computer - just install * somewhere * so you can build the bootable CD. Or if you buy the retail version House instead of the download (what we do because we use an Enterprise version), the TI CD is probably bootable. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!
