  • best way to put in place a new iMac with saved files?

    Hi all

I'm new here so please forgive me if I've done something wrong. Just recently got a new iMac and wanted to get all my software work of music and other files installed. I used the Migration Assistant on the iMac to move files from a recent time Machine to the top of my Macbook Pro. After what seemed to be a successful migration, I noticed that Garageband, iMovie and a few other products Apple should be updated. My new iMac has been updated the newer versions until the migration wizard has been used. My questions are, it's best to go on a new set up, and never has that somehow restored my new machine settings to the previous settings of the Macbook Pro? Would it have changed anything wise speed or image and sound quality wise? of resolution, depth of bit or similar?

Thanks in advance for any help or answers.

  • Migrate messages from the Macbook Air to new iMac 2012 2016

How can I migrate all my messages (text, iMessage) of my Macbook Air to my new iMac 2012 2016? I have a lot of messages on my laptop and I want to migrate them to my iMac just to have them for reference/memory later. I do this because I would like to activate the monthly updating of message on my iPhone, so he won't have to queue all my messages it years ago and I am also reformat my old Macbook Air. Is there a way to do this? Thank you!

Messages and e-mail accounts and data are found in/Home/Library/Messages/and/Home/Library/Mail/files. Just copy the content to the same folders on the new computer.

Or you can migrate your complete folder from the old computer to the new home. This can be done using the love at first sight between the two cable and on the new computer using target disk Mode use the Migration Wizard to migrate your application. It could also be run from a time Machine or another external backup drive.

Migration will not overwrite any user account that has already been created on the new computer. MY simply creates a new Admin user account name. You will then need to switch to the newly migrated account.

  • looking to buy the new iMac, advice?

    When it comes out?

Apple said nothing about the new iMacs to come.

and we are not allowed to speculate on such things in these forums.

If you can wait until in October, when the new Mac is generally revealed.

Files transferred without doubt, but the Dock shortcuts are not connected to them.

  • Should I buy a new iMac?

I currently have an iMac that I bought in February ' 08. It has 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I'm on OS 10.6.8.  I upgraded the memory a few years ago.  Things seem to become a little slow on this subject. We may need the latest version of numbers that supposedly requires OS X 10.10.4.  Should I buy a new iMac, or are there things I can do to improve and accelerate and hold remote buying a year or two?  If I buy an iMac, should I buy a new airport because my current one is almost as old as the Mac?

    Thank you

The airport should be fine, unless you have the intention to improve your Internet connection at Gigabit speeds... WiFi has not changed that much.

It's probably a good idea to consider a new Mac in the near future, however. This one is about the end of his life.

  • Photos from iphoto imported disc ext new imac then lost new photos and photos app

Imported photos iphoto to ext drive to the new imac then lost new photos that were stored in the new «Photos for Mac»

All those Iphoto original is in my new mac now, but still using the format "iphoto". ...  Found the most recent that I had stored in the new format 'Photos for Mac' in icloud but can no longer run the new format or retrieve photos from icloud on the imac?  I'm confused... I obviously missed a few steps.  Be nice... I'm old!

iPhoto Photos are two different applications and they use different libraries.

So I understand you correctly: you have applications and different photos in two libraries?

  • Have new IMac with OSX El Capitan 10.11.1.Firefox crashes at startup, no response to the mouse.

You just bought a new IMAC. It came with OSX El Capitan 10.11.1. I used Time Machine to restore all my data and information. All deferred fine, and all my software works very well. EXCEPT FIREFOX - Version 42.0. He hangs up with a white screen at startup. Sometimes it starts and Yahoo my home screen appears, but does not recognize my mouse and does not take into account my mouse click on everything. Sometimes (rarely) Firefox start. Unfortunately, if I get out, the next time I'm daydreaming, the same white screen, etc.
I tried to restore Firefox as it is stated on their support site, but still have the same problem. Any suggestions?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the < shift >
    (Mac = Options)
key and then from Firefox. Is always the problem?

  • New iMac with El Capitan gel

I bought a new iMac 21.5 3 months ago, with an upgrade to 16 GB of RAM.  Within the first week, he started to run slowly and kept freezing.  It got worse as the weeks went by.  I got to my local Apple store where a diagnostic equipment is made, no defect found.  The Genius Bar offers a complete re-installation of software, which has been done.  The iMac continues occasionally to run slowly when on the Internet with Safari (it is better to use Firefox) and freeze until almost every day, the only way to make it work again is to turn it off and on again, by using the power button.  For the record - I have not downloaded any software Mac cleaning or similar, or any other software/applications that have been suggested elsewhere that can cause this problem.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?  After 20 years of using Mac, I'm about to take this iMac back for a full refund, after losing confidence in this particular product.  I have to say that all my previous iMac has worked flawlessly.

I am convinced that el Capitan is the problem.

    1. Disable Extensions and test them.

    Safari > Preferences > Extensions

Uncheck 'Enable the Extension' and test.

Enable the Extensions one by one and test.

To uninstall any extension, select it and click the "Uninstall" button

2 remove the test and com.apple.Safari.plist file.

    Empty the trash.

    Quit all applications.

Hold down the option key and click on the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.

Select 'Library' in the menu dropdown.

    Library > Preferences > com.apple.Safari.plist

Right-click on it and select "place it in the trash.

    Close the Finder window.

Turn it back on.    Restart Safari.

If this does not help, "put back" the com.apple.Safari.plist

Right click on the trash icon in the Dock, then select 'open '.

Right-click on the com.apple.Safari.plist and select 'Put Back'.

  • migration to the new iMac iMac

    Hi all

I am looking to buy a new iMac 27 "to replace my iMac 24" aged 8 years.

I intend to use the "Migration Wizard" (first time) and I would like clarification on a trifle of file transfers.

First, files such as emails are copied in their entirety?

Second, I assume that the "Migration Wizard" copy only through the elements still in use? In other words, it is not clone the older drive? I want to leave behind trash of the multitude of old programs, etc. which have been removed over the years and indeed to start with a completely clean Mac except for what's current.

    Thank you very much

    Steve

When you use Migration Wizard, you can choose what to bring: I suggest you bring your user account (which should bring all your letters, and documents), but do NOT bring the applications and settings.

In the old days, reinstall the applications was a pain (often searching for old CD case to find serial numbers), but now with many applications from the App store, resettlement is quick and easy (sign in with the same Apple ID and download a copy fresh and up to date).

  • I have a new iMac and I want to make a backup of my iPhone, I lost my dates of the will? because in this computer I have no backup I made before

    Hello

I bought an air iMac, and now I would like to make a backup of my iPhone on this computer.

but the question is, if I do not have the backup that I did before, it is possible that I lost my dates?

because the computer I had entered is not an iMac.

    Thank you

    Francesca

    Hello Francesca Montani,.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

Congratulations on your new iMac! I understand from your message that you want to create a backfile to your iPhone 5 c, but are afraid of losing the data on it. I know how it is important for you to keep your data on your iPhone 5 c and to create a backup file for it.

When you plug your iPhone 5 c in your new iMac, iTunes should open. Your iPhone 5 c should also receive a message asking if you trust the computer. Go ahead and trust of the computer.

iTunes should display a page that says: Welcome to iTunes and you give 2 options. You want to choose the option to play up like new. Don't worry, it will not erase anything from your iPhone. The next page, you should see if the page summary of the iPhone. You should see a picture of an iPhone and a description.

In the middle of the right side, you should see a section called manually backup and restore. To create a backup file, select Back Up Now. This article has steps and a picture to help you create an iTunes up. I have also highlighted the steps below:

The backup of your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

    iTunes

    1. Open iTunes and connect your device to your computer.
    2. If a message asks you to Trust This Computer or device password, follow the steps on the screen. If you have forgotten your password, get help.
    3. Select your iPad, iPhone or iPod when it appears in iTunes. If your device does not appear in iTunes, know what to do.
    4. If you want to save data of health and activity of your device iOS or Apple Watch, you must encrypt your backup: check the box called Encrypt [device] backup and create a memorable password.
Write down your password and store it somewhere safe, because there is no way to recover your backups iTunes without this password.
If you do not need to save your health data and activity, you can make a backup that is not encrypted. Just click Back Up Now.
    5. After the end of the process, you can see if your backup completed successfully in the iTunes preferences > devices. You should see the name of your device with the date and time that iTunes created the backup. If you encrypted your backup, you should also see next to the name of your device.

    Best regards

  • Implementation of new iMac in late 2006 iMac and external hard drive

I have a late 2006 iMac 2.16 GHz intel core 2 duo with 2.5 GB which I Lion 10.7.5.  I don't think I can improve operating systems, or more if they are not compatible.  I have an external hard drive that stores my photos, music etc I just ran out of space on iMac.  I decided to upgrade to the new iMac.  I thought that I would be able to plug in my external hard drive which has also my Time Machine backup and all the news would move to the new iMac.  However, the external hard drive is Firewire 800.  I connect it to the old iMac with adapter on the Firewire 400 port.  The new iMac has USB3.

    1. How can I connect external drive to the new iMac?  You can get a Firewire 800 cable USB3 (online research I don't think)

2 read online it seems to say that you need to update your software on your old iMac to match the new iMac otherwise the time Machine can not read information correctly.  It is not possible on the old iMac, what should I do?

I'm looking at my beautiful new iMac and the have not yet enabled.

The cable would probably be Thunderbolt to FireWire, check the available adapters

to see what should be the part. You would not upgraded an outdated old

Mac for a last OS X when he cannot go. Use the Migration Wizard or

migrate after installation. Some of these older applications or documents created

can be updated easily; Some may require conversion. Depending on your files.

The manual method is sometimes preferred. A new computer may balk

a lot of stuff which is reduced to an antique.
