New installation of Windows XP does not - UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

I'm trying to do a fresh install of Windows XP.

Soyo SY - P41 845PE Lite MB
Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz
1.5 GB of Ram

This is a computer that I use every day and who usually has a hard drive with WindowsXP SP3. I just want to have a spare hard drive with a new installation of Windows XP on it.

But installation can not. Usually to auto restart after step 'Copy files' of the installation process. The Windows splash screen appears briefly, and then blue screen message, "a problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"followed a few Advisory paragraph which does not apply because the operating system is not yet loaded, then:" technical information: * STOP: (0x8951c900) 0xc0000185 0x00000000 0x00000000. "

Once he got as far as the Windows Installer screen (one who tells me it will take 39 minutes down left) then a box seemed to read: "Fatal Error. An error was encountered which prevents the installation to continue. Installation failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The Setup logs files should contain more information. "Read the Setup log file:" error: the signature for the installation of Windows XP Professional is not valid. " The error code is 80096001. An error occurred during trust verification. »

Another time, after you press enter in the "WindowsXP installation on the selected element", I INSTANTLY got a screen which read; «An error has occurred during installation has been updated of the partition information on 152626 MB disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR].» Setup cannot continue. »

Things, that I already tried that did not work:

Using two different Windows XP Professional installation disks.

Withdrawal and tries to install with different RAM sticks in place.

Two IDE 40 son different cables, which work fine on this computer.

Two different Western Digital disks hard two test without error using the WD diagnostic utility.

My knowledge is limited, but that seems to leave only a bad card mother, right?  However, as I say, the computer works well with this old install Windows XP on it. He simply refuses to let me do a new installation on another hard drive.

What other steps can I take to get a new installation on a hard drive with this computer?

Thanks to each of you for your attention to my problem.

I spent $4 on a 80 wire cable IDE (to replace the 40-wire cable I used) and I was finally able to get Windows XP installed today.

Because I had done installations in the past with the 40 wire cable, I don't understand why it didn't work anymore. I guess the age of the cable, but I actually had multiple failures with a whole new thread 40 I had just bought. A mystery, but at least I now have a new facility and I am inclined to believe the 80 wire will make for a faster computer.

I have several hard drives in a custom PC built and installed Windows 7 on my smaller SSD mainly so I can play Fallout 3 (can not operate in Windows 10@#$%). Everything works fine but just, Windows Update runs and runs. I try to download the updates stand alone, and they just run and run with the message "search for updates on this PC." My Win7 Home Premium installation package had SP1 above. I even tried the update combined KB3125574 and he said that it is not applicable to my PC. From what I understand, MS does not pay much attention to their update servers Win7 more, but I'd appreciate any help.

  • New installation of Windows 7 does not start

I am building two identical systems and have had the same result by installing Windows 7 x 64. The installation goes perfectly well, but when it's time to reboot a few messages and re-positions of the bios as it cannot find the boot partition / OS.

The CD of installation of windows 7 cannot repair the installation because it "does not support the installed version of windows."

I did a restore CD that has worked, but he can't find a problem and after reboot everything is there and messages & re-positions.

    Any ideas?

I finally did a Windows 7 64-bit repair CD and used that to get into the command prompt and use bootrec /fixmbr and then /fixboot bootrec and which corrects the problem.

  • Installation of Windows service does not work after Windows Explorer 9 uninstalling and reinstall Explorer 8

Installation of Windows service does not work after Explorer 9 uninstallation and reinstallation of 8.  I followed several suggestions on this forum, but still no luck.  I ran the SFC system twice, who told me he had corrupted files.  "Some have been repaired and some might not be."  I then went in the event viewer after a start to the top and he stated that the 'Adobe APM service' is not found.  Also the "hpqddsvc' and the 'gupdate' is not found.  He tries to install something every time I start, but he abandoned.  I checked whether the system is on and disabled.  It's on.  There are a lot of small problems, but my main concern is the Adobe program.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe, but still get an error message that the Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. Other suggestions?

    Hi Paul,.

You must first install Service Pack 3.

After you have installed, you can run the Fixit on this site:

  • had to install the new hard drive, windows key does not

My hard drive died in my Inspiron 660. I ordered a new hard drive and a recovery Dell USB key. A recovery key for Windows 8 pro based on my recommended by Dell service tag. I installed the new drive and used the recovery key to install Windows 8 pro. I then used a third-party tool to get the product key from the BIOS. The product key does not work. I wonder if the product key on the BIOS isn't for Windows 8, Windows 8 pro. If so, the wrong recovery key recommended by Dell.

  • New installation of Windows 7 will not identify the second internal hard drive

Attempted recently to upgrade a computer running the SP3 of XP to Windows 7.  Bought the new FULL version of 7.
Have two 1 t Seagate Barracuda SATA drives on board; Operating system in partition 1 of disk C:. second disc to store data only.

Several unsuccessful attempts to install 7, but with helpful suggestions, others on this forum, (i.e., update of the BIOS, re-formatting drive C to do a clean install, etc.) finally managed to a successful installation.

All right, except that it does not find my second hard drive.  I have the disks attached ports SATA 1 & 2, but the system reads them so much as the C: drive.  The second disc appears in the BIOS Setup and Explorer as just the C: drive.

Tried to change the SATA port for second drive to 3 and 4 with the same result.  It always appears as the C: drive.

How can I get the systΦme can recognize the drive, so it can be assigned to a drive letter and I can access?  I suspect that the reformatting of the first disc for installation probably erased some boot sector/configuration info.

A side issue: before attempting to upgrade to XP, I backed up my "Documents and Settings" on an external drive.  Now that XP is passed to the computer, can I continue to use Windows Easy Transfer to retrieve all my settings and info from the program, or who's going to screw me up?

Check if the hard drive is assigned to a drive letter in disk management.

Click Start, right click on computer

    Click on management of

    Expand disk management

Select your external hard drive if its posted here

Make a right click paths and change drive letter

Restart your computer, open the computer in the start menu and see if it shows then.

  • New installation of XP, keycode does not

I recently bought a dozen Lenovo computers.  Some Thinkpad T510 and 400.  Some Thinkstation S20 and E20.  I have them all rights of Windows 7, but with XP pre-installed.  Since they came with a bunch of software assessment and some other junk on them I was just going to clean and reinstall XP.

As computers have Win 7 rights, the tag on the back is a keycode Win 7 so I used one of the key finders to get the XP key off each machine code and all have the standard Lenovo preactivated key that works only on Lenovos.  So I erased the computer and installed XP Pro on all and all installs it took the keycode.

Now normally Windows should see this keycode and detect that it is a Lenovo and not need to activate, however it prompts to activate.  But when I go to activate Windows tells me that the code is not valid.

I have a feeling is what they keycode xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx is not match HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProductID which varies according to the type of CD used to install XP Pro.  For example, if you use a CD XP Pro SP1 OEM to install XP your ProductID registry key will result in:

    XXXXX-OEM-0014324-XXXXX

And SP2 OEM will result in:

    XXXXX-OEM-0060807-XXXXX

So the question is, what the Lenovo XP Pro generates a product for the standard CD key identifier?  I probably know the answer if I does not format all the computers at the same time...

You must get a restore CD XP from Lenovo. (you will need to call them for him) You will probably need to pay for shipping. If your warranty you need to do a no-cost. (by a message I saw by Mark_Lenovo) P.S. the more likely using an OEM XP disk. (as a disc of Lenovo WILL see your key integrated)
