new monitor U2715H, old system XPS 420

Hi all - thanks for any help with this:

just bought a new monitor dell U2715H hoping to add a second screen to my current system (quite old XPS 420) output monitor DP's video card DVI x 2 - old monitor was the first location of the DVI - got a DP to DVI cable and hooked up, but new monitor not detected anywhere - video card driver updates are break.

Dell support is no help despite many try. I need a new videocard (Radeon HD1600XT) or am I missing something? I know that I am due for a whole new system, but I'm in the middle of a date deadline for a project

Thanks for any help!

Thank you! very useful after a lot of frustration :)

  • Getting NEW monitor for my system to APU AMD P6-2133W - a few Questions?

    Hi all

Get a 20-inch 1600 x 900 HP and I was wondering if I'll have any lag in games, or whatever it is, ranging from a screen size 17 inch 1280 x 720?  I know it is a big jump, and when I bought this machine in June does not then check all monitors.

Some of my friends say game will be terrible on this APU system and lag as possible with the new monitor, so a little scared now, monitor arrives tomorrow

Here are the specifications of your desktop HP Pavilion p6-2133w. According to the specifications, this model uses a processor AMD 3620 A6 w / integrated graphics Radeon™ HD 6530 D. change the monitor will really affect the graphics or cause delay. The APU and its integrated graphics are where you can encounter a problem. The only way to overcome these potential problems is to install a more powerful APU (such as the A8-3850) or a discrete graphics card and power supply.

  • Vista DVD for old XPS 420

Is it possible for me to buy a Windows Vista Home Premium 32 for my old Dell XPS 420 replacement drive?  I need to reinstall the operating system and can't find my original disk.  I have my product key and service tag.

    Thank you

    Terry

If you are in the United States or the Canada, you can ask Dell to provide the drive using this form. I don't know if Vista discs are still available or if Dell will charge you for it.

Otherwise, you can always look on eBay, etc. for a disc. If you buy a disk, it must be the exact same version of Vista installed Dell (e.g. Home Premium, 32-bit) so that your current product key to work.

But if you are going to reinstall, you might want to consider purchasing a Windows 7 disc with its own valid product key. Run Windows 7 upgrade advisor, free from Microsoft first to see what questions you have going to Win 7

  • Old system back after the upgrade.

In the past, whenever there was an update major system, the software would automatically create a new folder called "Old system" or something like that. Will be the new updated c level to win 10 identical or similar?

I feel uncomfortable with this kind of upgrade because I would have the chance to come back if I find the new unacceptable upgrade for some reason any.

It's uncomfortable for me because I'm going to Win 7, which looks and feels very different from these people familiar with Win 8, and I suspect that familiarity with Win 8 would help them adapt to win 10 more easy.

    Thank you.

  • XPS 420 - HARD drive failed, performing a clean install of Vista on the new HARD drive.

    Hey everybody,

My on my XPS 420 HARD drive failed and I'm trying to reinstall Vista using the disc that came with my machine back when I bought it.

I bought a new WD10EZEXAZ (1 TB Serial ATA HDD), he rose in the same dwelling as my old HDD (ST3750630AS * Barracuda 7200.11*). I start the PC and goto Setup, it recognizes the HARD drive in the blue menu.

Then I boot with the CD of Vista that came with my system. I proceed as indicated through the following url:

    Clean install of Vista

After its copied files, expanded the files, installed features, updates installed... it goes to "Complete Installation" and throws an error message: "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on a hardware on this computer."

I tried a few things I've seen posted on the internet, including trying to run msoobe.exe via command line. When I did, it allows me to Setup user... but finally I get sent to this message of error or another telling me I have to reinstall Windows.

I read else where some hard disks may not compatible with the Dell disk provides with my OEM machine. If this is the case, can someone advise? I really didn't want to spend $100 one another on a Windows 7 disc, but I feel like this may be my only option... but even in this case, I'm not so sure this will work or the other.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Tony

    UPDATE *.
Did some more research, I discovered my new drive HARD is an advanced HDD format... not sure if it has nothing to do with my problems (by www.wdc.com/advformat Vista should not need to perform the work before the OS being installed), but thought I would mention it.

    Thanks again for any help.

    ****************

Seems that I found the solution to my problem.

Problem has been fixed by going into the BIOS and change the Mode of Port SATA to IDE/native/AHCI native. After that, the installation worked without any problems. Seems that Windows Setup did not like the port mode is set to RAID.

Just thought I would post back everybody incase has had the same problem.

  • New HP 2011 x 20 '' LED monitor for old Dell Dimension 2400. necessary graphics card?

My in-laws have an old Dell Dimension 2400 and the monitor exploded. I bought a new HP 2011 x 20 '' LED monitor. My WIRE went to set up, and he tells her that a HMDI graphics card is required.

This is a pretty old computer. I think he might have as... 512 MB of RAM. Is there an inexpensive graphics card that will meet their needs?

And besides, when they buy the graphics card, are there all the cables that they must reach a new monitor to an old computer?

    Thank you very much!

    Nice description of Dell:
Video connector to 15 holes :-)

Seems to be a VGA connector.

From the description of the monitor:
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02643130
There is an also vga connector, so you will have no problem to connect the two.

No additional card is necessary, no other cable - just use the old vga cable.

Your only problem might be the resolution:
resolution 1600 x 900 set at the factory for the monitor.

I don't know if you can set the resolution to Dell, you should test.

Otherwise a 4:3 normal/old monitor would be better than this 'big screen' new.

  • old PC, new monitor display problems

Just bought a new monitor for my old Presario SR1500NX, but I can't adjust the screen resolution of 1600 x 900, who wants my monitor - it has a maximum setting of 1024 x 768. (Monitor = from HP2009m, widescreen) The graphics in my PC is "VIA / S3G UniChrome IGP. When I go to the tab view S3 it shows "Display devices" like an old CRT monitor, which I did not. I was using an older 17 '' LCD monitor 4:3 in the last 3 years, & it worked out of this video card, but my new widescreen monitor display is "stretched veeerrryyyy." I think I need a new "video card", correct? If so, can you recommend one if I can buy and install it (I printed installation instructions of a new video from the HP Web site card for my PC). I'm kind of smart with the software, but not the hardware side of computers. I installed more RAM on my PC, so I'm not familiar with the inside. (And no, I can't afford a new computer right now - I know that mine is old, but it works perfectly for my needs, I wanted just a new, larger monitor!) Thanks for any help you can give me.

AG, here is a video card that should work with your power supply and a new monitor.  It is not a barn burner, but a lot more than the maximum resolution that is required to run it.  It is said that the minimum power is 300W.  However, manufacturers tend to overstate the power requirements of their cards.  Read the customer reviews and specifications on the product Page.  This will give you some good information.

The card should improve the performance of your computer, too.  It will free the system memory that is shared with the video chip and add video memory on the card itself.  You could improve the memory to 2 GB to increase performance even more.

I have an old Mac Mini with a DVI Port that came with a VGA DVI-adapter.  Tonight, my monitor went down.  Brand new monitor works with that? Any recommendations? Can I use an adapter?  If yes should which adapter I?

You can use any DVI monitor DVI port directly or have any VGA monitor with the power that you adapter. A HDMI monitor might work with an adapter DVI to HDMI in a pinch, but HDMI tends to be more fickle.

  • I think to buy a new MacBook to replace my MacBook pro mid-2010, which still runs but becomes slow.  They say the current MacBook pro without retina display (which I don't think I need) is an old system and may be obsolete soon - true?

I'm buying a new MacBook to replace my mid-2010 MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 duo, 4 GB of memory, which always runs, but becomes slow.   I don't think I need retina display (if I have a lot of photos and films on the subject), but I was told that the MacBook Pro without screen retina was an old system that Apple could not support much longer. Is this true?

    Barbara cfrompa says:

but I was told that the MacBook Pro without screen retina was an old system that Apple could not support much longer. Is this true?

Apple only can answer such a question, and the terms of use for these forums discourage us discuss what Apple plans to do.

I too have a MBP 2010.  I installed an SSD and that increased performance.  Consider that as an option.

You may experience other problems that slows down your MBP.  Before commit you the important cash for a new MBP, examine the potential software problems that may be responsible for the poor performance.  With the SSD, my 2010 works better than the day he came out of the box.

    Ciao.

Command-r does not work on a 10.6.8 system, you would need 10.7 Lion or better to do. If you try to install a new system and that you have already downloaded, then go to your Applications folder and double-click "install OS X...". »

  • New HARD drive system works well, can I re - connect old system HARD drive?

Having to buy and install a new system SATA disk, I would like to re - install the original system disk to restore some data that was not included in the backup.

My old drive failed allow connection by cutting the keyboard and the mouse after post is completed. With the help of members, I tried several routs to a restore point, but I missed gradually restore points for trying.

So if I turned off the system and plug the old system SATA drive I create a conflict with two disks with numbered volumes C:\?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Bravo, Bob

    You are welcome

If it makes a difference at one of my default computer will choose the original as boot drive drive, even if its been removed and a new drive installed, then the old disk installed next to the new drive. This is why you should check the settings of the BIOS as described in my previous post.

  • New Dell XPS 420 Disk Partition/Division

    Hi all

I just received my new Dell XPS 420 with 500 GB drive.  Default disk configuration is 1 BIG partion (unless of course another partition for the recovery disc).

I need my drive partitioned at least 2 or 3 scores, however there is no option to specify your wishes for the disk partitioning when you order from Dell Online (I hope they have this option in the future).

I was thinking two things to work around this problem:

    (1) use the Windows Vista 'Shrink the Volume' feature to shrink the C drive in the smallest size and create a new volume for my data.

    2) restore from "Restore the Image" but I don't know if you can specify the partition of drive during the restoration of the image.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

  • XPS 420 system battery voltage is low

When restarting my computer Dell XPS 420, I get the error "system battery voltage is low.  I have 3 options: F1 to continue, F2 to setup utility and F5 for on-Board Diagnostics.

I did all 3, but the error never goes away.

    What should I do?

Looks like the battery on the motherboard is out. You must open the computer, remove the battery and replace it.  According to me, that they are of types CR 2023 you can find at Wal-Mart, Target, anywhere else.

  • importing data from the old system to the new system, key to the raw16 column

    Hi, experts,

now I have a new system, the design of the system is to use raw (16) column as the key column in all tables of database.
of course, when the new system goes live (in production), new records of transactions are written to the new database system.
When the new system inserts new records, it manages itself to avoid any conflict of the raw key column value (16)

Now, I'm dealing with this problem:

I need to import data from the old system to the new system, I use sys_guid() to fill the column raw (16) into the new database system.
How can I avoid conflicts of raw column value (16) between the old system data and the new data of database system?

the sql code I write is very simple:

    insert into new_sys_table_a (key_column_raw_16,...,...)
    Select sys_guid(), old_sys_col_a, old_sys_col_b
    of old_sys_table_a;
    insert into new_sys_table_a (key_column_raw_16, col1, col2 )
    select key_column_raw_16, col1, col2
    from old_sys_table_a;
