It originally had four drives of 500 GB in RAID 5 MFT, shared between the system and your data.  A year ago, I added a 500 GB drive and the extended partition of data. Now, the data partition becomes new so I would like to add another disk.  Since it is not a GPT disk (the BIOS does not start on a GPT disk) I can't extend the data beyond 2 TB partition but I can live with that by shuffling stuff around with a third partition.

  Windows does NOT recognize a greater - than - 2 TB disk without TPG - this isn't simply a limitation of the partition.

  At this point, there is no way to remove the disc from the matrix, so you'll have to do a backup/restore of a newly configured small table... or add an another disk (s) of the new and set up a new table (each table is seen by the operating system as a separate 'disc'), lose the availability of a disk, but spare the downtime and the headaches of a backup/restore.

• External hard drive in the Device Manager but not in disk management

  So I have this external hard drive Western Digital 1 TB. I've had for over a year now and it was working fine. I would like to trade my XBox 360 and the computerregularly.   Sounds like a problem of partition (maybe corrupted partition tables) if the device is recognized, but not the 'disk '.

  There are recovery/repair partition about tools.  Western Digital actually have some but I think that they are made for internal drives.

  If I were you, I start with WD and start looking for partition recovery/repair tools.  If this is the problem then it is the right kind of problem and you using the right type of solution can fix it easily.

  If this is not the case, some data recovery tools can help you recover some files even if you have to recreate a new partition, although I wish you much luck with this approach!

  Good luck whatever you try and make sure that you do not overwrite the what partition information, you have without making backups (many partition edititing software will offer backups)

  You have discovered a problem with Windows 7. To resolve this problem, I recommend a program called FileMenu Tools. You can download the portable freeware from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/System/System-Enhancements/FileMenu-Tools-Portable.shtml .

  After having downloaded and installed the program, you will notice that, by default, each option is checked. I would be much more selective on this subject, otherwise your context menu will be a full page long! When the main window opens, you will see a list on the right side of all the elements that can be added to the context menu. Start weeding through the list and every one to take away, you don't need the United Nationsby checking the box.

  Once you have completed your selection (de-selections) make sure that you click the green check mark in the row of icons at the top of the left window of the interface to 'Apply' of your choice. The program can do much more, but that answers your specific question. I am told that the program has a good help file, so try here if you are interested.

  You can create the new partition of the available free space. For example, if you have 1 TB in C and suppose that 500 GB is free, you can do a right click on C in disk management and select reduce the Volume. Make sure that you have selected the new volume lower than the space available for free so enter you anything according to your requirement, but be sure that it is less than 500 GB. In seconds, you have new volume, call it as D or whatever you want. Similarly, you can create E, F and so on.
