New to CSS! Attach a Style sheet to exsisting site

Hello

IM self taught so I need help in a really basic style please!

Ive got a Web site that Ive made myself, learning via youtube, etc! Im trying to figure out the css company!  After a LOT of trial and error, I think im slowly tackle, but I could do with a little help!

Basically, I THINK Ive been doing is adding styles to a single page and Ive found that I can now focus on the styles via copy and paste the CSS at the top of each page and paste in the following page individually... BUT I suspect that the right way to do this would actually implement a separate style sheet that applies to the entire site, however, A) I'm not sure how to proceed, and B) my site works OK at the mo, it will be this mess the site if added AFTER the site is already at work?

Evidence of stupid answers please! x

Yes, you need to place your styles in a separate style sheet. There are two ways to go, but one this is. On the file menu, create a CSS page and save it in a folder of your choice and the name of your choice. Find a page that uses as many rules as possible and make a backup copy. Then, attach the stylesheet for this page, sorry don't remember the menu, it's slot, but you should get a browse dialog box to find and select the CSS file. This will place the correct references to the external page on your page. Delete the page CSS styles, download both files and test.

    I went to DW CS6 CC and found what appears to be a bug:

    If anyone else has experienced this?

    Hi filip0,

    Thank you for reporting this issue to us. We are aware of this problem and you can expect to which will be fixed in the next update of DW.

    This only happens when the Panel CSS Designer is closed and you happened to revive DW and try to attach a style sheet.

    I suggest you to have CSS Designer panel open and test this workflow. You can find it at window > CSS Designer

  • Attach the style sheet does nothing

    Hi all

    I have editable regions put in place for InContextEditing and have only a few of the boxes checked ' style', BUT I'm trying ' style sheet ' in the property of ice bar and it will not work.  The style sheet is attached to the General page in the < head > section of course.  But it will not focus on InContextEditing.

    And therefore no style is available for the end user / Editor toolbar edition as she tries to change pages.

    How to solve this problem?

    Tim

    Hi Tim,.

    Have you clicking on the button "Manage available CSS Classes" from the InContext Editing Panel insert into Dreamweaver? Your code does not show that the style sheet is available for InContext Editing.

    Your stylesheet link reads as follows:

    If it were available to InContext Editing, it should read:

    Try to use the button manage the CSS Classes available again, or you could just insert ice: class = "" * "in the source code of your link tag."

    Best regards

  • Hide elements with CSS size screen style sheets?

    I have a little trouble finding ways to hide from the elements with the size of the screen.  I have a set of mobile entertainment for a menu that has to hide the desktop of style.css.  I guess I'll have to add JS instead of a visibility: hidden; on the div id?  Thank you if you are able to help, a little lost on this.

    I don't know what it is that you are trying to hide/show, so my example is simple. Please take a look at the compositionReady Manager resize() if else statement.

  • Two style sheets in a page?

    Confused here lol.

    I want to create a page that contains two style sheets. A sheet is for the menu drop down. The other is for a photo gallery. Looking at this page, it seems that this is possible. How can it be done please?

    When you attach a style sheet, simply repeat the process twice.  You can access this window-> CSS Styles, or Format-> Styles CSS-> attach a Style sheet.

  • "Recursive" error when you try to join my CSS Style sheet

    I'm totally new to CS5 - in your tutorial (create your first website - part 2: creating the page layout) which I followed to the letter, it guides you through to attach a style sheet in the ccs html file.

    I get the error message "an import style recursive was found. in the dialog box to attach an external Style sheet, there are two options one is 'Import' and the other is 'link '. Link is grayed out? So I can't select it. It would seem that there may be a problem with your tutorial?

    Here is my code that I checked and rechecked.

    I noticed that on that three other discussions has not solved the problem?

    I hope someone can help

    < div id = "right_column" > content ID "right_column" goes here < / div >

    < / div >

    < / body >

    The recursive error is caused by trying to set the stylesheet to himself. Make sure that the HTML document is open in the Document window, then click on inside the document to give it focus before trying to set the style sheet.

  • CSS referencing of components shared/Cascading Style Sheets

    Apex 4.0

    I was placing my CSS stylesheet in Shared components/Cascading Style Sheets. And reference as follows < link type = "text/css" rel = "stylesheet" media = "screen" href = "#WORKSPACE_IMAGES #app300.css" >.

    For the weeks everything seemed to work very well. Changes to app300.css in Cascading Style sheets. Clear the cache. And see my change.

    But suddenly it has stopped working. Do not take my updates more precisely. I have firebug and look at the file in CSS and don't see my changes. APP300. CSS does not change. Then, I deleted app300.css of Shared components/Cascading Style Sheets. The file is deleted. Is no longer in the Panel of Cascading Style Sheets. But the old file still appears when I look in firebug.

    Just a cramp brain for me. I know it's probably obvious, but I can't understand it.

    Hello

    If your file always recides in the database, you can try to remove a procedure from the wwv_flow_api package:

    Set serveroutput on

    declare

    number of l_security_group_id;

    Start

    Select workspace_id from l_security_group_id

    of APEX_040000.APEX_WORKSPACES;

    wwv_flow_api.set_security_group_id

    (p_security_group_id-online l_security_group_id);

    wwv_flow_api.create_or_remove_file

    (p_name-online "app300.css"

    , p_location-online "WORKSPACE."

    , p_mode-online 'DELETE '.

    , p_type-online 'CSS '.

    );

    commit;

    end;

    You can run this SQL developer help / Toad or any program you use, but I don't think that you can run in the SQL for Apex workshop.

    Run as owner of the workspace.

    First part sets the engine apex point to the id of the correct workspace in Apex, change "APEX040000" to match your version of the Apex.

    Second part is the procedure that should remove your file from the database.

    Make sure you post your changes and try to re-download your css file.

    Kind regards

  • Questions from the media for the Dreamweaver Sites without style sheets?

    Can someone tell me if it is possible to create queries to support for existing websites created in Dreamweaver using the 'design' without style sheets? I watched a lot of videos and read a lot of articles, but they don't show me how to do this without style sheets. Some of these sites are large and it would take me ages each other again start completely from scratch. I am looking for a simple solution.

    I haven't used this product but PVII has excellent customer support.  If you show them one of the pages of your site, I'm sure they can tell you if it will work or not.

    The attributes height and width of stripping?  Yes.  Otherwise the CSS code below

    IMG {max-width: 100 %}}

    Has zero effect on your images.  The idea here is to put some CSS in a style sheet large site that is shared by all of your HTML pages, so you don't have to resize the images manually.   Do it on a test page to see your results.

  • How can I the CSS Styles Panel to view the list of styles in external style sheet?

    Hi all

    I'm having a devil of a time getting my CSS Styles Panel to see the styles of my style sheet attached. Yesterday, he worked as usual, and today it does not work. I feel that I tried all my options. Usually, I work in "All" instead of "Current" so I can see the entire list and have to do not refer to the CSS page. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    In addition, even if I have a style sheet attached, whenever I made a new style he puts it in my HTML page. What is probably related as well.

    In addition, this is the link of code which is in my HTML: < link href = "Alto.css" rel = "stylesheet" type = "text/css" / > "

    So, how can I get this Panel to view the list of styles? <-I can click on a timeline without going back to the CSS page.

    Thank you!

  • Style sheets attached to losing during the updating of model

    I create a new site using Dreamweaver CS3, temporarily transferred to:

    http://www.sharpeacademy.co.UK/Nick-Jackson.co.UK/sharpeacademy/theatrearts/

    All my pages are created from a master template that contains the formatting for the header, sidebar and footer.

    When these pages were created, I joined the new stylesheets as and when I added new sections to the main content area.

    Is the problem that I have now, when I update the model that all these style sheets are detached from the relevent pages and I have to reinstall every time. I tried to attach them to the model, but it did not help.

    When I place the link inside or update the model that I lose the fomatting.

    When I re - joining the stylesheet through the css palette, it is Dreamweaver which puts the link here:

    http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.DTD">
    http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

    Your comments leave me scratching my head because you are saying something that is completely impossible!  Update a model cannot possibly modify content in all areas can be changed to a child page - otherwise you could ever have unique content on any page of the child in your site.  And using DW to add a linked CSS file to a page of child model may not be adds this link in a region cannot be changed on the child page, since this is not how the markup model works in DW.

    I have no doubt that you describe precisely what you see, however.  So we clearly have to Miss essential information on your environment or configuration.  At the moment I can't imagine any scenario that would produce these symptoms, however.  Can you transfer your template somewhere and post a link directly to it, so we can start looking for the missing link in the template code?

    In addition, please tell us - do you use nested templates?

  • Should each new page that I join my home page have its own style sheet?

    Each new page that I join my home page should have its own style sheet or should this simply go on the homepage one?

    Sometimes I break the CSS to the top, using a style sheet 'main' for those elements that are common to all pages and a sheet of styles that are unique to one or two inside pages. I find split styles as it makes them easier to develop my web pages and usually leave as stand-alone CSS.

    Yes, I do it as well, depending on the complexity of the design site is. If the layout varies very widely from one page to the other then this a good approach to take.

  • How do you get the 3 different style sheets CSS sample in 3 different areas of DW presentation?

    I added the css example 3 leaves that I use in my style site.  Now, I am trying to bring a different sample of css in different sections of the track.  Example:

    Box 1: green/yellow

    Box 2: red/yellow

    In the Middle: blue/yellow

    I seem to be only able to have one for the entire page.  Is this true?

    What I do is clicking the div tag: < div.sidebar # sidebar1″ >, then 'edit CSS' and then scroll the window of the class "attach the stylesheet" and nothing at the bottom a link to the sample css style sheets.  I click on the one that I want and it changes the css for the entire page, not just the box 1. Is there a way I can get a css style sheet different samples for each sidebar in a layout 3 columns and a different sample of css for the environment?

    Thank you very much

    You can not gather 3 of sample CSS style sheets because there are areas defined as tables and lists and paragraphs which are just be redefined.  So what is happening, is that the browser chooses (usually the last game) the instructions that he wants to use to display the content.  The only way around this is to save a copy of the CSS 3 documents, then open them at the same time.  Then use them as your master that will be linked to the page and grab the colors of other CSS documents.

  • Spend my CSS of a page in a style sheet.

    I'm learning Dreamweaver on Lynda.com.  One of the disadvantages to learning on the internet, it's that there are a few things that I don't understand.   I started the page layout for my site and am pretty much done with my first page.  I've written several CSS rules, and the layout is superb.  All these rules are in my code on my page "index.htm".  Now, I want to duplicate my page and just fine-tune each new page.

    Is it better to reproduce my index page and rename it, or do I move all CSS rules in a style sheet?  Most of the time my period will remain the same (header, container, sidebar1″, footer), but on my sidebar2 (an image gallery) and maincontent will change.  How to export CSS rules to a style sheet and then have a new page the rules apply?

    I hope that this does not seem a silly question.

    Thank you!

    Gary

    There are 3 ways to use CSS:

    • Online: styles applied to the HTML code between theTags.  This is not usually recommended.
    • Embedded: inside tags between thetags in your HTML document. This code applies only one page.
    • External: a physical file containing nothing else that CSS code and applies to all pages of the site which are connected.

    DW hit file, new, page CSS.  In code view, copy the HTML CSS in your HTML page code and paste it into the new page CSS.  Save as something_meaningful.css

    Sheet external link in DW.

  • CSS Style sheet will not join?

    I'm doing some changes on the pages a designer has done for me, so I saved the page using the Firefox browser. He opened and the CSS is located in a directory, but it does not come. I try a style of attachment sheet, navigate and select the .css file, and when I try to make the attachment, he said the file "appears to be an html file and cannot be opened as css."

    ??

    But it is a CSS file, a copy of the style sheet on the web associated with the Web page active. If I save and download the files and the page on my own server it works / looks very good. But not inside dreamweaver.

    Any ideas? Thank you.

    the error message may be correct.

    URL address to the downloaded page so please the code and associated

  • My own starter CSS Style sheet

    When I go to a new Document, I want my own Starter style sheet (with the code outlined in the way I like, design classes, major base fonts, etc) appears under "category: CSS Style Sheets" or "Page designs (CSS). How can I do this?

    To do this, you would have to edit some internal files in DW.
    Specifically, you need to add to your page (with a corresponding picture)
    the folder in this location-

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS4\configuration\BuiltIn\Layouts

    (PC, of course)

    On a Mac, they are here - Applications: Adobe Dreamweaver CS4:
    configuration: BuiltIn: Layouts

    It would be much easier to simply create a template for this site.
