New to Lr and all my folders on my desk somehow!

I am new to Lightroom and not most computer savy guy in the room. I used the plugin to move my library to open. He succeeded, but I went to referenced before using the plugin. I spent the last hours of grooming since my projects imported into Lightroom and files and not collections. I've read online a suggestion not to mess with files and use collections if my plan is to have a folder for each year that holds all of this years pictures and a collection for each year filled with collections that represent what were once projects.

The Office on my MacBook Pro was not visible due to open windows, etc... Things began to slow down and when I hid everything from the office, I see that all these files are not in my photos folder but on the desktop. I don't know how it happened when I created new folders I have them created in my pictures folder.

The solution is as simple as opening a finder window and drag and drop of these folders on the desktop in the pictures folder? What has caused this in the first place and how can I prevent this from happening in the future when you import a memory card.

My apologies for these basic questions, but I have always been more than a user of my computer as an organizer - if that makes sense. The simpler and more intuitive the better - one of the reasons why I went with a Mac when I started with computers. Don't want to move things without knowing what exactly what I'm doing and potentially make things worse.

Yes, the location of the folder is easily corrected.

Using the Finder, move the folders from your "office" to a more appropriate folder.

Then go to the records of the library made LR module Panel right click on the above files now 'missing' and say LR where you move them to LR will reconnect everything under the folder.

When you import your images from memory cards, pay attention to your 'destination folder' on the right side of the import dialog box.

Worth years of images in a single folder is probably a bad idea in drops in file system performance when too many files are placed in a single folder. Organization of individual days would be preferable, organizing a month would be better than nothing.

Contact your carrier and make sure that your account is configured correctly. Then go to settings/general/to comments and press the network name; This will cause the exceptional carrier updates to install (you will see a dialog box saying if an update is needed). In addition, go to settings/general/reset - Reset network settings if none of these fix. You will lose the WiFi passwords, but nothing else.

  • All my folders & files found themselves somehow listed under the network folder.

All my folders & files are one screwed mess, some have even ended up empty! I don't know what happened or how to restore. System Restore has not worked & if I reset to defaults facotry, I'm afraid to lose everything. Any help?

    Hi Kat Alexni L,.

Method 1: Run the fixit available in the links below and check if that makes a difference-Worth to try

Diagnose and repair Windows files and folders problems automatically
Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

Note: FixIt would attempt to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, in the course of this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular area.

Method 2: Start the computer in safe mode, and then check. To do this, follow the steps below:

Access Advanced Startup menu options by turning on your computer and pressing the button F8 continuously until Windows starts. In the advanced startup options select Safe Mode

    Startup options (including safe mode)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

This could be an activity of the virus,

Method 3: Run Microsoft Security scanner (MSS) to any threat and try to correct

Note: Infected files can be deleted from your computer; There is a chance of data loss.

  • Switching computers and all my folders inside lightroom have an exclamation mark

I am moving a laptop more aged to a new... so I moved all my files (not only related LR, but all my stuff) from the old computer to an external hard drive.

Here's some info to help solve the problem:

1-all my original photos have not moved or changed names... they were always in the external hard drive already

    2. in the older laptop was a folder called 'My lightroom photos' and inside was files such as: backups, my previews of photos from lightroom, the catalog itself, and some temporary files.

    3. I moved the folder described in #2 in my external hard drive and then click on the catalog to open and found that all of my folders have an exclamation mark next to them.

It seems not inappropriate that I would need to right click on a folder of LR to say where he is, because the original photos have moved. Well, I tried and then the folder disappeared from the LR instead of staying in the same place and be just good to be used (less the questions mark), so everything seems wrong.

Someone has an idea of what I can do to solve the problem?

    Thank you

    Sandra

Since you don't tell us your oeprating system, let me assume its windows and pointed out that an external hard drive can be E: on a single computer and F: on another, and so Lightroom think that photos have moved. If its E: on both computers, then you wouldn't have this problem. You can ask Windows to the letter of the drive to return to what it was on the old computer.

Your file is not missing. If you have followed the procedure (sounds like you did), then instead of looking for the file (to continue the example above) your drive E: in Lightroom, it's gone, but found in the F: drive because you say Lightroom to get these pictures on the F: drive.

I tend to agree with David's response above. If you are in the place of purchase return period, bring in replacement. If not Contact HP for warranty repair.

  • I lost all my folders and files from all contexts of my. Is there a way I can find my file and contects and transfer them to my new email address?

    folder and transfer contects

Some used body my e-mail and now I have to create a new account. I lost all my folders and files all my contects.is there anyway I can find my file and contects and transfer them to my e.mail new address, I am one who is suffring now .i should add every thing from the bigning.i had this acct almost 10 years.

If you use Outlook Express, then locate the *.wab computer.  If this is not the case, then you must be specific to the subject what email program you use, and what form of e-mail account you have and what operating system you are using, as your questions depend on this, and we have no idea if not.

  • Created a new catalog in Lightroom 3 and all my files/folders are "gone".

Of course, I'm pretty new with Lightroom, but I am quite at a loss to explain what happened.  I wanted to create a new catalog to move files in.  I went to file > new catalog, and then "create a folder with the new catalog" dialog box, I typed in my new name and press "Save".  Boom.  Lightroom closed right.  When I opened upward, all my folders and catologs disappeared.  Nothing is displayed in the navigation section of the left side, other than securities, "Catalogs", "Files", "Collections", etc and they are empty.  In 'My Computer' all the files are still there with the DNG files in place, but LR will not show them to me.  Can someone please explain to me why I can access is no longer my catalogs?  I hope it is something simple that I just keep overlooking...

If Lightroom shuts down accidentally (computer crash, Lightroom crash, power failure) a .lock file is usually left. There are good reasons why the database creates this locking file, which I won't get in, but basically impossible to open your file catalog again until the .lock file is deleted from the hard drive.

Recommended... some people write metadata in files, others do not. It certainly isn't a necessary step. I think that the main advantage to do this, if you want to share photos with other users of Adobe products that can read the changes (LR, PS, bridge or PSE); or if you want to share other metadata (keywrods, legends, location, etc.) in the file with other people or other applications that can read these other metadata. There is therefore, no recommended way to go, there is only the way that fits your needs. The main tool to protect you against the loss of data is the Catalog backup, as there are a few things in the catalog that are never written in the metadata.

If you want to use as your first photographic application, Lightroom I advice to look at some of the many videos on Lightroom that are available online. I would also advise against Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski, as (according to me), their opinion is often off of the brand or simply bad advice.

  • Anything before April 12 went from my Inbox, all other folders are intact. They went on Inbox.dbx and if so how I get back them?

Without any input from me, my Inbox went to 12 April. All other folders, deleted items still contains items deleted two weeks ago sent items and folders are still there intact. There is an Inbox.dbx file, which is a great, this could be where they were and how to open it?

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
    http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

    Why mail disappears:
    http://www.insideoe.com/problems/bugs.htm#mailgone

    Recovery methods:

If you are running XP/SP3, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
    http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx

    And see:

    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

    And backup often.

I opened outlook express and all my emails and I created folders disappeared. Are they gone forever? Ideas?

It looks like a new OE has been created? File | Identities. Y at - it a list?

If this is not the case, look for your message store folder. While following the path, when you get to the identities, see if there is a second appearing, and if this identity has for folders dbx files you are missing.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

The path to the message will be very similar to this:

  • Easy transfer Windows spilled all my folders and files in the C: OS drive.

I don't know if I've done something right or if it is a real problem. I used my wired network and Windows Easy Transfer to transfer files and folders of old readers logics partioned 5 XP to my new family Win 7 Premium 64 bit, also with a hard drive partitioned. Transfer all the folders and files placed in the new Win 7 C: OS drive. What a nightmare! I had to return the computer to factory settings (out of the box) and all over again.

I should have been smarter. After all, how a stupid machine knowledge where to put each logical drives and folders without receiving instructions. But then it should have been a warning that the machine is not do miracles.

Caution: do not use Windows Easy Transfer if you have a partitioned hard drive.

  • New session started with an advertising page and all my tabs are lost

New session started with an advertising page and all my tabs are lost. Restore the previous session is not active. How can I restore my tabs?

    Great work!

Sessionstore.bak files are ancient, probably autour time that you have installed Firefox 33 when the sessionstore-backup folder has been added.

To try using one or more files in the sessionstore-backup folder, here is the process:

    (1) exit Firefox and it must create a sessionstore.js from the main level of the profile folder file.

    (2) rename sessionstore.js to sessionstore.old file, or if you think that you will ever need, delete it.

    (3) copy in recovery.js or previous.js and rename sessionstore.js.

    (4) start Firefox then try to restore previous Session. Those are the tabs you want? If this isn't the case, you can try one of the other files in your backup sessionstore-backup.

If none of the files has the missing tabs, you could try a recent Windows restore point. It's more complicated on Windows 8 on Windows 7, and you could benefit from using a third-party utility. These have been mentioned in another thread:

Or... I read on a roundabout way to get previous Versions on the Properties dialog box in Windows 8. I can't test it myself, but here's what you do:

In the address bar of your Windows Explorer dialog box, replace the current path with the following and press ENTER:

    \\localhost\c$

Then click at the end and nail on the following (with your user name) and press ENTER:

    \Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

That should help you in the vicinity of your profile folder. Then you can right-click sessionstore.js > properties > Previous Versions, or try one of the files in sessionstore-backups.
