New to Oracle, would like to know the authentication process

Hello

I am new to Oracle. I would like to know how the operation of the authentication of the user if the database is closed and one instance runs?

Naveen.

Naveen,
Welcome to Oralce forums/community. If you're new to Oracle, the first thing to learn is to start reading the Oralce documentation which is an excellent and free resource for learning.
There are many methods of authentication that are supported by oracle. You can read all here,
http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/security.htm#sthref2682
At the point where the database is out of service and portion of memory dead it is to say the instance is there, no normal user and/or the dba user is allowed to log on. At that time, only the superuser, system is allowed to log on and it should start the database to other users to connect to it.
For the user Sys to connect, there may be two ways, you can be using operating system authentication which requires underlying to authenticate your log in. The other may be using file password that contains the password for the Sys user and is created using Orapwd util. using these two techniques, you can connect to oracle as user Sys while the instance is available.
