New/updated nine HP Desktop Win 7 Pro - need help or advice

Honestly, I do this for a dear friend and I would like to keep it this way!  Its xp fell under the "ms tech phone call" scam, and while I don't know if it'll never work, once again, she bought the following:

HP Compaq 6000 Pro Small Form Factor (tour info)

System - Dell: Intel Core 2Duo E7500 2.93: 4gm memory ram: 64-bit (info via prop comp)

This is a refurbished pc.  I activate with the product key provided.  Set a restore point; installed hp photosmart more printer via the cd and google Canary worm 52.0.2715.0; There is a Mediatek RT2870 LAN card 12/04/16 1.5.38.101 WiFi adapter

Windows Defender > used 3 hours "search for updates" after I downloaded from ms site, definitions, I think. From my own experience some years back I remember (with great pain) this problem.

Wanting a good place to start "solid":

  • uninstalled MS security essentials
  • windows update is the KB976902 11/20/2010
  • directly ran here!

My Question: What do I do then?  Download all updates for win 7, I guess and then Defender.  I'm sure she'll switch to windows 10 to 99%, so I should make a bee line it?  Given that I'll be 'teaching' his 10 windows and it comes from xp I thought it would be easier to dip in the first 7...

My excuse for the length, it's my first post to the community after years of reading others.   Instead of recent viruses, including my edge get hi-jacked little time after my upgrade to win 10, I want to continue with the installation in the "right direction."

According to the description, it seems that you have properly installed Windows 7 on your computer, but facing problem in the installation of updates. Correct me if I'm wrong. This problem may occur if one or more of the following conditions are met:

  1. The Windows Update database is damaged.
  2. Antivirus software is configured to scan the folder % Windir%\SoftwareDistribution.
  3. Service (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service does not receive a content link header.
  4. A required system file is incorrectly registered.

    -plus a new module of RAM of 512 MB which could be installed.

    -a new, but not installed, updated graphics card.

    These two were going to be installed, but the client fell sick and recently passed away.

    While this desktop computer is older, it has been used very little, 'C' part of the HD less than 30 GB of 105 GB used, less than 2% of disk fragmentation, no scratches, dents, original basic mouse and keyboard... excellent shape.

    In order to remove the HP 2000 desktop computer, I suggest the following...

    (A) delete all the old software, except the WIN - XP.

    (B) defrag the HD.

    (C) the Win - XP, SP1 rollback "original updated" status. HP support pages imply that he is a "clean install". HP has the SP1 of Win - XP original on a segment of "recovery" of the HD.

    What else is necessary (I guess)...

    1. install the new 512 MD RAM module.

    2. check that the current power out sufficient to manage the 'new' graphics card (requires 250 watt power)... and install the new graphics card... or just stay with the existing graphics capabilities if the power supply is insufficient.

    3. update all hardware drivers.

    4. load Win - XP, SP2, and SP3... or just go to SP1 SP3? (comments, please)

    5 install Internet Explorer 8... or IE-9? (comments, please).

    6. use of Win - XP SP3 and security center firewall... or install (?) for a protection antivirus and antispyware... suggestions sincerely appreciated.

    7 install MS Office 2007 Pro (unused software, gift).

    My dilemma... What is the sequence own/recommended to perform all these steps...

    A / B / C / D? and 1-2-3-4-5-6-7?

    Remember that we do not have money for a new computer, but I don't have the time and (I think) the ability to perform the steps.

    Your Service Pack 3 CD contains the SP3 .exe Setup file, so you don't need to download what you fortunately already.

    If you need to download this file, it would have been safer to do using another PC. But since you have it, don't you worry in this regard. :-)

  • Acer Aspire 5520 (WIN XP Pro) needs updated drivers

    OS Vista on my Aspire 5520 had many files damaged as well as the recovery disc. I couldn't find my original disk so I decided to install Win XP Pro I had my original disc of one of my other computer that got fried. Installation goes very smoth but, when finished, I checked the Device Manager and fould 8 element listed under other devices.

    2 base system device

    Coprocessor

    2 Ethernet controllers

    PCI device

    SM Bus controller

    Video controller VGA compatible

    Impossible of course to access the Internet with the Aspire. I have another computer I could download the need for pilots to a Flash drive, if I could find where to get them. This problem is I woke up on 5 different projects I need to finish by Friday.  A working Solution would be greatly appreciated. First time having this problem in more than 40 years because I always make backups of everything but this one I can't find work on computers.

    All the XP drivers are available for the 5520 from the Acer support site.

    Click on "Drivers and manuals", type "Aspire 5520" (without the quotes) in the box. "" Then, select "Windows XP 32-bit" from the drop-down Opertating system.

    I bought a Win 7, Win 7 Pro upgrade online from Microsoft. Computer is sick... "Run" Regedit ", Windows Media player does not work... and more failures. I have 4 disks, each are 1 t, tried to install Win 7 and install told me that I didn't have enough room (2 of the 4 drives are empty).

    All I really want to do is Repair Windows 7 Pro. How can I get a Windows 7 Pro disc? or y at - it another way for me to fix it?

  • New update iOS 9.3.4 - no sound. Help

    I downloaded the new update IOS this morning - everything went well.

    Since then when I receive SMS, or email, or when I try to watch videos - no sound.

    I checked all the settings and they seem to be the same as before.

    When someone calls me, the phone rings as usual, but when I answer, no sound can be heard.

    Ring tone settings, the same thing happens again when I test - no sound, yet its on the ringtone.

    So confused.

    • You can also use the HP connection manager to help you get the job done.

    Here is the Connection Manager software.  Download and install it.  Your computer already has the software, it's going to tell if the package will install...

  • Unknow new device after the bios update and to install win 7 pro to the T400

    Hi all!

    My laptop: T400 2767-2JU. After the most recent update of the bios version (3.09) and own to install all the drivers in the Lenovo Site, I found an unknown device: Simple PCI communications controller. I don't think it's Thinkpad Modem, because, before updating the bios, the system does not have it.

    I've seen it suggested that this (lists of mine such as serial Port PCI) device is Intel AMT / series on local network service.  Not useful for users and some utilities normally hides.

  • In the new PC's SSD for Win 7 Pro & progs, data disk, etc. are installed Tbird on SSD & config email folders on the HARD drive to the activity of writing/deletion rduce? If yes how?

    SSD is MX100 Crucial @256 GB with 1 TB on Athlon X 4 760 K PC HARD drive.

    You could install Thunderbird where you want, but it will place a file in your AppData folder.

    I suggest you only install Thunderbird. It will install by default in your default programs folder. Now learn more about Thunderbird profile and when you feel comfortable with it, copy your profile on your SSD and configure profiles.ini find in its new place.

    You can edit profiles.ini to hand, or you can use the Thunderbird Profile Manager to make the changes.

    They came with Windows 7 Pro installed and a «license for Windows 8.1 Pro»

    I expected there would be a few instructions on how to upgrade 7 Pro to Pro 8.1, or with the PC or online, but so far I have not found anything. Is my only option to do a full install from the DVD? The warnings, I need to know?

    No, you can upgrade.  Put in the disc and choose the upgrade path (not customized) to do an upgrade of Windows 8.  You can do a clean install of Windows 8 on top of Windows 7, but you don't have to.  You can consider running Windows 8 analysis tool to find out if you will need additional drivers after installation or if your installed software may or may not have known problems with it.

    I doubt the processor AMD A8 - 3870 AD3870WNGXBOXCPU K work in your system. It doesn't seem to be a BIOS update which adds support for this processor. Stick with the A8-3850 and you should have no problem.

  • New-VM cmdlet always deploys "Thin-provisioned" VMs - need help

    Hi all

    I am at a total loss on this and spent several days trying to figure out what's wrong.  I'm deploying a new virtual machine from a template using PowerCLI version 5.1 Release 1.  The model is thin-set as all our models are, but when you specify my "New - VM" command, the resulting virtual machine always deploys as thin-provisioned even if I specify "thick".  Here is the command I use:

    PowerCLI C:\ > New-VM-model $templatename - $datastoreClustername - DiskStorageFormat EagerZeroedThick - $hostname - VMHost Datastore name $newVMname - location $foldername

    The above command returns the following error that 'EagerZeroedThick' is not a valid for the parameter - DiskStorageFormat option (although I see it clearly is done by "Get-Help-detailed New - VM")...:

    New - VM: 20/02/2014 12:09:18 new - the specified invalid VM storage format. Valid values are "Thin" and "thick".

    I have Google had the devil on this issue and did not happen to something that helps me...  I tried all the combinations of parameters, and the parameter order hoping that would be the thing without result.  As I said, I am at a complete loss and hope someone here can point me in the right direction.

    Sum, my 2 questions are:

    1. Why is EagerZeroedThick not considered as a valid option for the setting -DiskStorageFormat even if "Get-Help-detailed New - VM" clearly states that it is?  (I've seen a lot of example online of people using this option as well)
    2. Why the new virtual machine being deployed as a thin-put in service of the virtual machine, even if I specify thick for the setting -DiskStorageFormat of New - VM?

    It is a 1 vCenter/vSphere 5.1 update environment.

    I finally received a response from the Vmware Support on this topic and thought I'd share it for anyone else running in this issue:

    VMware support:

    "I confirmed and discovered that it is a bug that is already running of our public relations team that suits him.

    And confirmed that this will be fixed in the next major release of VMware CLI power.

    And now, there is no ETA for it but I think would it as well as ESXi 5.5 U1 version but I can't confirm it. »

    Set up a pc with Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 which was preinstalled.  Got to get all the reviews & (55) installed successfully, with the exception of security update for Windows Vista (KB951376) she didn't.   Error details: Code 80004004.

    Any help on how to install this update with success would be greatly appreciated

    I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit service pack 2 and I'm unable to install the updates, this is the case since December 2011.  I received the error code 80096001. I tried to run the Fix - It, but it does nothing.  Help, please!  Also, I can't turn on the firewall.  I scanned for malware with Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and none is found.

    Thank you, but who has not helped either, so I finally had to use Recovery Manager to wipe the drive and reinstall Vista again. So far so good.

    3. Select your work rate (i.e., 25 fps) (instead of the file frame rate)
