newbie question: adding existing virtual computer hard drive problem

I'm under esxi, 5.0.  I've created a 1 TB LUN in my san using unisphere.  I see the data store in vsphere.  I tried to add it as another drive on my windows 2003 server.  He would drive G.  but it never shows in "disk Management".  I've done it before on my 2008 servers.  not sure why its not showing in 2003.

Thank you

Hello and welcome to the communities.

You add it as a virtual disk or a RDM?

Virtual machine properties reflect the drive being there?

Rescan you the storage in Windows, after adding?

    Here are two possibilities.

The first is on their site at http://www.fixcleaner.com/support.php#faq_sales and has the following (note that it says to close the application and the service):

"Uninstall FixCleaner is easily.» The first thing you need to do is to close the program. If the application is open, click on the X in the upper right to close. Then you close the service. Check the tray at the bottom of the screen and find the icon FixCleaner. Right click, and you will see an option to close the application.

Once the application has been completely closed, Open the Add/Remove Programs dialog box in Control Panel. From there, you can simply opt to uninstall FixCleaner, a process that should take less than one minute. "

  • Try to format and do a clean install of Windows Vista on an old my computer HARD drive at home to be placed in a new Tower. The installation does not start.

Try to format and do a clean install of Vitsa on an old my computer HARD drive at home to be placed in a new Tower. DVD starts up fine and then goes into an endless loop of the repair system that continues to check the c: / drive to find errors. Why is the installation does not start? I know that the folder c: / drive has Vista OS on it from my old compuetr. I want to wipe off immediately and start cleaning up.

original title: try to install clean vista

You must set your BIOS to start on the DVD from the beginning to the top.

You have a good DVD of Vista (OEM/upgrade or full version) and NOT only a recovery disk provided by the manufacturer of the PC (or you burn you).

For a DVD upgrade, follow the method here and make sure you format your HARD drive thanks to the tools of "advanced install" on the DVD.

If you have a full version of Vista rather than a version upgrade then just do the first part of the above procedure.

  • Alternative to the reset by Satellite A660 for potential HARD drive problem

In the last week or two, I got a few blue screens, saying he was driving demand, and that windows must be shut down to avoid damage my computer.

I have just restart and continue working.
The last time it happened, I had repeatedly "initialization failed" and it says hdd, SDS, fdd. If I pressed the power button until I didn't see no signs of activity, then started. Things went well. I called Toshiba support and they recommended that I go home and save my files before continuing. It took hours selectively to clean, sort the previous backups, and a small footprint of the backup system.

When I called Toshiba once again, they recommended a "takeover", which is restoring the factory settings. It puts me in the stone age. I have to go through a never-ending process of the upgrade to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, install and reconfigure all the applications and environments/configurations, etc. It will essentially take on holiday, if not more. I'll also have to get another computer (maybe a netbook) to stay in touch while I restart my laptop. It's barely more than a year.

Is there a diagnosis I can do to determine the probability that there is a hard drive problem? Support for Toshiba said that is the surest way, because it provides a diagnostic F10 for the hard disk code, and it also pushes the bad sectors at the end of the disc (logically, I suppose, since you can't physically move a fault).

    > About Hitachi DFT, is it important that my HARD drive is Toshiba mk6465gsx? This is what is displayed "Hard drives" in the Device Manager.

It s no matter what HARD drive manufacturer, it is the Drive Fitness Test is able to scan all hard drives to find errors.

    > Also, http://www.hitachigst.com/support/downloads/#DFTshows links to create boot disks, but I was wondering if I could create a bootable instead.

Not sure if this is possible if there is that one option to create a startup disk, and then a flash stick does not work. But of course you can try this out.

    > This laptop does not come with a floppy drive, and I still create coasters trying to burn discs.
You don't need the floppy drive, the tool must create a disk bootable (CD)

    > I guess that the same question can be asked on Memtest86. Another issue is the relevance of Memtest86 for my system. My c drive has a "Program Files" folder, but also a "Program Files (x 86)" folder for 32-bit applications. Memtest86 is for the x 86 architecture. I don't know if my 64-bit Windows 7 involves a non - x 86 architecture.

I guess that Memtest86 should also work on Win 7 64 bit systems. But also the MemTest 4.20 is 64-bit capable

    Hello

It sounds a bit like a HARD drive problem.
I recommend checking out the HARD drive using a free tool called Drive Fitness Test
This free tool allows you to get more details on the State of the HARD drive and maybe some error would be detected which would mean that HARD drive failures and disk HARD must be replaced.

  • I want to clone my original equipment existing 500 GB HARD drive to a new 1 TB HARD drive replacement. How?

    G ' Day,.

I'm getting too big for my old 500 GB HARD drive, so I bought a new 1 TB HARD drive.

Now I have all of the rescue disks that I made when I first got my laptop Compaq Presario CQ57-105TU . I could use them & fresh install all software & original OS, but then I have to start from scratch and re-install all the software I have installed, in addition to redo all adjustments & changes I made to the Windows 7 operating system since the first day - a year ago.

Not really how I want to spend the next week or two around.

I would like to clone the orig 500 GB HDD & all of its content to a new 1 TB of HARD drive.

Sounds like where I want to go, but for 1 small question. I heard that if I just I'll have about 500 GB of space available new but I was also told that I will not be able to create new partitions of disk on the new HARD drive because of any existing partitions on the original HARD disk are created.

    1. is this true?

    2. in the case, where can I find a failsafe procedure to accomplish the clone, & then create 2 new partitions to cover the free space on the new drive.

    3. If so, is there a work around? If there is what is the procedure (plse give me cramps of brain with the jargon of techno... tnx)

Some additional information that might be important.

At the present time, my HARD drive has this configuration:

Now that (Q) Local drive is diferent.  It shows 0 bytes available & 0 bytes used, & I don't have access to it.

Computer of my wife... another laptop CQ62 model... also has the same drive,

but hers is labeled as Microsoft Office 2010 Starter... as 0 bytes available & used - also no access, & as below, not showing is not in Dmgt.

This drive does not appear in my Configuration of MANAGEMENT OF RECORDS : http://i.imgur.com/r4LPrDa.jpg

Him early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese

    OK...'s done it!

I used my CLONING HDD DOCKING STATION friends exactly like this, but he bought from a different seller 2 years ago.

All I did was take my 500 GB drive original & placed in A slot (the front slot - Master) & I placed the new Toshiba 1 TB disk in slot B (the second slot behind Slot A... Middle - Slave). I turned the power on the box. I waited until readers spun & were ready, & I don't have a press the red button on the box...

25% light started to blink & cloning began...

About 40 minutes later 50% light began to Flash & the 25% brightness has remained stable.

This means that 25%of the process has been done, & he went to 50%. .

This sequence was continued until finally all the lights were on fixed (25% to 100%) which means that the clone was complete.

I think it took about 2 hours and 15 minutes to clone completely.

I closed the box power off. Then, I removed the two discs.

I installed the new drive in the laptop carefully, & reinserted the battery, & I plugged power/charger/adapter sector of the laptop.

Then, I ran into my fingers & press work / laptop computer shutdown.

A few seconds my laptop has been as always to initialize.  I just had to check to make sure that I have installed the new drive... & Yes the one on the desk was the original, no doubt which means that my laptop startup disk was indeed the new drive I cloned just to.

My laptop is started without fault!  without a hitch. Just as he always had.

I used my computer management Administrative tool - disk management & made a simple volume for the 450 + GB of free space, affecting the next letter available player - in my car (F) case & I named it so.

Everything worked perfectly, I can read & write on the new partition/volume. As I mentioned previously, I probably won't be able to start from scratch, but my drive (C), but it's fine for me.

    So, what have I learned?

Well, first of all, my Compaq Presario CQ57-105TU can go to 1 TB of HARD drive without modification.

Using the cloning method, I did no doubt saved full at least 1 weeks of resettlement work if I selected the new installation method using backup/rescue disks when the computer was first, I created started way back when.

Outside the 2 + hours time, it took to clone the drive, 15 +/-minutes initially to remove & reinstall the drive, & the time it took to assign the new free space a drive letter (every 5-10 minutes) the procedure was clearly simple cut, I know could have been done differently, but not as simply as the method I chose.

Pepe, thank you much for the time you spent researching my issues & responding to my message.

I'm so glad all your fears & roadblocks have been made not, & in the end, it was possible to accomplish the task against our initial concerns - count in a very loose way with the greatest ease.

Here are some pictures of the Station of Clone (the box) exactly like the one I used:

    Congratulations to all,

You can use dynamic disks Windows (convert only the second disc), and then add the second partition.

But I'd rather not use a dynamic disk.

Or you can use diskpart and make that extend your volume.

Quick and easy, but Microsoft does not support the diskpart.

Or use Partition Magic or similar tools.

Or use Convert from VMware to create a new virtual machine with different size disks.

  • Question of replacement for the hard drive MacBook Pro Late 2008

    Hello

My MBP HD headed to the exit so I'll take the plunge and get a replacement SSD to install it.  Being not too tech savvie I'm trying to cover all the bases before starting the replacement so I think I'm OK to get to the old and a new one outside.

I read that a clean install of Mac OS X is recommended.  The plan is to install the new SSD and connect the old HD the MBP for a speaker for the migration of files once the SSD has been formatted and installed operating system.  One of my questions is what OS can / should I install in the first place on the new SSD.  I have the Leopard installation disc that came with the MBP, I also have a Snow Leopard install disc I bought (this is the version 10.6.3).  Start with the Snow Leopard disc or do I have to install Leopard first?  I would get the new OS SSD up to version I'm currently on (10.7.5).

My other question is around RAM.  As part of the upgrade, I plan to replace and max of RAM, I've seen is now 8 GB between the two slots.  I read what the maximum capacity to 8 as part of an update of the firmware.  So the question is: should I do all updates of OS before installing the RAM?  The MBP would difficult treat 8GB if the firmware update is not installed through the different software updates that will be needed once the OS is installed on the SSD?

    Advice/suggestions appreciated.

    See you soon

    J

Replace the RAM can be done at any time. If you have already downloaded the firmware required, it has already updated your material and will not be lost when you replace the hard drive. However, according to Apple, your computer can manage only a 4 GB. I could be missing something...

See here: MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) - technical data sheet

As far as your OS issue, the best thing to do is get the updated software to match the information that you are migrating back (to make sure no problem with migration). The best way to do it, is to download recovery disk wizard and install it on an extra USB key. This allows you to install Lion without having to install Leopard or Snow Leopard first. This will also use disk utility to format the new SSD correctly.

  • ADDING A HARD DRIVE PROBLEM

I have a HP Pavilion, model a1610n desktop, (product # RC652AA-ABA, Serial # CNH6348FK), running Service Pack 3 Windows XP Media Center.

I asked and received good advice from this forum to improve my memory. I now have a question related to the addition of a hard drive, and I'm afraid that my question will be the basis for the level of this forum, but HP wants to load a large male same answer via a phone tech so here goes.

I just install a second disk of 250 GB and it does not appear in my computer when I boot. I was advised at MicroCenter, where I took the reader it might be necessary to format the drive, but I can not format which does not appear to be selected. Is there a reference somewhere that guides one through the process of A) get the computer to recognize the new disk and B) how to format correctly?

Please note that the first time I did anything either inside a computer has been when I opened the case the first time and plugged in some cards memory, fortunately, just working out of the rifle.

My ultimate goal is to use this second internal drive for all my multimedia, audio and video files and my C drive for the operating system and programs. I have to order an external 1 TB drive to back up the whole works outdoors. Any guidance would be appreciated... TT

Is the new hard drive of 250 GB SATA or IDE? Do yourself a favor and stick with a SATA hard drive, if that's what is already installed as your main hard drive. Installation of SATA and IDE drives can be a bit complicated.

Did you go in Control Panel of--> administration--> computer management tools? This is where you should see a new drive listed in RAW format. This is also where you can initialize, partition, and format the drive. . Until you initialize, partition and format the drive it will not see in my computer.

    Kind regards

    .

    Hi Defiant1950,

To add more hard disk space, the simplest method is to attach an external hard drive. If you add an external hard disk, it can't function as your primary hard disk where you install Windows, but you can use it as a secondary disk to store programs and files. Adding an external hard drive is a good way to create plenty of extra space to store the digital photos, videos, music and other files that require a large amount of disk space.

To install an external hard drive, all you have to do is plug it into your computer and connect the power supply cable. Most of these hard disks plug into a USB port, but some connect to a Firewire (also known as IEEE 1394) or external SATA (eSATA) port. For additional instructions, see the documentation that came with your external hard drive. You will also need to install a software that came with the hard drive.

    Hello

I would like to install a new OS (new operating system: Windows 7, old OS: Vista Edition Home Premium) on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A300-237) to repartition the whole HARD drive. I see a non-standard partition, its size is of ~ 1 GB, can I delete this partition?

    What information contains this partition?
I did the recovery previously by Toshiba HDD Recovery disks. Guess when I delete any partition and put in place and installation of the discs, will recover the initial state (including the hidden partition)?

    Thank you

If you want to install your own Win7 version delete all existing partitions and then create a C partition for the installation of the OS.
I guess you write over WinRE partition and it is about 1.5 GB.

I installed Win7 ultimate 32 bit on my Satellite A300 and it works perfectly.
