nfsadmin clientgroup in W2K8

Hello

in Windows Server 2008 R2, I try to use the command:

> nfsadmin server addmembers xx.xx.xx. * MyGroup

(with numerical values in xx) but nfsadmin breaks down: the ' *' does not seem to be allowed.

I'm surprised because this was possible in W2K3.

Any solution in order to avoid getting into dozens of guests that I have in my network?

Thank you for your contributions

ChW

  • W2K8 R2 Licensing Issue: passes during the migration of parallel hardware

We have a very old application server run on W2K8 R2 stand-alone (no advertising).  We decide to migrate the server to new hardware.

Freshly install us the operating system, create user accounts, and install the application on the new hardware.  To play safe, we intend to have a parallel run for 3-4 weeks.

Our question is: will there be a problem when we apply the OS on the new server license?  Where could I find more resources on licensing issues associated with these migrations?

  • MD3000 STORAGE BY ADDING W2K8 CLUSTER

    Scenario:

MD3000 with group a disk / 4 virtual drives assigned to a W2K8 with Cluster Services server.

Available disk space is very low.

Have a RAID 5 + 1 spare in 0-5 bays.  No player in the Bay of 6.

Have no disc in 7-14.  Have 4 replacement disks to use to create the new space.

Have 2 HBA host Ports, was assigned to each server in the cluster.

    Issues related to the:

Would it not be better to:

    A. Add free capacity to the current disk group must be assigned to the virtual disks?

    or

    B. create a new RAID array, as well as a new disk group and assign the disk to the cluster group?

    Unknown:

    1. is the risk of maximum data loss with either of these scenarios?

    2. I guess my configuration would not allow increases the ability to drive in disk management if I add the space available for the existing disk group.  In other words, space present themselves as an extra disk instead of ability at the end of an existing partition.  I would have to create an additional partition to use the space.  I'm looking for a 2nd opinion.  Also, what is the risk of data loss in this scenario?

    3. can I create a new RAID Array, new disk group and new virtual disks (I plan on the creation of only 1 of each) and assign it to the cluster?  Is there any risk of data loss in this scenario?

Which of the above situation is the least risky, and or best practice?

Is there another way that I didn't think?

    Known elements:

I have good back ups and I can plan for the worst case.  We also have facilities of failover if I need to use.  We have already saved our databases and imported in the backup system.  However, if the risk of data loss is high, it will affect my calendar.

Either A or B will work, but on an MD3000, you will need to add additional disks in the diskgroup in disc 1 of GUI at a time.

Option A will take hours to days, depending on disk size, disk speed and production IO. After the diskgroup growth you can expand virtual disks or create new virtual disks. Possible to evolve from a virtual disk is the only command-line (smcli (part of the installation of the storage software manager)).

Option B will be available almost immediately (the virtual disk will be rub, so it will not be a potential maximum return until it's done), but you need to move some of your data on the second drive (do not use dynamic disk to merge 2 drives in a single drive letter, if you are using Windows).

Performance wise a raid 5 is better off limits to 6 or 7 discs. 7200 rpm disks, once you get to 6 or 7 discs and cannot afford to make a separate/2nd raid 5, I would recommend raid 6 instead of raid 5.

  • upgrading from w2k3 to w2k8 R2 domain controller

We are in the process of migration to our ad to 2 k 8 R2 w2k3 domain controllers. Currently, they're physical. We enjoy the virtual road but was looking for the correct process or a step by step. Our virtual machine environment is esx5.1 with the 64-bit hardware. We have 32-bit vm servers running in our environment, but I didn't know how that should proceed with the Active Directory. Any information on how to proceed would be appreciated.

Why not just deploy a new VM W2K8 R2 and run dcpromo on it.  It would be preferable, in my opinion on how to proceed.  Once done, you can take to retire the old DCs and the material.

  • Problem with vCenter 5.1 (W2K8) & SSO without AD

    Hi all

I have problems with my first experiences with vC 5.1 / SSO. I have a virtual machine running W2K8 + DNS but no ads. This is what I want and need. 5.0 had no problem with that, but in 5.1, I can't make everything work.

Installation of SSO, the inventory service and vC (all 5.1), all this hard work and all the Associates services start. However, when I then restart the virtual machine, the vC service does not start, start services very well but no vC. It all started at the session of runtime install, but not after the restart of a virtual machine. By default use SQL Express installation options dbs SSO and vC have been taken.

vpxd.log has a relevant error of:

"Failed while trying to connect to the SSO Admin Server: no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

DNS is all right, forward and backward. Despite the warning (attachment), SSO is happy to install without this AD.

I don't understand why vC post install but then fail to start after reboot.

Surely the vC (Win) 5.1 is not having to be in an AD domain?

    What Miss me?

    Thank you and best regards,

    Mac

I did a few more tests to prove the change the start mode of services could solve the problem.

Today I install VC with simple installation.
After installation completed, before the reboot, take a sanpshot of the virtual machine.
Restart the VC, Vcenter service failed to start as usual.
Then go back to the snapshot before restarting immediately after installation.
And changed the start mode of service,

vCenter single sign on Service - automatic (delayed) automatic
VMware vCenter Inventory Service - automatic Automatic (delayed)
VMware vSphere Profile - Driven Storage Service - from Automatic Automatic (delayed)
VMwareVCMSDS - from Automatic Automatic (delayed)

    then restart VC.
    Services started normally vCenter.

If the sequence to start the service really matters!

  • VCD doesn't show password for w2k8 R2

Hi, someone at - there experience this problem whereby W2k8R2 deployment model with "auto generate the password '; the password is not reflected anywhere makes it impossible to log in to the paralytic.

How to create a w2k8 templlate to activate these features.

    using VCD 1.5 & ESX 4.1U1

    Thanks for any info

The password should be placed on the customization of the guest virtual computer screen when the guestCustomize ends successfully.

If it is not point it to this place - but it has changed (as you know is no longer the password)-you can take a look in VCenter to the virtual machine.

    VCenter:VM - EditSettings - Options - settings of the FVO - see -.

I don't know why she does not appear for you, but once you get in the VM - check the GuestCustomization Windows, log on to the virtual computer and see if it failed or contained errors.

    Hope this gets started you

  • VMware tools on w2k8 r2 standard

Of in vcenter, I right click my w2k8 r2 standard vm and chose to install vmware tools.  It seems to be partially installed on the virtual machine, but it lists only the "Start VM statistics Logging" in the start/programs menu.  I do not see VMware Tools service in 'Services '.  If after trying to install it, nothing seems to happen except that it connect to the VMware Tools CD.  I have autoplay, install it and it works through the installation, but still nothing more that I've seen before.  Is there something special about w2k8 r2 standard machines to get it going?  All my other machines W2k3 and Winxp installed the tools very well.  In the summary list of all VMs in Vcenter only w2k8 machines show that vmtools are not installed.

try to uncheck display it the icon in the taskbar and then say ok, then check the icon and click ok.  This fixed it for me with a Citrix server, I got.

  • W2K8 comments memory displays maxed on Threashhold in ESX 4.0, OS is not well?

    Alreet guys.

I have a little thing resources management going on which I'm stuck now

    with.

We have a new vSphere (6 guests in ESX 4.0 / 1 single vCenter server)

real estate that we use with most W2K8 32 bit Standard servers running

AD/Citrix/file and print/Apps/DB/Vcetner. On some (not all) VC and ESX servers

start reporting that the memory usage of comments is 99/100% constantly which is

alarming all day and all night to our monitoring system. the thing is that there

This report on servers that don't use 30-40 between (in OS)

the percentage of memory allocated at this prompt.

Take a look at the attachment for one of our domain controllers (W2K8) which

does nothing at present. Yet, we have a second DC (from the same template

and configured exactly the same way) that reports correctly. Can anyone

    Help?

I played and tinkered with advanced configuration "mem" and VM MMU

I've read on and if I had solved this problem but the memory

counters to use are simply returned to 100%...

Using Dell Blade M610, 2 X Quad I7 Intel CPU, 32 GB of Ram E5570

  • How to customize a VM-W2K3 with vCenter Server 4.0.0 running in a VM W2K8

    Hello

I am trying to clone and customize a VM-W2K3 with vCenter Server 4.0.0 running in a VM W2K8.

This fails because of "Windows customization resources are found on the server" in my VM W2K8.

Okay, but where exactly do I have to copy the sysprep files, as there is no such directory

    C:\ & lt; ALLUSERSPROFILE & gt; \Application Data\Vmware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep

as described in the ESX and vCenter Server Installation Guide.

Customization of a VM W2K8 is ok, files sysprep (or equivalent) seems to be part of a W2K8 facility.

    Thank you

    Bruno C.

For Server 2008 is the path

    "C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep".

  • Impossible to locate or select network adapters in the virtual network editor - W2K8 host

I am running VMware 2.0.1 on a W2K8 64-bit host (with the windows firewall is disabled for now). VM images are all able to start and use the network bridged the host connection. I can access these images of virtual computer on the network, and even each image virtual machine running on that host computer has access to the public network.

My problem is that I have three network adapters available on the host, but I can't individually select one of them in the virtual network Editor. The "Automatic gateways" checkbox is grayed, outside, tab automatic bypass, and if I try to select an adapter to exclude none appear in the dialog 'Add adapters excluded' that opens. In the virtual network mapping tab VMnet0 host, is set to be filled to an automatically chosen adapter and VMnet1 & 8 are configured to use their default VMware network cards. If I open the selections from drop down menu to one of the network adapter 10 VMnets listed in the virtual network mapping tab host there is no available alternative.

Note: three network cards available on my W2K8 host server, one of them is a fault tolerant team consisting of two individual adapters and two other network cards are not associated. The team of the adapter has a network on our local network connection, but the other two adapters are connected to a private network. The fact that the images of the virtual machine running on that host are available on the network and be able to use the network indicates to me that my VMnet0 connection automatically open is finding and using the adapters together somehow (Luckily, by design?).

I installed VMware 1.X and 2.0 on many host W2K3 servers and never encountered this problem before.

If Win2008 follows a similar to Vista security model, then you must run AS administrator virtual network Editor.  Otherwise, you cannot make changes selections.

  • CF10 on w2k8 32 bit only no COM-access

While testing CF10 before the upgrade of the production system, I met after publication:

When you try to create an object, COM I get the exception 0 x 80040154 - class not registered.

This happens on Windows 2008 (32 bit) after the passage of the CF9 to CF10.

There is no difficulty to access the COM, or with CF9 on w2k8 32 bit with CF10 under Windows 2003 R2 32 bit.

The error message is not appropriate, he comes out with any class for example CDO. Message classes are permanently recorded and are available for example in local scripts.

I read about the problems with the 64 bit OS, but never about 32-bit.

    Any ideas? Thanks for help

The problem seems to be related to the update: updates are supposed to be cumulative, in fact they are not.

The current Version 10.0.0.283922 installed everything works fine. Directly install update 4 or more access the COM of the breaks.

If you install update 2 first followed by other updates, you get up to 10.0.8.283922 and access COM still work.

I hope it helps if someone has the same problem.
