NIC dedicated for each VM VS a single NETWORK card

Hello

Wonder what would be the advantage or disadvantage of having dedicated NIC by VM. Currently I have 11 machines on a Vsphere 4 Update 1 and all the VMs that are 2008R2s windows pass through VMNIC0 in a GB switch port.  So if I lose this port, I loose connections to all VMs 11 and with 11VMs and 1 GBit port, bandwidth would be limited. I dedicated 4 ports on the very important physical switches to 4 virtual machines. I have 8 total NICs in the ESX host.  In this way, 4 virtual machines would not share the same port VMNIC0 and will have its dedicated bandwidth 1 GB each.

Is it a possible practice, recommended?  It offers performance and bandwidth?

Your comments are appreciated!

Jay

If you need the best performance, you can use VMDirectPath and assign a physical NIC dedicated to a virtual machine.

See: VMware VMDirectPath of e/s

But this way, you lose flexibility and VMotion.

If you are using more than one NETWORK card availability for your vSwitches.

If you need also performance use multiple NICs.

  • Will VSA works with single NETWORK card

    Hello

I have a question about the unit of storage in VSphere. As far as my knowledge is concerned, while we initiate the deployment of the VSA Cluster on two or three host scenario, a virtual appliance VSA is installed on each host computer, which automatically creates a HA cluster and creates two standard switches by default. Each VSA appliance has two network cards, one for the front-end server and one for the back-end.

My question is if I have only one physical NETWORK adapter present on my Esxi hosts, VSA will work correctly? I asked this question to a few friends and they me says that it will work and both the front-end server and the back-end NICS will be connected to a single virtual switch with which the physical NETWORK adapter is connected. I've never tested and I do not have an environment who test him too. Anyone of you can test it for me?

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the confusion, the VSA 1.0 does not work with ESXi having only single-port Teddy.

  • NIC dedicated for comments?

I have a windows 2008 server running VMWare server 2.

I have two Windows Home Server invited.

I have 3 Ethernet connections on the server.  I want to dedicate to Windows Home Server guests so that they each have their own card NETWORK and bandwidth.

How can I assign the specifc virtual network adapters to a specific customer?

When you add a network card, I'm must select "Briged, host-only, and Nat" and does not who bridged adapter to use.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Do you see these VMnet virtual network Editor? You use such a VMnet (switch/virtual network) assign a physical network card. After that, you assign a virtual NETWORK adapter to your guest. When you do this, you can choose the VMnet which should be used for this virtual NIC.

When you add a network card, I'm must select "Briged, host-only, and Nat" and does not who bridged adapter to use.

Open is the default connection that is bridged. In the virtual Networkj Editor: it's VMnet0 and it should already be assigned to one of your NIC you can use for the desired person.

The other VMnet can be used by choosing 'Custom', then the VMnet.

  • need for server 2008r2 Pavilion p7-1000 network card driver of (tried win7 drivers N.G.)?

    Hello

I'm trying to install the server 2008r2 on the HP Pavilion p7-1000, has four cores amd 64 bit cpu, 8 GB ram, 1 TB hard drive.   For some reason I can't seem to locate the drivers for the NIC realtek.  Of course, I'm pressed and trying to accomplish something in a single day.  And many other things at the same time.  I never thought that this Server 2008 would have a problem with a common network card.

Someone has a direct link to a kind of driver that works with this?  I tried to go to the realtek, and perhaps I simply downloaded the wrong software.  But what I 'As' on their part, did not work.  I tried a "auto-install" program, but also what I THOUGHT it was the real Server 2008 drivers for the network card.

    Thanks for advice and guidance

Have you tried this one directly from Realtek site?  a 3rd on the list... According to this record in the series, they have 8105E card.

  • How to get 2 virtual NIC works when there is only 1 physical NETWORK card?

    Hello

    Running VM Fusion 2.0

I want to create a Virtualversion of Ubuntu that will have 2 virtual network cards which is both connected to my NIC physical 1

I added the network cards successfully, but when I run ifconfig eth0 only arises

I edited the vmx file by adding the lines below, but without success

    ethernet1. ConnectionType = "custom" ethernet1.vnet = 'vmnet2'

Someone knows how to do this?

    See you soon

    Tom

I guess that you configure additional virtual networks in Fusion by using something like: Advanced Networking Configuration - Tokamak Networking Scripts for VMware Fusion , since vmnet2 does not come configured out of the box with the merger and there is no way in the GUI to do.

I interpret what you're trying to do like the creation of two virtual network cards in a time filled with the same physical NETWORK card in the Mac VM. Can you explain what you are trying to accomplish by doing that? This configuration can cause two interfaces with an IP address on the same subnet, including many UNIX-like (and Windows) nuclei do not take very kindly.

You may also check the Ubuntu network configuration (to ensure that the new NETWORK adapter is enabled and configured).

  • Dedicated for each channel from multiple channels in a single task task disadvantage

    Hello

My current acquisition software (C + c++ / GCC) encapsulates the methods rather clumsy niDAQmx C to interface with the data acquisition equipment in a class that represents a task of acquisition. This way I can create several instances, for example counter input, analog input, analog output, their terminals and the class supports all work low level as ensuring input analog fake internal is started if there are only counter entries such as the sample clock starts, or configure reminders N-sample, etc.

It seems to work very well, and also the time seems to be good, because first of all the tasks on multiple instances of my wrapper. For triggered early, that I use

    DAQmxCfgDigEdgeStartTrig(mTask,mTriggerTerminal.toAscii().constData(),DAQmx_Val_Rising)

    in-house.

Now my real question: what is the advantage of multiple channels, when everything seems to work fine with multiple tasks and only one channel per task? I don't see the disadvantage, it would first classify necessary acquisitions in types (I, ao,...) because several strings in a single task must be of the same type. With my approach I need not care because each channel still gets its own task.

I don't know I'm missing something here. Maybe someone can explain it to me, maybe some limitation of multi-tasking, I have not yet read.

    Hey!

Unless you specified for managing the it (simultaneous sampling) or modular instruments and hardware devices (see link )

You cannot perform two tasks at the same time that access to the analog inputs, for example, because the

ADC is a shared resource that is connected to a multiplexer, and that only one task can work in it at a time given. (see here )

Similar restrictions often apply to other types of operations.

I'm not aware of any performance issues, perhaps a little more memory could be used.

So as long as your hardware supports what you are doing, you should be ok, I think,

and it is only a question of clarity and intelligibility, ease of use and structure.

As you use classes, I'm sure you've heard about encapsulation - so it is a

question of how you want to design your application.

In addition, when you work in LabVIEW, tasks feel more natural to the principle of data flow, because you have a thread for your data acquisition,

and it works very well with our modes of standard design.

So, if it is better for you (and works with the hardware), you can give all the channels its own task.

Hopefully this might clarify some things,

    Kind regards

If you can't get it by sysprep, you can use the VIX plugin for vCO to run a command in the guest OS once it is deployed and under tension.

  • Software exists for the creation of a 'virtual' network card and going to all the traffic on the local network through a proxy server, then by this adapter?

I can access net through LAN and my college requires a proxy for all access to the internet. If you want to use the internet, it is impossible to do not use a proxy. This is a problem for many programs that do not seem to allow you to enter the proxy settings.

any software is to create a 'virtual' network adapter that will pass all traffic network (or any protocol x traffic) through the proxy?

So I have do not need to enter the proxy anywhere... and I have normal internet access.
What I saw is possible with OpenVPN, but it is a vpn service that I need .i just want to use the feature. In OpenVPN I just enter my proxy server in its framework and OpenVPN to connect to a VPN service and routes all traffic to the FAUCET adapter after which I don't need to set the proxy address anywhere... so my idea is how can I use only the last part that is routing all my LAN traffic to a virtual card.

Support the LAN---> proxy---> virtual adapter--->, then software I access the net

That's what I like to do...

Although I am facing this problem on Windows 7, solutions for all operating systems are welcome.

P.S: Proxifier is not my solution to not offer something like this.

    Hello

I'm trying to get this to work of workflow in order to create a virtual machine from a model (or an another VM) and customize (IP address, DNS...). I already did the same thing with my Linux VM and it worked as expected, but with the Windows VM I lose connection with vCenter whenever I run this workflow. "Just before it finished I got this error:" ""the server vCenter Server "link from my server" connection has been lost "

So the result is: the new virtual machine is created, but the IP address of the model/VM frim is what it is cloned.

Any idea what can cause the crash of the mu vSphere client every time I throw the third workflow?

Can someone try this workflow and complete the settings and show me a screenshot so I can know where it wen wrong (certainly the network configuration).

  • External hardrive dedicated for backups or huge 3 teg hardrive

I have two Macs. The two are not up-to-date on the operating system. One is a former PPC-Intel Power Mac G5 (running 10.4.8). This PPC has logic music software from apple and other software, that I like to keep the versions they all. I want to back up the entire hard drive please. Never done and need to know how?

The iMac I see a time machine... .the iMac running 10.6.8 and it seems pretty simple how to backup.

My question contains the questions above for backup but also do I need a hard disk dedicated for each backup of the computer, or can I partition a huge hard drive.

Also, so just save a computer for example do I need a dedicated external hardrive or can I use a space between an external hardrive with enough space for a backup.

I know that this issue contains various aspects of a question and different computers and versions so I appreciate the answers really. Thank you very much!

Every Mac should have at least 1 backup HD dedicated. When it comes to backup, it is wise to also have redundant backups because too backups fail! I have 3 Mac (iMac, Mac Mini & MacBook Air), each has 2 HD attached for redundant backups. Although I know that it is more expensive that you wanted to hear, it gives a pretty good backup level. It would be extremely rare to lose the primary storage and two backups, but I lost the primary and a backup at least 2 times!

In my case, I use Time Machine and SuperDuper as my backup solutions and also to use OWC (www.macsales.com) as my EHD.

  • Problem with: Clone, windows with a single NETWORK adapter

    Hello

I have some bad problems while trying to use the following workflow: 'Clone, windows with a single NETWORK card. I always get the following error message: "task"CloneVM_Task"error: a specified parameter was not correct. "

"Spec.Identity.Password.Value (name of the dynamic Script Module: vim3WaitTaskEnd #20).

So I guess I have a problem with a password but I don't know what password, I give for the input parameter "channel passwork. It is encrypted if the indicator planText partner is false"I do not understand what password I would give here because I do not give any account of domain user.

Is there anyone who has already used this workflow and can give me some advice on how to use it properly?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

If I remember correctly, that's your administrator password local if it has been defined or the new password set if the model is no password defined. But then I did years ago doublecheck Yes.

  • Single NETWORK adapter with 5 IPs

    Hi guys,.

I'm new to ESXI 5.5 and have a question. My server has a single NETWORK card and I got 5 fps by my ISP. I want to run 4 virtual machines on my server. I want one of the IPs to be assigned to the hypervisor and the 4 other IP address to assign to each host.

Is this possible with a single NETWORK card, if so, can someone guide me in the right direction on how to accomplish?

    Thank you!

Unless your service provider restricts the number of MAC addresses on the same switch port (your uplink port), there is nothing special you need to do. Simply assign an IP address to the host as well as each of the virtual machines. That's all.
