NIC goes away on a Windows virtual machine

Someone on my team ran into this problem on the two virtual machines.

1020718 Ko tire

ESX 4.x introduced a new feature called HotPlug. In some deployments cards virtual network may appear as removable devices on the system tray in Windows operating systems. Problems can occur if you confuse this device for one that you can safely remove. This is especially true in the VMware View environments, where there is a constant interaction with the desktop. Do not remove the virtual network adapters in the Windows system tray.
There is a demand for change identified in the KB resolution for our models of windows. I have never seen this before and is reluctant to make changes to the basic models. Does anyone know what specific deployment scenerio causes this anamoly of system tray?

Hello

the Connect feature is not an anomaly, and it occurs not only with specific deployment scenarios. It introduces the possibility of adding hot and hot / deletion of certain devices of harware (such as the network interface cards) and to a virtual machine (if the guest operating system also supports) regardless of the manner in which it was deployed.

An often undesirable side effect is that a user accidentally unplug NIC of the virtual machine by using the tray icon "safely remove hardware...» ».

You can avoid this by setting the advanced VM configuration which is explained in http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1012225option.

Make this change to a virtual computer model will result in all virtual machines deployed from this model to have disabled HotPlug.

It has no negative side effects, so I think only that a certain measure and I would recommend it even.

I hope this helps...

  • Powecli set IP for a Windows virtual machine, IP pool

    Hello

I followed all the steps in this article https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-55/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vsphere.networking.doc%2FGUID-DBF79F52-925A-4D0D-893C-49B911D3AC54.html and I need the following to make it work,

    1. pursuant to article when an IP pool is configured, mapped to a portgroup VM in this network is VAPP options enabled and I put it in the static pool of IP.

    2. so when a virtual machine is on the network adapter in the virtual machine must be assigned an IP address from the IP pool.

    3. but VM NIC adapter gets never assigned with an IP address from the pool and VMware have confirmed this IP pool do not have a capacity to push an IP address to the virtual machine.

I'm looking for a script that can be kept inside the virtual machine and pull an IP address pool option or VAPP machines IP and assign the adapter NIC VM (Windows). Probably via the VMware tools? Let me know any possibility for that?

The use of IP pools is like poking yourself in the eye. It feels better when you stop

If you cannot use DHCP and must use IP pools there are a ton of up front configuration mucking about to make:

    1. Follow the first article you have linked
    2. In the options of vApp for the VM in properties and then create a property for each of the things you want to get the pool of IP (IP, etc.). When to create the entries under type select dynamic property can find the correct entry in the drop-down list then the values come from the IP pool
    3. Set up an auto start task (a scheduled task that starts at the start) in your model of virtual machine to run a script that:
      1. Expect that VMware tools start
      2. Run vmtoolsd to get the values of vApp in the VM in XML format
        1. 'C:\Program VMware Tools\vmtoolsd.exe-' cmd 'info-get guestinfo.ovfEnv '.
      3. Parse the XML file to extract the intellectual property, etc..
      4. Run the OS commands (netsh, wmic, vbScript (wmi) or Powershell (perhaps native, perhaps wmi according to version)) to take the values from the XML file, and then set the operating system options

Outside this configuration he plays poorly as the 'network' in the dynamic property is bound to a group of specific ports. If you try to deploy widely, this means a VM model by group of ports (blech!)

Hope this help to help you started (or persuade you to use DHCP)

  • Losing network connectivity in Windows virtual machines

We have a problem with Windows VM where they lose network connectivity after being inactive for some time.  After you go in vcenter server and log in to the virtual machines, they begin to respond to pings again.  For any reason but after they are inactive for a period of time, they stop responding to pings, which means that you will have to return in vcenter server and log, and then their network connectivity is restored.  I was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem or have any suggestions.

Looks like the virtual Windows machine has an option like

"allow the nic to the power power off in case of inactivity"

    permit.

  • Power MacBook from 2016 for Windows virtual machines?

    Hello

Can anyone with real experience let me know if Spring 2016 up-to-date as MacBook have the ability to run VMware Fusion and a 2 or 4 GB Windows 7 or 10 VMS?

My local Apple store have answers that are different with none of them being honest users of VMware Fusion or IT pros understand my needs to run heavy client VMware and other Windows applications not too demanding.

As a point of reference, my i7 '2011 mi' Air is sufficient. It looks like a new MacBook a faster memory and storage but perhaps not the power of the older i7.

I don't want to waste time and to return a product if it does not work well so all ideas would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

I have the new base model 2016; I got the base model 2015 too, and Windows 10 was OK under VMware.

It depends on what you want to do with your virtual machine.

However, if I were you, I prefer a 'real' basic PC, powered with Teamviewer. It's really easier, this save your battery and life SSD.

  • Recognizing the hardware of a Windows virtual machine hosted on Linux

    Hello

I would like stable windows in a virtual machine running from linux and run my VI labview and make the acquisition from there.  I tried once using Windows XP 32 - bit virtualized on ubuntu 64-bit, with Virtualbox, but windows setup does not recognize my card PCI-MIO-16-4.  Maybe its because I had not installed the linux drivers... I do not know.  Soon I will start using an FPGA 7853R with the PXI-1036 chassis and would prefer if my Windows installation virutalized could see this material.

Anyone who crossed through the stages of the use of materials of a virtual Windows installation?  VirtualBox, Xen, Vmware or whatever...

    Thank you

    -Sidney

    Hello

National Instruments do not support virtual machines, but I'm sure that your PXI will recognize by your system. Max peripheral use ethernet to find devices, so if your network works, you will be able to use it.

  • Blue screen at the start of WinSrv2008r2 recovered from the backup of windows virtual machine image

    Hello

    At first, everything seems fine:

-to create the new virtual machine

-startup disc for instalation of Windows Server 2008 on this VM

-Select "Repair system" and point the backup image file (full backup - made with standard Windows backup tool)

    -system recovered successfully.

But then, when the system restart recovered fresh - start start Windows normally - and suddenly it is blue screen with the error 0x0000007b

IMHO, this first initiated boot of the recovered system trying to twist something in the special part of the disc and he cannot (because it's a virtual disk?)

Is it possible to recover the system windows image file system server to virtual classic?

Thanks in advance for all voice :-)

    Greetings,

    RA

    Welcome to the community,

the error message is related to the controller to start the virtual machine, which is different from the original system, and its drivers are not loaded in Windows. What you try, it is to use the free VMware Converter and run the option "Set up the Machine", which should inject the necessary drivers in the virtual machine. Before doing this, please make sure that the Windows 2008 virtual machine has the default "LSI Logic SAS' controller configured in its settings.

  • Customization of a Windows virtual machine fails - Crush Down vSphere Client

    Hi guys,.

I met a very delicate problem.

I tried to customize the Windows VM I cloned from the model (win2008R2), and I simply run the workflow 'Customize vm' in vCO, I think all the settings I gave should be correct (I tried to manually customize the virtual machine by using these settings, and it worked) and there is also no "naming problem" since I followed the rules here : http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2009315

But once the workflow is started, I saw "customization is underway" in vSphere client, a minute later, this watch:

    Capture.PNG

And then it is reconnected, as if nothing ever happened...

Anyone will throw some lights on it?

    Thank you very much

He proved it to be: it seems that I couldn't customize a vm cloned from a template directly.

I passed the entrance as a virtual machine, the problem disappeared.

Or there could be something wrong with the model gave me, but my solution is deployed this model first as a virtual machine and clone out that vm for customization later.

    Thank you

  • cloning of a windows virtual machine that is in a domain

I cloned a virtual machine that has been joined in a domain and I want to use (the cloned vm) on the same network as its source. Consider if I it sever its domain, the original source vm will too be disjoint.

What should I do or should I do to avoid this situation?

What I would do, that's when the VM is not connected to the network, remove it from the field. (it must of course know in advance a local administrator password). Change the name of the computer.

    And you should be ok.

  • Cannot access Windows Virtual Machine in OSX! Help, please!

Attached is a screenshot of the error I get when I try to open my virtual machine and a screenshot of the error if I try to remove the snapshot through "settings".  I restored an older VM with Time Machine, now I get this error when you try to run the virtual machine.  I tried to uninstall, delete the virtual machine, shut down the computer, reinstall VMware Fusion (which already had my serial number filled in for me) and then back to the VM backed up by Time Machine.  No luck.  Now, instead of a few files missing I want to recover... I can't access my VM at all.  Not good, any help would be appreciated.

No doubt useful to add that I had the idea to uninstall from another thread of subject "fangs" tiled "Lost access to the merger after restoring from Time Machine" maybe it would work if I reinstalled and my serial number has not been filled

in?  Anyone know any more and more stuff inbetween closing

    Uninstall and install?

Well, that was good of you talk and after getting your data from the files just mounting hard copy create a new Virtual Machine from the hard base file and go from there.  Once you are satisfied, you have all of your data, you can get rid of the copy that you made on the external hard drive.  If you have any other questions just post and one of us will try to answer.

    Have a good.

  • PCI express peripheral on the virtual machine Windows on Macintosh?

    Wow, that's a long title...

I was wondering if anyone has tried to use a hardware DAQ PCI - e installed in a (recent) Mac Pro (which has PCI express ports), which runs under Windows in Parallels or VMWare Fusion.

I have customers who hate Windows, love their Macs, cannot use NOR-DAQmx Base and could barely tolerate Windows running as a virtual machine on their Macintosh.

    Hi John,.

Unfortunately, a Windows virtual machine does emule not entirely software low level required to run on a Macintosh DAQmx.

That your customers can do, however, is running Bootcamp to install Windows on their computer, and then they will be able to use DAQmx.

  • Can't access file system host (MAC) shared in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client when wanting to create a VMware image (Windows 7 in Parallels virtual machine running on a MAC) for the option of machine Powered On.

File HOST (Mac) system is currently shared in the Parallels virtual machine and is accessible through Windows Explorer and works correctly in the Virtual Machine environment, however, after installing vCenter Converter application on the Windows virtual machine these shared folders are not accessible from the conversion tool in the selection of the target destination of the file VMware (s). I can't select an existing folder on drive "C:" to write the image so that there is not enough space available for the VMware image and it must be written in a different file system, while the image is being created.

Anyone know a way around it to show the target to write the image on the host (MAC OS) file system or is it a bug?

Thanks for the reply.  It seems that the maps are not displayed if they were created as actions by the hosts.  When I created a mapping directly from Windows, then this mapping appeared and the conversion worked fine.

  • two virtual machines on esxi, vm linux server can ping and ping to the outside, windows can ping but incoming requests timeout

    Hello

I have an ESXI server with two network cards, each connected to separate the subnet in the same Cisco switch.

First interface is in 10.231.5.0/255.255.255.0 and the second is 192.168.118.0/255.255.255.0

Initially, I built a virtual machine with MS Windows 2003 R2 Standard with two network interfaces with static IP addresses on both subnets. 10.231.5.153(Gateway configuré sur cette carte réseau) and 192.168.118.153.  It has also installed vm tools.

Second built vm is Ubuntu 8.10 with two network interfaces and two static IP a linux server in each subnet. This virtual machine has never had no problem contacted subnets one bit and he can go out on all of the subnets that are routable through the switch. Static IP addresses are 10.231.5.152(gateway est configuré sur cette carte réseau) and 192.168.118.152

The Windows virtual machine has always been a bit flaky. Sometimes he would not be able to ping on all interfaces (while the State of the network in Windows showed the incoming and outgoing packets).  Sometimes he could ping another Vm and ESXI management IP but could not ping to the outside on the network 10.231.5.0 or 192.168.118.0. Deactivation and activation of network interfaces seem to make a difference with outgoing network access is enabled. However, if I try to ping back part of the same subnet a machine outside the ESXI Server ping timeout. It's weird as after having activated a deactivation of the network interface, that he even manages to ping subnets a bit far, but pingees machines cannot he ping back. However, these machines have no problem ping to the management of ESXI or Linux VM interface. Restart the machine virtual Windows translates the EPS of no longer being able to ping up to deactivation and activation of cards network again.

I tried to activate the Promiscuous (the Accept value) mode on computer management virtual and vSwitch (vmnic1 and vmnic0 appear in the collection of NETWORK adapters window), but it did make a difference.

Pointers would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Find NIC assigned virtual machine

As I understand the Port ID load balancing, it is that the ESX Server will assign a virtual machine to the specific NIC on the team.  I would like to know how can I know which NIC is assigned to a particular virtual machine.  We work with our guys networking on a question to Ms. NLB and we need to know certain things.  We have already considered at the level of the router/switch arp tables to find out where he is, but I would like to know about the side of ESX.

The method used is currenlty only how to determine what path to network the mach is assigned to.

  • create a dynamic group for all virtual machines

I would like to create separate dynamic groups for all my Windows virtual machines and physical machines of my Windows.  Is it possible to do it via regular expressions?  It is not granular enough to create something like this.  We have vROps that collects a large number of settings of virtual machines as its CPU usage, use of memory and use of the network to name a few.  If I install Hyperic on those virtual machines it will collect the same measures and I'll have to duplicate the data in vROps.  So I would like to have a separate profiles for Win32, CPU, physical disk on file server, etc., for virtual machines and physical machines.  I was going to try using dynamic groups, but I don't think that Hyperic will be able to handle this.  If you have any suggestions or knowledge on this operation through dynamic groups that would be great.

    Thank you.

In UI Hyperic access the platform in platform type choose Win32 and press the green icon. You will see all the windows.

Now select all platforms and press the 'Group' button > add to the new group

    Good luck
