Powecli set IP for a Windows virtual machine, IP pool

Hello

I followed all the steps in this article https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-55/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vsphere.networking.doc%2FGUID-DBF79F52-925A-4D0D-893C-49B911D3AC54.html and I need the following to make it work,

1. pursuant to article when an IP pool is configured, mapped to a portgroup VM in this network is VAPP options enabled and I put it in the static pool of IP.

2. so when a virtual machine is on the network adapter in the virtual machine must be assigned an IP address from the IP pool.

3. but VM NIC adapter gets never assigned with an IP address from the pool and VMware have confirmed this IP pool do not have a capacity to push an IP address to the virtual machine.

I'm looking for a script that can be kept inside the virtual machine and pull an IP address pool option or VAPP machines IP and assign the adapter NIC VM (Windows). Probably via the VMware tools? Let me know any possibility for that?

The use of IP pools is like poking yourself in the eye. It feels better when you stop

If you cannot use DHCP and must use IP pools there are a ton of up front configuration mucking about to make:

  1. Follow the first article you have linked
  2. In the options of vApp for the VM in properties and then create a property for each of the things you want to get the pool of IP (IP, etc.). When to create the entries under type select dynamic property can find the correct entry in the drop-down list then the values come from the IP pool
  3. Set up an auto start task (a scheduled task that starts at the start) in your model of virtual machine to run a script that:
    1. Expect that VMware tools start
    2. Run vmtoolsd to get the values of vApp in the VM in XML format
      1. 'C:\Program VMware Tools\vmtoolsd.exe-' cmd 'info-get guestinfo.ovfEnv '.
    3. Parse the XML file to extract the intellectual property, etc..
    4. Run the OS commands (netsh, wmic, vbScript (wmi) or Powershell (perhaps native, perhaps wmi according to version)) to take the values from the XML file, and then set the operating system options

Outside this configuration he plays poorly as the 'network' in the dynamic property is bound to a group of specific ports. If you try to deploy widely, this means a VM model by group of ports (blech!)

Hope this help to help you started (or persuade you to use DHCP)

  • Change the default options for a NEW virtual machine in ESXI 5.1

    Hello

I am looking for a solution change the 'default' options for a new virtual machine created in ESXI 5.1

I want to have parameters such as 'cpu/memory HOT-add' default to enabled instead of disabled.

There may be more options to change to a new virtual machine.

All those who have an option to change the 'default' options for new virtual machines?

    THX

You can change the/etc/vmware/config of vSphere host file and add the lines mem.hotadd = 'TRUE' and vcpu.hotadd = 'TRUE '.
The settings then apply to any VM on this host when virtual machines are turned on...

I just tried this on a 5.1 ESXi host and it seems to work perfectly...

  • Activate the CBT for Hyper-V virtual machines running in Windows Server 2016

  • 10-key Windows product exactly the same for all my virtual machines?

I have a dozen of VMS I thought I should go to WIN10 and then continue to use as WIN7/WIN8 until I have enough time to deal with possible issues. I have the latest version of everything (less than a week old 12.x).

Problem is, I get the same product key for machines that are totally different (all on the same host, however). Product ID Windows (!) stands, MAC is different, is different from the amount of memory, 32/64-bit is different... I even created a new virtual machine from scratch with a product key, I have never really used before... and the product key for WIN10 is the same as for everything else. HUH?

Yes, I thought that my method to get the product key is bad, but when a virtual machine is created from scratch, there is no way that vm could 'know' anything a VM I just deleted.

I thought it might be I use NAT for all virtual machines and it would affect anything, but as they have different MAC that would be foolish. So I would not be able to update one of my basic machinery is .

Summer try a lot of things during this time to understand, like making a copy, by selecting "I copied it" but once I went to the deepest that create a new virtual machine and always get the same product key I have to say I am confused.

Maybe I do not understand how Microsoft does these days. Maybe a different product id and a different product key = another activation and I would have no problem. I want to test it with 10 + vm that could start the Microsoft Genuine tests to fail, and all of a sudden I have to rebuild my entire network or sit in the management of queues for a week? Not really.

If I understand Windows 10 facilities that are updated to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 the activaion is a digital entitlement which is linked to a unique material ID online in the Windows store. The generic product key is only for compatibility with things that do not include digital rights.

Wwhat you see with the same generic product key in each installation is normal behavior for upgrades of Windows 10.

  • How to set up the generic dashboard for the specified virtual machines

I have two question about "generic dashboard":

    1. I use the tag to classify certain virtual machines by role QA, DEV or PRD. If I select "Kind of resources", and then select all VM under a label, window "metrics selector" will be watch only "vCenter generated Operation Manager", it does not show metric VM. How can I see it?

    2. If I select the 'Resources' mode, then I'll be able to see the VM metrics on the window "metrics selector", but I must key in each VM name "Label to the area", it takes a lot of time if I have a lot of VM, is there no matter what symbol I can use to match this field with name column "resource"?

Mode 'Resources like' or 'Resource', both ok for me, I want to just install a widget to display using the specified CPU VM real fast.

    Any information is appreciated!

You will see that vC generated Ops metric because you are looking at the tag, which is a resourcekind. This switch of resources is "not" a filter label, these are the actual resources. If you want to see all the virtual machines, select the resourcekind 'virtual machine '.

Generic dashboard is rarely used to show - all - kinds of resources, it is generally used for static selection for specific purposes. If you want to display all types of a resource type and apply a tag filter, you can select a different widget to display this information.

There is no symbols that can act as wildcards, as you suggest. When you are 'kind of resources' mode, you need not fill out a label for the box.

  • Power MacBook from 2016 for Windows virtual machines?

    Hello

Can anyone with real experience let me know if Spring 2016 up-to-date as MacBook have the ability to run VMware Fusion and a 2 or 4 GB Windows 7 or 10 VMS?

My local Apple store have answers that are different with none of them being honest users of VMware Fusion or IT pros understand my needs to run heavy client VMware and other Windows applications not too demanding.

As a point of reference, my i7 '2011 mi' Air is sufficient. It looks like a new MacBook a faster memory and storage but perhaps not the power of the older i7.

I don't want to waste time and to return a product if it does not work well so all ideas would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

I have the new base model 2016; I got the base model 2015 too, and Windows 10 was OK under VMware.

It depends on what you want to do with your virtual machine.

However, if I were you, I prefer a 'real' basic PC, powered with Teamviewer. It's really easier, this save your battery and life SSD.

  • Blue screen at the start of WinSrv2008r2 recovered from the backup of windows virtual machine image

    Hello

    At first, everything seems fine:

-to create the new virtual machine

-startup disc for instalation of Windows Server 2008 on this VM

-Select "Repair system" and point the backup image file (full backup - made with standard Windows backup tool)

    -system recovered successfully.

But then, when the system restart recovered fresh - start start Windows normally - and suddenly it is blue screen with the error 0x0000007b

IMHO, this first initiated boot of the recovered system trying to twist something in the special part of the disc and he cannot (because it's a virtual disk?)

Is it possible to recover the system windows image file system server to virtual classic?

Thanks in advance for all voice :-)

    Greetings,

    RA

    Welcome to the community,

the error message is related to the controller to start the virtual machine, which is different from the original system, and its drivers are not loaded in Windows. What you try, it is to use the free VMware Converter and run the option "Set up the Machine", which should inject the necessary drivers in the virtual machine. Before doing this, please make sure that the Windows 2008 virtual machine has the default "LSI Logic SAS' controller configured in its settings.

  • NIC goes away on a Windows virtual machine

Someone on my team ran into this problem on the two virtual machines.

    1020718 Ko tire

ESX 4.x introduced a new feature called HotPlug. In some deployments cards virtual network may appear as removable devices on the system tray in Windows operating systems. Problems can occur if you confuse this device for one that you can safely remove. This is especially true in the VMware View environments, where there is a constant interaction with the desktop. Do not remove the virtual network adapters in the Windows system tray.
There is a demand for change identified in the KB resolution for our models of windows. I have never seen this before and is reluctant to make changes to the basic models. Does anyone know what specific deployment scenerio causes this anamoly of system tray?

    Hello

the Connect feature is not an anomaly, and it occurs not only with specific deployment scenarios. It introduces the possibility of adding hot and hot / deletion of certain devices of harware (such as the network interface cards) and to a virtual machine (if the guest operating system also supports) regardless of the manner in which it was deployed.

An often undesirable side effect is that a user accidentally unplug NIC of the virtual machine by using the tray icon "safely remove hardware...» ».

You can avoid this by setting the advanced VM configuration which is explained in http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1012225option.

Make this change to a virtual computer model will result in all virtual machines deployed from this model to have disabled HotPlug.

It has no negative side effects, so I think only that a certain measure and I would recommend it even.

    I hope this helps...

  • Second data store for the shared virtual machine

IM thinking about to migrate my existing VMWare Server 2.x to VMWare Workstation 8.

My server is a machine selfbuild W2k8 with Core i7, 24 GB of ram, an SSD for the OS and two 500 GB HDDs. Due to performance issues an VM is placed on a separate HARD disk. I want to keep the configuration like this.

At the time where I'm using a trial version of WS8 and may not know how to set up a second datastore for shared virtual machines on a second hard drive. Is this possible at all? Or y at - it an alternative to solve this problem? Creation of a RAID0, isn't my favorite option.

    Thanks for the reply.

It is not implemented by using a second data store for shared virtual computers.

    Workaround solution:
Suppose you have the original data store C:\vms and a second D:\vms

then create a junction for each directory in D:\vms like that

    C:\vms\VM1 D:\vms\VM1 junction.exe

    C:\vms\VM2 D:\vms\VM2 junction.exe
    ....

then the vmx files from doubleclick in C:\vms\VM1 and configure the virtual machine to share.

On Windows 7, use mklink.exe instead
    On Linux hosts use ln

  • This Win7 on Amazon works for a new virtual machine?

    Hi all

I would get a virtual machine running Windows 7 (on El Capitan).  What is the right type of product/OS that I can use?

http://www.Amazon.com/GP/product/B00H09BB16/ (it says "for System Builders"(?))

(Ideally, I would like to clone the virtual machine and install the clone Windows 10 - via the free update of Microsoft - I have two Win7 & Win10 VMs (even if I can't run both at the same time) I saw 10 Windows and VMware Fusion - mikeroySoft.com so it seems that it should be possible.)  Any comments?)

    TIA,

    -Joel

Quite possible. "For system builders' means simply that it is an OEM copy, so that he might have a 1-installation limitation, and it comes in a bag rather than a nice retail box.

If you use the Fusion Pro, you can use the Clone function to create your VM Win10 based on the Win7 installation and to update independently.

Do not know what is happening in the State of activation Win7 tho, I'll be honest.  I did it with snapshots and it seems to be okay, but I don't know if he'll be correct after July when they start to charge for updates Win10.

And thanks for checking out my blog =)

  • Customization of a Windows virtual machine fails - Crush Down vSphere Client

    Hi guys,.

I met a very delicate problem.

I tried to customize the Windows VM I cloned from the model (win2008R2), and I simply run the workflow 'Customize vm' in vCO, I think all the settings I gave should be correct (I tried to manually customize the virtual machine by using these settings, and it worked) and there is also no "naming problem" since I followed the rules here : http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2009315

But once the workflow is started, I saw "customization is underway" in vSphere client, a minute later, this watch:

    Capture.PNG

And then it is reconnected, as if nothing ever happened...

Anyone will throw some lights on it?

    Thank you very much

He proved it to be: it seems that I couldn't customize a vm cloned from a template directly.

I passed the entrance as a virtual machine, the problem disappeared.

Or there could be something wrong with the model gave me, but my solution is deployed this model first as a virtual machine and clone out that vm for customization later.

    Thank you

  • Losing network connectivity in Windows virtual machines

We have a problem with Windows VM where they lose network connectivity after being inactive for some time.  After you go in vcenter server and log in to the virtual machines, they begin to respond to pings again.  For any reason but after they are inactive for a period of time, they stop responding to pings, which means that you will have to return in vcenter server and log, and then their network connectivity is restored.  I was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem or have any suggestions.

Looks like the virtual Windows machine has an option like

"allow the nic to the power power off in case of inactivity"

    permit.

    Check the energy saving options
