  The latest Realtek audio driver for the Inspiron with Windows 10 3542 is this one. Follow the instructions under "Installation Instructions". Let me know if installing it does not solve the issue.

  You can see all the drivers for Dell just introduced for your model in the page html Inspiron 3542. In the column 'Operating system', which are WT is for Windows 10. Those marked with a WB are for Windows 8.1. Those for XP, Vista and Win7 is clearly identified as such.

  There was a recent update of Windows that causes havoc widespread with audio. I suggest you try the solutions for this first before trying other things. Here are the 2 solutions the members of the forum have reported so far.

  I have Inspiron 1420 Vista 32 of my brother as a gift. He had before and said he had sound from the moment he bought, but later (he doesn't remember when) the sound just disappeared. However, I can hear everything if I connect my headphone via jacks-audio connectors. I reinstalled the drivers for the "drivers and utilities" DVD. Same result. I downloaded the two drivers from the download page of Dell (R157031 and R167846) and tried one by one. Same thing. I ran diagnostic test (F12 >... > system > Custom > Audio Analog test and can hear the sound on the speakers.) I tried to remove the driver, and then restart the computer, so Vista can catch the new material and solve the problem, but after that the new hardware has been detected, Windows driver installed, the result is the same. I checked if the speakers are cut and they were not. I checked the control panel > sounds and saw 2 options on the digital playback, and speakers/headphones (with a green check mark) output device. Tried all the options, but still can't hear anything through speakers, but can through the headphones.

  Guys, before I will let fall and broke it laptop, help. Please, I beg you. I'm sure the solution is close, just need advice.

  I don't know about 1420. The 1520 has a taken audio daughterboard here, Reference Dell: RT882.

  It says Vostro 1500, which is the same as the Inspiron 1520. There is a phone number you can call (1-800-357-3355) to see if it is also for the 1420.

  After that I gave up on them, I put up any piece of aluminum foil, touch my problematic jack and then assemble everything back. And VOILA! Everything is fine. I have a sound input of the internal speaker, I have a jack for headphones, a disabled jack and a microphone jack. TADA!

  Hi, I recently bought a dell inspiron one 2330 and some of my blu - ray high-fidelity discs do not work very well at all. :(un peu déçu car c'était la principale raison que je l'ai acheté.)

  Which seems to indicate a problem with your video card. The cooling works may not properly. I would contact Dell on the replacement of it. This may explain the poor video performance.

Audio keeps switching from left to right and sometimes works only on one side. Initially, I thought that it was a problem with my headphones but I tried with several headphones and still I have experienced the same problem. But the speakers of the laptop works very well. Could this be a problem with the audio port? Can someone help me on this.

  Hello, Daniel. How to determine who must pass the native Windows audio driver Realtek audio driver. If you don't have the driver from Realtek, you can get it from the Inspiron 3521 support page.
