No lock is for sites that need protection of codes for connection etc. Does? If this is not the case, how do I know that my details are safe?

In the Explorer, a padlock appears to tell you that the information you submit is being encrypted and are not accessible by others - for example, if you log in to internet banking or go to a page to make payments online etc. Firefox offers protection under these circumstances and, if so, how.

A lock indicates that the connection from your computer to another computer is protected by encryption. A lock does not mean that you are connected to the computer, you must check that you (control site identity). In Internet Explorer, you can go to the identity check by clicking on the padlock symbol. In Firefox, you can click the identity of the site to the identity check and also to see the padlock. If you do the same thing, but in a different order. The add-on locks only adds an extra lock, it does not increase security.
