Non-root user cannot start Apache on port 443

Today I have tried to get SSL works for my Oracle Applications 11i (11.5.10.2) installation and I have a little problem just hit. I followed all the documentation of Oracle that I met, who asked me to create a new (non-root) user to have the level of database and applications layer. I also followed the instructions for configuring SSL ([Doc 123718.1| https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:6976756808231635106:p14_database_id, p14_docid, p14_show_header, p14_show_help, p14_black_frame, p14_font:NOT, 123718.1, 1, 1, 1, helvetica]) and the Assistant SSL in OAM uses by default the standard HTTPS port (443). However, being a privileged port 443 a non-root user cannot link to it. In other words, the documentation of the Oracle himself led me to an impossible situation. That's what I see in the Apache error log:

[Fri May 15 15:05:03 2009] [critical] (13) permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to port 443

At this point, I see two possibilities:

1. launch the application as root layer services.
2. change the SSL port to something higher to 1024 (i.e. 4443).

I'm leaning toward option #2, as the #1 option cancels the advantage of using a non-root user in a first time. Someone at - it any other suggestions? Oracle has recommendations for this scenario?

Hello

Simply start Apache as root (not all application services). For Option 1, the application layer files must belong to the user applmgr/oracle (not), and Option 2, you don't need to change the port (if it's a viable option). Just follow the steps described in the following document.

Note: 356080.1 - how to run Apache on Port 80 in 11i applications
https://metalink2.Oracle.com/MetaLink/PLSQL/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=not&P_ID=356080.1

BTW, this is mentioned in the document "If you chose the 443 port (or port less than 1024) for your SSL port, you will need to start Apache as root".

Kind regards

  • Root user cannot create VMS within the Resource Pool after you rename the Cluster

Currently, vCenter manages two clusters. I renamed a single cluster and the root user seems now are not allowed to create a new Virtual Machine in resource pools to the title of the group with the changed name. I tried to change the name of the cluster to its original name... no luck.

The root user can still create a VM under the individual cluster nodes, but not in a resource pool.

The cluster that has not been renamed yet can be managed completely with the root user. Resource pools it allow me to create a virtual machine.

  • . VMDK copy with the non-root user account

    Hello

On a machine of ESXi 3.5, I try to copy the files with a non-root account created

I have same asigned this account non-root Administrator role

I activated the SSH on the ESXi host

The virtual machine is turned off

With the non-root using winscp or plink with cp account I can copy the .log files and .vmx files but no other files

When I log in to the root account can I copy all the files belonging to the virtual machine.

Does anyone know what is the reason for this behavior?

    Any help greatly appreciated

    This is a permission problem.

If you see the permission (for example with ls - l), you will see that only root has rw - for these files.

You can change the permissions chmod g + rw File_List and add you're your root in Group (add entry in/etc/group).

  • Allowing non-root users to mount the ISO images in VSphere

    Hello!

I'm running ESXi 5 on a root server and want my users to be able to mount a local data store ISO images in their respective VMs.

I created a role to allow them to start/stop/restart etc their VM, that works well. But I am confused as what permissions, I need to define where to allow them to browse and set an ISO for their virtual CD drives. The authorization 'Browse the data store', set for the virtual machine and the server, doesn't really help.

    All ideas are welcome!

    Sorry for the late reply,

I can choose an ISO local data store and create a new virtual machine with the following privileges on a stand-alone ESXi 5:

    Data store > allocate space

    Data store > Browse Datastore

Home > operations > reconfigure virtual computer

Resources > assign virtual machine to the list of resources

Virtual machine > all (but this could / should be more restrictive)

I understand that in the Unix Apache must be started as root in SSL mode. Are there specific I should do for Windows? After returning from the context file to the original file and running autoconfig Apache starts normally.

    Hello

1st thing to try is the system in safe mode restore to before the problem

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

If that does not solve it read more

    read the tutorial below

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/130095-user-profile-service-failed-logon-user-profile-cannot-loaded.html

When you log on a Windows Vista-based or a Windows 7 computer by using a temporary profile, you receive the following error message:

The user profile Service has not logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

Your user profile was not loaded correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary profile.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/947242

If you tried to log on to Windows and received an error message telling you that your user profile is damaged, you can try to fix it. You will need to create a new profile and then copy the files from the existing to the new profile. You must have at least three user accounts on the computer to perform these operations, including the new account that you created.
