Mac do not need of any kind, including Norton anti-virus programs.  There is no virus for OS X currently, so anti-virus programs are not fundamentally necessary at this time.  Completely uninstall instructions for the developer.  Regarding the upgrade to El Capitan in general, make sure that you have a full backup of your system or with Time Machine or something like CarbonCopyCloner.  If you want, you could also partition your hard drive and install El Capitan top to 'test drive' so to speak, to see if you really like it.

It also goes without saying that you must ensure that all your applications are updated to work with El Capitan.

  • Virus detected but not deleted

My anti virus program (Sophos) has identified a virus, but cannot be removed. It's a Mac using OS X El Capitan. What can I do?

Anti-virus programs are not necessary on a Mac. There is no known virus capable of attacking OS X. AV apps are a cure for a disease that does not exist. They often produce false positives. Uninstalling Sophos. It is possible that you have some adware. I download and run MalwareBytes to make sure. It was developed by one of our colleagues here to ASC. He received rave reviews and is on the more proven anti-malware for Mac software.

  • Norton 360 toolbar is not compatible with Firefox 17.0.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton 360 and ran LiveUpdate twice. Norton Toolbar still does not work.

    From: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Norton-Identity/Firefox-17-Support-for-Norton-Toolbar/td-p/853416
We recommend that you have the latest version of Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 installed. If you do not see the Norton Toolbar in Firefox 17, check and make sure you are running NIS or N360 20.2.0.19. Visit our Norton Update Center to receive the latest update.

You will need to run LiveUpdate and restart several times before your product is completely updated to the latest version. It will appear in the history of LiveUpdate as Norton Toolbar add-on for Firefox.

If you use Firefox 17 and Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 20.2.0.19 and still not see the Norton Toolbar, please check and make sure that the Norton Toolbar plugin is enabled. You can do it clicking on the Firefox menu, by selecting Add-ons and then clicking Activate next to Norton Toolbar.

    Hello

    ·         What are the troubleshooting steps that you try?

    ·         What solution did you run?

Before Windows updates, follow these methods.

Method 1: Reset the Windows Update components.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

Method 2: Disable all third-party security software, except for Microsoft security Essentials.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 3: Put the computer in a clean boot State prior to update installation to see if there are any software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After the clean boot for troubleshooting, return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

    Method 4:

You can also manually install updates (KB number) by downloading from the Microsoft Download Center.

  • Delete a file called "wre.exe", now two of my virus scanners will not work and nor does internet Explorer, how to fix?

I took my computer to the shop twice to fix the same virus, and then I got it again. This time, I decided to try to fix myself because obviously they couldn't do it, despite having taken $200 from me.

my mother gave me Norton antivirus, and its history has shown me where the file kept showing in taskmanager, so I went there and deleted. the virus seems to have disappeared and to a large extent, my computer seems to work but I can't run microsoft security essentials or antimalware bytes. haven't tried my other programs yet, but I know that I can still read PDF files, and I can see my photos. the icon of internet explore doesn't work, I got in line to say things to try to find the file online. whenever I try to go online, or use one of my two antivirus, it tells me to choose a program to use to open it.

is there anyway that I can fix this? really get rid of the virus? I can't afford to have this fixed thing again, and of course, they are unable to him anyway.

If you like not what it was, I think it was called xp antivirus 2012 or something similar.

in fact, its virus programs not only blocking, his block anything that does not use another program to run, like adobe or realplayer. I am sure that it changed something. I'll try this thing to scan in any case, just to see if it finds anything. If it isn't, I have no choice but to do a complete reinstall of windows.

is there a risk to the installation of an operating system from an obsolete drive severely? as in will be my computer be infected again until he finally update all the way?

First of all, you can not delete a file by using the Task Manager. You can choose to terminate a process but cannot remove a file that you have indicated above in your initial post.

Second, you can't have the two Microsoft Security Essentials and Norton installed on the same machine. Conflict reducing your coverage and possibly even cause a blue screen.

Thirdly, you are unable to open due to the malware programs change you file associations of executable files.

Fourthly, you have problems to connect to the internet most likely because the malicious software modified your internet connection settings.

It will be easy to fix if you follow my instructions carefully.

With the help of a good working computer and flash drive you mentioned above download the four files below save them on the flash drive.

    XpExeFix.reg

    RKill

    RemoveProxy

    Malwarebytes< it="" doesn't="" matter="" that="" you="" may="" already="" have="" malwarebytes="" downloaded.="" use="" the="" one="" on="" the="" link="" i="" provided.="" it="" has="" been="" renamed="" to="" allow="" it="" to="" run="" on="" infected="">

Now take the flash drive for infected patients. Open the flash drive. Right-click on XpExeFix.reg and choose merge. Confirm the prompt. You should receive a message that the information has been added to the registry.

Then, double-click RemoveProxy and run it. Once the operation is completed, you should be able to access the internet. If you are unable to run the file go to the step below and run RKill and then return to this step.

Then, from the flash drive double click on RKill and choose to run it. It may take a while to complete but, just let it run. You will get a window similar to that of the command prompt and must be informed when the process is complete.

Once the RKill completed, double-click Malwarebytes and choose to install it. Update to update the installation, then run a full scan. Remove any detected object. If you are unable to update just for some reason any run it.

Post when you have completed these steps for additional instructions.

  • Norton virus keeps wanting to reboot the computer

Norton antivirus program, continues to tell me it has corrected a virus entering, then asks me to restart the computer.

Have already done this 3 times.

They keep asking to stop the computer.

    How can I stop this

    Deanna

    Hi Deanna,

This problem can cause if anti-virus program Norton fails to remove the virus infected the computer. I suggest you to refer to the steps and check if that helps.

Note: If you use more than one antivirus or antispyware program at the same time, your PC may know a decrease in performance, become unstable, or restart unexpectedly. Make sure you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer for best performance.

    Try the following steps:

    Step 1

This problem can also cause due to the infection by the virus, you can perform the antivirus scan in safe mode with networking and see if it helps.

Start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Note: When the boot advanced options select Safe mode with network.

    Step 2

    Run Microsoft Online Scanner.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: the data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means there is a risk of data loss.

Also run a full scan using Microsoft Security Essentials, click on the link for more information.

What operating system do you use? My quick research, this is not a virus. This file is associated with the Cyberlink software. Norton is aggressive enough to attack unknown files. Don't worry about this file, its not malicious in some way.
