I tried the fix from Microsoft a tool couple of times, but it cannot solve the problem either. When I click on details in this tool, I get this information...

I also tried the windows key + R, then opened msdt /cab 'C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab' that the tool does not solve the problem either, it gives me this message:
I have not noticed a specific to an error number associated with the update, but yesterday I got an error on windows Defender. I looked up a fix for this, but it has not yet changed nothing about the updates.
It is a Dell Inspiron 537 with Vista (x 64) Service Pack 2 (build 6002)
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello
Welcome to the Microsoft Vista answers Forum!
As we need some clarification on this issue, could you please tell us.
(a) which is the update fails on your computer?
To know the update failure, you should check the history of update on your computer.
Steps to follow.
1. click on start.
2. type Windows Update in the search field.
In the upper left corner, you will find the update history.
Reset the Windows Update components
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058
Once the Windows Update components are reset, try to reinstall updates. To do so,
1. open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, all programs and then click Windows Update.
2. click on the settings option to change on the left navigation bar. You will now be on a screen where you will be able to set up how to download and install the updates on your Windows 7 computer.
3. Select the option check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them. When you have finished setting options that you want, press the OK button to save these settings. You will now be at the main screen of Windows Update.
4. in the left pane, click search for updates, and then wait while Windows searches the latest updates for your computer.
5. you can then download the updates one or both.
6. click on install updates to install updates currently selected.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you get all the updates you want on your PC.
If these suggestions do not help I recommend checking out the link below for parts reset Windows Update and try to install the updates.
If you are not able to install updates in Normal mode, then you can start your computer in safemode, and then try to install the updates.

@ Evanston only!...
You see the effects of a hijackware infection! If you had used the computer longer, I might recommend trying to detect & remove infections. But it would probably take a week or two and I'm sure you have better to do with your time right now so I would recommend the following (which shouldn't take any more than two hours of uninterrupted time).
See...
Cleaning a compromised system
http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc700813.aspxPersonal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!
HOW to do a clean install of Win7: see "using the custom installation and formatting the hard drive option" (or "reinstall it Windows 7") http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7 article
NOTE: If your computer came with a set of disks, there is a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you would use to do the clean install (AKA a "destructive recovery").
After the new installation, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of EVERYTHING on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) AND BEFORE to plug in a flash, SD card, or any other external drive to the computer otherwise:
4 steps to help protect your new computer before going online
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/pypc.aspxVERY IMPORTANT! -Online free trial Norton will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the removal tool again Norton before installing updates AND BEFORE installing your new application antivirus (for example, Avast5 or Microsoft Security Essentials, free).
Tip: Do not install Spybot again; It's really overkill in Win7 my humble OPINION, especially if you are installing Microsoft Security Essentials.
