Not continuous throughout of documents automatic Page numbering book

Since I upgraded to CS4, I can't my book do the automatic page numbering. Each document begins with 1 even though I chose "Continue the previous document" in the Panel book and "automatic numbering" in the panels of the document page. I put a few number of page in start page "numbering at..." or it won't let me on the Panel (saying "Invalid entry"), even if the automatic page numbering is selected. I have 'absolute to paging"checked in the preferences.

Two choices. Select the page in the control panel and open the dialog box numbering and Section options. Uncheck the box for article of departure, or change the auto-numbering option.

  • How to fix my error of automatic page numbering

    Hi all:

I'm working on a book with many chapters and some even, I put every single chapter as an .indd file. Now, I need auto page all indd files and found that I made a mistake on my template file: I checked the start page, numbering at 1. When I add my files indd in a book file, cannot have continue a separate paging.

I reset each document individual indd to automatic page numbering, but did not work.

Appreciate if someone can help me to fix this, to avoid to set page numbers by hand for all indd documents.

YEST, the numbering in each chapter files options is everything that is wrong.

  • Variations of glyphs for automatic page numbers?

    Hello

Anyone happen to know how to use an alternate glyph for the automatic page numbering? OT police I use has an alternate glyph for the number '1 '.

    InDesign CS3 / MacPro

    Thank you!

    Jesse

If it's just another character in the glyphs Panel, I don't think there is a way to automate that. InDesign can automate it only if it is configured as a stylistic set or a ligature, or an ordinal, a contextual alternate. Or a signature. Or something like that. In other words, if you can change via the OpenType menu (in Control Panel), then you can change it with a style.

  • I'm trouble getting the automatic page numbering and TOC to play nice.

    Hello

    I use Indesign CC 2014.

I created a book, consisting of several separate Indesign documents. The page number for the majority of the documents resets to 1, even though the settings are correctly defined:

    1st Screenshot at Aug 15 15-56-14.png

The screenshot above shows the second document in the book. The page numbers in the document are properly leaving page 13, as long as the previous document finished at 12.

But see how the book file shows the numbers restart from 1. And they do the same thing on the table of contents:

    3rd Screenshot at Aug 15 16-03-15.png

Here are the numbers .indb option settings:

    2nd Screenshot at Aug 15 15-59-45.png

I think I have these configured correctly, and yet the book file shows each page 1 reset.

All the documents have the same exact Document number Options, as I showed earlier.

I even tried to create a file of book .indb nine, but the problem remains.

I sent the .idml the version files to a friend who has Indesign cs5, and she said they were numbered everything correctly on the two real pages and in the table of contents - she had absolutely no problem on its version. So there must be another parameter/overide/bug on my system that causes this problem.

I'd love help on how to fix this please.

    Thank you

    Problem solved!

I came across this post (Re: automatic numbering does not work in the files of the book of) and the fix was: preferences-> General-> Page numbers and put it in the Section numbering. I had already been advised to have as absolute numbering, but once I changed it, the problem is resolved.

  • Automatic page numbering

    I do a manual.

I have a preface with credits, covers, etc. and then my first chapter. I want to start the document numbering on the second page of the chapter which is a left page. When I tell him and auto page number where to start, it makes the page a right-hand page. I don't want that. What is the work around? Does anyone know? I'm a long-time with CS2 Mac user. I'm doing this project in InDesign.

InDesign "mixture" of the page. Tell him not to do so; Uncheck the box "Allow selected spread to Shuffle" for the spread that you restart your pagination.

You are, of course, fully aware that it is highly, let me rephrase, extremely rare to have odd page... on the left page numbers?

  • Automatic page numbers displaying incorrectly

I only use Indesign CS6 about once a year for work. I had the same thing happen last year and managed to solve the problem but, for the life of me I don't remember what I changed.

When I add automatic page for master pages numbers, two-digit numbers appear just to left instead of left to right. For example: "10" displays as "01", displays '12' '21' and so on.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I finally thought to it. The text box was too small and was originally the text to display incorrectly. I did the larger box, and it fixed the problem.

  • Why numbered lists will not continue between the documents in a book?

    Dear community InDesign,

I am nearing completion of a volume of 1100 page, organized in book form in ID CS6 (OS X) composed of about 15 different documents. According to the excellent orientation in those discussions, I used a paragraph style to generate via the numbered lists figure captions.

For some reason, numbered lists restart between sequential in the book chapters, while I need them to continue between the blocks specified documents. Please note that I already have:

    1. Define continues numbered lists from previous documents
    2. Go to Type > > bulleted and numbered lists > > define lists > > edit list to verify that 'continue Document numbers in previous book' is checked
    3. Synchronize all documents in the book and updated the numbering via the book panel
    4. Read a lot of discussion on this site to try to locate this problem without success (but if you have a lead, I'm more excited to see)

Any suggestions would be welcome; I put things up through the proverbial book, and it seems that simply check the box "Numbers continue" should be enough, but it isn't.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    S.

There is a Update Page and Section numbers - and there is also an "update chapter and paragraph numbers.

Thing is to check that the numbering is set to follow the previous book - and then refresh the chapter and the numbering of the paragraphs.

    Which solves the problem?

  • Break from automatic page numbering

    Hello

I'm working on a document that has several inserts I want to be numbered differently (A, B, C, d...) than in the rest of the document. I know that I can use sections to accomplish the different characters, but how do I get the normal numbering of the pages in the sequence as these inserts did not exist, and vice versa for the inserts to be numbered as if other pages did not exist.

    For example...

    PG 1.

    PG 2.

    PG 3.

    A,

    B,

    PG 4,.

    PG 5.

    C,

    D,

    p. 6

    PG 7...

Thank you very much for your time, and sorry if this is Basic.

    Steve.

You must explicitly start the numbering for each section to the correct number. If you leave to continue previous ones, special sections are going to start with the equivalent of the letter of next page number, and ordinary sequencing will get a hole corresponding to the numbered pages.

This means that you have to adapt the numbers if you add or delete pages everywhere except at the end of the document.

  • Automatic Page numbers to cement in Place

    Hello world

I did a search on it, but I am struggling to find the right answers.

I have a document with a page number automatic on each page. I want to be able to do is lose the character "automatic" so that when I mix autour pages, many remembered where it was. That is to say. on each page, I have some text that reads "Propagation carried over from page 22 of the previous revision of the document.

Is there a script I can use to achieve this?

Please let me know if you need more clarification!

    Much appreciated,

    Lewis

A few days ago, I wrote a script - start - against this example document to see how it works.

    app.findTextPreferences = app.changeTextPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;

    alert("Done");

  • Page numbers not listed is not in data merge Document?

Hello, I hope someone can help. I am fairly new to InDesign, but a lot of learning.  I create a directory the about 200 pages (around 2800 records merged from .csv in InDesign 6). Everything works fine with the merger, except generating page numbers.  I tried to add page at the bottom of the page number to the master BEFORE merging. But if I do this, it greys on the 'multiple records per page' option when you try to run the data merge (using 'create a merged Document').  So, I tried to add the page number to the A-master after you HAVE created the merged document, but the page number does not appear on the pages.  There must be a way to do it, can anyone help?

(FYI - to generate the automatic page numbering, I go to the Page current-markers-character number special Type-Insert and put that in a field of text at the bottom of the page.)  Thanks in advance. )

I don't see a page number in the mask of law and all of your pages are pages on the right.

  • How to make the page numbers see the v.5.6.2 Pages automatically through the document?

    MacOs 10.11.4, v5.6.2 Pages.

How can I make Pages automatically page numbers?  I want to be able to scroll through a multipage created from a blank template document & print specific pages.  Have sought and found answers on paging, but no address my question.  JV

Pages v5.6.2 dislike doing anything automatically. Page numbers are shown to you when you scroll through a document:

    1. Associated with each thumbnail in this display mode
    2. By inserting the page number in the header or the footer

That's all for v5.6.2 Pages. Whenever you want to print a specific page, you will need to check the Pages: of the _____ to the _____ in the OS X Print Panel and specify the same value for each entry field to print the page in question. There is no automatic printing of selected pages in the selection of this Panel paper handling.

Pages ' 09 v4.3 would show the current page number on a lower status bar, with or without page numbers inserted in the header of document/footers. This view could be clicked, and it would change to a text entry where we could fix the jump to page number.

  • Table of contents: not positioned wrong page numbers

When I create my "list of Figures" (A Table of contents item type) I get ugly results such as (p83 and p84):

    Screen Shot 2014-02-05 at 5 February 14.21.49.png

    and (p105)

    Screen Shot 2014-02-05 at 5 February 14.22.13.png

There is not always a dashed line and page numbers are not always end on the right. Is there a way I can influence it?

I found a solution, less elegant, but it seemed to work in my little test. Add a GREP style to your paragraph to add a character without pause style tab and the number. (This corrects the independent left-aligned numbers).

Then do a search and repalce to add a space before the tabs. The result is far from ideal, because it leaves a space between the text and the leader, but it seems to solve the problems of end of line too tight.

  • Indexing - transfer of page numbers

    Indexing question

After having a terrible time of indexing of a book.

I do not use the indexing InDesign feature because it requires knowing the structure of the index as we create the book. Without object in the structure of this book.

Background: book see: 29 chapters, 490 pages. Running an iMac on OS 10.6, using InDesign CS 5.

In the menus of the book 'Book Page number Options' is set at: order of pages i), continue from previous document.

In the drop down menu layout the numbering and Section Options, are set to: automatically update Page and Section numbers, the "New article" the automatic Page Numbering box is checked.

These are the settings under which I wrote the book. Has not had a problem with page numbers 'exploitation '.

Question: Now for some reason any page numbers are not "stable". For example, this morning when I resumed indexing Ch. 12 had numbers page 125-162 and Ch, 13 had page numbers 161-176. It took some time to convince InDesign started by Ch. 13 on page 163.

I can't keep the re-indexing. Almost out of resources. Guess I have something wrong in the page number for the indexing selections?

    For any help... Thank you

.. Also, it does not accept 'x '.

    Should she have?

I have 'absolute to paging"checked in the preferences. Help! Please, I beg you!

He he he. You gave him right at the end! "Absolute page numbering" vs "Section numbering" is just for use in InDesign itself - when you go to a certain page or print a range of pages. We call her 'View' for nothing. If you insert a page number, you will see that ID actually correct poster - whichever you choose, not the absolute number of page of the document.

It is harmless (given that your document will print, index and reference just perfect) but if you mind... 'Show page number' value by default, "Section numbering".
