Not enough space in a disk hard type virtual "Extensible" - how to develop?

My system
  • VMWare Fusion 2.0.4

  • Virtual machine with Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop

Situation

My vm has a virtual disk of type growable. The size of the file on the filesystem *.vmdk occupies approximately 4.7 GB. In the virtual machine, I try to install the Oracle database. Oracle requires 1.5 GB of free space on the hard disk. When I try to install Oracle, he complains that there is insufficient disk space. True, "df-h" on the machine virtual Ubuntu says:

  • / dev/sda1 6.6 G 5.3 G 986 M 85%.

So I have to increase my size of virtual disk. I tried using vmware-vdiskmanager:

  • $ vmware-vdiskmanager - x 8 GB Ubuntu - 9_04 - Desktop.vmdk

This should add at least a few GB on my drive.

Problem

However when vmware-vdiskmanager ended up expanding and I restart my vm, 'df-h' always tells me exactly the same thing:

  • / dev/sda1 6.6 G 5.3 G 986 M 85%.

So, the expansion has had no effect on the amount of space available inside my vm. I tried to develop of the Panel; same effect... Since Oracle install if there is not at least 1.5 GB available, I'm stuck.

Questions
  1. What should be the effect of the expansion of a virtual disk of type "stretchy"?

  2. When I look in my vm I see my stretch drive has a size of 8G, but the *.vmdk file size is only 4.7 GB, and the same value appears when I am looking for the size of the disk inside my VM. So what does it mean exactly that VMWare tells me my stretch drive size 8GB? Is there an upper limit or something? (Some additional information that may be related to my problem: this disc has been transformed it from a prealloue disk disk y extensible).

  3. The most important question: how to increase the available disk space of 986M inside my hard drive virtual to something more than 1.5 GB? I guess this can be achieved by converting my HDD to type 'preallouee' but I really don't want to do that because after the installation of a lot of space will release once again inside the virtual machine and I don't want to change it back to 'stretch' to be able to reduce it again...

I guess I'll have to find how to allocate the new space on my virtual drive extended to the partition under Ubuntu...

You can use GParted Live as mentioned in the resizing of the ramdisks with step by step Instructions if you use Fusion 2.x, you need to edit (edit manually) file configuration .vmx of the Virtual Machine to the target to ensure that settings and the following values exist so that the mouse works properly at boot to GParted Live under Fusion 2.x.

usb:0.deviceType = "mouse"
usb:0.present = "FALSE"
mouse.vusb.enable = "FALSE"

    Hello

    1. what operating system is installed on the computer?
    2. you have any third-party backup software installed on the computer?

Start the shadow copy volume service and see if the problem persists.
    a: click Start > run
    b
: type Services.msc in the start search box and click on enter.
c: Are now looking for a shadow copy volumeservice, double-click it to open it.
d: make sure that the Service is started and set to Automatic.

Shadow copy is a technology included in Microsoft Windows that allows taking manual or automatic backup copies or snapshots of data, even if it has a lock on a volume that is specific to a precise moment in time on regular intervals.
There should be more space on the backup destination media to take successfully no matter what data should be backed up from the source backup media.

    Hope this information helps.
  • Try Powershell Copy-Item, get the message "there is not enough space on the disk.

If I replace Copy-Item by Move-Item, everything works fine. I didn't ' t want to move the file, however, simply copy it.

[Macromedia] [SequeLink JDBC Driver] [ODBC Socket] [Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access driver] Not enough space on temporary disk.

    Hello

I agree with this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/165041/en-us here. I've done this before and modify my registry settings. I did it the year last on the same server that is gave me this question today. But this time I emptied the Cache of CFMX 7 which he sorted. Is there a logical explanation why it worked as opposed to the registry update?

I may sound pedantic on this subject but in search of answers. :)

  • not enough space on the disk for files to burn. How can I stop the message files waiting to be burned to the disc without burning the files

How to stop the message you have files waiting to be burned to the disc. I don't want to delete the files I just want the message ent.

    Hello

By deleting records, you not delete the orginial files. The original files will be saved in a different location. As suggested above, the files are first copied to a temporary location, and then a disk image file is created. To remove the pop up, you may need to delete the temporary files in the location of "burn".

    Hope this information helps.

Is the library of the PCF on your startup disk and where the media is stored?

If you burn a movie from a file in the Finder, it is a data disk and will not readable on a Blu Ray player.

  • Not enough space available on the disk without title

Every time when I trie to install any creative cloud application, I get an error "not enough space available on the disk untitles-(30). There is no disc titled untitled and there is enough free space (50 GB).

It happens on my Mac Mini and Mac Book Pro. The only similarity I can find, is that they have both a Kingston custom 60GB SSD.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem, I already tried to change the location of installing a HARD drive.

    You're right, this isn't a problem downloading.

It's a lack of space in / tmp (or/private/tmp). It is a silent place to stash huge to download files, but moving on... It's an easy fix.

If you're set up with an SSD a popular board 'longevity' is the tmp in RAM or elsewhere to save some wear and tear.

In expression, type "df - kh", if you see/private/tmp anywhere under "mounted on ' and the 'result' is not large (several concerts I assume), there is your problem.

The most popular advice ramdisk (can not find the link right now) is to place a startup item to do this job and name "RamFS" or/System/Library/StartupItems/RamFS. Move it out or chmod 000 it temporarily, restart and install. You can replace the StartupItem subsequently (and restart).

Everytime I try it however, I get the error "your bootable USB key could not be created there is not enough space available on the disk. Just FYI, running sfc/scannow won't help, but it will waste your time and you will not be able to determine which file is causing the problem because...

When sfc/scannow runs successfully, you will see a start and complete message in the Event Viewer log system.

It can take a long time to run and slow down your system.  When it starts and stops correctly you can only see events like this in the case where the system log viewer:

    Event type: Information
    Event source: Windows File Protection
    Event category: no
    Event ID: 64016
Analysis of file File Protection Windows has been started.

    Event type: Information
    Event source: Windows File Protection
    Event category: no
    Event ID: 64017
Windows File Protection file analysis completed successfully.

There is no information about what he did or what he did not.

Even if sfc/scannow finds something to do, you will not know about it.

That's why try again more than a waste of time.

  • Backup Restore Time Machine: not enough space

Hi all, I am a neophyte tech so forgive me if I'm not clear. I will try to explain the problem as best I can:

I have an old MacBook 2009 running Mountain Lion. A few months ago, my brother gave me his old Pro and so my MacBook 2009 fell by the wayside. I used an external hard drive with that old computer as my backup time machine, but as I tried to transfer a lot of documents and photos and update of dropbox and download photos of google and to understand each of these things as I went along, I totally messed up the MacBook. Just... things are weird... nothing was, where it used to be and my photos were gone and Yes, much of this is probably down to me trying to understand a bunch of new programs at once, BUT what I want to do is to restore it to the way it was using a time machine backup.

So, I googled around and I know when I start it up until I'm supposed to press Ctrl + R and choose the backup that I want, but when it gets to the part where I select a destination and click the only option (the Mac HD), an error message appears with a yellow flag saying "this disc is not enough space to restore your system.

Now, I don't really know what that means, but what I want to do is to get rid of the current way, this computer is completely and attach it to the way it was when I did the last Time Machine backup.

Someone help me please... this stuff is so frustrating when I can't figure it out for me and I am sure that there is an easy solution. I read a lot about partitions etc. but I don't know what all of this means that even.

    Thank you in advance!

Boot into Recovery now command + R to start. Choose disk utility and erase the boot volume, it should be named Macintosh HD, unless you renamed it. When the erase is quit disk utility and choose to restore from your Time Machine backup. OS X: on OS X Recovery - Apple Support
