  The question is how did you install the operating system? If you use the restore CD to install all tools including Toshiba HW setup. If the unit is pre-installed with the Microsoft Windows XP Home edition CD, you must install all the stuff of Toshiba late.

  Just a little explanation about the wireless network card. Basically, if the wireless switch indicator turns not on s clearly indicate on hardware problem. I guess that the wireless card is faulty. Also check if the card is listed in the Device Manager.

  If you want to enter the BIOS settings pres ESC key at the boot routine and keep it down for a few seconds.

  IMO, this kind of response is yet another reason to remove all Symantec software 'security' of your computer.

  As far as I know, Microsoft Windows Filter Manager is software that is designed to be used by third-party developers (it is in this case Symantec) for simply integrating their software in Windows.  It is not controlled by the user.

  That said, it is possible (no guarantee) If you provide information in Event Viewer that relates to the crib of filter, someone here may be able to help.

  • Open the event viewer (start > run > eventvwr > OK)
  • Look in the Application logs and system warnings and errors
  • Double-click a warning or an error of knowledge (properties)
  • If the Filter Manager produces an error, it will probably be in the system log
  • When (if) you find an entry that relates to the Manager of Windows filters, click on the "copy" icon in the properties of the page (just below the up/down arrows) and paste the information into your answer here "

  But you should consider seriously really get Norton Removal Tool and Norton replacement with something else.

  Microsoft Security Essentials is a good free antivirus solution and eSet NOD32 Antivirus is a good business idea.

  6. I checked the Windows Mobility Center. Wireless 'tile' was where it should have, according to other messages I saw who were on this subject. I tried to run Windows Update manually to see what, if any, driver updates it can find (using a network cable connection) and got the error 'cannot be updated because the Windows Update service is not started. This should have worked but the connection still showed as "cable disconnected" (why is a mistake to launch a "cable disconnected" wireless connection?)

  14. just for fun, I ran the update from the Intel driver from their site (via wired), who identified the available for graphics and Chipset updates - I've updated both, but it did not help (no surprise).

  15. I started Windows in Safe Mode with network - just as in normal mode, he showed the connection wireless as "cable disconnected".

  I am open to any suggestions at this point. The laptop is out of warranty so prefer to avoid paid support, if in any way possible.

  Problem solved. I uninstalled all the drivers but the Ralink. Think I know what may have caused this.
  
  The recommended for WLAN driver was based on a misinterpretation on behalf of HP. HP auto detected my laptop as a 1150la instead of the 1115dx model.
  
  I'm not sure why HP thinks that my model is another, but it may have something to do with the SSHD and thermal fan replacement I did before this error WiFi.

  3. This is the first time you install it on the computer?

  I think that the wireless connection on your router may not work properly.

  Create a new wireless network.

  Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the router setup page and go to the Wireless tab, change the name of the SSID wireless network to create a new wireless network. Change the channel to 11. Save the settings.

  Go to the tab of sup of wireless security and check the security settings. Make sure you have the key/password network correct.

  Go to the sub-tab to Wireless MAC filter and make sure that it is disabled.

  Go into the settings wireless Advanced tab change the interval of tag to 75, RTS and Fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.

  Now ty to connect to the new wireless network.

  If this does not work then try upgrading/re-Flash the firmware on your router.

  Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.

  Download the latest firmware from the site Web of Linksys and save it to your computer. Open the router configuration page and update the firmware on your router. After upgrading the firmware of your router, reset the router and reconfigure.

  Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure.

  I have a HP Pavilion laptop dv2500 2 year, with the operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium. After achieving a system recovery and do all the windows and updates of the network adapter driver HP, I use the Network Wizard HP (HPNA) to implement the wireless connection, but the technology can not find wireless WiFi adapter in my laptop and so I don't have a wireless connection to Internet now. The blue wireless light is turned on. I check the network adapters in the Device Manager and can not find the wireless adapter. I have no problem in the Wi Fi connection with my laptop before I made the recovery of the system.  Now, I have to use the Ethernet cable to get internet via my D-Link router.   I think that you have diagnosed correctly.  It would be convenient if you could try another card before you buy a (maybe borrow one from a friend) and also check this adapter on another computer to see if she works there (so it can't be defective or it may simply decide to work at that moment), but as the material, you should be able to return everything you buy If she has problems. Make sure that it is compatible with your version of Vista.  I think a USB connector will very well - many people use them and I hear of any particular problem they that do not occur with all different types of devices.  It'll probably be easier to install.  Do not throw the power adapter - it may be useful someday as a spare because it does work from time to time. Mine is built into my laptop and my other laptop using a PCMCIA card (and gave me all the problems) so I can't comment from personal experience on what you have or are considering long-term (I don't count the customers - I'm not here long enough to properly evaluate).
