Note a RAW thumbnail is turn and lock.

I use Bridge (CS3) to examine all the RAW files of my shoots and select the best for further processing in ACR. To do so, I rate the thumbnails/images by using the star system.

This works well for RAW images to landscape (horizontal) format, but I hit a bug in rating the pictures in portrait format (vertical).

Most of the time when I notice a portrait image, the bridge then the immdeiately turns the thumbnail (and the image) 90 degrees to the left. The two rotation buttons are greyed out then and I can't rotate images or thumbnails to vertical. (If I selects a few images affected as well as those affected the rotation buttons are not grayed out, but clicking on them run only those affected).

Delisting does not solve the problem. They remain stubbornly turned. This causes me problems when I make a second pass through the images of 5 stars to select those final for post-processing, as I have to turn your head to the side to get a good look at the images (they are all shots of people and it is very difficult to assess unless they are oriented in a way expected).

It may be unrelated, but I also noticed that for images not affected, I often have to enter DICOM, Audio and video metadata. Once they are turned by bridge I am more able to enter these metadata. (The images were taken on a Canon 350 d, so audio and video is not applicable, and this isn't a problem in itself, just more information about the problem).

I couldn't find any other mention of this behavior with the exception of a single thread on Flickr where another user mentions the same problem (with no solution).

This is a new installation of CS3 on a new PC, and images are taken all new on a Canon 350 d. I have the workspace organized with thumbnails in the strip across the bottom and the metadata in the right pane, but change this provision does not solve the problem.

Anyone got an idea?

You say that it is a clean install, did you apply the required hotfix?

If you have, I can only suggest resetting Bridge preferences in now the Ctrl key when you start Bridge, until you get a dialogue box reset.
