NSLU2

I have two questions:

1. my NSLU2 is broken and I can't access the data on format EXT3 USB-hard drive, put in shape by the NSLU2. It has something to do with the rights of users.

I would like to save this data to another disk USB (NTFS). Any suggestions how this can be done?

2. I ordered a new NSLU2. When I connect this Usbdisc EXT3, I'll be able to get access to these data, as before?

Found the answer to the first question: I downloaded the Linux Reader for Windows Sysinternals, installed on my Vista laptop, connected the usbdrive EXT3 on my laptop and I was able to read AND SAVE data from this drive to another (NTFS) hard drive. Very easy. All my data are available again and can be used as before.

My second question; I'll see what happens, my data are accessible again, if that's so important.

Greetings!

I'm currently the NSLU2. I connected it to my router and an external hard drive connected to the NSLU2. I have the IP address set to 7.2.11.9 (my IP of the gateway is 7.2.11.1) but when I connect to my router from the Web site, the NSLU2 is not on the list of connected devices and I am unable to ping. For an interesting twist, sometimes it appears on the list of connected devices. When that happens, I'm able to see the network drive in my network card. When I right click on computer and select the network card, it shows the disc but I can't click ok to connect to it.

    Sorry if this is confusing

    Thanks for any help

No, I actually thought to it. I got the external drive plugged on disc 2. I pluged the HD in disc 1 and he showed on my network and works very well.

  • Formatting an external hard drive after use on NSLU2

I have a Western Digital 1 TB my book I am recovering for use on another windows system.

When I plug it into a Windows 7 system, it is unable to find the driver HID - but I think this might get fixed by downloading the right driver.  Seems to work without the driver HID anyway, so I continue.

The drive is not visible in Windows Explorer, so I open Manage and go to storage-> disk management.  A window pops up which informed me that "you must initialize a disk before logical disk manager can access it."  I select the disc and use the MBR partition style, and then click OK.  A new pop-up appears with the title "Virtual Disk Manager" and the message 'the system cannot find the file specified.'.

Right, I'll fix that.  Time to get out the heavy artillery.  I run DISKPART, the command line process.  "LIST DISK" shows me what number of disk I need.  'SELECT DISK 1' makes it active.  'CLEAN' it erases.  'CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY' will activate I... Oh. "DiskPart has encountered an error: the system cannot find the file specified. '. Check the log of the events system for more information. ».  Not good.

Any ideas?  The drive was used as backup - disc 2 of a set of two motor external - drive and were reported although the last backup.  I did a lot of research for this and found nothing so far, no idea why the NSLU2 product disk unformattable?

I managed to find a solution to myself.  It was an oversight on my part.

Once I have had reconnected the drive for the system, I started Manage-> Storage-> management of the disks, and then deleted the current partition on the WD My Book.  Then I could add a partition and reformat to NTFS.

  • Windows 7 and NSLU2

My problem with Windows 7 and NSLU is especially that I am (was) Impossible to connect to private for each user actions, the connection is OK but Windows 7 kept return 'invalid connection '.

I finally got around this by rather than trying to map \\HOMESTORE\user, I traced \\192.168.1.77\user

  • NSLU2 - no ip address, no connection possible

    Hello

I got flashed unslung 6.10 on my NSLU2. After unslinging this thing to make it possible to boot from the HARD drive and install more packages, it order get an ip address. After you remove the disc and try also to reformat in Ubuntu (vmware) the NSLU2 still does not have an ip address. It is not the router, already checked that.

It is not quite possible to get in update mode. (sidenote: I've never been able to get a light red one green and orange). But the mode to upgrade into the reset button does not work.

The led is agree, Green = ready/status and ethernet = green too.

How to restore the NSLU2 at least get an IP address? Or am I doomed and need to fix it with a JTAG? (Hope not)...

    Thanks in advance,

    Joop

Try to connect the player to a computer with an Ethernet cable. Set a static IP address on the computer (192.168.1.x). Then try to ping the default IP of the NSLU2. Once you get an answer. You may access the web interface.

  • NSLU2 dead?

    Hello world

I got my NSLU2 for a few days and had no luck with it, I can't be seen from the network. I'm on the edge to return it, but it of a nice camera and hate go back if I could get it to work again, but just something miss me.

Out of the box, I followed the instructions to the wire, but to step 8, where it says "you are about to change the settings... "I click OK, and then waited. After a few minutes, it gave an error saying that it could not communicate with the device. Since then I have never seen back on the network.

I flashed with the latest firmware from Linksys (06/07/2005, ver. 2.3R63) using the program upslug2 (after some difficult Windows login with the updater series I used a Ubuntu live disk). This flash has been a success, but the nslu2 behavior is exactly the same.

I hit the button to reset for about 2 seconds and waited 30 minutes

I hit the button to reset for 10 seconds and waited..,.

I unplugged for about 10 minutes, and then back in and waited.

I also realized my 192.168.1. * network used instead of 192.168.0. *, but I am that too without a change in behavior after either type of reset.

Behavior seems normal from all the forums and the info I've read, it starts flashing the light within a few seconds of being powered and stops just never.

I missed something? What can I try now? The flash to an older firmware... ?

    Thanks for your help,

All I had to do was set up my router to not auto-negotiation ethernet settings, now all is fine! Who built a device these days who can not handle auto... weird!

Okay, I guess I don't have to worry about that kind of thing in telnet. Now on what I wanted to do there are days, using the disk hard network!

  • Replace the HDD on NSLU2

OK, so it finally arrived to the point that I need to upgrade the HDD on my NSLU2. I am currently using a 250 GB as DISK1, and let use the DISK2 GB 320 for backups to DISK1. My questions are...

    (1) if I swap to be the new DISK1 DISK2 my data (stocks, config, etc.) will be still intact?

    If not, then...

    (2) how can I migrate to a new disk without data loss?

    and finally...

    (3) don't like just your SLUG? Mine worked for three years or more with only a few minor (although scary) hiccups.

OK, I had took charge. I moved to the port of disk1 disk2, everything is good to go, so now I can connect the new drive in port disk2 and should be good to go, just I have to configure the backup again routine since it automagically diappears when it is initialized with only one connected disk.

  • How to ftp to a NSLU2

I can enter into the NSLU2 via ftp from windows without problem but do not seem to be able to get my IP WEBCAM to send photos and video via ftp

Through a local network, so, the webcam is on 192.168.1.10 and NSLU2 is on 192.168.1.77

I want to ftp images to DISK 1/images using password and admin user.

Can't seem to make it work?

In the name of the FTP server field, replace "ftp://192.168.2.77" (which is a URL or URI) with a few "192.168.2.77" (which is a host address).

Do not add the IP address for the path distance as Brickmonkey said; the remote path is used when the FTP session once the connection to the FTP server has already been established, so it's irrelevant here. A path like '192.168.2.77/DISK 1/images' does not work because your SIN is not a '192.168.2.77' file sharing.

You indicated that you are already aware of the potential problem with space in path name, I recommend the implementation of a separate share for the images of the camera (this way you will be able to move the part to a different location without having to reconfigure the camera).

Once you get to work, you can also consider setting up a separate user on the NAS ID (access ID to your directory to upload images camera only), so that the camera doesn't have to log on as an administrator. Don't forget the Protocol FTP isn't secure: passwords are sent and received in clear text.

  • Cannot access the NSLU2 on network - HELP!

Hello, recently hooked the NSLU2 again after a few years of storage. It fine to the connected router (WRT54GS running tomato 1.25), but for the life of me I can't get to be recognized by the network.  192.168.1.77 ping fails, I have reset the default router without success.

The Ethernet on the NSLU2 light is on and sometimes flashes.  The light of the port on the router is on. It just will not be displayed in the list of devices in the tomato.

Running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.  Thank you!

    -Paul

Hi, use a port scanner to find out that the HTTP port on the slug has been yet defined a former high port number, could access and reset once I got it. I thought that the hardware reset would put this back to 80!

  • NSLU2 does not recognize the hard drive

    Hello

    I have a NSLU2 on Win XP SP3.

It does not recognize the USB drives, he wrote that 'drive not formatted '. It only recognizes the USB key as "disk2".

    Current firmware is V2.3R29.

When I try to update the firmware, the "not enough disk space" message.

I tried the same disc on a different NSLU2 and it worked fine.

What can I do my NSLU2 reading displays the disc correctly?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Markus

It seems to be a firmware issue... The V2.3R29 firmware. is quite old. The latest firmware is Ver.2.3R63... Hard reset the NSLU2, power cycle it and then try to update the firmware. After upgrading the firmware, reset it again and reconfigure... Disconnect the HARD drive before upgrading.

  • NSLU2 disk full and that no connection from XP, Vista, Windows 7

    Hello

I'm about to send my NSLU2 to the Distributor. When installing first authentication did not work Vista when the network drive mapping - this has been resolved with the evolution to allow NTLM on local security policy.

From transfer my multimedia files, I realized that half of my large files are copied smoothly, the other half reported media to be full (with about 700 GB of free space). He doesn't follow any logic I understand - size of copied files is sometimes bigger than full media reports. Logs show nothing... Looking at the previous posts, I found Vista patches and variations

that did not help at all (Vista is the last patch level).

Not help not to proceed in troubleshooting that I tried to connect to one of my computers portable Windows 7, unsccessful - NTLM policy change. I assume that Windows 7 is not supported... Step by step at the time that I went to an XP laptop where I mapped both Vista and share NSLU and copied the remaining files... but for understandable reasons, with a speed very very slow.

My firmware version shows V2.3R29 after the upgrade to here.

Honestly, this should run a lot smoother, I work as engineer for over 10 years, which will make a simple user?

    Thank you, Gerald.

Finally, I found a copy (teracopy) tool that is capable of doing the job... with max 5 Mbps... This device doesn't have the part, the money spent in vain...

  • NSLU2 with Windows 7

I don't access my NSLU2 with Windows 7. I tried logging in with my username and passwordbut it says connection failed: unknownusername or bad password.

  • What I am doing wrong in trying to put in place a NSLU2

I use a home network two XP Pro laptops, a Wireless Linksys router and I have just bought a NSLU2 device on which I want to connect to my external hard drive existing (a WD My Book) so that two laptops can share and save files on this disc, without the need to have one of them connected on it directly.

My network is very simple: I have ensured that TCP/IP is configured correctly. The router is configured as automatic DHCP server and has the IP address 192.162.1.1, sub set 225.225.225.0 and the IP 192.162.1.1 is noted as being the gateway. Two laptop computers receive an IP address automatically and if I put the number of users on the router to 50 it follows that their assigned an IP address in the range of 198.162.1.2 to 198.162.1.52.

I have a (not windows) firewall on each computer that is configured to accept connections from LAN in the range 198.162.1.1 to 198.162.1.52 - I have no problems sharing files and similar between my two laptops and notebooks connect perfectly to the internet.

I installed the NSLU2 scrupulously the instructions. The router it has assigned the IP 198.162.1.2

I ping the NSLU2 to my laptop, but I can't see it in my network places on one of my machines.

I can access the NSLU2 via my web browser and I can access an external hard drive & various tools, although I have no idea of what are the passwords of the administration, so I'm stuck at this point by a pop-up asking for a username and password (I tried Admin, admin - but rejects nope - only).

I tried to configure static IP addresses on my two laptops - but all Hat happened that was so that they could join the LAN, they could no longer access the internet.

Wrong me? -Why don't I see the NSLU2 in my network places? I spent hours trying to find an answer online, but without success. All I know is that the answer will be a single, so I now get my self to your feet and ask mercy!

OK for the record, I fixed it-reset the unit to default settings using the power button, which allowed me access to admin units - settings, I managed to change the name of workgroup etc, etc and I was able to map to the external hard drive.
