  Do you have any background scanning enabled?  This could be what hangs WinMail.  I don't see what else would break WM when you select only the message in the preview pane, as the body of the message is not yet loaded then.  You could try to disable antivirus and highlight the message with invalid preview pane later, just to see if it stops.

  I would offer to watch this message if you could it send me in attachment, but apparently you wouldn't be able to do it without crashing.

  Sorry, I don't know how or why an obsolete add-on would be installed on a new PC, probably related to the installation of the printer of HP on the new PC software.
