Old machine to slow down.

I have a older laptop, Dell Latitude 610, it was slow for awhile.  I am having trouble loading programs in a reasonable time and checked the memory.  It says that 1 GB of memory installed, BUT 395,53 MB of AVAILABLE memory.  That's the problem and how it heals. ???

It runs Windows XP, has SP3 and all updates installed.

You can install more memory or remove programs you don't need

Follow the instructions below, provided by Shenan Stanley:

Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

·                                 MalwareBytes (FREE)

·                                 SuperAntiSpyware (FREE)

Remove anything they find. Reboot when necessary. (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in. Look for whatever it is you do not know usingGoogle (or ask here.) You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory. This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

Do a house cleaning and the dust of this hard drive:

You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 9 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

If you are comfortable with the stability of your system, you can delete the uninstall of patches which has installed Windows XP...

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
2. click on the System Restore tab.
3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
-Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
-Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

You can use an application that scans your system for the log files and temporary files and use it to get rid of those who:

CCleaner (free!)

(just disk cleanup - do not play with the part of the registry for the moment)

Cleaning the components of update on your Windows XP computer

While probably not 100% necessary-, it is probably a good idea at this time to ensure that you continue to get the updates you need. This will help you ensure that your system update is ready to do it for you.

Download and run the MSRT tool manually:
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
(Ignore the details and download the tool to download and save to your desktop, run it.)

Reset.

Download/install the latest program Windows installation (for your operating system):
(Windows XP 32-bit: WindowsXP-KB942288-v3 - x 86 .exe )
(Download and save it to your desktop, run it.)

Reset.

and...

Download the latest version of Windows Update (x 86) agent here:
http://go.Microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=91237
... and save it to the root of your C:\ drive. After you register on theroot of the C:\ drive, follow these steps:

Close all Internet Explorer Windows and other applications.

AutoScan--> RUN and type:
%SystemDrive%\windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe /WUFORCE
--> Click OK.

(If asked, select 'Run'). --> Click on NEXT--> select 'I agree' and click NEXT--> where he completed the installation, click "Finish"...

Reset.

Now reset your Windows with this FixIt components update (you * NOT * use the aggressive version):
How to reset the Windows Update components?

Reset.

Now that your system is generally free of malicious software (assuming you have an AntiVirus application), you've cleaned the "additional applications" that could be running and picking up your precious memory and the processor, you have authorized out of valuable and makes disk space as there are no problems with the drive itself and your Windows Update components are updates and should work fine - it is only only one other thing youpouvez wish to make:

Get and install the hardware device last drivers for your system hardware/system manufacturers support and/or download web site.

Also provide more information please:

current antivirus?

Click Start, run and enter in the box:

Msinfo32

Click OK, and when the system info summary appears, click on edit, select all (Ctrl-A), copy (Ctrl-C) and paste (Ctrl-V) the information back here in your next reply.

    Hello

What you can try is to upgrade the Rams and do a clean install of the OS, after you make a backup, but because the unit is old, it is normal to slow down.

    I hope it helps.

  • Tecra 9000 fan slows down machine

I've updated all Toshiba drivers and software. Used the latest version of the Toshiba BIOS and ran through the power bound parameters. Yet, if I work, and the fan is used, then my system temporarily slows down until the fan speed. The same is true when he slows down the fan. Really, I hate this behavior and hope there is a way that the fan is more intelligent and continues to run at a speed of averge required to maintain the freshness of the system and does not slow down Windows of course.
PS: I run WindowsXP SP2 with all updates possible.

    Hi Gert

To protect against overheating of the CPU has an internal temperature sensor. If the temperature s computer reaches a certain level, the fan is activated. If the cooling system doesn t cool the CPU enough, processing speed is lowered.
Well, in this case the fans don't work correctly because there are dirty or dust. I think you should try to clean the vents. You can use the vacuum.

    Good luck

No, not once the conversion is completed, you should see no difference.

  • Satellite P35-S605 slows down after a few minutes, then BSOD

I am running Windows XP Pro and have contributed the most to the RAM on my P35.

I had a local computer repair shop disassemble, clean all the dust and junk on, remove the processor and reinstall using thermal transfer compound. The computer has worked fine until I did this. When I came back and turned it on it started OK but started to slow down until the barley by working, and then I got the BSOD. After the memory dump, it restarted and repeat the process. After having tried several reboots, I finally gave up and called the computer repair shop I had used and returned to them. After a day, they said, it must be my drive hard because they replaced my hard drive with one of their and he ran all night with no problems. I had an old hard drive that I had removed from this machine, a few weeks before to move to a bigger so I put the old back road. The same problem remained. I again called the repair shop and told them what I had done, but they said they couldn't help me. I'm not recommedn this shop to anyone.

I was myself so after that reading many articles on the Internet, I desided to try to fix it myself. I erased the hard disk using a set 0 wipe the program. I did a disk image using Acronis before I took the computer to the repair shop, so I have restored the image. I still have the same problem!

  • Games slow down a computer?

I played Command and Conquer 4 on my computer very old. It can be played, but the graphics are bad and it is very slow. If I continue to play the computer may crash. So I had planned to play on my new computer. But my parents do not allow that. Reasons are

    1. Games can have viruses.
    2. Viruses can hack into my computer and get information, such as bank accounts. (I installed Bitdefender 2010 IPSec)
    3. Games make my computer unreliable and slow.

Can you check for me if these reasons are true. I know too many games running at the same TIME will be a slow computer. But what happens if my requirements meet the minimum requirements for the games, it slows down the computer? Also, I defrag and cleaning my PC regularly so do not understand that my computer will do to appear slowly over a short period of time (1 year).

Hello TechKid.  Feel free to forward this message to your parents *.

    (1) their original CD-ROM or DVD-ROM games will not have the virus.  Back in the olden days where game was on a disk that it was possible that a set of second hand could have been infected, simply because the disks could be written after the fact.  Actually I've ever met.

    (2) a bit, (but still once falsely assume original games of detail will virus), in practice, they are much more wet than that.  Decent anti-malware and ensuring your machine and all the software connected to the internet is updated will solve this problem.

    (3) not true.  While the game is running, they are obviously fewer resources for other things.  But once the game has been closed it will not use all of the system resources.  In regard to making them unreliable, more wrong.

    * It won't do anything, they don't want to play you games on this machine, they will come with any excuse for this purpose.

Anyway on this system, I think that you should always keep the graphics on their low settings, the graphics card is a budget card, not suitable for games.

  • Will be older, slower, diskless / nodes consumption slow down a VSAN system?

    Hello

We have a 6 identical VSAN contributing storage of cluster nodes.
We have also two old machines (think generation Proliant G7), which are simply 'broad' and we thought to use these two to host performance reduced, not part of the virtual computer, which we have many offshore.

Question: these two boxes older, which are much slower than today's material, will drag down the performance of the entire solution VSAN. 6 nodes, contributors 'feel' the presence of these aging and all devices slow down?

There are best practices do not use a cluster asymmetric but does that refer to contribute nodes only?  I understand that the nodes 'consumers only', basically just "sitting there" but when will be the part of the Cluster vSAN, they have a negative impact? If so, why?

The network connections will be 10 gig and identical to the 6 contributing nodes. It's just the performance of the processor that are slower.

We will use the affinity / no affinity rules to keep those "low performance" VM on these older machines.

    Kind regards

    Steven

Hello, this is my understanding of your configuration.  6 new nodes in a cluster of vSAN contributing storage.  2 old nodes in a cluster of vSAN contribute not storage.  I would not expect the old 2 knots to affect performance.  Just my opinion, no way for me to provide proof.  Thank you, Zach.

  • Creative cloud slows down my computer

    Hello

Screen Grab 1: Time, I woke up my Mac (09: 28:52)

    Creative-Cloud-1.jpg

Screen Grab 2: Image of Sync still running an hour and ten minutes after that my computer has woken up!

When my MAC wakes first, and CC tries to run, it slows down the right of the computer. Trying to run what is slow, but launch anything that connects to the internet (browser/email) gets badly done!

    I checked my activity monitor...

    Creative-Cloud-2.jpg

Screen Grab 3: Shows the use of the processor (in percentage) where my computer was first wakes up.

Screen Grab 4: Shows the CPU usage after Firefox and Mail ended launch and the core of the CPU usage is a CC Adobe software.

Screen Grab 5: Indicates consumption of energy by my computer, new CC is upstairs.

Screen Grab 6: Is my settings. At the speed of transfer of 100%, I have no chance of any other connection to the internet at startup. 75%-100% during the working day it slows down my computer if I am trying to update the browser, while he was working on a Web site, and CC is something synchronization attempt. I have a 50MB connection.

I have been informed that sync is sometimes a bit weird if the computer has been stopped during a synchronization. I usually check the blue transfer the arrows are not in the top bar, meaning CC is not synchronized. I also use a HP laptop and it is all too slow there when he wakes up first of all, although not too bad, only about 10 minutes waiting.

It seems to be a major problem with CC to get IT done by someone to turn off their computer. In order to always try to connect and run more than an hour after the computer has been awakened is ridiculous! It has not always connected (11:09)!

I just can't use it any more and switch to Dropbox, turning off Sync and just using CC for updating applications. It has the potential to be a great and useful application, but fell short with his excessive CPU and energy consumption. The fact that if you turn it off during a synchronization, he throws his toys out of the pram is bad. People will often have to do, for example work on a train and the connection is lost during synchronization, or they need to close the lid of your laptop to get off the train quickly.

It took until 11:20 to connect and synchronize, almost 2 hours after my computer started!

Another issue is he says: 'some files impossible to sync' on the MAC, but the same files on the PC CC are fine? What is everything?

    Creative-Cloud-3.jpg

"All the files" on the left are the PC this morning. "Some cannot synchronize files" is the MAC this morning, exactly the same files. The files are the "_notes" that produces your product, Dreamweaver. BUT, as you can see from the screenshot below, some "_notes" folders are marked green and some red exclamation points! Why? How the names of file folders to be OK and NOT OK? Fortunately this is an old site, I should remove from CC, I no longer guard _notes' because of this problem.

Specifications (although I had different MACS with higher specifications and it still happens):

    Mac Mini (late 2014)

    OS X El Capitan 10.11.3

    2.6 GHz Intel Core i5

    8 GB memory

Iris 1536 MB Intel graphics card

1 TB Sata Drive (852 GB free space)

    HP Pavilion 17G015NA laptop

    10 64-bit Windows Home

    Intel Core i5

    2.2 GHz

    8 GB memory

1 TB of disk (816 GB of free space)

I had a major problem the other day. CC finally synchronized, so I thought and has started working on a site and transferred my files, with the new Foundation 6 scripts. Not realizing he had not really synchronized and the files I'm downloading came from the day before and not the previous night - when I was working on them on my laptop. I had to start my laptop, trying to stop him immediately synchronization, so that I can download the latest files form the previous night, then upload them to my local folder on my Mac. It is unfortunately the only way I know for sure that I have the latest files on each computer. Download them from the server I can't trust what has been synchronized by CC. It surely beats the purpose of the CC, in what it is supposed to allow users to access the same files on each machine. I can't wait for nearly two hours for CC to sync my MAC with what I worked the day before on the HP. It slows down my computer and makes it unusable for about 15-20 minutes.

Please let me know when you sort Adobe.

    See you soon

  • Flash slows down FF hangs with message "not responding".

Shockwave flash is causing crashes giving the message 'firefox is not responding' and slows down my internet experience. I know it's the add-on flash because when I disable it, firefox works much better. I tried all the suggestions concerning problems of flash on this site and nothing worked. I am running win 7 64 bit (Home premium). In addition, Firefox 36.0.1. All the drivers seem to be aware, but I'll check.

My question is... is it possible to easily disable/enable flash without going into the Add-ons Manager? According to what I'm doing, I'm in crashes and Add-ons for him Manager allow either when I need it or disable it when firefox is slow.

I've gotten to the point where I just open add-on Manager in a tab and the leave it open because I know I'll probably be in there turn flash on or off depending on the way in which its make my machine.

Also, I tried flash running in mode 'request to activate', but you must reload the page so that it can find the add-on.

This problem has been ongoing for a few months now; Performance of Firefox was so much better, but this problem does not appear to be resolved. I love firefox, I really want to go to a different browser.

    Thank you
    Duke

    Please ignore the above answer!

One of the reasons frequent slow script errors are the feature of mode of the Flash player plugin. The Protected Mode feature has safety benefits, but there seem to be some compatibility issues on some systems. You can turn it off by creating or modifying a parameter file. The following/post pages which provide different approaches:

To download the Flash completely (closing and restarting Firefox could help) until it takes effect.

As to if it slows down your Firefox or your entire system, I cannot say, but some add-ons can connect to the internet in the background, for example, to check for mail or retrieve news/weather/etc. The best way to judge if the extension's bad performance is to use Firefox without it for awhile.

The news that you pasted in your post usually comes in the DETAILS of the SYSTEM link OVER to the right of the question. Not sure what was wrong here.

Last but not least, the forum software detected your Firefox in version 18. Is this correct?

Version 18 is not safe; Mozilla reveals security flaws after each new version. Is something holding you upgrade to Firefox 21? Please let us know if we can offer you solutions or workarounds.

If help > about Firefox shows 21.0 Firefox, you may need to disable the preference that is misrepresentation of your version number. See: sites say that Firefox is obsolete or incompatible, even if it's the latest version.

  • Backups Time Machine very slow on 2015 MacBook Air

Associated with a topic of discussion between a few days ago (two MacBooks, 10.11.4, a fast Time Machine backup and a very slow), I start a new topic with new information that seem to show it is a problem more general and not related to Time Machine networks.

    Here's the situation:

    • A 2015 MacBook Air, 10.11.4, 8 GB / 512 GB, has extremely slow performance of backup Time Machine, taking 40 hours for the first 300 GB backup and incremental backups for a long time as well
    • TM performance is essentially the same whether on the network (wired Ethernet) or a USB3 external disk
    • When you back up to disk USB3, I confirmed that the information system shows that the port is configured as USB3, not USB2 (nothing else is plugged into the USB port)
    • Tests of bandwidth I/O gross (using dd and iperf) show no problem; the network reached 110 MB/s bandwidth, written network managed at 50 Mbps, external USB3 HD written work at 40-50 MB/s (write hard drive speed limit)
    • 3 other Macs of various ages from 2009-2014 on the same network have no problem at all do backups Time Machine Network; a backup complete first on a 2011 MacBook Pro 500 GB takes 5 hours or more than 10 x faster than the MBA problem
    • Time machine network uses a Linux server running the latest Debian and Netatalk 3.1.8 and the connection is via a USB3/Gigabit adapter, no WiFi, and iperf tests with this arrangement shows 900 MB/s of throughput of the server.  In all cases, the Time Machine and external time Machine Network USB HD have the same symptoms.
    • The problem with MacBook Air is configured the same as the MacBook Pro 2011, which she replaced "daily driver", possible
    • This problem was shown by the MBA since his unboxing conversion, taking 20 hours for his first backup once Setup initially.  Incremental backups now take several hours, leading to interrupted incremental backups and, I believe, databases corrupted backup triggers new full backups that take today the 40 hours.

Using Terminal Server and iostat, Console, etc, I see that there is significant activity e/s for the backup drive on the order of 20 to 40 MB/s for long periods on the MBA during the TM backup, but during that time the average declared backup size as shown in the window in the console and TM is growing by only 5 GB/hour.  This occur even if the backup will the external drive or a network drive. This seems to mean that the I/O bandwidth to and from the disk hard external, only 1/600 contributes to the progress of the backup.  I am sure that there is overload of certain checks and other tasks, but not to a 600-to-1 ratio.

I tried to disable the limitation of the I/O of low priority as shown here: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/212537/time-machine-ridiculously-slow-a close-el-capitan-upgrade, that helps a bit (maybe 20-30%), but not by a factor of 10 for others.

I have gone through a number of the Time Machine of Pondini troubleshooting steps, but he found nothing corresponding to these symptoms.

The only thing I can conclude is that Time Machine, the application or configuration, on this specific MBA, is down. (A single thought that I wrote this to the top that I have not tried: the MBA and the time MBP running VMware Fusion and have a file of 50 + GB VM; on the MBA that is not excluded from TM backups while on the MBP is)

Does anyone have advice on what to watch next?  In all cases, only one key would be why it seems that only 0.16% of all the bandwidth I/O to the backup drive seems to be actual data backup.

Once again, three other Macs, all running the same 10.11.4, back to the Time Machine Server perfectly and have for years.  Only this new MBA glue as broken out, either to a network drive or an external hard drive USB3.

(A single thought that I wrote this to the top that I have not tried: the MBA and the time MBP running VMware Fusion and have a file of 50 + GB VM; on the MBA that is not excluded from TM backups while on the MBP is)

What happens when you exclude it as the MBP?
