On RAC primary DB and a single Instance as physical Standby...

It's my 11g Data Guard scenario:

BECAUSE primary database 11g.

Single Instance Oracle 11g.

My first question is:

If each node of the RAC has 3 online redo log, should I create 4 or 7 journal watch over the database pending?

If restore database Standby long after the day I do full backup and I've got ti registry manually archived newspapers, what I do for a node of the RAC archived logs of the two?

Thank you very much.

In form 7
You must register for both nodes. Remember that you have a LGWR instance, so a redolog thread instance and the two wires together are all changes to the database.
Please make sure that in this configuration of the archived redo logs are on a shared disk.

  • Primary database is RAC and physical intelligence is the single instance

    Hi all

    I use Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 as primary database, we will begin to use the Oracle Data Guard.
    I am designing my infrastructure and planing to use single instance Oracle 11.2.0.3 my stand physical database.

    My question is it possible to have my sleep as single instance database while the primary is RAC?
    is it possible to build my Oracle database single instance ensures from the primary database to the RAC, RMAN backup?
    Are there restrictions (or all of the points to consider) as my primary database is CARS while the physics of Eve is the only Oracle instance?

    in the link below
    [http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/concepts.htm#i1039416]
    It was mentioned that primary can be CARS or simple and even the day before, but my question is possible to have primary as CARS all on standby as single instance? or it should be like each other?
    The primary database can be either a single-instance Oracle database or an Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) database.
    Similar to a primary database, a standby database can be either a single-instance Oracle database or an Oracle RAC database.

  • Running the Single Instance and RAC on the same server of different homes.

    Hi guys,.

    I already have 4 node RAC12c installed on OLE 6.

    I'm planing on some of my other 12 single instance databases on other migration for RAC nodes.

    Please correct me here if I am wrong...

    My understanding is that, to be able to use DBCA or rconfig for conversion of database instance RAC, the only instance and RAC cluster must run on the same server or machine node.

    Thanks to this understanding... Am planing on the installation of a binary single instance on one of my cluster node node1 say and then use RMAN to duplicate the single instance or just an RMAN restore from the node of the instance that is unique to this node1. Am capable of this plan must then use DBCA or rconfig to convert the CARS database.

    Now, my question is can I run a single instance and RAC on the same server for different homes with different database ports?

    2. for these unique instance that runs on the server RAC 1 node, can I use the RAC database listener that runs from the House of the grid or I have to create another auditor?

    Thank you in advance and also let me know if I can use DBCA or rconfig when the only instance and rac database are on separate nodes.

    K

    Fix. And that's what I would normally do. In general, I would have just an ORACLE_HOME directory that can be used by the punctual and RAC databases at the same time.

    See you soon,.

  • Switching between primary CARS and standby instance

    Hi all

    I'm using Oracle 11 g 2.

    I'm redoing a switch between the primary data base (RAC 2 knots) and physical standby (single instance)

    If my primary is the only forum I've followed the steps below:
    On the standby
    ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE USING CURRENT LOGFILE DISCONNECT;

    On the primary database:
    alter database commit to switchover to standby with session shutdown;
    shutdown immediate;
    startup nomount;
    alter database mount standby database;

    On the standby again:

    alter database commit to switchover to primary WITH SESSION SHUTDOWN;

    On the new standby:

    ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE USING CURRENT LOGFILE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;
    now, and since my first is CARS when I'm working on switch I get the below error:
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to standby with session shutdown;
    alter database commit to switchover to standby with session shutdown

    In addition, when I want to apply the remaining steps (below step), can I do it on every single instance? or is it all still to do using srvctl command:

    alter database mount standby database;

    Hello

    Since you are using 2 primary CCR node, so for the failover operation, you need to stop
    instance (instance 2 assuming) database.

    Assume your node1:
    host name is dcpdb1

    host name is dcpdb2

    and Eve hostname is drpdb1

    Then follow these steps for the digital switchover .

  • Convert a single instance of Rac

    Hello experts, I have already configured a database cluster between two nodes with a RAC database named cars. I also have a database to single instance named people in the first of the nodes. Now I need to convert this single (Persons) instance in a Rac database, I want to have two database RAC (cars and the new people).

    Thank you much in advance.

    Oracle provides following methods to convert a single at the RAC instance database:

    Grid control
    DBCA
    Manual
    RCONFIG (from 10 g 2)

    see this link:
    http://www.Oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/chan_sing2rac_install.html (Manual Method)
    http://oracleinstance.blogspot.com/2009/12/convert-single-instance-to-RAC-instance.html (rconfig Method)

    http://oracleinstance.blogspot.com/2010/07/converting-single-instance-to-RAC.html (using DBCA)

    to convert your asm file system use RMAN:
    Reference: to convert the files no - asm asm files by following the steps as indicated in the link

  • Upgrade or install fresh to 11g RAC 10 GB Single Instance base data?

    What are the benefits of taking a server Oracle 10 g clone and carry it to the node two ORACLE RAC?

    I think I could do the following:
    1. install and configure Oracle Clusterware
    2. install and configure the software database only
    3. get a database of clone of 10 g (database file, init.ora, trace controlfile.
    4. apply the database 10 g of Clone on the Oracle RAC 11 g database waiting it to be accessible from both nodes

    The other Option
    1. install the Oracle 10 g database software in the new environment
    2. get a clone of 10 g production database and apply to the new development environment
    3. install the software of database 11 g only
    4. turn to level 10 g single instance of database 11 g single instance
    5. install and configure the cluster 11 g clusterware
    6 move the single instance of 11 g to 11 g RAC

    When it is maybe a good idea to add DSO for this implementation? Your ideas are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello
    If you have 3 business applications, so it is good to have 3 diff for all 3 applications services it will however help only if you have multi RAC node where you have the flexibility to define the services running on specific nodes so now two node RAC, it will not be very different.

    That your goal is both fault-tolerance, I suggest you create a service with a favorite and one available to get load balancing server side, select also load_balance = yes and failover_on on the entry of TNS to switch client-side client-side.

    I hope you know for failover, only queries select are get toggled if method = select. DML is not supported for failover and you have to manage with DML failover demand only.

    Please check my blog for more details on the RAC load balancing, failover and services below.

  • DEV and quality assurance within the oracle single instance

    We have our DEV and QA in a single instance of oracle. Scripts that refer to table in DEV names will be copied on to QA DEV quality assurance tests for unit tests at the end. DEV, extract us data from 5 source systems, one for each State of the United States, which use the same application, so the names of the source tables are identical, and so in our staging area we have a scheme by the State such as TX, GA, MD and we extract data in tables that are identical to the staging tables. As cross us the aggregation state our scripts should refer to TX.employee and GA.employee in the same sql statement.

    What is the best design for this using SCHEMAS, DATABASES VIRTUAL PRIVATE, VIEWS, SYNONYMS etc.?

    Just for my knowledge, if I found myself in this situation of VIRTUAL PRIVATE databases would make sense here?

    I guess that you could possibly use VPD. But it would create major problems if you have always wanted to make schema changes - you could not add a new column to a table in DEV, for example, without this column is also available in AQ. You could not have code in DEV that does not exist in QA. I guess you could really get fancy and use g 11 edition redefinition to have an edition of dev and qa edition but I wouldn't think how to promote prod code in this kind of environment. In addition, editions is a characteristic of the company (at least, I'm not sure if it is an extra cost option) which would tend to be beyond the solvency of the company trying to save on licensing costs by combining dev & qa in a single server non - VM (and even less in the same instance).

    You may have your application use any dynamic SQL so that dev could use the DEV_TX while QA scheme used the QA_TEX schema and it was only the schema of TX in prod, but that obviously never gets old very quickly. You can create a single set of synonyms the synonym TX_FOO points to DEV_TX. FOO for users of dev and TEST_TX. FOO for test users, but then you will have to remove qualifiers to schema of all your SQL queries.

    In short, an application like you describe trying to share an instance would be a pretty massive undertaking.

  • Protect the single instance Oracle 11 g 2 with Clusterware linux No 11 GR 2 RAC

    Hi all

    I saw this link, but he mentions CARS as a solution:

    Use of Oracle Clusterware to protect a single Instance Oracle Database 11g

    I have seen various articles on protection one instance with cold recovery using clusterware, but they mention the scripts and the old versions of Clusterware. I'm trying to figure if possible to incorporate the virtual IP / scanning of listeners or if it is still a supported configuration...

    I implemented the 11 GR 2 using OCFS2 clusterware. Basically I just want cold failover from one node to another, and I don't want to buy a CAR license...

    Thank you very much

    Published by: vcovco on Sep 30, 2010 13:52

    Hi Vcovco,

    You must understand, that a VIP (host) works correctly for Oracle in conjunction with a listener to listen on the virtual IP address.
    Now, if a VIP (host) fails over to another node, the local listener won't. So even if you can ping the VIP no client can make connections. This VIP, since there is no listener listening on this VIP on the foreign host. (But the client will get a denunciation pronto to browse more through his address list).
    However, SCAN VIPs work differently, because they have an earpiece connected to them, which will also fail over to another node. This is why permits be accepted, if current running on the other node (as the listener moves with the SWEEP VIP).

    That is why in the past, you had to create a VIP 'user' and a 'user' listener, that there will be a changeover of the two (not like the Oracle of VIP welcome). A VIP SCAN done exactly that, it is not necessary for a 'user' VIP and the listener (However it still work!).

    a.) every DBA should make backups using RMAN in the meantime...
    (b) there is also a copy of asmcd command

    With regard to the advantages over OCFS2
    -best performance (almost RAW)
    -easier to extend (no need to resize)
    -no hot spots if storage is extended, because storage is automatically rebalanced.
    See here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/asm/db-tuning-guesswork-173710.pdf
    -consolidation easier
    To name a few.

    Another thing no one mentions:
    With OCFS2, you have a second clusterware running on the server. OCFS2 has its own mechanism of fencing.
    We must therefore consider some things more 'correlate' fencing OCFS2 and fencing OCW. Not that differently, they decide on what node restart.

    So my advice is: keep it simple. Use only the 1 clusterware.

    And last but not least: ASM now has a system of files ACFS

  • instance unique manual standby for a three-node RAC database

    Hi all

    I wonder how it is possible to create a database of manual standby for a primary database of the cars.
    Version Oracle's standard edition 11.1.
    I have experience of creation and manual management waiting for the single instance of database; I wonder if and how I can load the database one-time Eve to discover and apply the three sons to redo that I copy from the main site to the backup site.

    Can I use rman to catalog all the newspapers archived on the backup site?
    Configure several LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n settings to point to the many different path, one for each primary instance (one for each redo thread) and let rman automagically discover all logs archived?
    Do I only configure LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1, put archivelogs of all threads in the same folder and let the rman automagically discover all logs archived?

    Thanks for any answer!

    Andrea

    Hello

    Indeed, I added the newspaper archive transferred before the recovery process.

    During testing, I think (iirc) I have been unable to recover from the archivelogs transferred without catalog them all first. But this statement is out of my mind, I'm not 100% sure to do this, sorry.

    More details.

    Because it is a standard edition, I have to use on the side of the RAC ASM. So our normal scripts to transfer the day before primary archivelogs are obsolete.
    So I decided to put the thing all odds in the database. The primary database now uses the external Scheduler tasks to do the job. The side watch does not use ASM, so there is no need to maintain the logs in any special way.

    The steps are:

    1. get CNS primary and backup
    2 transfer the logs to the ASM gap on "normal" filesystem
    3. transfer (and compress, if not LAN) to watch archive dest
    4 catalogue side sleep
    5 back side sleep
    6 remove the normal file system (on both sides, but waiting in 2 days just to be sure)

    The steps on the side of the watch are both using the primary RCS of step 1 as a parameter to avoid error messages for the catalog or retrieve the call.
