  If Firefox is ignorant preference browser.newtab.url, the usual culprit is an extension.

  You can open the page in Firefox Add-ons using either:

  Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you remove Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

  The add-on preceding can make some pop-up windows to open in new tabs instead. If you don't want pop - up opens automatically to all, you can set the preference dom.popup_allowed_events to a blank value in Subject: config. You can then open the blocked pop-ups by clicking on the notification icon on the right side of the address bar.
