Open the link in BrowserField

Hi all

I do an application that has an advertisement inside and I loaded the HTML code that is returned by the advertising provider in a field correctly (I use pre 5.0).  The area is very simple HTML that contains an image and a link.  When I click on the link in the Add box, I have the option to 'Open link' in the context menu, but clicking on it not done nothing, is - anyone runs into this problem?  I saw a post here: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Java-Development/BrowserField-open-links-in-actual-browser/m-...  but I'm really looking for a solution that is pre 5.0.

Thank you!
Devon

  • Can I set my preferences in 42 of Firefox to open the link in a new tab

I've recently updated for Firefox 42.
I used to be able to set my preferences so that whenever I click on a link or bookmark it open in a new tab (rather that "crush" the tab/window I am). Is it possible to configure this in 42? How?

    Thank you

Hi, not easy! You know that you can hold the CTRL key while clicking on the left, or do a right click > open link in a new tab.

I suggest you only look to the add-on Open the link in new tab. Also Tab Mix more.

See also Open bookmarks in a new tab , which I use myself.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

  • 'Open the link in a new tab' does not work. I tried with all disabled add-ons and it still does not work.

When I right-click a link and select 'open in a new tab' and 'opens in a new window', nothing happens. In addition, nothing happens when I type a query in the search bar and press ENTER. I tried to restart firefox in safe mode and disabling all add-ons, but the problems continue.

The setting in "tools > Options > tabs: open new windows in a new tab instead" is for links that specify a target window (for example, target = _blank) to open the link.
This option allows to divert these links into a new tab instead of a new window.
Links that do not specify a target always open in the current tab, unless you redefine that with a middle-click or Ctrl (Mac: Cmd) left click (new tab) or a left click UPDATE (new window) or via the context menu.

You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser\searchplugins file in the Firefox program folder.

If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

Try to delete the file search.json and possible search - metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the default search engines.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

Firefox will rebuild the file search.json from the default search engines in the folder "browser\searchplugins" in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • MouseWheel will not open the link in a new tab

I used to be able to click on a link with my mousewheel and Firefox opens the link in a new tab. It has stopped working.

I use Windows 7 Pro and Firefox 36.0.1

Should what settings I check. Windows looks OK, I use the same mouse and it has stopped working on web sites where this technique used to work until a few days ago.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

    • Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe
  • When I long press on a link, in addition to opening a box of context, it also opens the link in this window. How can I get JUST the context window appears?

I'm an avid user of pocket and I like to scroll through the different blog sites and save articles to read later. In general, I have been using Google Chrome browser that forces me to open each section in a different tab and then share this article to the Pocket to save him. I was delighted when I found the firefox browser has worked very well and even supported Add ons. I decided to try it, but have encountered a major problem. When I press a link to share, instead of a context window appear and the site remains the same, a context window opens while the site loads the link. When I right click on a link in my browser, it does not mean I want to go to this link, so I do not know why the same procedure would cause the mobile browser to do so. Is there a way I can press a link without having to open the link in this tab?

Well, it's silly, but it's the best I could come up with:

I tested this on Gizmodo: when the menu press and hold appears, instead of lifting the finger pointing upwards, slide it downwards a little, right next to the link, before you lift your finger on the glass. Then the script on the page detects a "mouse up" (or equivalent event) on the link. It works for you?

I know that you cannot see the link in the menu, but one or two lines of text height will usually do.

Would probably be wise for Firefox cancel all events associated with touching the link once the menu is displayed. Or to make sure that the site includes as a right-click (that seems more difficult). I have not checked to see if ideas along these lines have been filed in the bug tracking system.

Edit: Tested on a Nexus 5 (LG).

  • Middle mouse button opens the link in the TWO tabs

Like many users, I started only problems with Firefox since the onslaught of updates began. For the most part, they disappeared with newer versions, or are minor annoyances.

MY PROBLEM: When I use the middle button of the mouse to open a link, it now opens the link to the top in two separate tabs. This started after the upgrade to version 29 only and did not immediately (perhaps a few days). I just updated to 29.0.1, who did nothing with regard to the question of fixing.

It is not the mouse, because I can open Chrome, find a link, use the middle mouse button and get only a tab.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. An update since then has actually fixed all the problems except one. Now I'm trying to get the downloads to open in a tab, but only an extension seems to fix this...

  • Why control by clicking now launch the link in a new tab (which it is supposed to) and open the link in the current tab as well.

I've just updated the 13.0.1 and immediately noticed on www.rottentomatoes.com when you hold down the control key and click with the mouse it not only opens a new tab with this link which is what I want. It also opens the link in the tab that I've watched. Now the SHIFT key to launch the link in a new session did the same thing. Launches the new session and opens the link in the existing session.

I'm looking at this particular site:
    http://www.rottentomatoes.com/top/bestofrt/?year=2011

Excessive use of unnecessary spaces is there in the code of the page.

It happens in Firefox 3.6.x and Google Chrome as well.

  • CTRL-SHIFT-click to open the link in a new tab (v10)

I came back to Firefox recently after trying to use Chrome for a while. I welcome my return, except that in the update of v9 to v10, I found one of my favorite keyboard shortcuts no longer work as he had.

In v9 and precedent, Ctrl-Shift-click opens a link in a new tab and switched to it immediately. V10, Ctrl-Shift-click still opens the link in a new tab, but does not pass, even with Options: tabs: when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately enabled.

When you use the mouse to open a link in a new tab, it switches on it immediately as expected.

I thought I was going to have to live with it (or not), but then to find some documentation noting that Ctrl-click now offers the functionality I was used to.

Great! However, backward compatibility with old features could save me some temporary disappointment and some additional research.

BTW, I noted in another post several of the reasons why I returned to Firefox from Chrome.

Two key combinations seem to work in Firefox 8, 9. and 10 for me.

Change when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately from disabled to enabled reverse functions {Ctrl + click} and {Ctrl + Shift + click}.

  • Shortcuts mouse to "Open the link in a new tab" help "Middle-click on the link" does not work on 10.0.1

Shortcut of mouse to "Open the link in a new tab" help "Middle-click on the link" does not work on 10.0.1, it worked on version 9.0.1.

Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance/themes).

  • My system won't open any link in a program to the internet, but rather opens the 'link' in windows 2010 as a word program. I need to repair this urgent problem.

Example: When I click on go to update or verify the update I get a word version of the Web page.  He did not go to my browser and connect to the internet, as it has before.  I seem to have damaged Windows 7 in a certain way and need to fix it, preferably without wiping the entire system by doing a restore or recovery.

    Thanks to you all.
