  If you have not saved the document before the reboot - and Windows always give a lot of warning before restarting automatically - while the file disappeared.  There is no way to recover; System Restore does apply to system files, not data.

• Why 2 partitions of OS on HP dv9628 laptop computer under Vista Home Premium?

  I was just checking my wife of the older HP Pavilion dv9628nr under Vista Home Premium with 2 HARD drives.  I didn't even know he had 2 HARD drives.  I opened the case to make sure.

  Here is a screenshot of disk for system management.  I have a few questions:

  1. Why is there a system operating on each HARD drive partition?

  2 are 2 necessary and deleted maybe?

  

  Generally however, the C: drive is not always your primary. This may change if based on the installation program. The installer in this book, could be Raid. This is where the 2 drives are used to create a combined drive. Based on the laptop being adverstised as a drive of 240 GB, but with 2 120 GB drives in it. This is most likely how it was setup. To know for sure you'd have to check to see if this feature is enabled in the BIOS.  Before you change any settings that you would like to make sure that you have recovery discs and backed up all the content. As having the OS on a single disk, you will need to disable Raid in bios and probably to format both drives. Then reinstall the operating system on you get (the one listed as C:, to avoid complications).

  If you upgrade to Windows Vista, one of the things that you may find is that your older programs works under Vista. Many software publishers are working to release Vista compatible versions, but in the meantime, you can try running in Compatibility Mode applications.

  To do:

  1. open Windows Explorer.
  2. Locate the executable file of the application.
  3. right click on the executable, and then click the properties option.
  4. Select the Compatibility tab.
  5. Select run this program in Compatibility Mode option.
  6. in the drop-down list, choose the operating system that you ran before upgrading to Vista.
  7. If necessary, select run the program as administrator.
  8. click on OK.

  You must open a binary file when you open Notepad.

  Right-click on the icon Notepad - Properties - Shortcut tab - line target - what's after the

  Ok... I have a computer 3 years top of the windows vista Desktop Edition home page. Now, I'm doing a power point/slide and save on my USB key and take it to the school to make the presintation on a windows xp and xp can not open it. So, I email my Professor the power point/slides from my vista as an attachment on her windows xp computer. She can read the email, but windows xp does not open the attachemt. I've had many people tell me that they have the same problem with the old programs from the window open the attachments of vista. What's up with that? I'm ready to go back to my old windows xp program. Help!

  Its nothing to do with your version of win, in order to open an attachment of office nor the version of Office must be installed on the PC of recipients or they would need the free viewer for MS
  So if you have Office 2007 and send a doc office 2007, the recipient either requires Office 2007 installed on their PC or they need the free viewer for Office 2007

• upgrading to windows 7 and lost bookmarks - the location/name of file would be under Vista so I can find it?

  I have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 - Favorites IE installs fine but not the bookmarks of Fire Fox. What the name and the location was under Vista so I can search the hard drive for them. Yes I should have saved them but until it's too late for that now.

  They are stored in a file called places.sqlite in the profile folder. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox for more details about the location of the profile folder

  The profile folder is normally hidden, make sure you have configured Windows to display the hidden files and folders.
