upgrading to windows 7 and lost bookmarks - the location/name of file would be under Vista so I can find it?
I have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 - Favorites IE installs fine but not the bookmarks of Fire Fox. What the name and the location was under Vista so I can search the hard drive for them. Yes I should have saved them but until it's too late for that now.
They are stored in a file called places.sqlite in the profile folder. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox for more details about the location of the profile folder
The profile folder is normally hidden, make sure you have configured Windows to display the hidden files and folders.

Upgrading to Windows 7 and lost my shortcuts and Outlook files
Upgrading to Windows 7 Premium to find my deleted and Outlook shortcuts wanting to be "configured". Dude... where's my stuff? I thought the upgrade would not "retarded" my files or I would not have paid for the upgrade. Help, please.
It's what you're looking for the folder Windows.old XP ROCKS mentioned would have a file Outlook.pst.
Where the Outlook.pst file?
Note: Change the Windows Explorer option to see the Windows.old folder:
Click on start and enter in the box "Search": "hidden" (without the quotes)
Click on the "Show the hidden files and folders" option at the top of the list.
In the "Folder Options" window
Click the 'view' if it is not already selected.
In the list "Advanced settings" locate "hidden files and folders".
Now click 'show files and folders '.
Then, disable the following:
"Hide empty drives in the computer folder.
"Hide the extensions of the file types that you want to know."
"Hide protected operating system files"Click on the "Apply" button and the OK"" button.

IM using Windows XP Profesional, can I upgrade to Windows 7 and what would be the cost?
upgrade windows xp to windows 7
IM using windows xp profesional can I upgrade to windows 7 and what would be the cost? what I have to put all my files on an external drive then uninstall windows xp then put in windows 7 then put back my files? is that how its done? Thank you.First the cost, you must know if your hardware can support Windows 7
In General win 7 should a minimum og 1 gig of ram (for 32 bit) or 2 for 64-bit, and it needs a video card 256 MB or greater.
If your less and can not be updated it may be best to start thinking about a new computer.
If the above is ok there are various offers for win 8, but make sure you buy form a reliable site of Ms. There are a lot of current scams.
Good luck

I bought a laptop tailor-made and it turns out that there is a counterfeit Windows xp version. I want to upgrade to windows 7 instead of buy the version xp again. is this possible?
You will need to purchase a full commercial copy of Windows 7 and do a clean install. You cannot use a Windows XP hacked as an operating system that you are eligible for an upgrade. Make sure that there are Windows 7 drivers for the hardware of the laptop. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

I have an old Dell Inspiron 15 with Vista Home Premium and want to switch to the window of 10. Y at - it a link to the free update or I must first upgrade to Windows 7 and upgrade them to Windows 10? Or could it be the Windows 10 Pro?
The free offer of Windows 10 is not available for Vista. You need to upgrade to Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1.

I have an OEM of Windows Vista version on a dying computer. Can I buy the upgrade for Windows 8 and install it on the new PC, I'm building? The upgrade, is published at the same time as I'm rebuilding my PC. I'm just looking to replace my OS. I need Vista.
Hello
OEM license is tied to the first machine that is installed on the OEM license dies when this machine dies.
An OEM license is not transferable.
And you need a legal edition of Windows, enabled for upgrade.
There is no use, you buy a license upgrade of Windows 8 by itself as you have to upgrade anything of in the new computer, you build...
You can buy a license of Windows 8 when it comes out later this year.
See you soon.

If you want to upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7, you won't lose iTunes music library. However, there is a chance of losing the music of iTunes library if you choose custom installation.
You can see the Microsoft article for more information on the upgrade:

I try to upgrade to Windows 10 and downloading still failing. I get the following error message: 802400B, which means that it can not read one of the files required to download (update manifest). The recommended windows fix did not work. What should I do? Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
You can try the upgrade manually:
Task of pre-required

then
- Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
- Reboot several times, and then try again.
- Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
- If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
- Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
- If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
- If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.
- If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
- If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account.
- If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).

I want to uninstall the upgrade of windows 7 and go back to Vista.
This device comes preinstalled with Vista so that I only have the recovery disks that I made when I first set up the computer. How can I uninstall the upgrade of windows 7 and reinstall Vista?
BogeyB,
If you have made a real upgrade (overlay on Vista), you might be surprised. Click on the computer and open the D Recovery drive. Open the folder named Recovery. Look at the bottom left corner.
What is the date of creation? Mine is from 2007. I do not superimpose WIN 7 until 2011, but the recovery is still 2007.
It's actually your full version of Vista recovery... it didn't get deleted or altered, except if you did.
