Opening Office 2000 .doc in windows 8

How can I open a .doc created in office 2000 windows xp pro with the new computer with windows 8?

Thank you!

Keith

What about office 2000 .xls, windows xp? Is there a viewer for that?

Think education allows you to use a search engine might be in order...

If you visit http://www.google.com/ and in the search box type in what you need (plain English - or other language you prefer) and click the "Google search" button - you will get the results that generally will lead to your answer.

For example - I copied and pasted your real question - as you typed - in Google search and here is the result:
https://www.Google.com/#q=what+about+.xls+from+Office+2000+Windows+XP%3F+is+there+a+viewer+for+that%3F

The second "hit" (search results) the list is as follows:
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=10

Which is exactly what you need.  ;-)

Once again - it is SIMPLY a viewer - you can not change/save.

Oh - and just to clarify: Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows are separate product lines.  The first is a 'suite' of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, One Note, Outlook, Access, etc.) which is for the management of document and spreadsheet/database / presentation / emails & calendar/etc.  This last is what runs on a computer and allows you to run things like Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, etc.

Hope that helps!

* smile * in case that you were going to ask...

What email program are you using? I can't think a reasonv why you are not be allowed to save the attachment. If you could, it would be easy to associate with the term.

  • When you try to open a Word doc in windows document library error 7: "problems to send a command to the program". How this can be fixed. I can't open all the Word documents in a document library.

I got all my docments from an external hard disk on a new computer with windows 7 drag-and - drop. I used Windows XP before.

    See if that helps.

Right-click on the Word icon, choose Properties, click the shortcut tab, click Advanced, and if the "Run as Admin" is checked. If this is the case, clear the check box.

  • Since installing open Office 4.0 I can't open .doc files on the fly, used to work before.

I've recently upgraded to Open Office 4.0. Now can't open Thunderbird .doc attachments. Can I download the disk and open in Open Office Writer with food office or Windows Explorer in the usual way. I checked the tools/options/attachments and it is set to Open Office Writer. I think that's not relevant, but when I had Open Office 3.0, I've had writer defined as a separate program, but now I use just the master front-end server.

Works OK with .pdf or .jpg files.

just remove the entry from the windows of the spare part and then try and open a doc file. The entry will be recreated using your answers.

I'm guessing that the existing Writer is not the correct writer.

  • Indexing options and search for Windows 7 are not locate content of the document since "update" Open Office 3.3 3.4 (he worked for 2 years before that)?

I have Win 7 with Service Pack 1. I have "updated my Open Office 3.3 to 3.4 and now Win 7 search and options DO NOT locate my document content indexing more? I contacted the support of Open Office: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=55483

They claim that: "indexing and search in Windows 7 are performed by Windows 7", so there is a problem with Win 7 search and indexing options.

I checked the indexing options in Windows 7 and the "Index Properties and content of the file" is selected for ALL the 'odt' as well as all the files 'o'.

I set up a test document: I put only one word "Wednesday" in the Open Office text document, saved and it called "text". I am looking for Wednesday and the search comes up with two other documents containing the word Wednesday in them, but not the Test document?

I just discovered something. When I did the 'Test' experience above, the file was saved in format 'odt' a:. I changed it to a ".doc" file and it now appears in the search results. As mentioned above, I've changed ALL the files starting with the letter 'o' in Indexing Options > Advanced Options > Types of files to the article: 'properties Index and contents of the file. The description of filter for files 'odt' comes back as: "IFilter shop OpenOffice IFilter" where as 'doc' filter is listed as a: «Filter Microsoft Office» Is it a "Boutique OpenOffice IFilter IFilter: issue" Blocking "the documents appear in the search results? If so, how should I do (I mean in addition to all the documents 'odt' replacing 'doc'?

Just to clarify: document names 'odt' come to a search, but not the content document.

  • I tried to open a Word doc attachment in my email and get a window stating "Creating an Adobe PDF file"

When I try to open an attachment in my email Word doc I get a dialog box saying "Create Adobe PDF, PDFMaker missing files, you want to run the installer in repair mode?"   I tried not to convert a word in a PDF doc daughter.  I just tried to open the word document.  The next window that appears is the Adobe Acrobat window.  If I want to open a word doc file that I received in my email I first have to register the word doc on my desk open my program Word, then drag the Word doc recorded from my office to the document that is open in Word. program.  It started just in the last few months.  Never happened before.  What is happening here?

Apparently, you tried to open a DOC file to PDF quite awhile, and your system is confused. In any case, go to a DOC or DOCX file (or both) in the Windows Explorer and right click. Select open with and select WORD - always check open with button.

Check that the other WORD documents open correctly from the Explorer. Try again your e-mail address. If e-mail is not fixed, then look in the list of applications in your email inbox (some do) and fix the problem here. It might also be useful by turning on the display of extensions in Explorer, so you can see that a file is in fact a word with the appropriate extension. (just try to cover as many opportunities as possible now).
