openSuse 11.2 Guest - it connects to the outside, nothing can connect to it

Help.  I did a little research and see nothing on this sort begins this thread.  I have XP sp3 as the host (32 bit) and openSuse 11.2 64 bit guest.  Vmware 7.0.  So I did a default installation of openSuse 11.2 as a guest, it installed fine.  I put her to the bridged network.  By default, it seems to have installed dhcp, that is fine.  Thus, linux guest system can connect to other resources on my local network and internet, so, it seems, networking is also a fine configuration.  In addition, I ping the linux system invited the host and all the other machines on my network.

HOWEVER, I am trying to run apache or glassfish in my linux system.  I know they are run properly, because I can start them and then open and connect to the latter via the firefox browser in the guest operating system.  However, NO other computer on my LAN can somehow (other then ping) to connect to the system called linux.  Any port or ulr I use.  If I didn't know better I'd swear there is a firewall installed and functioning as a default in the linux prompt.  However, from what I understand from others who made the installation of openSuse 11.2 even deafult tell me, this is ridiculous - there is no default firewall not installed with openSuse, so that it cannot be.  So I have no idea.  I've used several other windows guest operating system and they all work very well and can be access by other systems on the network (assuming I have set them as bridged).  So I don't really think it is inherent in vmware to change a setting, but there may be a special set of hoops you have to jump through to get a linux system works properly in a vmware guest.

ANY ideas?  I am at a loss and unfortunately am not at all a linux expert.

I think that comments firewall is turn on. Try to stop it and then try connecting to another customer. $/etc/init.d/SuSEfirewall2 stop or find the firewall script in /etc/init.d

  • two virtual machines on esxi, vm linux server can ping and ping to the outside, windows can ping but incoming requests timeout

    Hello

I have an ESXI server with two network cards, each connected to separate the subnet in the same Cisco switch.

First interface is in 10.231.5.0/255.255.255.0 and the second is 192.168.118.0/255.255.255.0

Initially, I built a virtual machine with MS Windows 2003 R2 Standard with two network interfaces with static IP addresses on both subnets. 10.231.5.153(Gateway configuré sur cette carte réseau) and 192.168.118.153.  It has also installed vm tools.

Second built vm is Ubuntu 8.10 with two network interfaces and two static IP a linux server in each subnet. This virtual machine has never had no problem contacted subnets one bit and he can go out on all of the subnets that are routable through the switch. Static IP addresses are 10.231.5.152(gateway est configuré sur cette carte réseau) and 192.168.118.152

The Windows virtual machine has always been a bit flaky. Sometimes he would not be able to ping on all interfaces (while the State of the network in Windows showed the incoming and outgoing packets).  Sometimes he could ping another Vm and ESXI management IP but could not ping to the outside on the network 10.231.5.0 or 192.168.118.0. Deactivation and activation of network interfaces seem to make a difference with outgoing network access is enabled. However, if I try to ping back part of the same subnet a machine outside the ESXI Server ping timeout. It's weird as after having activated a deactivation of the network interface, that he even manages to ping subnets a bit far, but pingees machines cannot he ping back. However, these machines have no problem ping to the management of ESXI or Linux VM interface. Restart the machine virtual Windows translates the EPS of no longer being able to ping up to deactivation and activation of cards network again.

I tried to activate the Promiscuous (the Accept value) mode on computer management virtual and vSwitch (vmnic1 and vmnic0 appear in the collection of NETWORK adapters window), but it did make a difference.

Pointers would be very much appreciated.

  • How can I connect to my webserver VM from the outside?

I'm sure that there is an easy solution for this, but I searched without success.

I run a Web server on FreeBSD in Fusion, and my Mac uses DHCP (static address can come in time).

My VM (fusion 2.0.1) is connected through NAT, I also use my Mac as a local server for testing, but only to listen on 127.0.0.1

    Here's my question simply:

My FreeBSD runs Apache and is set up to serve the site (example.com, say) and DNS settings are all up to date. (I know that the BSD Web server works fine because I can connect from Safari using the merger IP address directly).

Now if from the outside (you, for example), type http://example.com/ in your browser, connect to my Mac via port 80 and Apache on my Mac will attempt to server web page. But what I really want, it's demand to go on the virtual machine without going through the Mac. (In analogies, there is a setting that allows some ports go 'on' the virtual machine, but merging doesn't seem to have it - I promise to change the merger, because it works best with FreeBSD).

    So in short:

How to configure my machine Virtual Port 80, rather than the Mac doing listening to?

    MacGruder says:

So in short: How do I set up my VM to Port 80, rather than the Mac doing listening to?

I introduce it more as a proof of concept, then a full step by step guide because there are many variables and you did not really a complete topology of your local network and other relevant information to be explicit and accurate on a total scope of the project.

Good on my MBP without Apache running in OS X and a Virtual Machine of defined merger on NAT with Apache running on the client, I modified the nat.conf and reset the VMware network and was able to directly access Web Server of the customer from another physical Machine on my local network.

OS X host IP address: 192.168.1.100

Merge comments NAT IP address: 172.16.172.128

Another physical Machine on the LAN IP address: 192.168.1.3

    Named Fusion comments: webtest

Installed the Apache server in comments and editing the web page by default so you can be sure I look what I expect to be looking at and not the host content of the Apache server.

    Stop and closed Fusion comments

    Edited "/ Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/vmnet8/nat.conf" and added 80 = 172.16.172.128:80

    Restarted network VMware with: sudo "/ Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/boot.sh"-restart

    Open fusion and began comments

Editing another physical Machine on the LAN hosts file to add: 192.168.1.100 webtest webtest.com www.webtest.com

Browser open on another physical Machine on LAN and typed http://www.webtest.com

Now, I'm looking at the modified Apache file index.html.en default server prompt so it allows me to know that I can access a Web server on the Guest NATed through the Port 80 of the host of another system other then the host.

    Notes:

Personal firewall should of course be properly defined to allow connectivity between the systems.

If you what the outside world can then access if your host doesn't have a static IP address, then you will need to use a form any Dynamic DNS on the host computer.

It is in any case just to let you know it is possible and it's just one of the ways of May to go on this subject and without all the relevant information, I don't have the time to enter in other scenarios.

    Hope that helps!

  • "nothing can be sent from the Office" when you try to print

Original title: the problem of office printing

Windows 8: I can't print anything.  He said: "nothing can be sent from the office.  Two hours ago, it was printing.  It happened once before and I accidentally found something clicked, active summer and it worked again.  They make it almost impossible to find! I can't find this time and so cannot print.  Where can I activate "the workstation sending" on my printer please.  I hate Windows 8!  Thank you.

    Hello

-You use the devices option in the charms bar to select the printer and then print whatever it is?

The message 'Nothing can be sent from the Office' means simply that you must do this from the 'Start' screen or in an app Store instead of from the "desktop". If you get "Has nothing to send right now" the splash screen or the app Store, then this means that you don't have any external device (ex: projector, printer, etc.) connected to send anything to, or the application does not support.

Here is a work around that you can try.

If you try to print from a program like MS word or notepad, and then press the CTRL key and the P key to access the printer Options. You will find the printer that is installed on the computer.

Navigate through the steps of troubleshooting provided in http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/devices-nothing-can-be-sent-from-this-desktop/532f81de-435d-4121-a9e3-2ed57a1bf31a

  • How can I disable the guest user to close the PC while the Admin is connected?

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate. I found out how to disable the guest user closing at all via the local security policy, but then they can't stop even if the Admin account is offline.

To clarify a bit, say I want to give my PC to someone, I usually click on change user and connect using the guest account. In this way, they can't access my account because it asks for a password. I want that in such a case, they should not be able to stop the PC as my admin account is always logged.

However, if someone booted the PC themselves and use the guest account, then they should be able to close too, as my Admin account has not been connected.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate. I discovered how to disable the guest user closing all through local security policy.

It is the correct method. It is as robust as it is unconditional.

If you want to have your cake and eat it the guest account must use a powerful "agent" to perform the functions of judgment. A scheduled task would be such an agent. It might work as follows:

    1. Create a scheduled task that runs Script1 to perform these tasks:
-Check if the C:\Shutdown\Shutdown.txt file exists.
-If not, the output of the script.
-If this is the case, delete Shutdown.txt.
-Check if there is an administrator session. If so, the output of the script.
S ' there is no live administrator session, shut down the computer by using shutdown.exe.
The task must run under an administrator account once every 3 minutes.
    2. Create a shortcut on the desktop for the Guest user calling Script2 for these tasks:
-Check if there is an administrator session.
-If this is the case, create a pop-up to inform the user that the machine cannot be stopped.
-If it is not, create the C:\Shutdown\Shutdown.txt file. The scheduled task will 'see' this file and will stop the machine.
  • WAP321 captive portal - impossible to set up the guest network connection

    Hello community.

I use two WAP321 with the latest Firmware (1.0.6.2) in a cluster.

Both are connected to a switch SG300-10 (FW: 1.4.1.3) in Mode of L3.

The switch is connected to a router RV130 (FW: 1.0.2.7).

The router has Inter-VLAN-routing active and static routes for my VLANS configured.

To one of the Interfaces of the router is a connected DNS/DHCP server that manages the resolution of names and the dynamic distribution of IP4 for my network.

In my network, I have different VLAN for customers, management, server, test and the WLAN clients.

    So far so good.

I have install on the WAP321 cluster, an intern (VAP0) and a guest WLAN (VAP1) using the Setup Wizard.

Delivery of DHCP and DNS lookups are ok for two wireless LANs.

Settings WAP VLAN and IP4 address are:

    -untagged VLAN: enabled

    -untagged VLAN ID: e.g. 3

-Management VLAN ID: the same without tag VLAN ID

-IPv4 parameters are static in the ip range of the VLAN untagged

-DNS server are set to manual for a server in VLAN 4 and to 8.8.8.8

My problem is that I can connect to the WLAN comments but I never get the captive portal login screen.

The First-Instance Association captive portal is set to VAP1.

The Configuration of the Instance in captivity 'Vérification' is located in the local.

A group and users are configured.

The customer obtain an IP address in the host IP address range VLAN and can search names and IPS, e.g. www.cisco.com.

If I try to open a Web site, and then I get the message that the server did not respond.

    Impatience on your part.

    Best regards

    Rainer.

That's great. I'm glad to hear that.

  • How is "Guest network" differs from the main network?

I just purchased and installed a refurbished Airport Express. Everything works fine. In the installation program, it gave me the opportunity to create a network of comments, which I did and it works. My question: How is this different guest network from my main network?

"Guests" that connect to the network comments can only access the Internet.  They cannot "see" devices on your main or private network.

So if you want to not "invited" to see your personal devices and possibly see your private data on your computer or computers on your private network... or... you don't want to give "guest" password to your network private... it makes sense to leave the 'invited' to use the guest network.

    Invoke-VMScript - ScriptText $script - VM $Hostname - HostUser $HostUser - HostPassword $HostPassword - GuestUser $GuestUser - GuestPassword $GuestPassword - ScriptType $ScriptType

    Thank you!

How you code the - VM on the Invoke-VMScript cmdlet parameter, it seems that Displayname of the guest is the same as the host name.

Can't you just use a loop on guests and then use the displayname property

    $script = "%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c c:\dr\drIPsettings.bat"
    $HostUser = "root"
    $HostPassword = "password"
    $GuestPassword = "password"

       Invoke-VMScript -ScriptText $script -VM $_ -HostUser $HostUser -HostPassword $HostPassword -GuestUser $GuestUser -GuestPassword $GuestPassword -ScriptType $ScriptType
    }

You can encode the Get - VM with more specific selection criteria or use a Where-Object after the Get - VM.

  • Migrate from VMware Guest Server that contains the database of VIC in the new VMware host

Hi, I inherited a system running ESX 3.0.1. The CIV is running on a stand-alone server, but the database resides on a guest on one of the VMware hosts. I need to move/migrate the vmware client to another server so I can use it. How can I migrate because if I try I'll lose the connection to the database?

I can not just to right and migrate because servers have different CPUs. I can first.

Sorry if this is a newbie question.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

  • No guest network connectivity

    Hello

I'm definitely a newbie so please bear with me.

I have just completed a new installation of ESXi 4. The host server has 1 NETWORK card that I have assigned a static ip address: 10.10.10.101 (255.255.255.0 subnet mask)

I installed 2 virtual machines. A Windows 2008 with a static ip address: 10.10.10.102 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0) and a windows 2003 server with a static ip address: 10.10.10.103 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0)

The server ESXi NETWORK card is connected to a switch which I also connected an other PC running windows XP (255.255.255.0 subnet mask ip address 10.10.10.2) on this machine, I run my VSphere client.

    OK, here's my problem:

My XP machine I can ping the host ESXi NIC but I get no response from network adapters on the virtual machines. When I connect to each of the virtual machines I only ping the NIC ESXi host I can't ping the machine XP or the other guest. So bacically everything can ping the physical card on the ESXi host, but that's all. Virtual machines cannot ping each other and neither can they ping all machines on the physical network.

My installation is completely standard, accepting all the defaults. A single virtual switch, a 'network of the VM' containing my two virtual machines, a "network Manangment" and a "physical map".

Any help or advice would be much appreciated. If you need more let me know.

    Magic,

First of all start by loggin on virtual machines and other machine to see if either may ping virtual.  I know you said that anything can ping the ESXi host adapter, but two virtual machines on the same virtual switch must be able to communicate with each other first.

If they cannot ping each other, but they can ping on the ESXi host, I suspect that you have the Windows Firewall on.  You can disable this control panel or by accessing services and slaughter the Windows Firewall Service.

Once, you can get the ESXi host and virtual machines to ping each other, then you can test the network outside the ESXi host connectivity.  Once again the XP machine can also have a firewall, so if you have the DNS server, the default gateway or something like www.google.com can be a better test.

    I hope this helps.

I see from time to time by my window a vehicle that is parked outside using their computer. Someone told me that they can connect to the internet using my wireless signal. How can I hide the outside user I have a wireless connection?

    Hello Maria,.

There are a few things you can do to make sure that you are safe.

#1. Make sure that your wireless modem is protected using a personal code to access WEP or WPA2. This is done by going to the configuration of your modem and the establishment under the wireless tab / link / article. Of the modem user manual must be able to guide them in this process.

#2. The other way is to disable the broadcasting network option in the modem. The only problem with this option, it is only people who are currently using the network can get on again.

I recommend establishing a password on your wireless network and in this way people can see your broadcast network, but they will not be able to get on it, unless they have the password.

    Hope this helps,

Restore to factory state out of the box. Can I install all updates from Microsoft using Windows update or can I install antivirus first before to connect to internet?

Currently Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 x 86 (no patches since 2008). Currently, it has no AV and has not been connected to the internet yet. It will be behind a router.

I had to redo the factory already reset after be connected to the net for 20 minutes and then a bunch of programs kept crashing saying Data Execution Prevention had to close the program StackHash and BEX error when executing update for HP drivers.

Maybe I installed Kaspersky first next time?

    What should I do?

No problem. Install the updates. You can install the anti-virus later.

  • Cisco ASA, connect an IP address on the OUTSIDE of the VPN remote access

    Hello

I tried to find resources on the net but could not find a solution, then post it here. Maybe someone can help.

So the problem is that I'm trying to access a server on the cloud for remote VPN access (cisco asa 5510).

The server on the cloud (54.54.54.54) is only accessible from the outside interface (192.168.11.2) NY Firewall (cisco asa 5510)

I added some ACE for this in the ACL of VPN tunnel to divide.

    NY-standard host allowed fw # access - list vpn_remote-customer 54.54.54.54

And I see the road added to my cliet machine after the VPN connection, but still it cannot connect to this server.

The network INTERIOR, I can connect to the server.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

This is most likely a problem with NAT hair/U-turn hairpin.

Will need to see the configurations or you would need to check yourself

I don't know what your version of the Software ASA is to be like who determines what is the format of NAT configuration.

So far, you have confirmed that the ASA VPN configuration provides the VPN Client with the route to the remote server. Then in circulation should be tunnel to the ASA.

Then, you will need to check the output of this command

    See the race same-security-traffic

You should see the command in the output below

    permit same-security-traffic intra-interface

If you do not, you will need to add it. This effect of controls is to allow traffic to enter an interface and exit through the same interface. In your case this applies to Internet VPN Client traffic to the remote server as it between ' outside ' and spell through the 'outside'.

Then, should ensure that dynamic PAT is configured for the VPN Clients.

    8.2 software (and below)

You most likely have a dynamic configuration PAT like that on the firewall, if levels of above running software version

    Global 1 interface (outside)

    NAT (inside) 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0

In this situation if we wanted to add dynamic PAT for a pool of VPN, we would add

    NAT (outside) 1

This would allow users to use the same public IP address as LAN users, when accessing the remote VPN server

    Software 8.3 (and above)

Because the NAT configuration format is completely different in the latest software, you could probably just add a new configuration of NAT completely without adding a

    network of the VPN-PAT object

    subnet

    dynamic NAT interface (outdoors, outdoor)

Of course, its possible that there could be some configuration NAT already on the device which could cause problems for this configuration. If this does not work then that we would have to look at the actual configurations on the ASA.

    Hope this helps
