  Why has Oracle, with its own product data warehouse then decided to buy Hyperion (Essbase)?

  In addition to what Glenn Essbase supports two add-ins Excel allowing ad-hoc analytical perforating the Essbase cube (s) by end-users that requires without having to write SQL.

  Users can also execute business logic via calculation scripts and trade rules directly with no intervention of a COMPUTER team.

  There is another product called Oracle | Hyperion Planning which makes the use of Essbase as is the unique calculation engine and it's a forecast and budget system with rich web input forms and supports the processes and workflow.

  They are completely different products and Essbase is one of the reasons that oracle bought Hyperion.

  Essbase supports also the very large cubes with its overall storage capacity with millions of members in dimensions.

  Pretty much all the time, it comes down to business processes and requirements. If you want to build a forecasting system, then use the Hyperion products (Essbase and planning). If all your data is already in the Oracle as Glenn says that the OLAP option sounds better.

  We have a requirement of scripts and automation of stream using ODI API and SDK. The requirement must use source ODI API and SDK to target cards in Excel (mapping map) is read and can use the SDK to create interfaces for Excel sheets. I am a novice to Groovy and Java script.   Well, the fundamental difference is hard to tell. ODI is based on so-called knowledge module. These are implementations for physical access to all type (among others) different database technologies. So ODI used to be more flexible data extraction technology of database different and also written their. But with 11.2 OWB, these knowledge modules have been integrated in owb under so-called model mappings. OWB has stronger integration with the Oracle database and Oracle database is still required. Plans of Oracle to integrate these two tools in one some day, whenever that will be. ODI offers more options for the quality of the data (which are charged extra).

  Technically speaking, both tools are not very different. They have different UIs anyway.

  A big difference is the license. A basic version of OWB is included with the license database, it can be used without extra charge. Most of our customers use this version, even for implementations of large dwh. If you buy'm license ETL (or already have one), you can use both tools.

  Before decide you on one of the tools, make sure you have enough staff with the right skills available - internal or external.

• Oracle Warehouse Builder and MySQL as a target for mappings

  its me again. Now with another problem.
  I use the Oracle Warehouse Builder 11.2.0.1 and MySQL 5.1.1. I have connected to MySQL, imported from all tables - well. Now, I would like to use the tables in Oracle 11 g as a source and MySQL tables as a target for my maps. Since there are different servers, I used the model mappings. The problem is I get the error during the deployment process. I even can't deploy/create simple tables for the MySQL module. So I was wondering if it is even possible to use MySQL as the target? Or can I just use MySQL as a source?

  It seems that the connectors are not deployed. The connector is at the location of the CCA to the location source or target used in your mapping. You can try to deploy the connectors of the CCM user interface, it will be deployed as J2EE data stores in the CCA. Thus, the name not found error, is the name within the CCA for the J2EE data store, deployment of the connector should solve that. They should be deployed automatically I think that it may therefore be that there is an error in deployment of connector, you need to check.

  The mysql JDBC driver you copied into the appropriate directory for the CCA before the CCA?

  I have a requirement as follows:
  
  Requirement:
  We must create a Reporting DB to be used for information and a transactional database will be in separate host. Fundamentally, he need to extract data from a set of transactional DB tables and move to the Reporting DB schema at adequate intervals.
  
  We may have to get a different column data in different tables and store it in a single table / several reports DB tables.
  
  
  Can someone whether to go with Oracle Warehouse builder or the materialized views for this offer please?
  Or use OWB to create and maintain the MVs.

  The two are not exclusive. OWB is a tool for designing the data movement and implement updates to the warehouse.

  MVs are a tool integrated into the database in support of materialization of the current request to speed up some types of applications related to data that is availoable, perhaps after transport OWB.

  Looks like you are trying to make a reconciliation process? That is you can have implemented BIAPPS (or something custom) and now I want to check your ETL? If this is the case then it's good enough for a test case - we usually start with senior level (actual numbers for each group of companies, for example), then a subset of other different queries for example as per a level in the hierarchy of the org, by position, dates etc.

  You must use an Oracle Enterprise Edition for Advanced Replication

• What are the best solutions for data warehouse configuration in 10 gr 2

  I need help on solutions to provide my client for the upgrade of the data warehouse.
  
  Current configuration: database Oracle 9.2.0.8. This database contains the data warehouse and a LOBs more on the same host. The sizes are respectively 6 terabyte (3 years retention policy + current year) and 1 terabyte. The ETL tool and BO Reporting tools are also hosted on the same host. The current configuration is really poor.
  
  Customer cannot go for a major architectural or configuration to its environment changes existing now due to some constraints.
  
  However, they agreed to separate the databases on separate hosts of ETL tools and objects BO. We also plan to upgrade the database to 10 g 2 to achieve stability, better performance and overcome the current headache.
  We cannot upgrade the database 11g as the BO is a 6.5 version that is not compatible with Oracle 11 g. And the customer cannot afford to spend anything else than the database.
  
  So, my role is very essential in providing a perfect solution for better performance and take a migration successful Oracle from a host database to another (same platform and OS) in addition to the upgrade.
  
  I got to thinking now of the following:
  
  Move the database and Oracle mart for separating the host.
  The host will be the same platform, i.e. HP Superdome with 32-bit HP - UX operating system (we are unable to change to 64-bit as ETL tool does not support)
  Install the new Oracle 10 g on the new host database and move the data to it.
  Discover all the new features of 10gr 2 in order to data warehouse, i.e., introduction of Clause SQL TYPE, Parallel processing, partitioning, Data Pump, SPA to study the pre and post migration.
  Also at RAC to provide more better solution than our main motivation is to show an extraordinary performance improvement.
  I need your help to prepare a good roadmap for my assignment. Please suggest.

  Two major changes since the 9i to 10g which will impact performance are
  a. changes in the default values when executing GATHER_ % _STATS
  b. change in the behavior of the optimizer

  Oracle has published several white papers on them.

  Since 10g is no longer in the Premier Support, you'll have some trouble connecting SRs with Oracle Support - they will continue to ask you to use 11 g.

  The host will be the same platform, i.e. HP Superdome

  Why do you need export if you do not change the platforms? You could install 9.2.0.8 on the new server, the database clone and then level to 10 gr 2 / 11 GR 2.

  So far, I know that you can download the oracle Builder as a Stand Alone software warehouse.

  But you need the Standard version that you must buy if you want to use the Oracle Warehouse Builder for free (in Standard edition, it is included).
