Oracle Warehouse builder or materialized views

I have a requirement as follows:

Requirement:
We must create a Reporting DB to be used for information and a transactional database will be in separate host. Fundamentally, he need to extract data from a set of transactional DB tables and move to the Reporting DB schema at adequate intervals.

We may have to get a different column data in different tables and store it in a single table / several reports DB tables.

Can someone whether to go with Oracle Warehouse builder or the materialized views for this offer please?
Or use OWB to create and maintain the MVs.

Also please me a link point to what features are available with OWB

Our Oracle is installed in Solaris 10 and one who is perfect either generator warehouse Oracle or materialized views

Thank you

The two are not exclusive. OWB is a tool for designing the data movement and implement updates to the warehouse.

MVs are a tool integrated into the database in support of materialization of the current request to speed up some types of applications related to data that is availoable, perhaps after transport OWB.

Normal (to allow the future of mutual aid) access is

http://OTN.Oracle.com

-> Warehouseing Bi & data (link in the middle section)
-> Related products (product menu on the right): Warehouse Builder

  • Oracle Warehouse Builder and MySQL as a target for mappings

    Hello
its me again. Now with another problem.
I use the Oracle Warehouse Builder 11.2.0.1 and MySQL 5.1.1. I have connected to MySQL, imported from all tables - well. Now, I would like to use the tables in Oracle 11 g as a source and MySQL tables as a target for my maps. Since there are different servers, I used the model mappings. The problem is I get the error during the deployment process. I even can't deploy/create simple tables for the MySQL module. So I was wondering if it is even possible to use MySQL as the target? Or can I just use MySQL as a source?

It seems that the connectors are not deployed. The connector is at the location of the CCA to the location source or target used in your mapping. You can try to deploy the connectors of the CCM user interface, it will be deployed as J2EE data stores in the CCA. Thus, the name not found error, is the name within the CCA for the J2EE data store, deployment of the connector should solve that. They should be deployed automatically I think that it may therefore be that there is an error in deployment of connector, you need to check.

The mysql JDBC driver you copied into the appropriate directory for the CCA before the CCA?

  • Oracle Warehouse Builder VS Oracle Data Integrator

    Hello world

I have a question can you help me.

We have 64 x systems so we can not use Oracle Warehouse Builder (only supported on 32-bit system), someone we recommend using Data Integrator, but I don't really know this application.
In any case could ODI 11.1.X.X be installed in x 64:

All Oracle Fusion Middleware products that are listed as certified x 64 processor based Oracle Linux 5.5 or 5 update 5 +, 64-bit operating system, are also supported on Exalogic X 2 - 2.

What is the different between OWB and ODI?
I've read about it and see that ODI is powerful and it applies 'Data Quality' better than OWB, is it good?

Is it possible exp/IMP with charger metadata go metadata OWB ODI?

    Hello

Well, the fundamental difference is hard to tell. ODI is based on so-called knowledge module. These are implementations for physical access to all type (among others) different database technologies. So ODI used to be more flexible data extraction technology of database different and also written their. But with 11.2 OWB, these knowledge modules have been integrated in owb under so-called model mappings. OWB has stronger integration with the Oracle database and Oracle database is still required. Plans of Oracle to integrate these two tools in one some day, whenever that will be. ODI offers more options for the quality of the data (which are charged extra).

Technically speaking, both tools are not very different. They have different UIs anyway.

A big difference is the license. A basic version of OWB is included with the license database, it can be used without extra charge. Most of our customers use this version, even for implementations of large dwh. If you buy'm license ETL (or already have one), you can use both tools.

Before decide you on one of the tools, make sure you have enough staff with the right skills available - internal or external.

    Hope this helps,
    Carsten.

  • Operation update in Oracle Warehouse Builder

I would like to give my paintings date created parameters (CREATED_DT) and the last update (LAST UPD_DT). This fault, use the component of "mapping the input parameter". I hope that this component is the right?

    If my not so far.
    1. create "mapping of input parameter.
    2. set the attributes (CREATED_DT) and LAST_UPD_DT
    3. definition of the Type of data to date

I'm sorry, what exactly is the problem.

Have you provided the default value (via the property inspector) and still it does not work?

I tried this and I am able to load the target successfully table.

Here is the mapping that I created:

    (1) map created with a mapping entry setting, the source and the target oprators (the source table, I took is the scott schema EMP table)
    (2) mapped all the columns from the source to the target.
    (3) for the mapping of input parameter operator I created a variable output (SAMP_DAT with the DATE data type) and mapped this column in the target table
the value being CURRENT_DATE-10 in the expression editor
    (4) deployed and executed the plan
But the value of the SAMP_DAT was not loaded (it was NULL)
    (5) then I opened the properties for SAMP_DAT Inspector and provided by default like CURRENT_DATE-10 and deployed and rerun on the map
And now I am able to see the data for the SAMP_DAT column in the target table.

    Hope this helps

    Hello
I found that when oracle executes the create materialized view statement it must be longer than the duration of execution of the actual query.
    I do an IMMEDIATE CONSTRUCTION.
Is there a reason for this?

For example. the query in the create statement took 25 minutes and did not create the MV for 2 hours.
The following query, which took 10 seconds was not created during more than 11 minutes and is still ongoing.
So I want to know what the reason is behind this? pls share if you know... Thank you.

  • Are materialized views in Oracle OLAP licenses. ?

    Hi all
We use the EE Oracle 10 g 2. We try to find the list of products of Oracle 10gEE. License part materialized views in Oracle OLAP or that come with the Standard edition.

    Thank you

Commerce 10.2 has a table of availability of the editing features (a SE, SE, EE) which establishes good enough differences:
    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/editions.htm#BABJICBB

However I don't see, documentation, its use of MV (license) is clearly defined. Basically, it seems it depends of the use of MVs.

See, for example, Data Warehouse (syntheses) and integration - based replication. Sometimes, the documentation uses the phrase "materialized views to...» ». SQL aggregation / analytical seems to be a missing piece as well (in the current doc sets).

The new 11g Cube materialized views feature is of course an OLAP option.

"License issues really, really, really should be addressed to your representative commercial Oracle." Nothing we say here links to Oracle. We don't know other agreements, your organization may have with Oracle. ... explaining that "a guy on the internet with a card to play said logo is OK," probably won't do more good. »

  • Oracle materialized view more Gateway

    Dear Sir.

We have microsoft sql server, oracle gateway (11G) and database server (10.2.0.5)

We already have the complete installation, and it works.

We create a materialized view in the oracle server to read data from sql server, but the updating of the MV can't wait time
We are planing to create the view materialized in the oracle gateway server.

    My question is:

What is the best solution to create the MV in the oracle gateway server?
I mean I can't download MV only one instance of oracle database.

    Thanks in advance.

Just to clarify: there is normally no need to install a database on the gateway server. You can create the mview directly in your 10.2.0.5 database.
If you really want to have another data base which contains the mview then install in the box of gateway to the Oracle database using the version standard edition. There is no need to activate Enterprise Manager or other stuff.
About the size of the memory, it really depends on the amount of data you have to shoot through the gateway and to select by using the synonym. Therefore, there is no generic answer on sizing.

We must create a Reporting DB to be used for information and a transactional database will be in separate host. Fundamentally, he need to extract data from a set of transactional DB tables and move to the Reporting DB schema at adequate intervals.

Depending on how small and simple is your database, you can create materialized views on the Reporting DB to point to DB Transactionla through the database link.

I intend to use Oracle materialized views in the same host as transactional DB to next part of requirment

If are simple MVs, then let them cool off quickly. If too complex, all jobs to refresh at specific intervals.

"We may have to get a different column data in different tables and store it in a single table / several reports DB tables.

You will be several tables in DB report in the form of the Metrialised views

and then use Oracle streams to move at regular intervals of DB reports.

This combination is not necessary. You're talking about two different things at the same time.

  • Materialized Oracle view | Deleting records, Oracle materialized view

    One question reg Materialized views.

If as part of the interview of the Source database, we remove some (older) recordings, the materialized view will also be updated with the deletion?

I believe that the answer is Yes. In this case make sure that deletion is not the case?

Is there anyway that we'll stop MView update to delete records that is inserted once even if we remove the same records in the source DB?

This is a common scenario, especially with materialized views that summarizes the detail data where you want to keep the summary but not the detail, and it is discussed in the documentation.

The technique is to make the MV refresh on request, delete the data in the detail tables and the CONSIDER_FRESH procedure to prevent the changes propagating to the MV. You will probably find it in the docs by searching on DBMS_MView.Consider_Fresh. There are a few caveats to note, in my opinion.

  • Concept of materialized views in Data Warehouse creation?

    Hi all

I want to understand the concept of materialized views.

We have a demanding we have OLTP EBS R12 system, now we need to recover data from the EBS and load it into the target and then I have to use the predefined financial, human resources reports.

We do not use Informatica and DAC, I heard that there is another concept (using materialized views) to load the data into the target, so all the two through some can shed some light on the same links or a doc.

    Kind regards

    Norman John

    Hi Tim,.

It is not necessary... MV is an object database... you can import MV in BIEE repository as usual, as the importation of an object (table, view) database...

More information: refreshment of the MV will be done at the database level. We must therefore ensure that it will not be in a State not VALID. Just to OBIEE...

  • The Transformation of the Star can treat materialized views?

    Hello

Oracle data warehouse Guide says that "the optimizer generates a subquery for a dimension table" when you apply a transform star. Star processing restrictions refer always to "dimension tables. I am referring to an Oracle 11 g server.

My question is: If star can also manipulate materialized views instead of tables in database size? In my scenario, I intend to use views materialized, derived from dimension tables to build a simple star around a fact table schema. SQL queries directly consult the materialized views (contain the names of materialized views in the FROM clause) - no rewriting query or dimensional rollup is intended.

    Thanks for your advice.

    Concerning

Yes - in your use case, they are one and the same. A dimension table is a table that has a foreign key to one or more columns in the fact table.

Your VM is your dimension tables.
