Organize my photos?

1. what happens if I rename a picture on my computer, move it to another folder, or rename the folder which the photo is inside that I tell LR where it is?

2. I have tons and tons of files with different pictures I want to start using with LR. Is it wise to organize the photos on my computer first in a sort of organized before entering LR structure or is it just a waste of time?

Thanks in advance.

1 Lightroom won't be able to find it. In this case, you will need to point LR to the new location of the photo and the new name. Important point: Lightroom is not a file Explorer. Important: once you import a photo in Lightroom, it takes all the management of this photo in Lightroom.

2. it makes no sense to organize the photos in your operating system, because you have much more powerful tools in Lightroom. It makes sense to 100% to import photos into Lightroom, then Lightroom tools, such as keywords and other metadata, to organize the photos. Keywords and other metadata are specially designed for photographs, while the names of folders were not. Keywords and metadata allow photos to be organized in hierarchies (e.g. who, what, where, when and others) while folders allow you to organize as a hierarchy. Keywords and other metadata allow you to search that can find photos that are scattered in dozens of files. such a search is almost impossible in your operating system. So... let your photos where they are and import them into LR small batch and start to add keywords and other metadata for these photos. Subsequently, organization occurs in Lightroom with keywords and other metadata and not through folders or file names; Research happens in Lightroom; navigation occurs in Lightroom; and management of the files is done in Lightroom.

    Hello

I am in the process by putting my main workstation to Windows to Mac. I have a pretty big photo archive (110 GB), that I always organized in the folders as I want - year, photo taken months and I use Bridge and Photoshop for editing (cloud Creative). I really _want_ to take photos but I understand Photos on import organizes all the pictures of the Photoslibrary in folders by date imported. That makes me hesitate. I don't understand. Have tried Googling and Youtubing, but cannot decide what to do. My biggest concern is that if I want to return to using Bridge and Photoshop as my main workflow I'd on the photos in Finder folders organized by photographing year/month - is it possible to export all the photos in the photo library in Finder folders organized by photo date taken?

Of course, another option is to use the photos without copy photos in the photo library. Is this a bad alternative? Is there any feature that I miss with the option?

Help a total newbie on Mac out. I'm so confused.

Pictures displays your photo library in two different views:

    1. The sight of Photos show you the photos organized by "Moments." A Moment is a group of photos taken on the same day in the same place.  The times appear firstly by capture date, oldest chronlogically.  You can change the display of the Moments to a view of collections or year for large groups of photos.  Collections are grouping related moments, so you will find pictures of holidays in a collection. The title of the collections and the moments will show catpture date and location, if your photos are tagged with GPS. I mainly use this view to access my photos to the capture date.  Collections and the 'Moments', years are saving me a lot of work, since the consolidation is carried out fully automatically.  I don't have to create folders named by date ranges and places on my own.
    2. The photos in the album 'Pictures' is sort by the date you imported, so that you can easily access the most recent import.

And Yes, you can export your photos in folders named by date.  Among the export options is the subfolder option "name of the Moment."

The Masters folder inside the photo library contains the original images, if you copy photos in the library, but it is not intended as a means to access pictures.  Always use the GUI of photos recover photos and pass them to external publishers.  To edit a photo in photoshop, you open the photo in edit mode and run the extension of "External editors" photo editing and select Photoshop as editor.

Photos will work this way, but you cannot use iCloud photo library.

Also, this is not well supported to use the pictures in this way.  Photos has no tools to reconnect the pictures referenced quickly, if you must move the photos to another drive. or if you restore a backup photos, because the leaning reader operation.  You will have a lot of work, if you need to replace your drive with the library or move it to a new computer.  So I can't really recommend.  If you want to manage your photos from the Finder, do not use the Photos for Mac application.

I prefer to have mage Photos my photos, because it is easy to create albums of the purpose FRO specific to search for photos: the date of capture one titles and legends, the names of the people in the photos, the name of the scene.

But it is to you, how you want to organize your Photos.  You can use a Mac without the help of pictures.

If you like Adobe software, why not use Lightroom?  It supports the referenced pictures and integrates well with Photoshop.

  • Organizer of photos on the top of iMac desktop computer

I just bought a new iMac and have transferred data from my previous iMac. Also, I transferred the contents of iPhoto to Photos. (total about 13 000 pictures). I used to use iPhoto to organize and view my photos and Photoshop elements 11 as an external editor. I found iPhoto had a system much better organize Photos than if I want to stop to use the Photos. Can someone tell me how I can transfer the content of Photos to a new folder/folders in images. Then, I'll use Photoshop elements 11 and its Organizer I already installed on the computer to edit and organize my photos. I've not yet deleted my data from my old iMac.

  • Is it possible to control the Organization of Photos?

I finally bit the bullet and improved Mavericks with El Capitan and who now have to deal with pictures. I understand that pictures is designed to look like my iPhone and the iPad, but I don't store 64 000 photos on my iPhone. I'm not interested in using iCloud, so the fact that the Photos work well with iCloud is questionable. I got my photos carefully classified into events in iPhoto, often also the keywords tag and gathered in the smart Albums. I know that these events still exist on the sidebar in Photos, but I can scroll is no longer if they visually, using the key photos to see what event I'm (and scroll through a list of 450 events in a sidebar is quite heavy). There is no way to quickly scroll through my large library AT ALL. When I look at the years/collections/moments 'organization', it looks like big piles of photos, with no logic in how they are organized. You can not just get a representative of the group photograph, he must see all (& they are so small, that really nothing appears if you go at times for each & every group). They have random dates (sort of chronological, but not always), random places, that was (I found a lot of crazy places assigned - for example, a group of photos that were all taken home with a unknown place not assigned - in another State, no less!) - in short, not useful organization. If I want a picture in particular of January 2013, it will take a little research.

I would like to put pictures together into groups that make sense to me. Is it possible to do that, far from putting a keyword on each. unique. Photo?

p.s., Maybe someone else has already asked/answered my question, but when I tried to search for similar issues, the search engine could not do. It turns out that "Photos" can also be read as simple 'photos', so the search engine came up with hundreds of responses - any question with the word "photos". Note to Apple: choose a single word to your photo in the future program, please. Sheesh.

Events are dead as a concept for the organization. Photos used Moments.

You can change the size of the images with the zoom slider.

You can use the search tool to quickly get to January 2013 - just type Jan... and see suggestions.

If you want to group images by your own categories can use keywords or smart Albums Albums. It's really no different than iPhoto.

Other than that, it's perfectly reasonable to find that the app is not good for you. It is not mandatory to use it and there are other managers of photos out there that would suit your workflow better. This is especially true if you have no use for the photo Cloud element.

  • HOW CAN I ORGANIZE MY PHOTOS SO THAT I CAN HAVE AN ENTIRE YEAR TOGETHER, BUT GROUPED BY EVENT?

I WANT TO ORGANIZE MY PHOTOS IN IPHOTO BY YEAR, THIS YEAR, I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP BY THE EVENTS.  FOR EXAMPLE, I WANT ALL THE PHOTOS OF 2015 GROUPED TOGETHER, BUT WITHIN THE GROUP, ORGANIZED BY EVENTS.  HOW CAN I DO THIS?

    Hi jenycobi,

Please do not type in capital letters, it's like screaming and we can hear you very well.

However to answer your questions, create a folder (give the file name of the year) and then in the folder create albums for each event. For example, here is what mine looks like in 2015:

  • Organize your photos in Windows 8

Original title: well, I bought a new computer with windows 8, and it totally sucks how can I complain enough to return to windows 7

I bought a computer with windows 8 and I'm very dissatisfied. I can't yet easily organize my photos. I can't group them and drag them easily in the files. I seem to always go back to the old office and make forest and all. This program is so poorly organized. so many holes are missing and I just want back my windows 7 that was on my old hard drive that crashed. I am pretty technologically Savoie and may not yet understand it. I bet that the average person will not be able to do this work. Windows 7 has been a great OS and I am betting that the mac people applaud by watching this shipwreck.  Send me a CD I want out!

The box I have is just a preference that I turned on under my options. You can also do it in View > Folder Options, but it should not affect this problem.

Are you able to drag files into folders in other locations in addition to photos?

  • Photoshop Elements, organizer & mobile photos from Mac to PC

    Hello

I have currently more 70 000 photos in iPhoto, I edit in Photoshop Elements.  I have myself treated just for an upgrade to 14 items and organizing see during the installation process reminded me that I should see how to store and organize my photos.  At some point soon, I intend to spend my Macbook to a PC.  14 items came with a disc of Mac and a PC drive, so I guess that I would be able to use it on a Windows laptop with no problems.  What I wonder is seen my photos on my Mac, organized to the Organizer if is going to make it easier or more difficult to transfer them to PC?  If I want with iPhoto to organize my photos for now, or take the plunge immediately and use Organizer? My understanding is that it will be a big headache in any case (advice gratefully received, but a little off topic!) to transfer my photo library from Mac to PC.  Is there a way that organizing can help the transition as I could use it on both Mac and PC?  I'm guessing not, but thought someone knowledgable might be able to help!

    Thank you

Yes, the boxed version is "double platform.

I'm not a Mac user, but there are two ways to work with iPhoto: either use iPhoto as the organizer and send images to change to the item editor. You do not use the Organizer in the process. Or you use the option to send your entire library to the Organizer, which duplicates all your library iPhoto hidden on your computer and allows you to use the Organizer.

    http://barbarabrundage.com/2010/11/

So, I can see the following process:

    1. be sure you are using the second solution, to import your ENTIRE library in iPhoto on your computer so that your files are no longer hidden and private iPhoto files; the Organizer all will keep them in its catalog.

    2. perform a full backup of the Organizer on an external drive

3 - install the 14 on the PC

4 - Use the recovery menu in the Organizer to restore on your computer. Who restores your catalog and all of your media files.

  • Problem with the visibility of the Organizer in photos: Photoshop elements (PSE) 9

Problem with the visibility of the Organizer in photos: Photoshop elements (PSE) 9

Hi, I hope this is the right place for this question and the common sense of Scripture. It is my first experience with this forum.

    Problem with Photoshop (PSE 9):

    1. I put pictures in a catalog of PES 9.
    2. For a while, everything was fine.
    3. Now, they seem to be more and more disappearing.
    4. When I click on the folder view:
      1. It is said there is no pictures here. Or
      2. It shows a small only a small proportion of the photos that are there.
    5. When I try to put the photos again, PES 9 says that they are already in the cataloge. (Too bad they can't be seen!)
    6. Photos can be "revealed in Explorer" that is why I know there is incompatibility.
    7. I have: -.
      1. some show all the pictures.
      2. optimized catalog.
      3. repaired the catalog.
      4. No selected tags.

In any case, hope this gives enough information.

I saw that other people have had this problem on various forums, but I have not read a response that still works.

    Anyone got any solutions?

  • Re organization command photo on a memory stick.

I've got El Capitan installed on my Apple Pro. I got a few photos scanned (all at the same time) and saved on a memory stick. I saw the pictures, and now I want to rearrange the photos for a presentation. I dragged and moved photos to create the order I wanted. However when I saw pictures again, I found that they had returned back to their original positions. I obviously did not have something that would be ' locked their ' in their new order. I would like some advice. Thank you.

The only way to force a particular order is to add a prefix or a suffix to the files in the order of your choice. That is to say, 1filename.png, 2filename.png, etc.

  • How can I organize my Photos in one place?

original title: My Photos are everywhere in my computer how to gather all and put in one place?

Well, my photos are everywhere I want to search for and collect only my photos and get rid of all the messages in my library of images? is there a magician or something that can search my computor and remove all the pictures and put them in one place?

Search your computer for the file types by using wildcard characters, for example looking for the * .nef, then cut and paste to the desired location.

  • Can I organize my photos into albums in a specific order?

    PES 9 on Windows 7.

I have an album with a number of images.

I'd like the images to view/print in a specific order.

Is there a way I can manually reorganize and get that in order to stay with the album?

    Thank you!

Yes. Select the album and changed the order of the order of the album date. You can drag the photos in all positions, and they will remain fixed in your selected order.

  • How simply move/Custom, organize your Photos in Lightroom 4?

I am so frustrated at the moment. I'm in Lightroom 4 and I'm in the Mode Library grid. All I want to do is take a photo in the grid and move it to another location in the grid. It seems that you should be able to just click on the picture, drag and drop to where you would like placed on the grid. It's impossible. Then I read that the record must be clicked on also. So I clicked on the folder. Then, a pop-up said that I have, "can't move photos as long as there are subfolders". So I clicked on the subfolder and I still couldn't move picture. Then I read that I had to delete the subfolder. I did it and all 546 photos have been removed from Lightroom. I am now in the middle of importing the photos in Lightroom. Why is it so difficult? In Aperture, you need to drag the photo to the desired position. It works just like a toaster. But why Lightroom does make things so difficult? I wish someone would do a tutorial for Adobe TV about how simply move the photos. It is so basic and I can't understand it. Please, someone tell me just how to move a photo in Lightroom 4 to another position? Thank you.

It seems that if you try to sort on a folder that has subfolders. LR will not allow this - you must open specific subfolder that contains only these images you need to sort and to do with it.

  • using PSE7 - how to manually size and organize the photos on the page 8.5 x 11 to maximize the use of paper

I print on expensive printable fabric that can be cut for use.  Instead of photos printed in the center of the page, I want to be able to place them in the page to maximize the use of space and perhaps even change the size of some to fit in unused spaces.  I know that the corel program that easily resizing and can't believe it is not possible on PSE 7 (I also haver PSE 5 on another computer = may be feasible here?)

You can never copy paste more than one at a time.

    So:

    1 copy of the photo.

    2. glue in the empty file.

    3 activate the move tool

    4. use the move tool to resize the picture (dragging a corner making sure constrain proportions is on in the options bar), and then drag to where you want it on the page.

    Repeat steps.

  • Organization of the photo to Mac for the external hard drive

I recently had the Mac portable, Air and noticed that the iPhotos can organize my photos by location, date, etc.  I really like it and would like to get all my pictures in a folder like this.  I also really like the faces feature because I can attribute name tags to faces and then discovered just one person, if I want to.  How do I get all my photos that exceed the amount of my hard drive space Mac Air.

It cannot be done in iPhoto, but you can easily create an iPhoto library on a disk external to the Mac OS extended (journaled) format and directly connected to your Mac.

  • Extremely Basic Photo Organization strategy

I have a MacBook Air with Photo version 1.3 which I am running with OX X El Capitan worm. 10.11.3.

I never learned how to create any sort of organization with this computer for personal reasons, but now I want to. I have sort of duplicate libraries or what appears to be duplicates that I transferred to an external drive. I now start with a blank slate and I really wonder how I should start. For some reason, all what I have read about it is over my head. I understand the idea of drag photos in the new library, but I can't access the old libraries with the open new. I don't know how to open the 'old'... but I'm clueless as to what to do. After I organized all of these pictures, so I was wondering the best way to maintain this system. I want everything stored on my hard drive. but it seems that I need a photo library of systems by default when my hard drive is not connected... Finally, I can use the iCloud system, but I want to first go through all my photos and put them in a place of rest organized. I don't want everything to the cloud.

I'm sure this question has been answered but I couldn't find it and what I just did too much information.
