• Importing and organizing photo files lightroom 5 for the first time. Clean photo hard drive files

  I have a trial version of lightroom 5 and would like one once and forall to restore order to my two drives hard and lightroom 5 collection. Some photos in lightroom 5 seem to have lost their way. Some are in folders of Windows 7 and others are 9 elements. I made backup copies of some records and would like to have a more systematic approach to save them in the future. I have a NAS (network access storage) device and an additional hard drive, I thought that it would be better to use my cell phone as main for my photo files working memory such that it would be faster to work with the NAS or external and then again everything down to the NAS and external. I consider that the main challenge group all files and as much as possible to preserve the sides I gave photos; I would like to eliminate duplicats. on both the hard drive and in lightroom. I watched one of the vidios of initial training on the 'library' of the adobe help section and the presenter talked about two ways to import photos. the first and I think that I will use in the future is to open lightroom and import from the SD directly rather than having the Windows 7 import, and then ask to lightroom to find them. If anyone Kow of an exhaustive enumeration of the instructions on how to clean up my hard drives that would be extremely useful? Peter

  I doubt that it is a list of instructions to wipe a hard drive, because each starting situation is different and your 'own' is probably very different than my "clean".

  But let's clear up a few things first. From your writings, it seems that you think that you have stored pictures in post-secondary education and photos stored in LR. This is not correct. None of these programs to store your photos. All your pictures are on your hard drive, in folders, somewhere.

  Regarding the missing photos in Lightroom, when you move or rename your photos and folders outside of the Lightroom, Lightroom doesn't know where they are and bring back them as being absent. To fix it, see: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm related to that, you don't want to 'clean up' things in Windows and also "clean things" upward in Lightroom. Instead, once you import photos into Lightroom, you must do all the managing photos in Lightroom, not Windows, otherwise you'll just create several missing files.

  Regarding duplicates, Lightroom has some tools to detect duplicates. He will try to prevent duplicates during the import, and if you are unable to import duplicates, you can use the "auto stack by Capture time" to try to find additional duplicates. But if those who do not work, then're it pretty much on your own.

  With regard to put photos on your laptop to work on them rather than on your external hard drive, I think you will find that this gives a fraction of a second speed improvement that you may even not notice, which will be offset by the time you spend moving somewhere else photos when finished. So just put the photos in their final destination on your external HD or a NAS file and don't bother moving them to the internal HD.

  Which leads to another point. Once you have done this 'cleaning', your workflow should be to put the photos in a place and then do not transfer! (Exception: not enough space on the disk or moving to another drive/computer) Make your life easier as possible.

  One last point: seriously consider using keywords and other metadata for the Organization, rather than move photos/files from here to there, to reach the organization. These tools in Lightroom will give you the possibility of organizing in a much more powerful and flexible organization and what you can do by moving the photos/files from here to there. (Note: If you want all the photos in a sort of centralized location because it meets your storage needs, can do that because it meets your storage needs.) In this collection of photos in a centralized location, using keywords and other metadata to achieve organization and research)

  I looked at the images of an industrial capture system that records important data (including timestamps and implemented at the point of data) in as many custom tags TIFFF.

  for example, 65000, 65001, etc..

  
  These appear with many TIFF visionneurs (PS, LR, spotted in OSX, same exiftool etc...). From my understanding, this is due to fact that they are considered "private tags" that should be ignored because the apps don't know what to do with them.

  
  Does anyone know of a Plugin for Lightroom that would allow of look one of these types of tags? It would be wonderful to do kinds and selects in these areas.

  I'm sure there isn't any LR plugin that will show you directly private TIFF tags.

  However, if you are technically minded and lived with the scripts, I think you can create a configuration custom Exiftool to display the tags (see example.config for hints on how to do that - you will probably need to post on the Exiftool forum for help).  Once you have Exiftool showing tags, you can use the Data Explorer plugin to display and group photos in LR by private tags.

  There is not "best" overall. Two programs are good things and 'not so good' things, and you should try to see which suits you best.

  Marking distance (and edition remotely) has been discussed several times in this forum, but since these applications have been designed as a single-user application, all the methods proposed are somewhat of a workaround and may be bit tedious and detailed.

  Outsourcing in the Philippines... Well, I have no experience on it.

  Hi, I would spend using elements to use Lightroom. While I realize that I can import my catalog and photos, which should also create all my keywords, I fear that the structure of parent/child of existing keywords/tags would be lost? They would be created as a single list contiguous?

  Can anyone confirm this is the case, and if so, someone knows how to move the tags through all retaining the original structure AND remains associated with correct pictures?

  I moved to Lightroom elements last year.

  The structure of the catalog has remained exactly the same.

  Simply use the menu option in LR to import your catalog of items converted him.  It is in the file menu somewhere.

• Imports to Lightroom even my vertical horizontal photos!

  Well, the title says it all. When I import pictures directly from the camera (Canon Rebel XTi) or the card reader, it imports all the files as the horizontals, including verticals of course. Now, when they are displayed in Lightroom (1 or 2), the verticals are correctly oriented, however if I go to my pictures/somepicturefolder/and look at the real files, the vertical lines are horizontal.

  Of course, this becomes quite annoying when I don't want to export all the images I import new everywhere just to guide correctly if I want to send the new files to a friend or print them. Also, if I want to turn the original good orientation vertical in the Viewer Windows images or anything else (remember, I can't rotate in lightroom because they are at the vertical as they should be when displayed in the library), it then show these files incorrectly in Lightroom, but also unsyncing metadata and all that jazz.

  This can become very boring, and honestly, I have no idea why it does. My brother use and mac and when it downloads images from the camera even (which has the auto-rotation on) it displays normally for him on his computer, (Macs are always better...)

  So, if it is a problem that has been posed before, I apologize, but it's very frustrating!

  There is nothing that Lightroom can do about it. It is something that the camera manufacturers have standardized on. Most of the cameras that support automatic orientation store the orientation of the camera in the form of metadata, as well as your file if it is jpeg or raw. Lightroom knows this indicator and auto rotates the picture when he sees it. Most applications on the Mac are familiar with this indicator. Many apps on windows you've discovered ignore it and so they don't know they are supposed to rotate the image for display. If you want the images correctly oriented in apps that aren't aware of outside of Lightroom rotation indicator, you need to export.

• I'm relatively new to lightroom, even though I've been using photoshop for many years.

  After the opening, development and copy of a selected image, I make selections in the print section but when I try to print my 2880, the program indicates at the top left of the screen that is being finished, but then, invariably, lightroom closes without printing.  If I instead during my development to continue with the change in photoshop and print it from there, I have no problem.  What I'm doing wrong by dint of lightroom to quit smoking?     hope for more help, owlbird

  There is a known issue with watermarks that certain combinations of fonts and font sizes do not work properly. You can try another font or size and see if you can get print with watermarks to work. It may take a little experimentation.

  I'm doing the extra change to post-secondary studies after my settings in Lightroom.  I know I have to go to Photo-> Edit in and the PSE option should be highlighted, but it is not.  I went to Lightroom-> Preferences-> external editing and it does not appear.  It says "Edit in Adobe Photoshop (not found), but I have PSE not PS.»  I launched PSE in the hope that the problem, but it wasn't.

  How can I solve this problem?  I'm new to Lightroom, working with the evaluation version while my version full of ships and should be here tomorrow. I bought the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Kelby book, but it is not the problem.

  I think I'm finally ready for WLPG lightroom for photo management. I used LR for a long time to make the changes but people tags are huge and kept all my photo in WLPG management. I have 100 photos organized k and they are all marked in WLPG people. I just started the trial LR6 and noticed that it is not honor people WLPG existing tags. Is it possible to import / to avoid making people for 100 k photos tags? Who will simply not happen.

• I got Lightroom 2 and now I don't have - what are my options?

  I bought Lightroom 2 in 2009 for my desktop computer. At the time when the computer is running Windows Vista.  We have finally upgraded to Windows 7 this week.  The guy who installed for us is a "clean" installation, which means that he wiped the hard drive and restored the files after the new system was in place.  I was informed that I could re - install programs - like Lightroom - who was previously on the computer if I kept my serial number. But now that I went to the Adobe site I can't seem to download Lightroom, even though I have serial numbers.  I fear that it is because I bought the program nearly 5 years ago and somehow my license ended.

  Can anyone help?  I would rather not come part of the money for a new version of Lightroom.  But even if I do, can someone tell me if the program "recognize" the photos that were organized in my old library of LIghtroom and integrate them into the new Lightroom?

  I'm working on a computer, but not very savvy so forgive me if I'm missing the obvious clues.

• Remove the video tags?

  I downloaded a few vintage movies - some have video tags, that some do not

  I order them all by using the file name
  WMP12 ordered them to Tag the video (if they have one) or name of file if they are not
  Tried to delete the video tags that I thought was a success, but they reappear whenever I reset the wmp database, reinstall windows, or access it from another PC = its not to delete the actual file tags, only from the WMP database

  No, tags are stored in the file itself.  WMP can change its local database, but you will lose those changes whenever you reset (so do not reset there is a response).  But to strip out of the file itself, you'll need a program that can edit videos.

• I have problems with the standalone version of Lightroom 6.

  I have a problem with Lightroom 6 - so much trouble that I'm currently impossible to use.

  (1.), I bought the standalone version of Lightroom 6 - CC No. I bought the disc, not a download.

  (2) I installed and used for months without any problem.

  (3) when I clicked on the icon on the desktop to open it - about three weeks ago, I got a message that I could buy (1) or (2) try it for 30 days. Of course, I couldn't choose one of these options because two of them would require me to pay for the program, either immediately, or within 30 days, if I wanted to continue to use it. If I deleted this message, Lightroom would not open. So, I was locked out Lightroom even though I had already paid for it.

  (4) given that I got the disc, I decided to reinstall Lightroom. This allowed me to use Lightroom again. I've been using this new facility without problem for several weeks; However, when I clicked on the icon of the office tonight to open Lightroom, I got the same message again: buy it or agree to a 30 day trial. So, I'm locked again.

  (5) I decided to install again. I managed to install the program on the disk; However, when I tried to open Lightroom, I received the message (not the exact wording): "you have installed Lightroom on computers too ' or maybe it was ' you used this serial number for facilities too - something along those lines." (I can't raise the message again, or I'll give you the exact wording). So now I'm completely locked.

  (6) before these challenges, I got Lightroom installed on my main desktop and on a laptop that I used when I travel. That's two facilities, and I installed twice on my desktop computer to try to circumvent the problems described above. However, I carefully watched my installed programs and there seems to have only a single installation of Lightroom 6 - no step three.

  When you receive the message about the trial or a 30 day program, you should be able to choose the "Software license" option and activate using your key in order to to use without getting to re-setup.
