Original photos keep endangered...

I collect digital images. I use the same procedure each time. Save the image in a collection on my drive folder, drag the image to the photo files (previously with iPhoto which never presented me with no problem). Once the files are displayed in the Photo.photoslibrary (which UNFORTUNATELY, you can not see what files it except Photos is open) I then delete the files in the folder of the collection assuming that they are now in the library. Most of the time it works always, but occationally when you try to open an image, I get:

It seems that one should keep a separate file containing all images to replace the file "unavailable original? Seems to happen completely randomly. What might be missing? My library files are huge, so I have to buy a good amount of space to keep them in the cloud AND I got Pages AND files numbers disappear icloud (not recently, but I always wear fear).

Looks like you have unchecked the preference of pictures to copy items imported into the library of Photos - if you have it is why you have this problem - unchecking that is strongly discouraged, but if you do, you must always ensure that the original photos are always available at the original location - they can not be removed and the path to them can never changes

  • Storage of original photos of full resolution in iCloud and IMac

    Hi all.

I have what I think, it is a very simple question, but for the life of me cannot find a definitive answer.

I have a librurary of photo on my iMac. (don't have not yet updated for sierra)

I would like to support this thesis / store the originals in ICloud AND keep them on my mac.

SO I think that the obvious thing to do is select "optimize storage" in the settings of cloud photo which clearly says that they will be in the cloud and the computer. But here's the question...

If my IMac is low on space will start serving the original photos so that they are FAIR to Icloud?

If so, what is the threshold of how much space it starts to do this?

and if I recover my space again once on the iMac will be the original re download back to my iMac?

    Thanks in advance people.

You may not use the setting 'Optimize storage' - select ' download originals for the Mac ", if you want than the originals, to be stored locally on the Mac and on iCloud.

So that 'download originals to the Mac' is activated, all of the original will be kept on your Mac as well.

It will not start original purge, as long as you keep "Optimize storage disabled".

Optimization of the storage with the storage management is automatic.  Photos will download the originals if you need and remove, if more storage is needed. You cannot control this.

I would like to support this thesis / store the originals in ICloud AND keep them on my mac.

iCloud library is no backup. It is a synchronization service to keep all your libraries on different devices synchronized and updated. If you accidentally delete photo from your library, it is not possible to restore from iCloud. Deletion can be synchronized to all devices and iCloud, so the photo has disappeared everywhere.  You need a backup separate from your library on an external drive, even if you use iCloud photo library.

  • Possible to delete the pix of Photos & keep about iCloud?

I'm a jump and move photos to another management/editing software. I want 90 GB free on my Macbook Pro by deleting all my photos photos, but I want to KEEP all my photos (30,000 of them) in iCloud.

It is an intermediate movement until I am sure that I don't want to use the Photos.

Is this possible? Is it as simple as click on the button "Optimize Mac Storage" in the Panel preferences of Photos? Or is it possible to actually DELETE the pictures of my HD while keeping on iCloud?

    Thank you-

Is this possible? Is it as simple as click on the button "Optimize Mac Storage" in the Panel preferences of Photos? Or is it possible to actually DELETE the pictures of my HD while keeping on iCloud?

If you click on "Optimize storage", Photos will remove more original images, if you are running out of storage and replace with smaller optimized versions.

It will be a dynamic process and take a long time.

The fastest solution would be to move your photo library on an external drive, then remove it from your system disk. If you keep iCloud active library, you can still use iCloud photo library, if your external drive is connected, and you do the library on your external drive your system library.

Or you can disable iCloud photo library on your Mac in ' Photos > Preferences > iCloud. Do not click on "Disable and remove" in system preferences > iCloud > Photos. The photos will remain in iCloud.

Then don't use that the web interface for iCloud to www.icloud.com > Photos

See this help https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/phtf5e48489cpage. -the last paragraph "stop using iCloud photo library.

Important: If you decide to disable iCloud photo library, first be sure to select 'Download this Mac originals' in the iCloud Photos preferences pane, then all your original photos can be downloaded from iCloud to your Mac. Be sure to leave your originals to download before shutting iCloud library completely.

    • Choose Photos > Preferences, then click on iCloud.
    • Uncheck the box for iCloud photo library to turn it off.

After having turned off iCloud photo library, the Photos on your Mac app can't access your iCloud library, and changes you make to photos on your Mac do not appear on other devices. Your library remains in iCloud and available to other devices than iCloud use photo library. To disable iCloud photo library on all your devices, open the iCloud of system preferences pane, click on the button manage, then click on photo library. Click on "Disable and remove." Your photos and videos will be deleted icloud library within 30 days, unless you click Undo deletion before that date.

  • Can I remove original Photos libraries?

With the help of Mac Book Pro retina with El Capitan and the iPad and iPhone with iOS 9. I opened pictures before you mix my old iPhoto with Picture Manager libraries. I have now two libraries in Photos: original pictures and the library recently merged. Can I delete the photo library Photos system original and keeping all the iCloud and sharing features? Traces of the original photo library will always be in iCloud?

Only the library system can be activated in the library to iCloud.  If you want another library to be your iCloud photo library, you can enable this library as the photo library of the system and then activate it in your library to iCloud.  The pictures will download and merged with the photos that are already in iCloud.  Photos search for duplicates while merging libraries, so that the same photo will download twice, if we can recognize the duplicate.

You can then remove the first library.  But I have a current backup before doing so.

Yes, they do. See:iCloud photo library - Apple Support

Note that if you open the Photos on your Mac and go to preferences and click on iCloud at the top of the preferences window, there are 2 options: 'Download the originals of this Mac' and 'Optimize Mac storage.' If you choose the option optimize and your Mac is low on storage space, then the originals can be replaced with smaller optimized versions.

  • WARNING: iCloud library deletes the original photos on Mac

Recently, I turned on the library to iCloud in the Photos app preferences. I chose the option "Download this Mac originals," not "optimize Mac memory" so all my original full quality photos will remain on my Mac and probably be safe. After uploading to the cloud ended (took a while), I made a backup of my Mac using Retrospect. I noticed that a lot (almost all by the number of GB) photos were being backed up, what happens if the file or its attributes modified. I was wondering why to send photos to the cloud would change my photo files. I decided to review individual cases to see if there were differences from the original versions. (Luckily, I had a clone of my HD last week, which had all my photos some before iCloud photo library has been activated.) So I could compare the originals on the clone for the pictures changed on my Mac's hard drive.)

To find files modified more easy, I used sync Pro, which gives me a list of files that it thinks are different. I discovered that more than 150 of my 9500 photos have been deleted after turning on iCloud photo library! It was shocking, but it is good news.

I have carefully reviewed the photos maybe a decade or two that had been deleted. If they had any duplicates which were not deleted. In other words, apparently Photos, trying to send photos to iCloud, reviewed my photos and remove duplicates from my hard drive. By comparing these duplicates, I have found not all were an exact replica, as follows.

    • Several photos appear to be identical files with the same size and file modification dates. Actually duplicates, thus eliminating one is without real loss, although I don't like deletions of software that Apple all of my original photos at first.
    • Some 'duplicates' had different size files. It's relative. In all these cases, examine photos of GraphicConverter revealed that Photos had deleted the photo of lower quality, depending on the quality of compression ratio or %. (The photo of lower quality is not always a smaller file size.)
    • Some "double" had same file sizes but different modification dates. I think that, in these cases, pictures kept the old file, which would probably be the original.
    • Some have had different file size and date to change different.  In these cases the Photos deleted the photo of lower quality.

Based on examination of a small percentage of the total number of deleted duplicates, Photos seem to be taken of intelligent decisions on how to remove duplicate.

What I don't know, is how or why most photo changed during the download process to iCloud, such files as revealed by Retrospect. But looking at my photos, I did not notice any obvious problems.

Implementation of Apple to iCloud library caused similar problems when I tried first. He changed most of my files of songs (according to retrospective). When this happened, I have restored the original files of the song from a backup and off the musical library to iCloud. I gave Apple several months for bugs and the week last tried railway. This time, it seems to go smoothly and none of my songs files have been changed. Now I'm enjoyimg music Apple and the possibility to add streaming music to my playlists.

I like to be able to view my pictures on all my Apple devices, and when the next tvOS comes out soon, I'll be able to view my library on my Apple TV iCloud too. So I won't restore all my photos from a backup, then off iCloud photo library. Here's hoping that I find out later that one of my favorite photos are definitely missing or altered.

    El Capitan 10.11.3

    1.3 photos

    iMac (24 inch, early 2009)

Based on examination of a small percentage of the total number of deleted duplicates, Photos seem to be taken of intelligent decisions on how to remove duplicate.

I noticed similar symptoms.  When I import a picture that is a duplicate of one already in my library of Photos, both copies will share the same original image file in the folder of masters. Photos allows you to import duplicates, but will store only one version. This makes it almost impossible to replace JPEG corrupted by the restored versions of a backup.

You can watch iCloud checking for duplicates while you download new photos. Launch the Console.app and look for the process 'photomodell '. You will see many entries like this:

  • Xperia Z5: How to return to the original photo after you save the cropped photo?

Hi, I wonder how I can return to the original photo after saving a photo cropped on my Xperia Z5. The cropped photo doesn't have a sufficient resolution so he could be put on a canvas, I want to return to the original photo before cropping. Thank you :-)

    Hello, troy_t!

If you crop the photo, the original photo will always be there. You can crop photos on the Album and then use Photo Editor. It is a standard editing program that is provided with your Sony Xperia Z5. If you crop a photo and then save the cropped photo, the original photo will always be there. I can assure you that if you use the standard Photo editing program to crop a photo, the original photo will always be there, even if it was cropped. You can make as many photos cropped the image you want to crop as you want, because the original photo will always be there, even if you may have saved a version cropped the image you wanted at the origin of the crops.

  • How to delete a picture library "referenced" without deleting the original photos in the application which is used to compensate for my projects?

I made the mistake of setting up Apple Photos on my Mac Pro using the library option "referenced" (which is where my computer file are not copied in the Photos). However, throughout the year, I started to do the 'projects' in pictures by which I copied some files of original photos in the Photos app. My library is now made up of a mixture of many referenced files and some originals copied into the app.

Now I did some heavy reorganization and clean up the photos in my computer folder, but obviously none of these changes can be found in the photos referenced in the Photo app.

My goal now is to started using iCloud Photos but I want to do with a clean slate (i.e. without using one of the current referenced library that I have pictures).

    I have two questions:

    (1) is there a way to Photos to delete ONLY the pictures that are files referenced and not the originals that are copied into the app?

    (2) if the above is not possible, then what happens to my projects if I simply delete all the photos I have in the app? I'll always be able to see the photos of the calendar, that I did for example?

I'm afraid that if I delete my entire library I will not be able to access my projects more in the future. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can manage this?

    Thank you very much.

    A

You can consolidate all of the photos that are referenced. If you have used photos referenced in the projects (calendars, books), select the photo in your photo library and use the command "file > consolidate."  This will copy the original referenced in your photo library.

To find all the files referenced requiring consolidation of create a smart album:

    File > new Smart Album

Set the constraint for the album 'Photo is referenced.

Now you have all the photo referenced in an album. You can select the photos in this album and either use ' file > consolidate "to copy in the library or press the ⌘⌫ key combination to delete the picture from the library.

Before you consolidate or remove a photo referenced, using ' file > reveal in Finder ' to view the original file.  This way you can remove the copy on your disk after you have removed the photo from your photo library.  If the referenced file is left behind, pictures will not remove.

If you want to use your photo library with iCloud photo library, it is essential to consolidate the pictures referenced, because referenced photos cannot download on iCloud photo library.

  • Original photos on my iPad pro

My original photos are on my iPad Pro. Whenever it syncs with iCloud it replaces pictures I deleted on my Mac (El Cap) and other iOS devices.  I don't want the originals on my iPad.   I have hard to recognize anything apparently on the iPad. When I select remove them, I get a message that pictures will be deleted on all devices.  Does include the cloud of pictures?  Does include my Mac?  Tell me what to do please?

    Patti

If you use iCloud photo library on your iPad Pro, your Mac and other iOS devices, the original copy of your photos is in iCloud, and devices are just the caching of copies of it (either in original resolution or optimized). By its design, addition or removal of a photo using one of your devices adds to or removes icloud then adds or removes the other devices. This is normal. Did you see it or not?

I did not have the Swedish version of Lightroom, but as with most of the keyboard shortcuts, the shortcut for the before image corresponds to a menu item, so you can look there. In your version of Lightroom, choose View > before / after and see what keyboard shortcut is listed as the order before only in this submenu.
