Storage of original photos of full resolution in iCloud and IMac

Hi all.

I have what I think, it is a very simple question, but for the life of me cannot find a definitive answer.

I have a librurary of photo on my iMac. (don't have not yet updated for sierra)

I would like to support this thesis / store the originals in ICloud AND keep them on my mac.

SO I think that the obvious thing to do is select "optimize storage" in the settings of cloud photo which clearly says that they will be in the cloud and the computer. But here's the question...

If my IMac is low on space will start serving the original photos so that they are FAIR to Icloud?

If so, what is the threshold of how much space it starts to do this?

and if I recover my space again once on the iMac will be the original re download back to my iMac?

Thanks in advance people.

You may not use the setting 'Optimize storage' - select ' download originals for the Mac ", if you want than the originals, to be stored locally on the Mac and on iCloud.

So that 'download originals to the Mac' is activated, all of the original will be kept on your Mac as well.

It will not start original purge, as long as you keep "Optimize storage disabled".

Optimization of the storage with the storage management is automatic.  Photos will download the originals if you need and remove, if more storage is needed. You cannot control this.

iCloud library is no backup. It is a synchronization service to keep all your libraries on different devices synchronized and updated. If you accidentally delete photo from your library, it is not possible to restore from iCloud. Deletion can be synchronized to all devices and iCloud, so the photo has disappeared everywhere.  You need a backup separate from your library on an external drive, even if you use iCloud photo library.

  • How to remove Photos from the iPhone/iPad/iCloud and no pictures

How to take a photo with my iPhone/iPad, allow it to synchronize with Photos on my Mac via iCoud, then delete from my iPhone/iPad/iCloud and removes any Photos on Mac? I want to save the photo on your computer and save space on small devices?

I keep seeing articles on the iCloud market turn but it seems the photos all return on the devices once restarted. I want to iCloud on use as a conduit to get the photos to my computer, not as a large storage space. I want the Photos app on my Mac where all the photos are filled and stored and choose those which is left each device.

Right now they are all in the pictures on the Mac, but I'm worried if I remove it from my iPhone/iPad that they will disappear from Photos on the Mac. I don't understand the new Photos app with all the missing features of iPhoto.

    Thank you!

You can not that's not how works iCloud photo library - it is not a conduit but a total synchronization service whose entire raison d'etre is to keep libraries connected identical - all changes made on any device (addition, deletion or modification) are made on all devices. For devices with limited memory, using optimized photos

If this isn't what you want then use another service - USB import, iTunes sync, MyPhotoStream for example each do different things and everyone can move photos from one device to another

And Photos lack a lot of features iPhoto form - in fact much more features than iPhoto including iCloud library there like a bigger and better editing capability and better external editing capability and so on

  • Where can I find my original photo after editing to the organizer and the saiving it

I am brand new to photoshop elements.  I edited a photo in the editor and saved with a different name.  Now, I can't find the original image.  What happened to him?

When you work in the Organizer in PSE13, by default you will see a display of thumbnails where each thumbnail is enlarged without text, name of file or details.

It is a new view in version 13. You can switch the display mode to the old vision "detailed", where the tile is smaller, but indicated with the file name and details if you have enabled this option in the menu "view". To move, use the view menu or the shortcut Ctrl D.

When you have edited a photo of the Organizer, the new image you created is linked to the original, they are in a "set" version Only the most recent version is displayed by default. When you have switched to the 'detailed view', there is a small triangle on the right of the thumbnail. Click on it, and all versions will be displayed next.

    Is that what you want?

If you have created a set of version, a small icon should appear on the top of the page thumbnail even country in no detailed view.

  • How to force the download of photos full resolution on iOS?

I get conflicting information on what the iCloud iOS Photos ' setting 'Download and keep the originals' does. " It doesn't seem to download original versions of my pictures of my iCloud library.

I want to force all photos at full resolution in my library iCloud of Photos to download for my iPad so I can view them offline. I put "Download and keep the originals", but only thumbnails low resolution are on the device. If I click on the photo when you are connected to the Internet, it downloads pictures full resolution.

I try this on an iPad Pro with 256 GB of storage. My photo library takes about 70 GB on my Mac (~ 9 000 pictures) and I have 150 GB free on the iPad.

    Thank you

What is the size of your library on iCloud?

If you had previously optimized enabled, your iPad has now communicate with iCloud for each image and reinstall the version with the full version.

This can take days depending on the size of your library.

  • My images full resolution stay in my photo library iCloud after downloading the originals on my Mac?

    Good afternoon

I am currently downloading my entire photo library on my Mac from my iCloud Photo Library - I want to save the originals on a hard drive external.

I've always had the value "optimize storage space", will be the full resolution original images stay in the cloud after the originals have downloaded on my Mac?

Most of them is shot in RAW format and I still want their cloud to use Lightroom without having to import them all into LR first.

    Thank you, Aimee

Yes, iCloud library still retains full resolution photos, unless you delete them

  • Videos and photos full resolution will not download

My iPhone has the option 'download photos in full resolution' is enabled. I decided to do the same thing for my iPhone but when I went to the photos app on my ipad, he said not "enough space". I had 22 GB of free space on my ipad. My library is only 17 concerts. But it refuses to download videos and photos in full resolution. I even tried turning off iCloud photo library, remove all local copies of my photos and videos, turn it back on and selecting 'download full resolution '. Same question. My next option is to restore my iPad for a clean install, but I rather not do. Any ideas?

Performing a restore of backup can erase some extra storage space, but...

Download a library of 17 GB, the memory load to the Photos app, on a device with only 22 GB of free space will leave enough space free work, so the warning is OK - you have not enough free storage.

Go to settings > general > storage & use iCloud > storage management and see if you can remove some unused documents and apps to create more free space. Otherwise, use an optimized library and full resolution images will be downloaded when you need to view or modify.

  • Enough storage but still no full resolution Photos Please HELP me GUYS! : ()

    so here's my problem.

in my iCloud, I got about 29, 7 GB of photos. 4640 pictures and 517 videos.

on my phone it says 30, 4660 535 1 GB photos and videos.

so first of all, I got 10 GB of storage in my iCloud left, why he isn't back from the photos a vids upward?

but the biggest problem is the following. I got about 9 GB of free storage on my iPhone 6. The settings are on "full Resolution of store.

But if I'm turning the icloud photoservice die (because it is * terryfiing and I want to go back to the classic backup) it says "500 coulnd't photos and videos stored on the device.» va overview of low resolution should be deleted. WTH? Is there enough storage on my freakin device? Please help me guys.

I can just reset my phone cause there a photos not ok icloud and I can't coast round it out because there is a picture not ok on the phone. and every time I want to look for a picture of a few weeks, that it loads icloud is so boring. I curse the day I activated the function...

Have you checked the album "recently deleted?  You may have items there are still in need of storage. Try, if empty this album will allow to download all items. If you can free storage in this way, try again to turn pff iCloud photo library.

Before you turn off the iCloud service, disable 'Optimize storage', it is now possible and wait for the items to download to your iPhone.

If it still does not work, you have a computer as well?

Then connect to your iCloud to www.icloud.com web page on your computer and launch the Photos.app it.

The Photos.app allows you to download all the photos and videos in a folder on your computer to back up everything on your computer.   Once you are sure you have copies of work of all the photos and videos remove some of the pictures that you don't need on your iPhone using the web interface.  Delete enough information to be able to disable 'optimization of the storage.

  • How to export a full size, full resolution Photos photo?

    Background:

I am a very literate Mac user, but have NEVER used iPhotos or Photos - initially because I didn't like how they seized my photos and hid in a place where it took an expert user to show me where they were.

Meanwhile, my cousin, who is 77, has all his pictures in Photos.  They were originally in iPhoto, but after that its database has become corrupted and all the photos that have been "disappeared": she spent several hundred $$ to Apple store for them to create a new database and search and restore all the pictures, (of course all its manifestations and albums "disappeared" in the process) she ended up with 6 or 7 duplicates of many of his photos and told to go home and remove duplicates that she tried to fol (its 3000 original photos became 15 000 pictures after the "repair")

During this time, she would be now as export a couple of full-size, full resolution photos on his desk so that she can download them to print.  Could someone guide me please for a quick and simple tutorial on how to achieve?  I may go beyond helping him do this tomorrow and could probably figure it out - but it would be great if a kind person could tell me how to do this for her.

Thank you and happy holidays to you all.

    Hi Pariseau,

That's what I do, there are probably other ways.

    (1) in the Photos, click on the image to select it, click the 'invisible' box below and type a recognizable title:

    (2) press ENTER, leave the selected image and pull down the file menu:

    (3) choose export > export then 1 Photo... (or to the Unmodified Original export... If you have changed the original and that you want to export an unedited version.)

    You will get this window:

You can switch between different file formats, but by selecting a JPEG quality and size will give you the biggest and least file compressed.

Under file naming, choose use title so that your exported file will have the name you gave it in step 1. Click Export.

    (4) you will then get a dialog box that allows you to choose the folder in which you want to export to, but crucially (and wrongly IMHO) does not allow you to name the file at this stage:

But you are good to go because you gave the image of a title in step 1, then choose a folder (office here) and go ahead and click Export.

This is where your photo will end up, and it should be the same size as the original:

Hope this helps, happy holidays to you too.

  • Determine if the full resolution pictures Srored on computer.

I've been using my Mac with "Mac storage optimization" for storing photos in iCloud. I want these pictures to the iCloud for my wife, a different Apple ID account. My underetanding is that the photos can be trasmet to an iCloud to another account on the back-end iCloud. So the best optoon seems to be to connect to her iCloud on my Mac account and upload photos to her iCloud by using Photo account. My question is how can I now that the upload will be pictures full resolution and not the photos low-resolution bit bulky?

    Hello D.Pass.

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple. I understand that you want to export all or part of your photos in the Photos app from your iMac to an other iCloud account. I'm happy to give you advice on how to achieve this.

There are two ways this could happen.

First option is to disconnect from iCloud in your user account in the iMac, and then sign in with your wife iCloud account.

Since you currently have the "optimize Mac storage" turned on, you will have all of your photos and original videos on your iMac. To download the pictures and videos on your original iMac, make sure you have enough storage in your iMac to upload all your pictures, open the Photos app, choose Photos > Preferences, and select to download the originals of this Mac. Wait until all photos have been uploaded. Then log on your iCloud account in system preferences > iCloud.

Now, you can connect with your wife iCloud account. And configuring iCloud photo library in the iCloud in system preferences options panel > iCloud.

Second option is to export all your photos from the Photos app in your user account. Then add them too account app picture of your wife to its user, if his account is in the same iMac, or another Mac or PC.

Here is an article with detailed instructions on how to export photos from the photos app:

    Hello

I have an iPhone 6, which currently has no free space. For example if I go to take a picture, I'm greeted by pop up saying that I have more storage and need to manage to clear space.

I have a 50 GB of space icloud, but appears not to me will benefit all. How can I make my iPhone the icloud allows to store photographs instead of on my phone?

  • Reduce the storage occupied by photos in Lightroom

My question is for Lightroom Mobile of iOS. I wonder if there is a way to reduce the mobile storage occupied by photos in Lightroom.

To reduce storage in LrM needs:

    • Do not set the edition offline in collections
    • Do not enable the preference download at full resolution
    • Reduce the number of collections that are synchronized to LrM, or less photos, videos
    • Disable auto add options for photos and videos and manually import
