Outlook EXPRESS out of control

I just compose a long response to someone.  I hit SEND, through spell checker and when he finished, I suddenly had an hourglass which was bouncing or flashing and can't do anything, as well as the response I sent did not send.  I don't have any way to save this long answer and therefore cannot get our program.  Any suggestions?

I just finished, I thought, by sending this message to help and he disappeared so I'm returning in the hope of getting an answer to this problem.  It is once again, Outlook EXPRESS, NOT Outlook.

I am running XP Pro w/SP3.  Thank you!

You are most likely out of luck. No matter when you're writing a long message, once you start it and type a few words, you must file. Save as to save what you have started. After that, the file | Save or Ctrl + S each paragraph or so update the recorded message. If you do not do this, nothing is saved when something like that happens.

It's the same with many e-mail clients. Thunderbird has an automatic backup every X minutes option. OE has never had such an option.

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

I didn't know there was a synchronization process. Now, I can not my mail on my iPad. Tried to reset, but can not get mail on each device. I have Thunderbird 38.3.0. Jump here (nothing Bruce suggested is false), I did a search and found this old article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/245419), which indicates that there is a bad entry under the identity key in the registry (see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx for background).  So if it's a big problem, you can do the steps suggested in this article and that will fix it.  Or if you have just one account, then backup your settings and the identity key and then delete the identity key and then start OE and it will establish a new, and you can then set up your account again, and then import the messages from the older directory.  But it does not indicate the major corruption, so you can just ignore it.

Can someone help me solve this problem? I have Microsoft XP Professional on my computer.  Thank you.

A common cause of this is to have your program configured antivirus to analyze the messages, including outgoing mail.  If you can completely uninstall the AV program, and then reinstall it without the analysis feature mail.  If you can't do that, turn off scanning messages.  You will be just as safe.

When I get emails on outlook express I get a time-out before you finish download, and whenever I turn it on it the same thing happens. I have an email with a large attachment. I increased the time to receive the maximum of 5 minutes, but it will not download.

You can access your email through your email provider's website?  This way you could delete it.  You can also set up a message rule that if a message exceeds a certain size (and which has a large number), and then delete it from the server.  But then, you won't know who it was, so what matters.  You can also telnet to the server and delete (see http://techhelp.santovec.us/pop3telnet.htm).
