Overhead costs in hypervisor by vSwitch

What level of overhead is created by each vSwitch in hypervisor?

Ranjna Aggarwal says:

Thank you rickardnobel,

Tell me one thing more usually several vSwitches are used in Production environments or only as little as possible.

I tend to be very similar to what a.p. described above. A client I help right now with a new environment will be something like:

vSwitch0 - management and vMotion, using Active / Standby - two vmks and two vmnic, VLAN and different IP

vSwitch1 - for iSCSI - two vmk and two vmnic for active/unused help

vSwitch2 - for production VM networks - several exchanges with different VLANS, vmnic two/maybe four - no not decided

and possible:

vSwitch3 - test VMs, where the wish is to totally physically separation and no risk for the VM traffic test to disrupt the production of virtual machines.

So more than 4-5 vSwitches is often not necessary, but possible. As for overload memory that seems to me a minimum, so it's just a combination of physical quantity of ports vmnic and keep the virtual networking configuration, flexible, safe and simple.

  • How can I include overhead in my project?

Hello everyone I hope you are well. I'm looking for a way within the primavera to include overhead costs such as administrative tasks, etc. For now I'm just add 15% on all resources that I don't know wherelese I can incorporate these costs other than simply adding them in as a resource or spending, is there a better way? Any help will be much appreciated.

    Pleasantries,

    Barry Lawson

    Hi Barry,.

In the primavera, there is one type of activity called "Level of effort" to set the current as activity as you said "task Administrative.

You can create this type of activity and assign overhead costs to this activity.
    It will be useful.

Him has found the answer myself. I give here the query for others to use.

    SELECT COST_ELEMENT_ID, SUM (MACD. ACTUAL_COST)
    OF MTL_CST_ACTUAL_COST_DETAILS MACDONALD
    WHERE COST_ELEMENT_ID IN (1,2,3,4)
    AND MACD.ORGANIZATION_ID = 'Organization_id. '
AND MACD. INVENTORY_ITEM_ID = "ID of the item.
    AND TRANSACTION_ID = (SELECT MAX (MACD2. TRANSACTION_ID)
    FROM APPS. MTL_CST_ACTUAL_COST_DETAILS MACD2
WHERE MACD2. INVENTORY_ITEM_ID = "ID of the item.
    AND TRUNC (MACD2. TRANSACTION_COSTED_DATE)<= 'the="" desired="">
    AND MACD2.ORGANIZATION_ID = 'Organization_id')
    COST_ELEMENT_ID GROUP

This query will give you various costs such as material, cost, resource, the cost of overhead cost, cost and overhead material cost of a particular point of treatment.

  • Overhead of Movie Clips vs Sprites

I want to understand something, and there is no other reason that I just want to understand.

Again and again, I read that the Sprites have fewer resources than to a Clip. But nowhere someone explains why. They say just use a Sprite if the MovieClip doesn't have a timeline as a Sprite is less demanding in CPU.

Let's say you want to remove an object from a library and change its size. (and let's say that the symbol editing mode has only a picture)

    var myMC:MovieClip = new thing();

    addChild (myMC)

    myMC.scaleX = 1.2

    myMC.scaleY = 1.2

    COMPARED TO

    var mySprite:Sprite = new thing();

    addChild (mySprite)

    mySprite.scaleX = 1.2

    mySprite.scaleY = 1.2

What happens in memory, which makes the MovieClip have more overhead? Something get more exported when the movie is published with instantations unnecessary MovieClip rather than Sprites? Should the Flash Player do additional with the statements of MovieClip stuff that if these same MovieClips were declared as Sprites? Or????????

I realize the difference in overhead is probably negligible with some of these objects. But if you have several hundred then why is a Sprite better? What happens with a MovieClip which does not happen with a Sprite that increases the amount of overhead?

Thanks for any help to understand this!

The schedule and the need for the dynamic nature of it. There is no timeline in a Sprite. This is 1 frame with as many layers as you like (objects on the display list).

Probably as much as the calendar and the futility of dealing with functions, MovieClip is a class dynamic, while Sprite isn't. It's huge. Anything marked dynamics is subject to expansion and by reducing on the fly, which causes memory allocation predictive excess. A Sprite does not suffer what you cannot change its default nature without its extension, and therefore, the compiler knows exactly how to allocate effectively for it.

MovieClips are usually created in the Flash IDE. A host uses the timeline and on a number of images creates any type of animation they want. The MovieClip class to support a large number of features a Sprite isn't. You can't gotoAndPlay() on a Sprite, etc..

This does not mean that a Sprite has no frames. You can assign an Event.ENTER_FRAME loop to a Sprite and see that he works at the document frame rate and therefore you can liven things up with the code inside a Sprite just as if it were a MovieClip. You cannot create a chronology in the code, so you don't need the functions requiring only a timeline.

The reduction of these costly needs (dynamic and extra functionality) are overhead costs that result in a degradation in performance.

  • Migration of LabManager 4.0.2

Us seeking to migrate to vCloud Director since LabManager is interrupted. Initially, there are a lot of missing features that caught LabManager supported and we made use of. I just want an amd catch up get an update on the missing features, etc prior to this plan to migrate:

    Linked clones / Deltas.

They still lie? We cannot afford or justify the purchase of several petabytes of disk space for our storage array deploy the same amount of virtual machines.

    Snapshots-

Can take us pictures the same way we can in Lab Manager?

    Licenses-

Do we have to buy more Enterprise or Enterprise licenses for the VDS so vCloud Director of operator, or we can run on ESXi licensing Standard?

    MSSQL-

Microsoft SQL Server taken in charge as the backend of vCloud Director or is it still an Oracle database?

    Cost-

Is the cost model identical to labmanger where you buy the product/support and then a license for each host? I read the website of vmware vCloud Director and I saw 'includes a license for 25 managed virtual machines. Support and subscription sold separately. ».  We are currently deploying around 1200 vm. Will we have to pay extra for the amount of vm that deploy us?

Thanks for your responses and comments

    Hey Jake,

Sorry I rΘpondit not earlier... just busy teaching classes

The good news is you don't have to really worry as support are available in 2013.  See here for more information: http://www.vmware.com/support/policies/lifecycle/enterprise-application/index.html#policy_lab_manager_4

Linked clones: as you know by now, are not currently supported with vCD.  Again, a lot can change in two years so I wouldn't get too worked up again.

Snapshots: I was not able to find a vCD interface to invoke snapshots.  That being said, you * could * do it with the vSphere client - it is simply not a good idea, IMO, because you might have unforeseen challenges with stupid things like the migration of DRS.

Licenses: You can settle for standard vSwitches, but distributed vSwitches are highly recommended - if for no other reason, ease of maintenance.  You * can * definitely use standard switches, but you will be limited in regard to the types of network pool Org you can provide and your administrative overhead costs will go through the roof for simple and light to the vNetwork infrastructure changes because you need to change all standard switches on all hosts of ESXi - which opens the door to an administrative error.  So, if it is not already, become familiar with the scripts using the vCLI or PowerCLI.

DB: Oracle is currently the only dB supported for the vCD.  I hope that this will change in the future.

Cost: vCD is not approved by the host is * only * one license per computer virtual.

Unfortunately, I can't disclose any info re: future has other that which already announced.

  • Flex overheating 14

I had problems of overheating for the last days, with my 14 Flex, which has reduced my battery life 1/3 of what it was (2 hours now, compared to 6 hours before). The fan has been all the time. I have been using SpeedFan to check the temperature of the CPU and the GPU, which are respectively 70 and 61 degrees Celsius.

I've had this laptop in February of this year, and I really need during this exam period.

Check your Google Chrome Extensions or plug-ins as well. If problems continue to exist with Google Chrome, Google Chrome uninstall it and then reinstall it.

You can also try these settings to reduce overhead costs, these features are not needed in my opinion and my experience of navigation is fine without them. These settings will reduce the overall workload. There are many things that you can try here.

Keep in mind that you can always use Internet Explorer in your reviews and figure out later if you can't find the problem in time. Or maybe Firefox.

  • How is managed using DMA FIFO (target host) host matrix

    Hi people,

I'm trying to pass an array of values of the host to the FPGA using DMA FIFO. Let's say 20000 items in the table. My FIFO host side can contain only 16000 items or almost. The data will be written element by element regardless of the size of the table or do I need to partition the table in small paintings before writing the FIFO method? Let's say that I write for the FIFO with berries small, 1000-element. The FIFO will read 1 element both of the side FPGA so the stream is blocked until I have at least 1000 free items on the FIFO method write, how he writes every 1000 the next setpoint at the same time? Or target values will be written permanently as soon as the individual elements are erased by the number of available items to write?

    Hi Nathan,

Sorry for the late update, but I just thought that I should follow. I followed your advice and try it tested just for me (I probably should I have done it before posting). Turns out that the data table will write even if there is not enough empty elements to contain the table in its entirety. However, it always crashes until enough information is read and erased from memory on the side FPGA for the whole table. So if it's data that are constantly being played, it's always better transmitting data through in the form of smaller tables if you do not want to increase the amount of memory FIFO host OCCUPIES on your system. However, if you can afford the memory while you mentioned, you can always increase the depth of the FIFO on the host side. As I understand it, try to write more big berries to a host to target FIFO buffer does not diminish overhead costs (as is the case with a target to host FIFO) as it still passes an element at a time to the FIFO of FPGA-side without worrying.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Kind regards

  • Passing values to sub VI and write data to controls

As part of a control for a VFD interface I am interfacing with via Modbus TCP, I wanted to try some of my code partition in a Subvi

However, in doing so, I will be very difficult to understand how I can read the current settings of player for the ramp up and down values and update these values in the front of my control.

The Vi sub is tested and works exactly as I want. Selection playback (system lock on pressed) reads the registers of the reader and exports controls and indicators. The indicators have been included because I didn't know how to move the data off the sub vi without them. Update of work to write the current value in the controls in the VFD logs.

However when I integrate my project more extensive this VI values are always represented by zeros if I lock switch. However, I see a momentary flash of the correct values after pressing the play button or if I change the closing operation changed, however, I would prefer that it to opperate in a mode of closing in order to reduce the overhead costs of communication on the disc.

    Hello

    A number of suggestions:

    1. use references and property nodes to define indicators FP of a Subvi (you can learn more here and here)

    2. do not put the indicators of production inside the case. When the case is not read, the VI generates the default values to the outputs and gives you the values null.

    Good luck

  • How to detect a TCPIP SOCKET lost with LabVIEW and NI-VISA

I use VISA functions in LabVIEW to communicate remotely with instruments on visa TCPIP SOCKET resources.   In general, this works well simply by creating a resource, from name to VISA Open then setting some attributes of the session.   Sometimes an instrument will reset or pedaled and this power, I've noticed, is that I have to call a VISA Close, then reopen the resource so that it can communicate again or close LabVIEW and run again.   If you use only VISA Open without calling a VISA near first of all you cannot communicate with the target.   The problem is that I have no way to detect this condition.   I tried to always call a close VISA before VISA Open and it seems to work for this condition, but it seems weird to always close a session before you open it.   Why no VISA OPEN does not work under this condition, and is it possible to detect this situation?

It works this way because this is the behavior of TCP. A TCP connection is a connection dedicated between two end points. Hand unfortunately get an error of a read operation or in writing there is no way to determine if the fly othe of the connection is still there. You must close the connection, because otherwise the VISA will continue to use th eold connection that is no longer valid. Close it allows the cleaning system the dead link.

If you communicate very often, you could simply open the connection, have you stuff and close it. Overhead costs for the establishment of the new connection are not that much. If you use a constant flow of data then you will need to monitor errors and then reconnect by closing the old one and open a new connection that you have observed.

  • How to choose the maximum number of items for DMA FIFO to the R series FPGA

    Greetings!

I'm working on a project with card PCIe-7842R-R series FPGA of NOR. I use to achieve the fast data transfer target-to-host DMA FIFO. And to minimize overhead costs, I would make the size of the FIFO as large as possible. According to the manual, 7842R a 1728 KB (216KO) integrated block of RAM, 108 000 I16 FIFOs items available in theory (1 728 000 / 16). However the FPGA had compilation error when I asked this amount of items. I checked the manual and searched online but could not find the reason. Can someone please explain? And in general, what is the maximum size of the FIFO given the size of the block of RAM?

    Thank you!

    Hey iron_curtain,

You are right that the movement of large blocks of data can lead to a more efficient use of the bus, but it certainly isn't the most important factor here. Assuming of course that the FIFO on the FPGA is large enough to avoid overflowing, I expect the dominant factor to the size of reading on the host. In general, larger and reads as follows on the host drive to improve throughput, up to the speed of the bus. This is because as FIFO. Read is a relatively expensive operation software, so it is advantageous to fewer calls for the same amount of data.

Note that your call to the FIFO. Read the largest host buffer should be. Depending on your application, you may be several times larger than the size of reading. You can set the size of the buffer with the FIFO. Configure the node.

http://zone.NI.com/reference/en-XX/help/371599H-01/lvfpgaconcepts/fpga_dma_how_it_works/ explains the different buffers involved. It is important to note that the DMA engine moves data asynchronously read/write on the host nodes and FPGAs.

Let me know if you have any questions about all of this.

  • Experience with the acquisition of digital workflow series of ADC on SPI or Microwire

    Dear Forum,

I would like to acquire a digital stream via a connection series of two sons of an analog-digital chip such as AD7679. The device says it is compatible with SPI and Microwire to achieve protocols.

There are screws for the manipulation of these protocols series? And can I use a card in the series M as the PXI-6289 for this?

    Thank you!

    Hi cwierzynski,

Thanks for your post!  For your application, I highly recommend the USB-8451, designed to connect with SPI hardware.  You can program your application in LabVIEW using NOR-845 x driver, which installs several examples for you're going to get.

Theoretically you could do with a unit of the M series, because they have the ability of/s digital correlated (timed by the hardware).  You will have to implement the whole of the Protocol in the software yourself.  All up packets in the shape and alignment of the data will be done by programming, as well as addressing slaves. This would, of course, the overhead costs of any program running in Windows.  If you are interested in going this route, this forum should help you get started in the right direction.

  • Use of memory in a while loop with a xy chart

    Hi all

I have problems using memory with a vi that loops, records data and plots in a xy running chart.  I wrote it using shift registers and functions "subset of the table", which I assumed would reduce overhead costs, but apparently this is incorrect.  If it works for several days (which is normal, because it is above all a vi for follow-up and view a trouvreez process that runs continuously), it takes a few minutes only to stop the loop.  I guess it would eventually just stop working entirely.  I googled this problem and I see suggestions to auto-index or pre-allocate.  However, I would also like to plot each point as the tracks of the loop, so I need shift registers.  What I do use some convoluted pre-allocation, changing table and then insert into the table approach, or is there a better way?  Still working?

    Thanks in advance

  • Customers light rdp to windows server 2012

    Hello

I have a client with a Windows Server 2003 32-bit server acting as a mail server & DC, but also make nightly backups.

Users run desktop computers as well as laptops at the office, with some of them (sometimes) connect to the network from remote locations.

I am currently looking at upgrading their environment, in upgrading the server to 64-bit Windows 2012 and add Thin Clients for desktop users, so they can connect directly to the server that will help reduce overhead costs (such as the failure of HARD drive on desktop computers).

The question I have is if this Setup will work? Basically, I'm interested in Windows Server 2012 Server Essentials or Standard 64-bit with the necessary amount of RDP CAL this server will run exactly as the server running from 2003, in what will be the domain controller, Exchange server & perform nightly backups. In addition to this, I want to install MS Office with the necessary quantity of licenses.
However, I would like to know if it will work or if I am looking at a catch which will prevent users to connect to the server? Or office giving problems if Word is open for a user, it will not be open for the user to one another (the same issue with Outlook & Excel etc.)?

If there is no potential problem that prevents this configuration to work, can someone please point out to me what will be the problem and if there is a solution?

  • help understand the digital and graphical waveforms

Can someone explain to me how digital waveform working with NOR?

I did a channel physical and wired to a DAQMx create channel then I have it connected to a NSamp of 1Chan ereading Wfm DAQMx and then wired it to a graph of digital waveforms.

I put digital and graphical digital waveform playback in a loop.

When I run it, it seems to me only to get 1 sample on the graph per loop iteration.

The desired output is to add each digital sample as a function of delay which can connected and or scrolls in time to examine what is happening with the signals.

    Where is my mistake?

    My VI is attached.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also another quick question, is there a 'comment' as a command / / c or ' in VB?  Thank you.

    Hi Henry,.

Thanks for the post! It seems that you are having problems with the acquisition and the graphic representation of digital data using DAQmx and LabVIEW. You are right that the type of program you have returned a single sample every loop iteration, because you make an acquisition without buffer, timed by the software. This means that the program reads a sample for each channel, whenever the DAQmx reading VI is called, which will depend on the speed of the software will run. In addition, when you view this data, the chart will only display data acquired for this iteration of the loop (that is, in this case, a single sample).

To accomplish what you want will take some extra work and overhead costs in the software, but you can essentially use a shift register and accumulate samples that your program runs. There is a practice done just VI to do this kind of thing with digital signals and is called DWDT Append Digital Signals.vi (this can be found in the palette of functions in respect of programming"Wfm Digital Waveform"). I created a small example which you should be able to run that does this. What actually happens is that the waveform is rewritten each time with new data added in addition to the data passed in. To be able to scroll back and view this data, I turned off automatic scale on the x axis (if it is enabled, it will constantly increase and tries to show all the data at the same time) and selected just a data window to display. In addition, I added a horizontal scroll bar to scroll through the review data.

And to answer your question about the code comments in LabVIEW, this can be done with a clear Structure of the diagram. You will find this structure in your palette of functions in respect of programming' Structures. Using this structure, you can select a part of your block diagram to disable and switch to the active state of wire through the or add different features that will run. Hope this helps and good luck!
