• Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on Dell XEON with SSD slow initial Pagemaker graphics file loads, very quickly thereafter

  I use Pagemaker 7 on a mixture of Windows 7 Pro, 32 & 64 bit Dell i5 and i7 PC hard drive to work with complex graphics files.

  These computers all display the chart pages quickly Pagemaker - about 1 second for each complex page.

  A new Dell Xeon with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with 8 GB, 250 GB SSD and 1 TB hard drive works Pagemaker 7 OK. Logically, it should be useful faster than our other PC.

  However, the initial display of complex graphical pages can take 20 seconds per page. Later, as I work in forward and backward through the pages of the same document, the graphical displays become instant - as if they were now in fast memory.

  The Xeon pilots have been verified also updated.

  SuperFetch and Windows Search are both "started"... but it makes no difference if they are 'off '. Manager tasks indicate > 6 GB 'Cached' and 'Available' with Pagemaker 7 and a graphic 128 MB .

  Pagination is "managed automatically for all readers" with 8 GB allocated on SSD.

  Please, no guidance on why the initial graphic display should be so slow when later it's instant?

  PageMaker 7.0.2 will not install on Windows 7 Home ultimate.  Microsoft Compatibility pages suggestion is to install a free upgrade from the seller, but it is not possible to install an update unless you can first install the main program. By clicking on the button 'INSTALL' has no effect whatsoever.

  It depends on your situation. If you have an available copy of Windows XP, you can do what Andre suggested above for free otherwise you must either upgrade or buy a copy of Windows XP that will be hard to find.

• Place denied images cause - Adobe Pagemaker 6.5 on Win7 Ultimate

  I'm in Pagemaker 6.5 on a PC with Win7 Ultimate. I don't use a lot of Pagemaker, but recently it stopped of allowing me to the images of the Place.  I can't drag-and - drop or place.  When I try, I get "cannot place this file. File contains invalid data. 8601:29766."
  I tried to uninstall and reinstall PM and still have the same problem.  I would like to know if there is a fix for this before you go out and buy / subscribe to InDesign since I rarely need to do the layout.
  An Adobe technical support engineer can let me know if it's fixable?  Thank you

  I am trying to convert Pagemaker 7.0 files to PDF and cannot do without a PostScript printer driver.

  The driver on the PM installation disc will not install.

  I'm under 64-bit Windows 8. There are a few options:

  1. in my case, I use Adobe Creative Suite CS3 as well. It comes with Adobe Acrobat 8.0, which must be upgraded to version 8.1.3 or about 64-bit support. This, however, works OK with PageMaker 7.0.

  2. There is a method using a printer driver called "imagesetter MS Publisher' which is actually Postscript and will do the job. You will need to do some research on it: I remember using this method when installing PM 7.0 under the preview release. I also noticed that there is a 'PS Microsoft class driver"Windows 8. Maybe it's worth a try.

  3. try a third free PDF writer. I have recommended Nitro Reader for some customers.

  I keep only PageMaker to open the old client files, and anything but trivial changes, I migrate files to InDesign (which opens the MP files date back as far as PM6). You can be a better buy InDesign (if only an older version) and do the same thing - it is a much better program and PM is blowing out of the water.

  Yes! Windows 8 will run all the software that you know in Windows 7, including the applications mentioned.

  Windows 8 RT, which is built for mobile tablets (like the Surface) is the only version of Windows 8, which is not backward compatible with applications that are running on an earlier version of Windows.

  Pagemaker 6 or 7 is compatible with the following versions of Windows: Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

  You need the exact fonts of your colleague, and even in this case, it may not work if they subset fonts in the pdf file. Your best bet is to get your colleague to copy the text for you in a format that you can use, but even in this case, you will need the fonts, pagemaker is rather limited in the fonts that can be used and required a lot of special fonts in order to work.

  I have a MacPlus with pagemaker files it contains.  The files are 30 years - and still work.  However, the computer is dying.

  My goal is to transfer files (many of them) on an iMac G5 computer, and I want to know if InDesign opens to them.

  I remember well, you will have to open in a newer version of Pagemaker, but this version does not work on a Macintosh. InDesign (I think) only opens 6.0, 6.5 and 7 pm.

  I just downloaded the trial version for InDesign CC (2015).  I went through several forums/articles on how to download previous versions of CC, people have posted.  However, I don't see the 'Previous Version' option under 'All the Apps' of the creative cloud.  Is there yet another way to get InDesign CS6 I need to open or convert a PageMaker 6.5 file?

• Y at - it application for the DISPLAY of old PageMaker files?

  I have dozens (hundreds?) of old PageMaker files and I'd like to see what they are before you delete. In the hope there is an app that will allow me to VIEW them. I don't have to open them... just see. (I wouldn't MIND open, but all I have is the latest version of InDesign, which won't.)

  If you have a subscription to the latest version of Indesign (DC), you can download IDCS6 which will open Pagemaker documents.
  No version of word will do better than the text "corrupted".

  Just for the record, "Adobe" is the name of the company. "Acrobat" is the name of the software which you post to the form.

  Not to mention that Pagemaker, the only program that will open a pagemaker file is InDesign CS6. From there, you can export the file to PDF, you can then open in Acrobat.
