  Thank you for taking the time to answer.  In fact, thanks to some Google-ing, was able to find and correct the problem.  The problem started when I tried to install and check one of Teradata JDBC driver.  When I tried to stop and restart the service, he shuts down.  Then would start again.

  I discovered the SERVER. JOURNAL file should tell you exactly what is wrong, and he did.  He showed an invalid character in 4 places in the file of neo - datasource.xml (in the C:\ColdFusion9\lib folder).  So my options were to remove invalid characters, or replace the file neo - datasource.xml with the last good backup of work.

  When this file is corrupted, the. BAK version is used, and then he'll corrupt when you attempt to stop - resume service, and you end up with no backup (.) BAK file).   If safe mode does not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

  Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

  Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

  When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
