Palm Desktop 6.2 crash.

I recently moved from a desktop Dell (windows XP) with Palm Desktop 4.1.4 for my Palm Tungsten E2.  I had a desktop software and Pocket PC Palm since before 2000 (back then on Mac) and so I have a lot of information of calendar and contact I desperately need to consult and maintain and never had any problem with handheld computers, desktop computers, or synchronization.

My new laptop is a HP G61, with Athlon II dual-core M300 2.0 ghz running on Windows 7 (64-bit), which until now has been a dream to use.

My first installation of Palm Desktop 6.2 on/in respect of 3 January.  He's okay, and then I went to synchronize with my handheld via bluetooth (which a lot of features were again removed from this new version).  For the next few days all was well with the basics but 2 modules does more (DocsToGo and Worlmate).  Then I start the desktop computer on Friday morning (Jan 8) and there was no calendar, address book, memo, ToDo, etc...  The only thing the desktop software offered me was Media (said missing 2 files to work correctly) and install it.

I tried to reinstall it, and then I removed (using uninstaller) and re-installed, then I uninstalled and deleted the folders/files with Palm in it and re-installed.  Always alone gives me these 2 icons and menu Options gives me no choice at startup either.

What can I do to get a Palm Desktop to work on my new laptop AND sync with my handheld?  Please help me.

Right click on the new icon go to compatibility and check the run as admin. Open Palm Desktop of this icon, then see if you see the other Palm Desktop application.

I've been using Desktop 6.2 with Vista for several months.  He seems to have been some bad old data on my TX as Desktop crashes when I go to view months in the calendar for August 2008 and earlier versions, but otherwise very good.

Starting last week, the application not fully open with a box indicating "Palm Desktop by Access has stopped working" in 1/2 second open strike.  I've been able to hotsync with no problems and no change.  I deleted the app and reinstalled after the re-download of Palm.  Also, I tried to log in as an administrator without help.

Someone at - it suggestions?  Thank you very much.

Sounds like the calendar data is currupted. Try to go in Documents on the PC, then Palm OS Desktop folder, then your Hotsync username, you should see a datebook folder, rename it. Then try to open Palm desktop and see if it works. If it does not change the conduit for synchronization and office handheld overwrits agenda. If the problem comes back, you will need DbFixIt to clean the curruption on the TX

I tried to uninstall and reinstall the BB Desktop Software (downloaded a version of the AT & T website October). I could live with do not transfer calendar data - that I have to back my contacts and can not do.

Help. I have 3000 + contacts I need to get more.
I tried the blue tooth beaming my contacts from my Palm Tungsten T5 to my BB "BOLD", but it fails (I think that the bluetooth of tungsten is not the Protocol for the "BOLD").
    Running Windows XP, SP2.

Managed to do work! I did events more than 1 month on my Palm device (I had to look at their database of support to get this operation works correctly) which reduced my total to 200. Clearly that removed the offender because all other events transferred via, and now it's the last of my data.

After installing Palm Desktop 6.2.2 version 4.1.4 on my laptop to Windows 8 for use with my Palm Tungsten E2, I now only 4 modules... Fees, Note Pad, media and install. Where have calendar, addresses, etc., disappear to?

Version 7.0.2 HotSync Manager also offers, USB, network and series, but NOT the Bluetooth in connection settings. I use an IVT BlueSoleil Bluetooth adapter and their driver/software version 8.0.395.0, which works very well with anything else.

GoneFishin6, I suggest you clean uninstall/reinstall Palm Desktop.

Your question is the first I've heard of.  Others report success with Win8.

These instructions are for Vista, but should work for Win8.

You first need to you a copy of your data to have just in case something happens. You can find your data files by clicking on start-> Documents-> Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop user name and right click and copy. Then go to the desktop of your PC, click on a blank spot block and select.

If this is the first time, you install Palm desktop and encounter a problem, go to the previous step. If you are not concerned about your data at this stage, go to the next step.

Now, you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove anything that has to do with Palm Desktop on your computer. Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below. [C:\Program Files\Palm or C:\Users\[Vista Palm connection name] \appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or PalmOne C:\Users\[Vista Login Name] \appdata * note you may need to show hidden folders to join appdata. To do than to go into your control panel and open folder options. Go to tab and uncheck hide hidden files.

When you use Palm desktop 6.2, look in my documents or documents and delete the folder Office of PalmOS. It is the location of the PD 6.2 data files.

Once this is done, you will need to remove certain keys in the registry of your PC operating system.

Word of warning, go here and removing the wrong thing can cause your PC to start, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel that you are not sure of yourself, see if you have a friend who can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to remove. To make sure that we have a good copy of the current registry, we make a backup of the registry.

Go to start on your PC in the search box type "regedit.exe" without the quotes.

Point peak COMPUTER, go to file-> Export. Should appear with a save as box. Current place of residence is fine, must be within My Documents, or save to a location that you will remember. In the name of the file in low type "backup [todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Then, the most difficult part.

The best way to ensure that your work with the right key, select the key that is installation quick palm and press delete on your keyboard. You will be asked, you of course. Say Yes. Do the same for all the keys below.

If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.

The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of the theses reg keys will not be here, but if they remove them)

    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer * Robotics\Pilot Desktop HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc. * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm

    Then, restart your computer.

Then, reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If request you a user name, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right of the screen to hotsync.

I copied my files and still nothing.  I reinstalled Palm Desktop and now the memos are still missing.

I don't have the installation path for the instance of WIndows 7 is c:\pgm files x86\Palm and also noted information has been written for C:\users\me\OneDrive\MyDesktop\Palm OS Desktop

    File names and sizes are:

    Memopad.dat = 2836 KB

    Memopad.mdb.bak = 100 KB

    Memopad.mdb = 100 KB

After discovering the OneDrive info, I thought I could have the system shutdown event a replication and corrupt it however, I played a bit to rename the memopad.dat to .old and still nothing seems to me my pads.   I copied my files Palm OS Desktop system in the Office of OS C:\users\me\OneDrive\MyDesktop\Palm to see if that would help and it did not.

Here is some info. For you.

Click on the following link to the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com Web page.
    http://www.Palm.com/us/support/Centro/centro_gsm/

There are links on the page the user Troubleshooting Guide, how to, downloads, etc.

The best way to protect your data is to export the data in each category of Palm Desktop in a separate folder on your PC.

Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that suits. Name it something like Palm Desktop data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on this page for the export procedure.

    http://www.Palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?id=28734

Make sure you only select everything for the beach in the export window.

With the data stored in the created folder, make a copy of this file and save it on a USB key, cd - rw or external hard drive.

Whenever you change in Palm Desktop, export the data that has been changed in this file and save again to external media.

With this process you can always import the data in Palm Desktop, whenever you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop, or if your computer/hard drive/device crash.

  • items lost during upgrade to Palm Desktop 6.2.2

    Hello

Just bought a Palm Pre, unlocked, a beauty.  Wanted to move the items from my Palm Desktop to the FRONT.  During the upgrade from my old, old Desktop 4.0.4 for Desktop 6.2.2 I lost all contacts, calendar etc events.  The datebook.dat file is there, but since my old Palm Treo broke down entirely (Palm could not repair it) I could not synchronize the installation of the new software.

The question is: How can I move my items the address.dat, dateboook.dat etc. for the new version of office.

Thanks muchly for all the good advice!

    Janko

You cannot use these data files to the point 6.2.

6.2 has a format of different file than previous versions and don't recognize these files.

What I would say, it is to copy your username folder in c-program files-Palm.

Paste this folder on the Windows desktop. With the help of delete Palm desktop 6.2 Control Panel-Add/Remove programs. Re-install Palm desktop that you had previously installed. Pick up the user name folder in the folder on the drive c. open palm desktop palm and see if your data is there.

If this is the case, export your data from backup. Here is a procedure for this.

The best way to protect your data is to export the data in each category of Palm Desktop in a separate folder on your PC.

Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that suits. Name it something like Palm Desktop data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on this page for the export procedure.

After you have your data backed up, install Palm desktop 6.2 and if data do not migrate to 6.2, use the import function in Palm desktop.

  • Can I run Palm Desktop 4.1.4 E or 4.2 on VISTA? Compatible?

When I go to Palm downloads and find 4.1.4 and 4.2 versions of Palm Desktop they both are compatible with Win XP and 2000, NOT Vista.

I don't want to run 6.2 on my Vista, even if it works, because they have problems with the calendar color and birthday reminders. I spoke with the support of Palm and a guy said, the solution is to install 4.2 and it works fine with Vista and have the birthday calendar reminder and color. Then the other type of support that I spoke to said that 4.1.4 E is an extended version and wih Vista and be better than 4.2.

I have a problem believing that downloading does not claim to be compatible with Vista. However, Palm said it works. I don't want to install this and have a major crash or computer compatibility issues.

Anyone tried 4.1.4 E with VISTA? It work?

None are compatible with Vista.  They will work with a Centro, but only under XP or 2000.  You're stuck with Palm Desktop 6.x on Vista, sorry.

  • Palm Vx - pocket computer crashed, please save my files

I have an old friend, a Palm Vx, which has served me well since 1999. I accidentally let the battery and now it won't Sync., well it sync normally, but no data are transferred - just quickly going through the routine - the handheld is empty, but alive and displays the Sync routine. I did a hard reset, uninstalled and installed the program on my laptop, check user names and replaced the .dat files that I keep manually as backups in a separate folder in Windows Explorer. I have personal data registered as births, death, travel, etc., in these files that I have to put it in a form; However, I can't do nothing to copy, export, open or read, including the .dat, .bak, .dba, .aba or .mpa file. Can someone help me move or convert the files listed below in another format/software that will open showing all my valuable recordings? Keep the Palm format is not important for me, I just need complete and readable information in any software: Excel, Word, Notepad, Internet Explorer, Adobe Reader, WordPerfect, Snagit editor or other software/converter that will give me my previous records. The files needed are:
    Address.dat
    datebook.dat
    Memopad.dat
    Notepad.dat
These documents contain, respectively, 384, 1 236, 78 and 2 KB of data. Palm tree on my laptop works perfectly, I just need to get the information in an another safe place to serve as a reference.
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3, USB for portable crib for synchronization.
    Thank you.

With Palm desktop closed, copy the .dat files in the respective folders in your user name on the PC. Paste the address.dat in the address file. If you see another file with the same name, overwrite it because your Palm desktop has no data.

Open Palm desktop and see if the data is there. If this does not work, try and use the import feature to try and import the .aba, .dba, .mpa file into the respective applications in the WFP office. Open Palm desktop, select address or contacts, select file - import and select the .aba file to import. ABA says AddressBookArchive.

Once you get back data in Palm desktop, I suggest to use the export function to save your data. It seems you have files to archive, but they are not current. Here is a procedure to back up your data recovery disaster.

The best way to protect your data is to export the data in each category of Palm Desktop in a separate folder on your PC.

Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that suits. Name it something like Palm Desktop data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on this page for the export procedure.

  • The Media button freezes in Palm Desktop!

I chatted with the guys at palm, and I'm getting nowhere fast!  I have a Centro through Verizon and everything works perfectly, except that the Media on the Palm Desktop button crashes whenever I try to go into it.  It will say "loading" on the bottom, but he never goes anywhere, and the rest of the program crashes while I have to end up using the Task Manager.  I have Vista, but I don't think that should I need to download update Vista palm offsite, because I just got the phone about 2 weeks ago.  The two guys on the cat both try to help me to clear up my registry and then I had to uninstall and reinstall office, but all without success.  3 hours of cat made me think that they know what they are talking about!  Does anyone else have this problem?  And, if so, how to solve?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your help, hardbeatz, but I finally realized my problem via the service line customer palm (didn't realize it's free in the first 90 days of purchase).  It turns out that the media on palm desktop program is not compatible with Vista when Vista has the Media Center suite loaded on this subject.  Not sure how that affects him, but obviously this is the case.  I don't have a laptop with Vista that doesn't have a Media Center on this subject, and I can run palm desktop on it perfectly.  So I can just sync to two computers, according to my needs and they work a challenge to palm to do, too.  Thanks again for your help!

Thank you people much more to Aceeca.com (Palm OS Garnet NEW manufacturers), the USB drivers for Vista, Windows 7 and 8 Win 64 bit operating systems are available.  There are many users Palm Desktop 4.x strives also to the declaration.

I have synced my TX my Vista64 laptop computer bits and Windows 8.1 HP spectrum X 2 hybrid successfully through my USB cable.

(NOTE: as of today, 01/08/2016 Aceeca site to be down for 'construction'.)  Drivers can also be found here: http://www.palmdr.com/windows-7-64-bit-usb-drivers)

Installation instructions for Windows 7 (from Aceeca) are included in the download.

    Basic instructions:

1 download the drivers and extract them in the same folder.  Remember the folder that you extracted to.

    2. try to HotSync your device.  It will fail.

    3. open the Device Manager and look for the yellow Triangle next to the other "Acceca" or "'Palm device ' in the"Other devices"section."

    Good luck!

NOTE: Palm Desktop 6.22 may only multimedia show and install.  Here's how to fix this:

If Palm Desktop 6.2.2 shows only the media and installation, try this: right click on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, and then choose 'run as administrator '.  Other modules should appear.

To Palm Desktop run as administrator every time in Windows 8 / 8.1:

Close to Palm Desktop, if it is open.  (This is a very important thing to do when you use 6.2.2 - it has been known to lose data when a computer is shut down without closing the program!)

Right click on the desktop icon of Palm in the metro screen, then choose "open file location".  You will now see the actual file for the shortcut.

Right-click on the file "Palm Desktop" shortcut, then properties.  Now, choose the tab compatibility at the top.

At the bottom of the Compatibility tab is a checkbox: "run this program as an administrator", click OK.

Try to open the Palm Desktop, all parties must appear.  You can see a box opens when you close the program asking "did the program runs correctly.   I chose 'Yes', and it has been working fine since then!

If you are using a much older PalmOS device and try using Palm Desktop 4.x, you will need this additional patch Pimlico Software:

  • Palm Desktop 4.2: Palm Desktop 4.2 on Windows 32-bit 10

This isn't a question, some information for fanatical Palm users who might be interested.

Because I have some old software I want to continue to use, I installed the 32-bit version of Windows 10 on my HP Pavilion 1d21dx g6.

I used to synchronize my Palm Centro on a machine to Vista 32 bit running Palm Desktop 6.2. Because some very useful features (such as the birthday in the calendar reminders) disappeared in this version, after setting up 10 32-bit Windows, I decided to try to use Palm Desktop 4.2, the version supplied with my Centro. I am happy to report that I have installed the software, did a HotSync, and everything went very well [WELL, i thought THAT this was the CASE - SEE below]. Now I have all my stuff on the phone and on the machine Windows 10, complete with birthday in the calendar reminders.

The only problem that I had was settting place pipes HotSync for some Palm OS with counterparts of office applications, but in any case, I was able to get the pipes installed by the application of counterpart temporarily running in Windows XP compatibility mode. Once the pipes are put in place, it seem to not need to run anything in compatibility, or administrator mode [WRONG - SEE below].

I have not heard a lot about the 32-bit version of Windows 10, but I like it. I found that it is very fast, and I still have to find an old Windows application that she will not be executed.

I found a solution that worked for me. I realized that something on my setup of Palm caused my Palm user directory switch between C:\Program Files\Palm\Username and C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Palm\Username, leading to duplicate reports, missing documents and the General problems of HotSync. I do not know what exactly triggers the switch every time (I don't think it was just the question of admin rights as I at first suspected), but I think it had to do with some of my Palm to be older than other applications. In other words, some were apparently designed or implemented to date with new versions of Windows in mind, while others were not, and HotSync Manager could not deal with that, because I had everything installed.

In any case, everything started to work properly after I installed Palm Desktop 4.2 directly in the folder C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Palm\

(Of course, in all the above examples, substitute your own "Username" username.)

My thought was to avoid the switch between the location of the traditional repertoire of the Palm and the location of the user directory style Vista by installing Palm software directory in the Vista style directory. I have not experienced any important matter. The only minor issue I have is that HotSync Manager does not automatically start despite being listed in the Startup tab in the Manager of tasks. I'm not going to tinker with compatibility modes and privileges trying to HotSync Manager starts when the computer starts. It is easy enough to just run it whenever I have to synchronize.

You will also need to consider the order in which you install your office-side applications. For example, I found that one of my apps should be executed only once with admin rights so that he could establish his lines. Which seems to trigger a change in the location of the user directory for another application that I use - that does not allow the user to specify an installation directory. I got around this by implementing these apps in the order that I mentioned, while the other user directory would not be changed after creating the first led her.

Of course, my solution has its limits, but it works for my single-user installation.
