Password files differ between versions of Firefox?

The 'profiles' page - where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data) seems to give different information (without specifying what it does) according to the version of Firefox you are using.

With v27, it is said that signons.sqlite is one (1) of both 2 files where the passwords are kept, but with v39, it says that logins.json is a file of this type. (In other words signons3.txt is the other file).

First, why the descriptions are different... and without explanation?

Second, if I go from a v39 machine a machine v27 and want my passwords to transfer via, I THOUGHT of backup and restore, my profile would do the job, but because of what I wrote above, it didn't.

Can you please advise me/us on this? Why are files different? Why the page even say different things without noting that it is what he does? How can I bring v39 past to a v27 machine?

Thank you
Bram Weiser

Trying to install an older version, as starting when Firefox 27 was still in charge.

Version 1.2.1.1 - signed -is probably the most recent version that can be used by Firefox 27; later versions are for Firefox 38 and later versions.
