password storage

Hi all

Weird question that happened a few weeks back. On a few sites I just save my password in firefox as not really worried for the security being the site it is.

in any case, I noticed a few weeks ago the storage of the password no longer works on the main log in page for the site. The list of IDS is out of order compared to the command he use to list my ID in and when I select an ID it leaves the empty password field where it would insert as before the password as usual.

I noticed that it is ONLY on this main because of the page log if I put my ID in and leave the field blank password it takes me to a log error details page and on this page of the newspaper in the works as it should in good condition ID and password is inserted properly.

This only happens on this one page and not elsewhere.

This is probably a specific Web site issue where it is a problem on their Web site or is it a problem with Firefox where it went wrong for that one site? If Yes is there a way to fix this without having to go back and redo all my passwords for this site that I have a few accounts because of the nature of the site.

Thank you

Try to remove the stored passwords and let Firefox save once more.
It is possible that some (hidden) parameters have changed.

Follow these steps to delete the recorded data (form) in a drop-down list:

  1. Click on the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
  2. Select an entry in the drop-down list with the mouse or the cursor key
do not click with the mouse or press the Enter key
  3. Press the DELETE key (on a Mac: shift + del) to delete the highlighted entry

  • Hashed password storage (?)

Not sure if chopped is the right word to describe this issue. However, if not, please replace the word hash with some word you think is appropriate.

Then, as the registration form where a user has yet to enter some data, and others one password. Now, I don't want the password to be stored in plain text, how you can chop a password to appear as a long string of characters in your mysql db table (using php)?

As a result, how do you handle the "password recovery" feature also?

I google the question, but what I came on does not seem to do the trick.

The most common ways to do this are to use the sha1()or md5() function . Just pass the password as an argument to a function and store the result in the database. Note that the md5() function always creates a 32 character string, and sha1() produces 40 characters, so your password column must be the same width.

Encryption of passwords with one of these hash functions is a one-way process. You can't decipher the value once it has been encrypted. When you connect to a user, you pass the value sent to the same function and compare the result with the value stored in the database.

Because it is a one-way process, you cannot recover a "lost password". A new password should be created.

[Edited by David powers on 12 July 2016] The above information was correct at the time where it was initially published in 2011. For PHP 5.5 and later versions, you must always use the function password_hash() to hash passwords before storing them in the database. Use password_verify() to check a password encrypted in this way.

  • Security tab does not allow me to add a site to the exception page do not forget the password.

See above. I want that he remember the passwords for most, but not banking.

If Firefox has saved other data for a site - such as cookies or the specific permissions for the site - you can change password storage approval another way:

In a new tab, type or paste Subject: authorizations in the address bar and press enter/return to load. Firefox will start combing through its databases and add sites to the list on the left side. You can use the search box to explore the site that interest you. Once you select it, you can use the selector to store passwords to change for this site. Example screen attached.

  • How different Persona to use LastPast for the site passwords?

I can't say if the character is an improvement or just another way to accomplish the same thing.

Persona is a connection authentication service. That's what a website needs to implement. It is totally different from lastpass, which is simply a password storage service.

Tell Sync maybe? Sync is a way to store and synchronize your Firefox data (including but not limited to passwords) on multiple devices. How can I set up Sync on my computer? In this regard, it is equivalent to lastpass.

  • Use model password master password in Firefox in Android

I want to store my Firefox passwords on encrypted Android device. Firefox doesn't have that one way to do this - activate 'Master password '. It is guaranteed, but not uncomfortable to use, enter them in each time the master password via the keyboard is too busy.

Will be good if Firefox for Android can accept the password of motif (Pattern Lock in Android) as master password and open password storage via fast draw model on the screen through finger instead of typing the password via the keyboard.

I understand that it is less safe this chic symbol password, but will be much better that store passwords without encryption and very comfortable to use.

What do you think about this? You can add this feature in future versions?

  • Why does firefox keep my information, connect you to & facebook and yahoo same T so I say don't remember password and I clear all history?

When I log onto Facebook, I find that my log in information is in the boxes at the top of the screen as well as the 'Sign Up'. I remove these whenever and clear everything in the story of claire drop-down. However, when I enter the initial of the first name of my e-mail address in the box 'Register' in Facebook, it pulls up to my e-mail and then when I click on this option, it penetrates my password.

My log in information is also recorded on the At & T yahoo in the page log. Even if "keep my connected to ' is not checked and I've never asked Firefox to keep this password.

Clear history does not affect password storage. You can remove this password saved using the Options window under the Security Panel. This article shows you where is the "saved passwords" button. Once you click on that, you can delete the entries for each site individually.

  • Is it safe to store your passwords on your computer

    password storage

    Hi, flight,

'Safe' is one of those terms that means many different things to many different people.

There are degrees of 'safe' almost everything - including the storage of the passwords on your computer.  Here is an article on the subject: http://ask-leo.com/is_it_safe_to_let_my_browser_remember_passwords.html.  Here's another: http://www.howtogeek.com/68231/how-secure-are-your-saved-internet-explorer-passwords/.

As a general rule, I would recommend against it (with a few obvious exceptions, where the computer requires that passwords be saved in order to check what you enter to access something that is protected by password - such as your user name or password if used BIOS - but only in the BIOS) or as Family Safety products where the computer needs to know the password to allow access to the controls to make changes, but it's just how the computer works and not what I think you're talking about.

But I think you're talking about passwords such as those used to access different websites online and maybe some programs to get their much faster by bypassing the need to enter them manually everytime.

If you are lucky enough to never be infected by all that steals information from your computer or invaded by an attacker who uses the saved passwords to access all your private sites like forums and banking sites and sites of credit cards and network access to the server of your company where they can then access this information (maybe even top secret info that could cause great harm) and eventually you put in a lot of trouble), or are victims of a scam where they get access to that information, or that your computer stolen and then pirate to have general access and then have your other passwords are all right there in front of them to use as they please while you're trying to change all (and don't forget that all the and deal with crime at the same time) then maybe you'll be OK.

If you're not lucky, then you left the keys at all just there easy to find.  And if you have decided to show secure and unsecured information because you do not see this notice pop up all the time, you are even riskier.  And I'm considering not even the level of risk you are at that time depending on how well you attend for the security of your system and its connections.   It is not only a matter of turning on the firewall, install a firewall and on the way to the races.  Good security involves much more, and I have no idea how you covered yourself outside storage of passwords on the computer.  There are many factors involved.  Start here for some background information: http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx.  For a variety of articles on how to secure your computer, see the following search: http://www.bing.com/search?q=How%20to%20secure%20your%20computer&sc=6-27&form=BSRTLB&pc=BBSR&QS=n.

Bottom line: I know not enough about your configuration to know how well you are fixed in addition (for example, are all your encrypted files, are all programs on your computer completely up-to-date regarding updates, what operating system you have - if XP is already at risk because there are known gaps that can not be patched (never will be) to begin to guess at the level of risk associated with the storage of the passwords (who, whatever happens, will be a further risk - small maybe and maybe not so small).  But no matter what else do you, almost no matter how perfect, you do everything, it is more risky and less secure that not to do so.  The items above should help you decide if you feel comfortable doing so.  Many do and many don't.  I can only offer my personal opinion.  The computer risks, damage if they fall into the wrong hands are all yours to consider and the decision is yours to make.  I can offer no guarantees if you do so, regardless of how you do it.  I can guarantee you that if you do not you will be sure that there is a small risk based on the methods to do so anyway where you chose to not do (for example, a person installs a keylogger or a keylogger software/malware for all single keystrokes you make including what you push ) - but this is something different that you decide to consciously and intentionally or not.

Incidentally, while MSE will help in terms of blocking or removal of malware that could do it on your computer - is not really very effective, if someone happens to you through and in the browser or by other non-malware means as mentioned above.  There is password-management programs out there that claim to help to do and some work better than others - but in the end they too can be overcome, and then someone has the entire list at hand.

I hope this helps.  No I didn't give you a direct Yes or no answer because I can't with the little I know about your situation and even if I knew everything, I could not yet provide a guarantee.  I just conclude by saying that I don't have and never will do it myself and do not configure my clients for that (even if some change my setup once I got out the door) and I was in it for more than 20 years.

    Good luck!

    Disable the AutoComplete password storage

    1. In an Internet Explorer browser window, click on Tools
    2. Click on Internet Options
    3. In the console configuration Internet Options, click the content tab.
    4. In the AutoComplete section, click the settings button
    1. You can select or deselect different types of information to be stored in the AutoComplete:
    2. Addresses Web stores the URL that you type and automatically try to complete them next time if you do not have to type it every time.
    • Forms stores data such as your address and phone number to try to help him fill out the form fields if you do not have to re-type the same information every time
    • Usernames and passwords on forms stores the user names and passwords for the sites that you visit and automatically inserts them when you visit the site again. There is a sub-option check so that Internet Explorer will ask you each time rather than passwords automatically saving. You can use it if you want to use the feature, but not save passwords for more sensitive sites like your bank account.
    1. You can disable the AutoComplete completely by unchecking each box

  • How to save the password to the Cisco VPN Client?

    Hello

I use version 4.8 to connect to the VPN from my client, I would like to save my password so that I don't have to enter it each time.

I've amended the FCP file to include:

    ! SaveUserPassword = 1

and my password in UserPassword =, but it worked only once, after I restart it no longer works.

Then I see the method to use the command-line vpnclient.exe to connect and provide the password as a parameter to the command:

    vpnclient connect user pwd

But I got this error when you try to connect:

Setting user password failed. User password is read-only.

And the client always requests the password.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

The server sets the password save, you will not be able save locally unlessit is enabled on the server side. If the customer has an ASA, follows allows him under the group policy for VPN clients.

  • Change password after first login

We configure the user accounts on the local ASA 5510.  Is it possible for the user to set up accounts so that users can change the password after the first login?

    Thank you.

    Laura

    Laura,

If users are in the local database on the SAA, there are some attributes that you can set, that is to say

    username TEST attributes

Toggle the password login password-storage on the
    client system

But what you want is to force the user to change his password, I have seen that you can not set this parameter for local users on the SAA.

The way to accomplish this will use an external authentication source (ACS, Radius, GANYMEDE + Server server, etc.).

  • change of plan-storage-pwd (of SHA CRYPT)

    Greetings;

My pwd-storage-system (world policy) is set to the CRYPT, I am obliged now to change that for SHA.

Most of my clients are Solaris, with a few RHEL (various flavors).

What is the best way to make the above change?

What are the effects, if any, will have on my UNIX clients?

In addition, my pwd-compat-mode is set to 'DS6-migration-mode', and I need to change this to 'DS6-mode', this would cause problems for me?

I only have DS6 servers in my environment, no DS5 at all and no other DS servers, although at one point I can want to synchronize with AD.

    Thank you all,

    Hello

(Unix) Crypt is a one-way function, text password is required to generate the SHA hash.

You can change the schema of SHA password storage, but passwords will be stored with SHA when users update their passwords. To expedite the process, you can configure the password expires or force users to change their password. Note that users with passwords stored in crypt format will always be able to authenticate even if the password storage scheme is set to SHA. In other words, different password storage systems can coexist in all existing entries. Over time, he will have to remember each password with the storage scheme of password configured as users update the passwords.

Password Ds6 strategy mode introduced new operational attributes in the user input. These new attr are generated when passwords are changed, in order to have a complete password strategy based on ds6-mode, you should 1 / 2 migration mode / I have users update their passwords 3 / mode ds6. This action of admin is somehow the CRYPT/SHA switch which already punish password changes.

Note that there is a tool provided with ODSEE11gr2 which generates the appropriate operational password policy attr without requiring users to change their password. This could be an alternative solution if you have the right to use this version.

  • Firefox updates too often.

I wonder what you guys play at, why the need to update so often?
It's crazy. only 11 months ago, we were in version 3, we are now in version 7?
What is going on? the software is not so different to justify a major version update.
I am simply expressing my shock here how you have changed it, but a more serious problem. Here is the Add - ons. It seems to me that by doing a major version, you make it very difficult for managers of the add-on. I noticed that it becomes less useful add-ons for firefox and the good are get abandoned because they can't follow.
don't you think you should slow down a notch?
of course, I think that the development continues at a normal pace, but see if you can find a way to impliment updates important safety without messing up all the codes of the add-on? and without a major version update!
We went from 6 to 7, and what has changed in terms of features? Honestly, I don't know because I haven't seen any real difference.

Moderator locked due to the age of this thread

Sorry, that you're frustrated with the new quick release schedule, many of us have similar feelings. The main part of the new annex is that releases are determined by now, vs the old feature-driven release date releases. If a feature is ready for release, it is included in a new version; If a feature requires more time to 'seep', it is deferred until he is ready - not more to postpone a date of release because some features need more development time.

New features less and less changes by release version than in the past, with more frequent releases.

A page like this should appear for each new version, after its installation. It's just a matter of reading on 'What's new in Firefox' to see which alter the new version http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/Firefox/7.0/ReleaseNotes/ .

Regarding the module developers and the calendar of the week 6 for arrivals, the modules that are hosted here - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ - aka AMO - are made automatically compatible with each new version of Firefox, as long as they pass a compatibility check process and "testers" mark as 'compatible' with the extension Add - 0n Compatibility Reporter. Don't need a developer to do something if their extension was created successfully at first and meet the current standard for safety. 95% of the most popular modules are automatically 'moved '. In addition, with a week 6 Beta test period developers are assured that they will not have to redo all the patches, they may need to make their modules due to last minute changes in the Beta version, as happened in the past because of new features that have been modified at the "last minute" to try to put the release date.

Night, Aurora and Firefox Beta testers are a large part of the "compatibility test" for modules that are hosted on AMO, so developers have less work to do if their add-on doesn't have all the patches and "testers" can point out specific problems to make it easier to find out what is a problem and help maybe the developer working on a "fix."

What about self-hosted modules, it is a problem for add-on developers to understand to s. They need to rethink the gites accommodation vs using AMO to the distribution of their modules, or they need to find a different line of activity if they are unable to follow the program of quick release.

IMO, Norton with their Firefox extensions (such as anti-phishing and secure password storage) for Firefox 3.0, 3.5, 3.6 and 4.o, were real slugs when it came to the new versions of Firefox, but from Firefox 6.0 and 7.0, they had their extensions updates update available to their customers in a few hours of shooting on the servers to upgrade to new versions of Mozilla's Firefox. I hate Norton for all the problems of their software caused for me over the past 25 years, but I must congratulate you on 'strengthening their game' with the new quick release schedule and responding to the needs of their Firefox using customers by providing a ' just in time ' updates. But they still need to work on their mode of delivery of these updates in a more automated method, other than the users who need to download and install a "patch" or manually run a live update.

That all said, probably with Firefox 10 early next year, there will be a major change with the treatment of perceived the add-on compatibility Firefox. Currently the add-on must meet or exceed the version number of Firefox that is coded inside the add-on or the server of the AMO for the particular module, or the add-on is disabled automatically while the new version of Firefox is installed. The new way of handling it assumes that all modules are compatible - period. For not to sound too negative, but if (or when) a user has a problem because of incompatible code in one or more modules, it will fall on the shoulders of the user to understand what is causing their problem. I've seen too darn modules badly coded this last 9 years of use of this browser, causing all sorts of problems for me to think otherwise.

  • HP SimplePass works intermittently

I have problems with HP SimplePass. Every so often, it stops working and will not enter details of password for my registered sites. Furthermore, if I then try to connect to any Web site manully, the web browser just hangs and will not open a session. If I uncheck the option allow HP SimplePass to connect with my registered sites and then restart my laptop, I can then sign in to Web sites. However, if I reactivate later Pass Simple it starts to work again, only for the problem to resurface at a later date. Because of the sporadic nature of the problem, I was unable to identify the cause, and, as far as I know, I have the latest version of SimplePass.

Someone else has encountered the same problem?

I use a HP Pavilion n271ea-15 computer laptop (Windows 8.1), with Internet Explorer 11.

    Hello

Could you please clarify how you try to use the SimplePass software. As the software is intended to be used with a fingerprint reader. These are lying them to allow you to quickly connect in Web sites by swipping your finger.

It seems that you use it as a password storage, to avoid having to manually enter the information. Although I'm not sure how your using the program to connect, if your not using it through a finger print reader.

The only option that you have is uninstalling Simplepass, clear the cache and cookies in your browser (s), and then reinstall the latest version of Simplepass and setting everything back up.

You could try this, let me know how it goes.
    Thanks for the reply.
