• Difference between patches and upgrades in vCenter Server 4?

  We improve just vCenter for version 4.  The ESX hosts are still running ESX 3.5 U5.

  When we run the Update Manager, we see that there are two checkboxes - Patches and upgrade.  We assume that the patch is host and upgrade to ESX 3.5 to ESX 3.5 to vSphere 4.  Is this correct?

  When we run Manager update with the two boxes checked, it appears the fixes that we must apply for these ESX 3.5 hosts.  However, there is no upgrade poster for us to upgrade to vSphere ESX 3.5 U5.  Are there any suggestions?

  Box upgrade is when you want to scan your host for upgrade compliance - for example if it is 3.5 and want to upgrade to 4.0

  Patches box is related to 3.5 and 4.0 host but only for cumulative patches, updates and individual patches.  That's the main difference - change the host of 3.5 to 4.0 version is done by upgrade and spend 3.5 U1 with U2's patch.

  If you want to check what patches you need - create base patch dynamic host. Upgrade, you must download iso 4.0 upgrade of host based and clean up with her

• patching and upgrading stream

  We have implemented between two stream sites. A site is the main and the second would be secondary
  or the backup (without using DataGuard) system. When we go operational, which we do not yet have.
  I am trying to determine how we would apply patches to the system. Yet once, if we're down for patches
  the second site should be available. Can I have two sites of different patches/upgrades?

  Streams are supported patch levels as long as you do not use a function in the Group of patches below which exists in the other. If patch to ease you and not to watch the streams. I would avoid just an accumulation of between the two session rivierra dctionary, even though I'm confident he composed with that. Just a reflex of conservatism.

  go to, patches > Quick links to: latest Patchsets, Mini Packs and Maintenance Packs > Fussion MiddleWare > your OS > 10.1.2.2 or 10.1.2.3, you do not need to 10.1.2.1, if you have a larger version, it should work.

  There is no startCD 49 on this document and I tried 4 times to install these patches, but it seems that they must be installed in a special way. Can someone help me in order that should be patched back, rolled, etc.. Thanks in advance.

  If you want to stick with 11.2.0.3 (not recommended), and then apply the power supply, I mentioned (11.2.0.3.15).

• VUM 5.5 Service crashes when manually by selecting 'download patches and upgrades.

  Hey all,.

  I have problems with a new installation of vCenter 5.5. This is on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with 8 GB of RAM. I am running SQL2012 Express as a main server on the same server. It is a new installation of Windows Server 2012 Standard.

  This is the 2nd time that I was able to reproduce this problem. I first thought I screwed something with the installation and so I reformatted the box and started again. Fresh installation of SSO 5.5, 5.5, 5.5 VUM vCenter. Downloading the initial patch was successful. Each attempt later patch gets to 50% in the vSphere client and service crashes. This causes the plugin to fail in the client vSphere as shown below. This also happens if I do some tasks in the update via the web client Manager. If I cancel the download and restart the service, it continues to run flawlessly. I can attach the baselines initially patches and custom data center planning / hosts and scan / patch without problem. I don't know where to begin the search on it and I know there are several log files. I have 2 other environments where I did 1 new installation and 1 upgrade and do not have this problem. I have the same software installed on the server in question that I made on the machine, I upgraded. I can assume there is a bug / driver / OS level issue going on here. Has anyone experience this problem? It seems that I have had problems with 5.5 to date. Any help would be appreciated.

  

  I found the answer after having waded through the difficult to read newspapers VUM. I got the SQL Native client 11.0 for the ODBC source instead of the 10.0. Here, the article describes the problem:

  Dangers when using purely by default without knowing some of the small nuance hope this help anyone who may run into this problem with a fresh Server / vCenter install.

  I must apply Patch 6880880 . What I understand from the documentation and messages on this patch is that this patch is nothing but upgraded the version of hpatch/Opatch.
  
  When I unzip the folder p6880880_101000_MSWIN - x 86 - 64.zip, it makes a folder called Opatch (according to earlier messages I need to replace the existing OPatch folder folder) in the directory of Hyperion .
  
  But I'm afraid to do that because the new folder OPatch resulting from unzip the file p6880880_101000_MSWIN - x 86 - 64.zip does not hpatch.bat.
  
  I need hpatch.bat because I still have to make two or three more fixes (9976978 and 11794962) to correct a problem of security HFM. And the patch 6880880 is a prerequisite for patches 9976978 and 11794962.

• ESX3.5 = > 4: Patch to upgrade or install clean

  Hi guys (and girls)

  What are your thoughts on the upgrade process - should I be patching esx 3.5 to 4.0 via the Update Manager or "best practices" dictate that a clean install would be better? I'm leaning towards the latter, as seems to be rather a big update - but, if anyone has tried both scenarios in their lab environment then this entry would be welcome.

  Our standard is "no improvements of major version."  In other words, we will never apply upgrades on top of the previous generation product.

  The prospect of vCenter 4 with "Host Profiles" - launch a clean host on the network and then push all our configuration settings to seems quite ideal.  Even without the profile application, our basic today config is very simple - especially with ESXi... so really add automation does not save a lot of time.  Consistency is would be nice however.
