Patches of vCenter 4.0

Hi guys,.

I have never installed fixes for vcenter server. I tried to find the patches for this but get the links to download. Can anyone help me to get this done.

Thanks in advance!

no key required, but do not have a current agreement (support and subscription) SnS with VMware.  Maybe another Member of your team can get the bits install?

The link I provided is for U3.

    Hi Experts,

As a beginner to virtualization, I'm under vCenter 5.1 with ESXi 5.1 hosts. When I click on the Patch Repository tab, I can see patches associated with ESXi 4.0 and 4.1. Why patches are still visible in the Patch Repository tab.

Is there a way to remove the former patches to the Patch repository?

According to the VMware KB: VMware KB: correlation vCenter Server and ESX ESXi host build numbers to update level

Is another question: I am currently on ESXi 5.1 patch 1 with build 914609 and if I directly upgrade to ESXi 5.1 update 2 with build 1483097 then what about ESXi 5.1 patch 2 and ESXi patch3 5.1? I wanted to understand the difference between ESXi 5.1 patch and update 5.1 ESXi?

    Please, help me understand!

  • VCenter U1 patch that runs in a virtual machine.

Hello, I have recently updated my ESX infrastructure to vSphere 4.0U1. I run Server 4.0U1 with Update Manager vCenter. I'm confused as to how I can keep my current VM with patch vCenter. When I try to scan the virtual machine with the Update Manager - I get the following error:

CK-VCENTER VM is a virtual machine that has installed VMWare or VMWare vCenter Update Manager vCenter. This virtual machine will be ignored for scan or clean-up.

I know vCenter running as a virtual machine is officially supported by VMWare - so I'm confused as to how I can keep this compatible virtual machine. I have several tasks such as improving the VM hardware version 7 to 4, while keeping the of Windows OS virtual machine patched, etc. This must be a common situation for those who have a similar setup as me. Please notify.

There are no Patches VMware vCenter, just for vCenter and those are re - installs the application.  Regarding Microsoft security patches, you would have to patch as if it was physical.  We use Shavlik.  But you can use WSUS or even windows updates.

with regard to the update of the virtual hardware. Go to the ESX, the guest host is registered on, stop the VM vCenter and upgrade the equipment this way.

  • vCenter Plugin - host and iDRAC on separate networks - Options?

    Hi all

We have 2 x R720 of virtual hosts with LOM IPs on the LAN (10.227.0.x) and runs in dedicated mode NIC iDRAC IPs on a physically separate management network - iDRAC. 10.227.2.x and is accessible from the management network. Dell vCenter Management Plugin is running and registered with vCenter a connection profiles - 1 by the server.

When I test the connection profile, he can talk to the IP of LOM, but fails on the IP of the iDRAC. Firmware and guarantee of stock also fail. IDRAC IPs are not the ping requests from the inside of the base of the plugin CentOS.

The script of http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&docid=597574 watch ProtocolEndpoint.bat is correctly resolve the IP of the iDRAC, but obviously he can't talk about it because the networks are not related. So, what are my options here:

    • Can I somehow configure iDRAC with a LAN and IP network management (probably spend far using the iDRAC dedicated NIC)?
    • Should I just temporarily change the iDRAC dedicated NIC on the LAN, Exchange patch cords, vCenter Plugin do and then come back?
    • Is it possible to set up a route network in the CentOS based for the plugin? Get root access to who seems to be not not possible (admin password does not work and account readonly is exactly that, and the command line does not work either) - this combined with some other fiddling network could work
    • Other options?

I would prefer if the plugin could speak to iDRAC R720 24/7 constant monitoring, but the main purpose of the plugin for us is occasional updates, amending thus temporarily iDRAC dedicated IPs is an option.

    Thank you

    Lukas

Update: works around this by temporarily putting iDRAC NIC on the local network.

  • How can I update v6 unit vCenter

I wonder how I can update or install the latest patches to vcenter 6 device...

In vCenter 5.5 I could log on to the site for example https://vcenter_url:5480 / #core.Login and select the option to check the updates and if necessary to install updates for the device.

This site is no longer available in v6. I tried to check with the Update Manager, but it does not work as incompatible due to the vmware tools installed, here is vmware tools open and not compatible with the Update Manager.

So, how can I check the updates on the unit and if necessary the update/upgrade my camera vcenter 6 as appropriate?

It may not answer all your questions, but I suggest that you take a look at http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2015/04/vcenter-server-6-0-tidbits-part-5-new-method-of-patching-the-vcsa.html which explains how manually patch the applicane.

  • Update Manager fails to download the patches

    Hello Experts,

I have vCenter 5.5 running on win2008r2 and Update Manager (VUM) installed on the same vcenter. I have deployed UMDS (Download Manager Update service) to download patches. UMDS is installed on a different server. Under Download Manager update view Admin tab option, I gave the url path web https UMD patches like "shared repository. I added following links via UMD as a download URL command line: -.

    https://hostupdate.VMware.com/software/VUM/production/main/VMW

    -deposit - index.xml

    https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/csco-mai

    csco/n-deposit - index.xml

    http://vibsdepot.HP.com/HPQ/mar2014-550/index-drv.XML

Patches have been downloaded by UMDS I can see in download store path, joined screenshot in one of the comments below. But I don't see a single patch on patch repository tab of the Update Manager. It shows the Virgin.

Do you know what could be the cause?

    Thank you

so the culprit was the inheritance of the permissions on the patch store, followed this article and it worked.

  • Same material, cannot vmotion.  Stops at 13% with a general system error occurred: invalid argument.

I have four IBM (now Lenovo) x 3550 M4 (7914AC1) hosts that have been purchased by groups of two, several months apart.  Those purchased at the same time can vmotion between them but they cannot vmotion with those bought later OR with one of our older infrastructure (Nehalem IBM level - x 3650 M3, M3 x 3550, etc.).  The most recent M4 can talk to the fine old hosts.  Can I migrate invited powered down.

VMware support was not able to give any help on this matter and have lost instead of my time (including do not contact me for weeks and also current exit without changing to another engineer; manager failed in this regard, too).

I pulled the material apart - I can say it's all the same material (looks the same, has the same numbers and RUF).  The machines were configured the same.

Firmware isn't exactly the same thing on the material but is VERY close.  I have one of each generation updated with the same Xpresspacks of IBM, and so except for the image diagnosis of pre-start, I think that they are the same.  I'll check this again once then.

VMware drivers are the same.  They were not.  They are now.  I got 5.5 latest drivers for everything that I can find a driver for (including cards CF - using the driver Qlogic native VMware NICS (igb); approx 10 GB (not being use IGB but fact still); the provider CIM, MegaRAID controller.  I used VUM update their last 5.5 (standard license) with all the patches.  vCenter is a 5.5 vCSA was last updated.  I went into the BIOS settings side-by-side and ensured that everything is the same.  I did the same thing with everything I could think of in vSphere (found about 5 differences, but nothing fixed).

Management is the network of vMotion.  It's on the same VLAN as one of those guests are on (the clients are spread over 5 different VLAN).  VMware support put in place a different vSwitch for vMotion with no luck.

The symptoms are the same regardless of their orientation (old to the new, new to the former) and don't care about the type of virtual machine (Windows 2008R2, CentOS 5.5, RHEL 6.7) or at the level of the material (VM 10 or 7 VM).  It also fails if it is standard or high priority or if it is with the web client or the Windows client.

The place with the most characteristic symptom that doesn't show anywhere in googleland except to the pastebin is in the file /scratch/log/hostd.log of the host.  The host that sends the guest throws a vmsvc.vm error VMotionCmdCb [1461010590046389] 'a': error - 6: invalid argument.

If anyone else has seen this (obviously someone because it is on pastebin) and understood, please enlighten me.

    Thank you!

    Jeff

  • Flash 18 WTF

So my IE 11 updated for the embedded Adobe Flash Player 18 in the last day or two, and now what is happening with the Web each time Client I did right click...

    flash18-wtf.png

Rather irritating.  I know that this was not the case previously and does not happen under Chrome, which has 17 Flash installed PPAPI.  I feel this is going to be a patch for vCenter, or is there a way I can disable the context menu of Flash on my computer?  I searched info on disabling the menu, but can't find anything that doesn't require you to change the SWF files.

So I went back to study this a little more and I found that changing the 10 IE rendering engine or lower in the developer console tools removes the context menu of the Flash web interface.  Add the site to the Compatibility Mode is not delete the shortcut menu.  If I could find a way to force the site to display in IE 10 all the time, who will fix it.  At this point, I move to Chrome, until VMware replaces the Flash with HTML5 interface (or upgrade to Windows 10, although I don't have confirmation of anyone in my org that the problem does not occur under IE or Edge in W10).

  • Impossible to activate CVS

    Hello-

I have a site using two hosts ESXi 5.1 (fully patched) and vCenter. I recently added the second host which is a Dell R410.

    1 - host

    Dell PowerEdge r.620

    Intel Xeon CPU E5-2643

    Host 2:

    Dell PowerEdge R410

    Intel Xeon E5620 CPU

According to the compatibility guides I found online, should be no problem with the 2600 series and 5600 series processors. I have another site using the same Dell r.620 E5-2643 and a Dell R510 E5640 with EVC Intel Westmere generation active.

When I try to activate CVS, I get the error saying -.

The host cannot be admitted to the current cluster Enhanced vMotion compatibility mode. Under voltage or suspension of the virtual machines on the host can use the CPU features hidden by this mode. Host1-esxi1.

He's going to say that for all modes except Sandy Bridge VCA, then said that host2-esxi1 is the problem of children.

They are in a cluster and I tried to remove the cluster, activation CVS first, then re - add host... but the HOST1 re-will not add as he noticed that the CEV is enabled. Any ideas?

Another thing you can try (in a maintenance window) is to stop the VM, then select CVS and start everything up again.

  • HA reconfigure after 5.1 to 5.1U1

Poking around with some test systems after ranging from 5.1 to 5.1U1, I noticed that vib HA not updated until I have done one reconfigures a vcenter 5.1U1 HA. This needs to be done, or is the new version of vib simply cosmetic. Just do not know after a cluster is completely moved 5.1 to 5.1U1, you will have to reconfigure all hosts for HA to get pushed HA patches of vcenter.

Yes, there are a few fixes introduced in vCenter 5.1 U1 thanks to which you may need to reconfigure HA for the new package to be applied when HA is already activated.

The error you see, is symbolizing a problem I've seen in the past on older versions of vCenter 2.5.  According to the journal that you use GA build 64192.

So the question I recently upgraded you to one of your ESX hosts to a plu update patch as vCenter.  There was a problem with older versions of vCenter where if a patch to update has been applied to an ESX host before vCenter has been upgraded, at the next restart of the vCenter service it would fail in this way.   If this is true, the upgrade vCenter at least update 2, (I recommend U4) and this error will disappear.

    See you soon,.

  • If the patch management can be done by VMware Update Manager in vCenter Server Appliance as similar vCenter Server

    Hi friends,

If patches of the host management can be done through Vmware Update manager vCenter Server Appliance as in vCenter Server.

Tell me other differences between them...

    Kind regards

    Sirot Vijay

    1. Yes we can connect to the device using the vSphere client.

    2. in the installation of the update manager VCenter information will ask and he will automatically fit no special measures required.

    3. no conflict. Its just like you have two vCenter servers, but you can not have two server vCenter managing the same hosts.

  • DELL PE R710 missing sensors on the tab 'Hardware status' vCenter ESX after latest patch update!

Last month, I update all my ESX host with the latest patches for ESX from 28/04/2011 (ESX410-201104001) via the vCenter Update Manager, earlier this month, accidentally, I have some verification to be done in the server room and noticed a hard drive failure on one of my DELL R710 Rack servers, I you connected the VirtualCenter client and when I click on the tab 'Hardware status' (where the alarms about the) Configuration hardware server usually appear), I noticed that my storage sensors are missing, the network sensors as well! ?? I recall that on March I did have another server hard disk failure, but I saw an alarm (for predictive failure) on my vCenter and I call Dell to replace the drive back!

I also noticed that now the number of my server sensors are between 73 and 88, before I remember although there were a couple hudred of them! ??

After some research on the net, I did I frimware/BIOS upgrade of all hardware on the servers, as I install OMSA 6.5 and Dell management plug-in to vCenter and all seems to work just fine, but storage sensors and count sensor under the tab 'Hardware status' issue was not resolved. I think there is a problem with vcenter, because when I connect directly to the host through the vsphere client, in the "State of health" tab all the material appears correctly. I found subjects with similar problems, but they have been with HP servers and not answered or solved!

Is there anyone with similar problem or no answer to my question?

    Thanks to all in advance!

    godjak

PSIF there need I can post some screenshots!

Confirmed.  Without patch ESX410-201104401-SG, my other R710 has a full complement of sensors.
